How fast is your phone? - Galaxy Grand Prime Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How fast is your phone? Is it slow? Is it OK? Was it slow before but after some tweaks or using a different ROM/kernel it's not anymore? If that's the case, how did you speed it up?

I dont know what choose to :(

After testing all custom roms no one is good for me even they are great but not good.
Minicm-lags in games so much, its not playable
Floyo-almost same but less bugs faster ui but still lags in games
Stock 2.1.1-Super slow UI but games are smooth
CM7-All ok games smooth just battery drain and camera are stooping me from using this rom.
Elelinux and Nexus one rome same as minicm.
What should i use i want to use newest Minicm RC2 (not rc1 it is for mini out now) but again i will just have lags in games and some of them are not playable.
Someone help me

Do like this: the camera is working in CM7 2.3.3, right? the best 2.3.3 rom atm is from Ratch, right? join both and you will have a fully 2.3.3 rom..
ask to them, how to do it

No. Camera is NOT working on any 2.3.3 for X8. This will be solved in close future.
Now, question. I have a battery drain issue on 2.2.1 miniCM6 RC2.
Phone runs very smoothly, but drains battery so fast.
From 100% to current 37% in less than 10h, and I didn't use so much. reality would be about 50%.
Installed brightenss fix, but lowest brightness is to high (cca 40% on stock rom)
Any solutions?
I tried to reduce proccesing speed to 600MHz, but then phone is so laggy and slow. On 650+ is very smooth. I don't get it. On RC1 processor was at 600MHz and ROM was smooth as now.
EDIT: changed using SetCPU and using powersave option instead of ONDEMAND in CyanogenMod performance settings.

i try RC2 without x8oc module, and use setcpu to lower min freq to 122.
now i feel no laggy in game and my battery not drain so fast..
I use CM7 J007 by jerpelea. Runs extra smooth at 729MHz...
However, EVERY ROM has micro lags when scrolling. Many friends call me crazy and they don't see that but it's there. Only ROM without micro lags I've tried was HTC's 2.1 with Sense - it's exactly like iPhone's smooth animation (no, I didn't had, I don't have, and I won't have iPhone, only cool thing about it is extra smoothness which is on X8 present only in Sense ROM).

How to do that? I didn't put x8oc.ko anywhere.
I just installed update.zip via xRecovery. Then I installed Brighteness fix.
Before I had RC1 with RC1 fixes. Without OC.
And min freq. is already on 122MHz.
In CyanogenMod Settings -> Performance -> CPU settings selected governor is ONDEMAND. I tried powersave, but phone is laggy with that.
Max CPU freq is at 710MHz. I'll try to put it on 600MHz, but how to go back on 710 if something goes wrong? Last option on the list is 600.

Try this: Fully charge phone, wipe battery stats in xrecovery, then let the phone fully discharge and charge it to 100% without a break

I'll do that when battery drains. I did that before with old roms. I saw no major difference.
Now, second question: Quadrant score is 888. CPU set to 729MHz. I didn't set it on boot yet. Phone runs even smoother than on 710Mhz.
I just got one reboot, but that's probably root apps related. (used SetCPU)
Second shot was 832.
Other with this rom get 1000 points or more.
I did all that sh*t needed to be done after flashing. (Factory reset, Wipe dalvik cache, Wipe cache)... so what's the problem?
I even don't use titaium backup, I install apks from sd card.

You have same problem as me.
I just tried Angry Birds Rio. and aTilt.
Angry Birds are not so laggy, there's a tiny lag when your bird flies, just after you throw it. Playable.
aTitlt is so laggy. You can't play. On 2.1 was as smooth as ****.
In fact, I don't play games and I don't care about lags. I want battery issue to be fixed. It's well know with all custom roms, but this time is just not acceptable.

Discharge battery. Plug the charger (wall socket, not USB). When phone turns on, go to recovery. Wipe battery stats. Unplug charger, turn on phone. When it turns off again, plug charger and charge it fully. Again, wipe battery stats. Charge fully again.

[Idea] Faster Charging

I noticed that in aosp roms, the battery charges faster. If we could hunt down the reason of this, we can implement this in touchwiz based roms.

Possibly they use less power when the phone is idle (ie less apps running in the background, maybe undervolting). Since they use less power sitting there, they would charge faster.
Doesn't our aosp rom still have touch wiz framework?

