Xposed on X Compact with Nougat - Sony Xperia X Compact Questions & Answers

I would like to ask if anybody has managed to successfully install and run Xposed for Nougat on our phone.
My phone gets stuck in boot after flashing. Also anything newer than Magisk v12 also gets stuck during boot.
Any thoughts on how to solve this?

I got it working. I installed stock Nougat ftf. 238, then i flashed Genesis Kernel 1.06 and flashed twrp via adb. After that i installed xposed in the usual way - insall App and Flash via twrp. But i only tried xposed without magisk, it is not sytsmeless. Its working perfect.

Installing N Beta on Rooted and Xposed Device

Looking to install the preview, just wondering what steps I have to follow to install the update? Looking to do a dirty install. Do I have to remove root and xposed? Does a systemless root allow updating with no issue?
Cheers!
I've also got TWRP installed which I imagine it wont like!
Were you able to install xposed on Android N beta?
I was able to install xposed but not the framework... But that's mainly because of twrp being stuck on the splash screen. I tried flashing the framework through flashfire but that didn't work.
Edit: spelling
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/how-to-switch-to-android-n-preview-t3409538
Sadly, you will need a decrypted device if you want a working twrp. Otherwise you can follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guide-android-nougat-developer-preview-t3410906
For just root.
As for xposed it has not been updated to have support for any developer preview as far as I am aware. If you find xposed as a need, I would recommend staying on Marshmallow!
not totally correct, you can flash the latest (6.0.1) vendor.img, flash TWRP, do whatever you need to do, then flash the N vendor.img and you have a working TWRP without a decrypted phone
@Vekhez if you look at the second link it is similar to that.

Trying to install Magisk on SM-G935F H3G UK, not working.

So my S7 Edge (running 6.0.1) was rooted with SuperSU. I installed Magisk by flashing it and it told me it doesn't pass the safety net check
So i've done literally all i can think of to try and install it
I've flashed the stock firmware back, installed magisk and then get told i have no root to use magisk
i've installed SU on stock then magisk and get Error 1
I've tried upgrading to 7.0 and using CF-Auto root, but that doesn't work ("seandroid is not enforcing" error)
I've tried using Superstock and just get an "integrity error"
does anyone know how to install magisk?
Fixed it
Nevermind i fixed it.
For anyone wondering v12 doesnt install MagiskSU for some reason? find your firmware online, extract the boot.img from it, flash that via TWRP to your boot. then flash magisk v11.1 and THAT will install magisk and let SN pass.

Magisk hell resolved??!!!!!!!??!!!!!!!!!!??

im new at thisxda stuff but i am 90 percent sure i figured out how to keep magisk from uninstalling after a reboot... YOU MAY NEED TO UNINSTALL MAGISK AND ALL MODULES BEFORE DOING THIS USING MAGISK UNINSTALLER basically you have to also install an older version of supersu and it has to be an aroma installer and install as SYSTEM also make a backup of the boot.img just incase you get bricked if you install the supersu app it will say su binary occupied but install should stay install supersu aroma (2.78v2) from https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3879523&d=1474248173 before and possibly after magisk install...only tested with magisk 16.2 beta channel and regular install not patched boot on Axon 7 with RR 8.1 weekly 6.0.0 20180225 (us variant) but should work on others probably...let me know how this goes for you
TRY AT OWN RISK I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DEVICE BOOTLOOPS OR BRICKS
If anyone has a better way to get magisk to hold after a few restarts please let me know
sidenote:this supersu does work with magisk not installed and definately keeps root
(stock boot.img is in initial zip for custom rom) select intall imgs in twrp and flash the boot partition as needed)
ALSO YOU CAN ALWAYS DIRTY FLASH CUSTOM ROM same build or higher IF ALL GOES TO **** AND WONT LOOSE APPS OR DATA AT LEAST ON RR
works for me without problems after last 2 years on any Rom.
dont know what you doing wrong?!
I cant get to bypass safetynet V: other than that root works fine

this actually fixed sn for me without the fix installed
Ever tried magisk v15.3? I never had problems with uninstalling, but everything above 15.3 won't pass safety net,at least for me/on stock nougat b10 rom.

Xposed on Stock Oreo??

Hello everyone.
Is there anyway to install Xposed on Stock 8.1 Oreo? I already installed it flashing the ZIP and tried with Magisk and it didn't work, results in a bootloop!

Same problem here, bootloop on Stock and Xposed but it work if first install Xposed apk, then install xposed from Magisk, and finally on Xposed menu do a soft reboot , never a normal reboot. When install Xposed modules soft reboot, never turn off or normal reboot. If make mistake and bootloop, first unistall xposed with the unistall zip, then root with Magisk zip, reboot and phone will boot normal.

