I just dropped my phone and the screen no longer works but the phone does. I plugged it into my computer but I remember that when I have done that in the past I had to change it from charging mode to MTP mode using the screen. Is there anyway to change the phone to MTP mode without using the screen so I can get my files off of the phone?
Thanks
Was USB debugging enabled before? and if yes have you authorized your computer for the phone before?

Hey all,
I have tried to google and figure this out but my phone doesn't show up in device manager in windows or in android file transfer on mac EXCEPT when in download mode or when the phone is off/charging via my computers USB port.
So when in download mode, the phone shows up in device manager....
When my device is off and charging via USB port, it shows up in device manager...
I have tried USB debugging mode no change...
Charges just fine. No usb port issues because it connects during download mode etc...
During these times, i obviously can't access the SDcard.... but as soon as the device boots, it disconnects and disappears from device manager even though its still charging etc...
This only happened after the last OTA update.
I assume i will have to restore to defaults as its probably an issue with the kernel and usb protocol but I dont have the phone rooted and i don't want to root it at this time... I am hoping there might be a quick fix and/or setting i am missing.
Thanks!

You do have to have USB debugging mode checked. If you don't have the developer option enabled in settings, go to about phone, find your build number and tap on it rapidly until it says your developer option is enabled. Back out and you should see a developer tab. Click it and make sure USB debugging is checked. If that doesn't work you might reinstall the latest USB drivers.
i did both of those. the odd part is when in download mode windows chimes that my device it attached.. no problems right? but anytime the android OS is running no chimes at all no recognition at all on any computer... its almost like back in my linux days when the kernal had a usb module failed to load... i swear its as if the kernal turned off usb data communication... power is fine... just wont communicate unless in download mode or in a power off state.... totally weird...
When you plug it into the computer, pull down your notification drawer, make sure USB setting is set to MTP. It usually is set to installer, or charge only by default.
Also I'd say completely wipe out your phone drivers on the computer, and reinstall all new ones.
Possibly reinstall ADB as well.

Hi
I have a nexus4 that has a broken screen, it is, it doesnt react to the finger touch, and doesnt have usb debug enabled
What could i do to extract the files from there?
I have seen that connecting a mouse via usb is not an option as this device is not compatible with that, so i think the only option i have is to flash the device to have usb debugging enabled
Is there any other option i can explore?
Thanks
I am sure that you can enter your recovery assuming that your power + vol button is still functioning.
Try to connect your device using Wug Tool and use the tool to back up all the files.
Give it a try and let us know.

Yes, i can get in recovery, but, i assume i would need to unlock the bootloader first, isnt it? If i do it, i will erase all the documents inside
Hi
I have tried getting into recovery, but, as expected, as usb debugging is not enabled, i cant see the device from adb
So, the key question is... how can i enable usb debug in a device with the screen broken and with bootloader locked, without wiping the data?
Thanks
It is possible to turn on usb debugging?
I have clean phone - after factory reset.
Basically, my SGS5 got electrocuted. There was a bit of water in port and it got shocked form charger. I quickly switched to UPS mode so I had 2 additional days of calls while I was searching for a replacement smartphone.
Then the battery died. A moment ago I have replaced port correctly and battery is back to life ... sadly middle of my screen is unresponsive. Left Right and top are working but middle and middle bottom doesn't. I don't know why that happens as it's in good condition on both sides.
The main problem is that I cannot unlock a phone with the pattern ... and I cannot factory reset him no matter what as I need the data and access to apps it has inside.
Is there a way to reset pattern lock? Bypass it or remove trough adb? UPS mode has disabled USB debugging by default if im correct. Or anything that would let me emulate him on my PC.
Phone is rooted running PhoeniX rom.
Thanks for any bits of advice.
You can try to connect a mouse via USB OTG cable.

Sorry to mislead you.
Then try this variant:
1. Flash TWRP with Odin.
2. Boot to TWRP.
3. Connect to ADB. Run "adb shell".
4. Remove lock pattern: "rm /data/system/gatekeeper.pattern.key".
5. Reboot the phone: "reboot".
No screen touching is needed at all
But it will work if you don't have /data encrypted and Reactivation Lock turned ON.
Hi all,
My Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (SM-G935FD) has broken screen after a drop. The screen is black or flickering with green, but I think that it still reacts to touch. The firmware was upgraded to Oreo stock very recently, and the phone is not password or pattern protected. USB debugging is disabled (it has never been enabled) and the phone is OEM protected, so flashing a custom recovery with ODIN doesn't work (I tried). I'd like to backup the data, and I need to find a way to enable USB debugging for that. I see two options:
- Boot into maintenance mode to activate USB debugging in spite of the black screen, using physical keys. The thing is that I can't seem to boot into maintenance mode with that version of the phone following instructions found online (maybe this maintenance mode is specific to some versions or carriers, or am I missing something here?).
- Blindly activate USB debugging using an external keyboard. To do that, I would greatly appreciate help from one of you to know the exact sequence of keys.
Hope I can get this working!
Thanks
No one with a keyboard and OTG adapter to help me on that?
Thanks!
Hi,
I need some help from experts.
My screen is broken and black, I can't interact with phone anymore but i know it is booting properly.
I think the only option for me is to stream the screen through adb using a tool like Vysor.
For this I need adb but usb debugging is off. I can access fastboot though.
Question, is there a way to enable USB debugging is this kind of situation?
Any other ideas?
Thx
