Ok, It seems like you need help!
So J320FN isn't getting Marshmallow, but there are what we call in XDA and anywhere else, Custom ROMS!
Now this practically optimizes your device for better performance, along with a newer version of Android!
When you searched for your device (SM-J320FN) you probably found LineageOS.
LineageOS is a Custom ROM for a big variety of devices.
Now for the J320FN we have LineageOS 13.0 (Marshmallow) and LineageOS 14.1 (Nougat), while have LineageOS 15 (Oreo) in the works thanks to our crew including the Main dev, djeman.
Now to flash Custom ROMS you need a recovery which you flash via Odin.
Then copy the ROM zip to the SD or Device storage.
Boot into recovery by holding VOL. UP+POWER+HOME at boot.
Wipe Dalvik Cache, Cache, Data, Internal Storage (If you put ROM on SD) and System.
Then Flash the ROM with Gapps (Google Apps, Such as Play store...)
Wait and Reboot

thanks so much @Diamond26!
i'd played around with a couple of installations with no joy... but in the process have installed Odin, so am aware of that.
my main reason for wanting to do this, is to be able to access adaptable storage. 8gb device space is a joke! I've installed maybe 2 or 3 apps, but apps can't be updated as it's already out of space (even though 400mb is available)! totally unusable!
i'll try this out... i may be back

My Pleasure :fingers-crossed:

so i think the developer setting was turned off and i started to get the FRP lock problem.
i managed to use Odin to reinstall Android, but it is now stuck in bootloop.
i've installed Kies3 and Smart Switch, but neither recognise the handset (not compatible), so i can't reinstall firmware, etc.
i'm kinda stuck... help!

Im currently on a J320FN with a stock 5.1 rom (manually updated via sammobile) but have instead done the following :
1. Got a good Android kitchen (A bash/shell program that makes creating roms easy as could be) I woukd suggest SuperR's Kitchen due to it being the most updated one. On XDA portal?
2. Downloaded the firmware i want from sammobile.
3. Debloated the rom (option in the kitchen to remove unwanted apps from system/app or system/priv-app) making space.
4. Added Supersu (again the kitchen walks you through all the options for rooting the rom).
5. Added my own apps to run as system (such as adaway or nova launcher to replace TouchWiz)
6. Created the rom and flashed the zip.
Now im on partitioning the system block in order to save 2gb of space i dont need since the new system is 780mb from 1.9gb..
Both ways are good and safe / stable if you are careful, it's just that one provides updates and sources and build threads (LOS) , the other is a great and fun way to learn more about android and rom building plus you get to have it 100% YOUR WAY.. With building your own rom using the kitchen you can even go as far as editing the settings apk to rearrange the options or add ur own... And many more thing to discover...
Good luck no matter what you choose to take from this wonderful community!
Peace

I tried it for the same reason and it turned out to be a mistake. The rom I tried (Lineage 13) is full of display bugs. Now I lost my original firmware and probably voided the warranty. Your best bet is just to move your apps to the SD card instead

Your warranty is void, im sure Lineage OS has the appropriate notice about this..
Yiu could seek help about your issue, perhaps there is something along the lines that you missed.. Wiping dalvik and or cache and re trying it could help..You should always do a nandroid backup using twrp or cwm recovery or even Titanium Backup / My Backup Pro. It is something that you should practice since you're messing with any type of software and hard-flashing firmware.
Again, consider a stock rom with root and xposed module, a partitioned system block and deodexed apks..
You can get firmware releases for your country and carrier from sammobile.com anfd flash it via odin. That should give you OTA updates and stock stability...

This is the best thing i heard so far!
I was looking for this. I like the UI of Samsung, and it was stable and fast for me for daily usage. Had some bad experiences with LOS and RR so i was thinking of re-flashing stock, then rooting and then removing system apps. The only issue i have is too little free space. Is the effect same if i do that compared to your method? Can you tell me what happened to your little experiment? How much free space do you have?
Can i flash your modified rom and get it to work on my phone?

hi everyone, sorry to ask again, i seem to be going round in circles! can anyone advise the next step?
- i installed lineageOS ok, but must have accidentally turned off OEM Unlock, so am now getting "Blocked by FRP Lock
- i reinstalled a version of original firmware, but that is getting stuck in bootloop
- i've tried reinstalling original firmware downloaded from sammobile, with Odin, but that fails
- i've installed Kies and Smart Switch on my PC, but both say the handset is not supported, so I can't install firmware that way
what should i try next?