He's talking about actual AOSP roms like cyanogenmod.
Texted while driving
Well Gingerbread in itself is more energy efficient..its one of the features of gingerbread...that and hummingbird optimizations help too..the faster it completes the process the faster it can go idle.
on related note, I'm wondering if it's possible to undervolt even more at say 200Mhz when the phone goes to sleep ??
just curious if it would even allow the phone to wake up, negative effects, etc. or 'might' it be worthwhile ?

I had -125mV and when the battery got below 40% phone wouldn't wake up. So that will vary from phone to phone.

Not sure whether you meant "undervolt" or are talking about the processor speed being throttled back... two different things (but your units for the 200 are wrong for undervolting). Are you talking about undervolting or CPU speed?

I believe he is talking about both, undervolting at each clockspeed. I do this with Voltage Control.
Do you BONSAI?

this has already been done, nubecoder did it with an older bonsai kernal. works great, unfortunately no one else wants to do it. battery charges much faster and fully to 100% instead of 97%.
I'm not using the kernal now because it doesn't work with cpu spy and it doesn't work with wifi tether. but the info is there on how to do it and should be easy to do to other kernals. Unfortunately i don't have the knowledge to be able to do something like that.

I was talking about both, throttling back the CPU when sleeping AND undervolting the 200mhz step at the same time while sleeping to conserve battery more, thereby 'hoping' for a quicker charge.
just an idea.

Undervolting : how low is too low?

So i was able to undervolt by - 75. Phone runs smooth and normal as it should. My question is will undervolting too low damage my phone? How low is too low. Phone works as it should, should i even be bothered at all?

As long when your phone is running well..i wouldn't bother. To low when phone starts lagging, random reboots..my 2ct
If it freeze randomly then it's too lowhb

[Q] Sprint galaxy s4: overheating with no over clock

I just can't seem to keep the temperatures below 41-45° while using the device. While I'm not using the phone the temps stay pretty low, roughly between 37 - 39°. The reason I'm posting this question is because the phone gets noticeably hot to the touch and I didn't want to be creating worse problems down the road due to persistent overheating. Is there something I should do to protect from overheating?
Currently I'm running triforce 3.1 rom with comadose package, hot spot mod, speed tweaks and a few altered build. props. Also running the KT kernel with no over clock just the stock kernel MHZ'S. My speeds are really good I get 45mbps download and 15mbps upload just wanna make sure the heating issue isn't bad.
Thanks in advance for the help.
When. You over clock try yo lower the voltages to keep the tempature low.

The thing is im not even overclocking my phone yet out of fear for it getting worse. The issue began when I installed KT's kernel. So I uninstalled it and reinstalled the stock mf9 kernel. I then found the triforce rom with KT's kernel and decided to give it another shot. Right now I'm running my CPU at 1890/380 mhz. So lowering the voltages should help the heat issue even though I'm not overclocking yet? Thanks for the quick response bro.
Could be a bad battery, take it to Sprint and see if they will exchange one for you.
I've noticed on the phone that if you use it heavily, then it tends to heat like crazy. Or if you're doing something on there that is using a lot of RAM or juice from the device.
You can try and remove some tweaks, that might be an issue. And check to see which part of th system is using the most battery on your phone.

Thanks for the reply, I have noticed that when I use antutu benchmark or on it a while is when it overheats the most, just wanted to make sure it wasn't a big big deal. I did just remove the tweaks I had set with Android tweaker pro mabye that'll help a bit. The comadose package I just flashed gave my phone a huge boost of speed so I feel like I don't need all those tweaks. Does anyone know if Android tweaker is a good tweaker app or is is there a better one? Thanks again for all the help everyone.

[Q] Will running set cpu or no frills do anything for my performance?

I don't want to overclock but want my note to be a little snappier. Will running set cpu or no frills on performance and a higher minimun clock speed do anything for me? Is it harmful? I'm good data wifi speeds at the moment and don't want to mess with those. I am stock rooted with bloatware just frozen off titanium. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Performance runs at top step at all times so minimum would be irrelevant. It's not inherently harmful with the exception that it could run hotter and cause faster wear. If you think this device is somehow slow though I would look to see what's slowing it down. This thing is more powerful than most home PC's 3 years ago.
