I gave up on trying to update from my rooted .57 so here i am...
I flashed back to the factory settings and now am updating all the way to .83 unrooted.
I am now on a clean slate on .83 with no root and none of my apps or anything.
I do not have a SD card just the internal memory.
Can i still root it without one now? or do i need to go buy a sd card to get it done? last time i used gladroot without one but i dont see an update for .83 thanks alot anyone for helping.
I did the same thing and installed GingerBreak to root my atrix. It does require an SD card though and it may format it too so back up anything important you have on there.

Thanks for the response. Did you have a SD card that you put in? or just the memory on the phone itself? Because i havnt bought one yet for my atrix. Let me know when ya can. If you did it without one? how can i do it? thanks
The instructions say to have an SD card and it will format any data on the SD card. I had an extra blank one laying around so i just stuck that in there during the root process.
will this affect the internal SD card? I want to update to 8.3 and keep root, if i cant then i'll flash sbf. I have spare SD card but also have loads of files on internal that i dont want to format
You can always copy your files from internal to an SD card or to your computer.

I'm usually good about searching the forums and finding fixes for all my problems (and I've had many) but I can't find an answer to my current problem.
I am not able to install apps unless I remove my sd card. Whatever problem I have with my sd card might also be why my titanium won't restore anything. I've tried clearing market data/cache, using a cache cleaner app to clean my sd card cache, I still can't figure out why I can't install apps. This is universal across roms (cleared data each time)
Are there any fixes I've missed? I'm gonna assume its an sd card issue....
Help!
i have seen that happen on a couple custom roms, but you can always just unmount the sd card then remount it after you do the install, then you could move the app to the sd card
I've tried to unmount through the settings and I get a force close everytime. I've tried terminal as well using umount /sdcard and it says "failed." I've also gone back to an old rom I was using and I get the same problem. The sd card thing is a workaround, but is there a solution? My last resort would be to reformat my sd card.....
Ill reformat today when I get home from work. Ill report back later :/
Either your card needs a reformat, or your card is going bad. The only other things that could cause these kinds of problems is if say, the SD slot in your phone was going bad, or some other circuitry connected to it, in which case your sole solution would be to get a replacement phone.
I was getting that then I did a backup of my contacts and did a factory reset then reloaded all my app from the market. Now all is good

Thanks! I havent had a chance to get to a pc. Im hoping a reformat will do the trick.
I figured it out! I was about to reformat my sd card and I remembered reading somewhere that the .android_secure folder causing market problems..... So I tried deleting the folder and my apps started installing again! Not sure why this would be but it worked!
SD card loose
I had the same problem and I noticed that the SD card had backed out of the slot a little. I pushed it back in and everything works fine now. I wish I had seen that before the hard reset.
Can you change the SD Card in WP7 from a 4GB card to an 8GB or 16GB card without reformating the Phone.
Thanks

You can change it, but you'll lose everything you've installed and have an out the box phone so to speak.
Well at least that's what happened when I changed from my test SD card to my 8GB

I use SanDisk
no!!!will not read the new sd,you have to format the new one with the rom you are installing.
N.B: sandisk 8G is highly stable with wp7...
you can switch sd cards without starting over, but then you'd have to copy the partition from your old sd card to your new sd card.
it gets slightly complicated, but only because of the numbers of steps, not technical complications.
use Easeus partition software and try to replicate the exact partitions across the old card and the new card
good luck

Did this work for you? I made a thread about this possibility but nobody knew if it's really working.
Hey there,
my question is the other way. Is it possible to flash an other rom without having my SD in to safe settings and installed apps?
I tested this way:
1. turn off phone
2. pull out the SD
3. boot
My HD2 booted into WP7 and ran a blank WP7 such as it was fresh installed.
Then I turned it off and put the SD back in and booted. It booted into my ol status.
So no I want to if I can flash an other rom, put my already formatted SD with my WP7 settings back in? Is that maybe the best way to safe settings?