Thanks for the answer, so, basically you're telling me that if i do a Normal Reboot i am going to get Bootloop and will need to reinstall everything again? Damn, that's sad. I think there's no way except waiting for a real Fix or using an Custom Oreo rom

Same issue here, waiting for a word from @topjohnwu and @rovo89
So I've gotta install Xposed Installer and Magisk Manager, install Xposed from Magisk, soft reboot through Xposed Installer and then I can use it normally? Really pissed since I had to sleep at 3am last night because my phone bootlooped and I ended up reflashing latest stock from fastboot.
EDIT: Just saw this is G5 Plus forum, but it should work the same on G5 right?
EDIT2: Soft reboot didn't work, neither did uninstalling xposed and installing magisk. Back to re-flashing my phone...

I think so.
I'm having this same issue after flashing Xposed ver90 on my Moto G5 Plus running 8.1. Installing the correct Xposed version and rebooting casues a boot-loop.
Flashing the uninstall.zip and wiping davlik through TWRP sometimes gets out of the boot-loop. Other times it doesn't and the ROM has to be flashed again. Waiting for a permanent fix on this.
Unfortunately I can't get GravityBox without the Xposed Framework.
I have installed xposed framework on stock oreo.
Ago time I used fastboot method to updated to oreo. I have my device rooted with magisk and the last versión of twrp recovery... and yesterday looking for news in Xda I found an update OPS28.85-17 or to be precise a debloated ROM created by NzedPred. I decided to flash and also too the kernel elemental x g5+ v3.00 for oreo stock.
now xposed and the magisk modules works...

So does it mean that custom kernel is one of the requirement to get Xposed working on oreo ?
Thank you

Yes I think so... but I haven't tried to install xposed in ops28.85-13 with a custom kernel 'cause I had already updated. If you'll try let me know if it works please. Maybe you use another kernel but for now there is no way on stock kernel al least for me same bootloop result.

Really interesting, thanks for your report.
Found this thread late, after multiple installs and attempts to install Xposed and getting either boot loop or soft brick as a result.
For what it's worth, I got those results with the Elemental X kernel.
I only use 1 or 2 modules for Xposed so it's not enough for me to go back to nougat at this point.
Subscribing to thread and hoping this is resolved soon.
Thank you very much for this information. Actually, I had upgraded to Oreo and I liked it a lot, but I went back to Nougat only for Xposed and now I go back to upgrade and stay at 8.1 with Xposed

If you do upgrade to oreo and install xposed please post on steps as well as how good Xposed works on g5+ on stock oreo !
Thank you
Any news on this? I'd like to stay on stock for some time, maybe until lineage gets an official release.
I'm running Xposed via Magisk with no issues on NZedPred's TWRP Flashable Stock Oreo with ElementalX kernel

G4 plus is bricking after installing Magisk?

Recently i had a hard brick i had to do a recovery from. So far ive got everything back to working order with latest TWRP installed and everything is working with no problems since. But now I try to install Magisk through TWRP, have the latest version and Magisk manager installed, after its finished it dosent boot. I have to restore from my latest backup after. Also same thing happened when trying to install SuperSu. Anyway to fix this?
What firmware or ROM are you currently running, and what version of magisk are you using?

Before you root your device, you must replace your stock kernel.
Most people use ElementalX.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/development/kernel-elementalx-g4-0-01-t3424836/page192
Flash ElementalX through twrp, go through setup and then flash magisk. You'll do good.
If you're confused about ElementalX setup, go through installation tutorials.
Cheers.

Do you mean the stock Oreo firmware? We don't have stock Pie
If so, there's ElementalX 3.0.1 https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/development/kernel-elementalx-g4-0-01-t3424836 or Loony: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/development/3-10-108-loony-kernel-t3726793

For Nougat, stock kernel is not rootable.
You have to replace it with elementalx kernel and then flash magisk.
However, when talking about Oreo stock firmware,
Situation gets inverted.
When flashed magisk with ElementalX 3.0.1, phone will not boot up.
And, stock kernel can be easily rooted by simply flashing magisk.
So, there is no need of ElemenralX kernel for rooting Oreo stock ROM unless you need it.
You're correct. I meant Oreo.
On my device it never works. Not on the stock kernel, or elemental, or loony.
It boot loops until I run the Magisk uninstaller.

Hmm, that's odd - are you using magisk 19.3 or a recent version of magisk? When you flashed magisk, did you wipe cache before rebooting?
Is this behaviour observed on completely stock firmware (i.e. you've restored back to full stock Oreo, including a clean stock boot kernel)?

I think so. I will double check.
I actually don't need Magisk - my goal is to install Xposed. So in theory I could just try a different superuser. I'm just used to Magisk.

I hope you get xposed working on Oreo - if you do get magisk functioning, maybe this xposed plugin could work? https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-systemless-xposed-t3388268
Else there's edxposed https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/list-xposed-modules-android-pie-ed-t3892768 though I have no idea if xposed functions on stock Oreo.
