My SD card was encrypted before I updated to Oreo, now it gives a message to say I need to decrypt the SD in the original phone that I encrypted the card with (naturally this is the original phone)
Do I have to roll back and then decrypt and then upgrade again?
Thanks for any help guys

I dont think you can do it anymore now. This is the issue from Samsung's side which now can't be fixed because your phone thinks it was encrypted somewhere else.
your only option is to format sdcard and start again.

I gave up on trying to update from my rooted .57 so here i am...
I flashed back to the factory settings and now am updating all the way to .83 unrooted.
I am now on a clean slate on .83 with no root and none of my apps or anything.
I do not have a SD card just the internal memory.
Can i still root it without one now? or do i need to go buy a sd card to get it done? last time i used gladroot without one but i dont see an update for .83 thanks alot anyone for helping.
I did the same thing and installed GingerBreak to root my atrix. It does require an SD card though and it may format it too so back up anything important you have on there.

Thanks for the response. Did you have a SD card that you put in? or just the memory on the phone itself? Because i havnt bought one yet for my atrix. Let me know when ya can. If you did it without one? how can i do it? thanks
The instructions say to have an SD card and it will format any data on the SD card. I had an extra blank one laying around so i just stuck that in there during the root process.
will this affect the internal SD card? I want to update to 8.3 and keep root, if i cant then i'll flash sbf. I have spare SD card but also have loads of files on internal that i dont want to format
You can always copy your files from internal to an SD card or to your computer.
So I bought the S7 edge popped in my SD card and encrypted It. The card was giving me some issues so I backed up my files on my Pc formated the SD card and reloaded the files (MP3s) now when I go to play many of the songs they don't play and just say "sorry unable to play file type" it's odd because about half of the songs do work any ideas for fixing this I have a quite a large music collection and it would be quite pain staking to have to download these one by one again
Would encrypting them and decrypting them help?
Really none of the brilliant minds here at Xda have any idea?
Did you copy the files off with the SD in a pc reader or via mtp from the phone? I would guess the the base encryption key data is different since you reformatted the card, it would make sense to me because otherwise there would be no point to supporting SD encryption.

SD in a pc reader. Is there anyway for it to read the files again?

If Google did their work well, not likely.
I don't know the details but the only consumer hope would be with the card inserted in the device that formatted it as theoretically the encryption of the SD card should be done with private key data that is tied to the device it was formatted within (in addition to whatever private data you provided such as a PIN). Otherwise it would be too easy to just move the card to another device to decrypt the data.
I've seen some references to the Android SD card encryption *not* necessarily encrypting media files (music, movies, pictures?) so it's possible those files were not at all encrypted - which is substantiated by the fact that you can play SOME of them.
It may be that the files that don't play are, unfortunately, simply, corrupted data and not encrypted at all. ;^(

I had the exact problem, it seems to be some issue with a lot of S7's from from my research online. After almost giving up after a few weeks I finally did find a fix which hopefully will work for you and anyone else who has encountered/ will encounter this problem. Here are the steps I took:
1. After the sd card became unresponsive on my phone after encryption, I transferred all my files from the sd card to my PC. I had to do this via the sd card slot on my laptop as the card was not being recognized when connected via the phone.
2. I then formatted the sd card on my PC. For those not familiar with the process just right click on the card in "my computer" and select format then quick format.
3. I then reinserted the card into the phone to make sure it was recognized, then removed it again, inserted it into the PC and transferred all the files back over.
4. I went into my phone under security settings and changed lock screen security to "none" while leaving fingerprint on.
5. I put the sd card back into the phone with the files. They won't be accessible as yet since they're encrypted but the next step is to go ahead and encrypt the sd card. Wait however long you have to, for me it took less than a min. After this go back and decrypt the sd card, let that process run through then the files should now be decrypted and accessible. If the sd card goes unresponsive again just try again by formatting the sd card and putting the files back, this time maybe a few files at a time.
If this method works for you I would suggest backing up your data frequently and staying away from encrypting the sd card at least until samsung/android release a fix for this issue.
Hey there fellas i am new to these forums so i dont exactly know how this thing works so bear with me and my english.
I had samsung J5 which i encrypted both (sd card and device) but somehow ive broke my phone and but thankfully was able to recover my sd card. but when i insert my sd card into my new phone the data won't load up although its shows the names and amount of files it contains but no picture, videos or audios. i remember my password which i used for encrypting the (card and device) but it doesn't prompt me to put my password and processes to decryption. please help me out how can i safely decrypt the SD card with all my data.
I have recently upgraded to nougat 7.1.1 on my moto x play
after the upgrade i hard reset my phone.
i have Samsung 64 GB SD card which i formatted as internal storage as i had no need to remove SD card anytime.
After One month one day i see notification to reinsert the SD card and SD card is corrupted i can not see any of the data and i can't recover it on PC
i have read lot of threads on the internet and i found following things
1) Android encrypts your SD card while converting to adoptable storage and its key stored in the following location /data/misc/vold so this card can be read on your phone only
2) i have tried removing the card and reinserting 50 times, also i have connected the card with otg which also shows corrupted
3) to decrypt the data of the card I need the encryption key and then it can be decrypted on any Linux machine
https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/145443/how-to-decrypt-adopted-storage
but problem is I am using phone as it as from company no boot locker unlocked, no custom recovery and no root
i need to copy the encryption key to decrypt my data
if anyone knows how to root the phone without unlocking the boot loader please help it will be big saving for me

hi same issue comming form 6 updates to 7 no more sd card recognized... its mt dads phone he has a 128gb usb.. sd card in pc is working fine... so yeah never found a fix... so im gonna try a unlock bootloader flash custom rom and see if sd card works... causes yeah kinds sucks have in a nice sd card that cant be readed.. and there are no new phones with front facing speakers (even doh the moto is only single mono front speaker my dad paid 100€ for ir 2 years ago.. ans he doesn't wannr a 300€ phone but hard tot find cheaper with front facing speaker. anwyay you no luck fixing the sd probleem?
I was messing around today and installed the RR Oreo rom. Rom was great but I was cursed with the call bug. Caller couldn't hear me and I couldn't hear them. I went back to stock B32 and am now getting the message my SD card is corrupt. It isn't. TWRP can read my sd card fine and if I flash the Oreo Rom again it recognizes it without issue.
Any ideas on how to get my SD card back working with stock? Its 256G with a second sim attached. It's very difficult to backup all my goodies.
SOLVED: Thanks to @Srgqw Magisk 15 caused the corrupt card issue. Magisk 14 works with exFAT.
If you want to stick with this rom there is no other way other than backing up all your goodies and formatting it on this particular rom.
Get in twrp and connect to your PC, back everything up, boot your phone, it will ask you to format to use the SD card, follow those instructions.
Many had the same issue on PNW ,(first Oreo rom for this device) including myself.
Sorry, I missed that you went back to your old rom, I don't know about that. I formatted mine on the new rom that caused the sd card issue. But it's always good to back up and try since you can never trust SD cards lol
@JKSurf: I recommend AOSP Extended Oreo. It reads FAT32/exFAT MicroSDs perfectly fine for me.
Formatted micro SD to FAT in TWRP. Now B35 will read it. Pesky 4GB limit though ?