i think this link will explain you how to copy the partitions....and more
http://www.techienote.com/tag/technology
Thanks jianototi,
copying the wp7 partition between different sd cards works very well. The system accepts the copy and wp7 launches with all adjustments, downloads and installed apps.
My question now is: Can I reinstall a fresh wp7 nand and insert my sd from old installation? Will the sd be accepted? Or start wp7 with a virgin system?
regards
caiowa
so if we can move a wp7 from one sd card to another. Should it then not be possible to download from the internet, and just copy to sd-card?
Reason i ask is because i cannot get my wp7 to connnect to pc, so i cant get live services. However there seems to be a version now, where i just need to activate the phone.
If someone uploaded their data, can i download it, and update my wp7 that way?
yes put the new sdcard and restar to factory values

i was under the impression that it uses some sort of RAID over the card.
the best way to tell is to copy the card factory rest with one SD card, then swap the cards afterwards. Myguess is that it wont work the way you want it too, i doubt it will "give" you everything back on again.
The other night I got a NC with 3.1 and decided to root it and flash cm7 onto it. This all was going fine until after the rom flashed and I booted up the device I have micro SDCard 2GB in the NC and it isn't able to read the SD card it says I need to put one in. Every time I go to download something off the browser it says I need an SD card to download this so and so file. I used my phone SD card in the NC to see if that will work and same problem persists. I have .apk files on my SD card I would like to run on the NC but can't get them off the SD card. This NC belongs to my brother who I was trying to help out by rooting and putting cm7 on it for him but now there's really nothing he can do with it any and all help is welcome. If someone knows how to fix this please tell me. (When I plug it into the computer it still can't read the files on the NC. Even if I mount SD card or USB storage through recovery) please help
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
Try plugging in the SD card by itself to your PC to see if it got corrupted, and if it hasn't you can transfer your files, format it and give it another go. I hope that helps.
Yep. Sounds like a card corruption problem. I had one. Reformat was the only solution. Be prepared to sacrifice your apks. And always drop spare copies onto your computer, just in case.
So i went to flash a ROM and now it says while flashing that the flash was aborted because the system can't mount the SD card. I'm using the newest CWM and have flashed stuff before. Not sure what to do, it wont let me make backups, restore, or flash anything.
I find it kinda strange, because once I reboot my tablet, everything's working fine, but it's not letting me install a custom rom
And yes, I have...
1. Unlocked by booloader.
2. Rooted my phone along with installing superuser.
3. Installed CWM recovery through fastboot (or whatever it's called, lol)
Has anyone gone through the same thing?
Bump....
Cm on guys I really need to get this rolling ...
What class SD Card are you using? I have issues with CWM on this Tablet reading anything above a class 6. I have a Class 10 SD Card that I have to swap Out and put in a different slower class card to flash roms and what not so I personally have had to deal with this because of the speed. Anyway hope that helps you out.
I'll try another sd card and see if it work out. Thanks for the advice!!
Bump. Using a different SD card didn't work, unfortunately

Back up all ur SD card files to PC
In CWM, you will find a Advance/ partition Sd card
Use this and make a 128 mb one, Reboot to CWM and CWM will recognize your card.

thank you very much....really helpful
Please help me i have a similar problem. I tried to partition it and it worked but it wouldnt recognize my sd card. Idk what happened maybe i formatted by mistake and now i dont have a system (or atleast it wouldnt boot up) and i have a cwm that doesnt mount recovery so i cant flash.
please someone help me! i need my phone
FIXED!
Nevermind. I did it wrong. U were supposed to partition sd card make it 128-128 and then while still in advanced setting restart launcher. Then you have to go to mount the card manually through mounts and storage.
if you just shut down the device it wouldnt work.
thank you for helping me fix this demonntl
My TMOUS HD2 (rooted, running ICS 4.0.4 with 16gb Micro SD card) isn't reading my Micro SD Card, when rebooted or SD taken out and put back in, it says 'Safe to Remove' and all my apps that were installed in SD suddenly disappear in Trebuchet and appear as non-loading in Go Launcher. I read it on my TF201 and my computer and they all say it is supposedly empty, although I had installed Temple Run 2 just hours before on my SD. When I place it in my computer, it detects the card but it asks if I want to format (which I don't want) and in my Transformer Prime (TF201) it just doesn't read it. My card had everything, and I don't know how to get it back. I don't know if I have to get a new card and reformat or screw my rom and install JB. Is the card just dead and all the stuff deleted or is it unreadable? Help! Plus, It's NOT ROOTED according to my phone, which makes me really worried if I have to root it again ._. and if I have to reinstall a rom. By the way (I know this is a lot) I tried to take a screenshot, but, again, it doesn't work since storage is on SD thanks to editing stuff in ROM Toolbox. Please help me, it would mean a lot. Thanks!