Im sorry im replying so late, given your post i take it you need some help...I wont go big here and tell you i can fix exactly what you want, however i have managed to get it all working besides repartitioning the mmcblk0!
Im out of town during weekends for work but i can possibly have a rom ready for you by Monday night (GMT+2).
I will still recommend you download SuperR's Kitchen (if possible the donate version)and start cooking your own rom,the kitchen provides 100% j3xnlte and j3 variants!
You WILL need to download the firmware i will point you to for the modem but its for better use also, you can run the stock for a while and then flash (mine or your own) the debloated/deknoxed/lighter version.
About the space,i have attached a SS from my Smart Manager..I have magisksu,magisk-xposed,iYTBP,gapps pico + photos, swiftkey replacing Sammy Keyboard and nova launcher replacing TW..FFox,Yahoo Mail,TiBu,Lucky Patcher and Facebook / Messenger...Some i have placed as system apps and others preinstalled as user apps (such as Busybox and Telsa Unread or Adaway that don't work correctly when placed in /system/app)..
Still i have Airdroid moving files locally and have at least 600mb of romzips being moved all the time while flashing....
That 5.1Gigas you see are 100% usable for me because i can swap system and data apps to my liking...also trust me,if you have relationship issues with googke, debloated roms come down to 1/3 of original size...
Let me know what i can help with, have a blasting weekend!
Peace

Download TWRP if im not mistaken by djeman and flash that through odin! That passes just make sure to UNTICK auto reboot so you can reboot to recovery after removing battery(or just ignore the unticking if ure d
fast enough to hold vol up + home + pwr while the flash resets)
Wipe system,dalvik,cache,data and reboot...

[Solved] Encryption Unsuccessful error for samsung vibrant.

Ok, Tonight i tried to install ICS Passion rom on my old samsung vibrant( is running bionix 2.2 rom). Following the instruction from ICS Passion rom thread , - First i tried to install CW7 gingerbread rom ( got some boot loop, ..)
- Then i boot to recovery mode again , install ICS passion rom, screen flashed like crazy and got boot loop one more time.
- Reboot to recovery again, reinstall ICS passion , everything went though perfectly this time.
- Finally, my phone booted up and show me this screen ( WTF***** )

- I tried to press the reset button , phone turned off/on and showed me this screen again. Tried this 3-4 time but nothing changed .
How i solve this problem ?
- I tried to search google to get more information about what is going with my phone. Basically, there are alot of people have exactly same problem as mine.
- I found one instruction that told me to fixed the problem, i need to flash 2.1 stock rom by using ODIN ( download everything from this link: http://androidspin.com/2010/08/09/how-to-restore-or-recover-your-samsung-vibrant/.)
1st Attempt: :
- Open ODIN, load file, put my phone into download mode..Hit start.Nothing happened. ODIN recognized my phone but the process stopped
2nd Attempt: :
- Changed usb port, did exactly same thing , the process now stopped at "analysis file" ..step
3rd Attempt: :
- Looked up google again, someone suggested that using Eugene_2E_JK2_Froyo.tar.md5 instead the stock 2.1 firmware might help. So i downloaded Eugene file, ran ODIN again. Still out of luck, process stopped at "leave CS.." step. At this point, i thought i bricked my phone already. So i unplugged usb cable from my phone. Tried to turn off, turn on my phone again, and it show me this screen (
4th Attempt: :
- I took the battery off, put it in, put my phone into download mode one last time. Open ODIN, load 2.1 stock file this time, hit start button and then BUMP..ODIN started to re-flash the firmware..And now my phone back to stock 2.1 .
P/s:
- sorry for my English, but hope this might help other people who get this error when trying to install ICS on their Vibrant.
- Any suggestion for me to install ICS again in correct way ? Thank in advance!
Does your internal sd card mount and can you access it? If yes, then you probably are the first one to get through this error. Congrats! Eugene's froyo has saved many many phones.
Edit: Strike that, it was a silly question.
No no really, do you have access to everything?? Cause i havent heard of a single person yet that got thru this bug with their sd card intact
Sent from a cell tower to the XDA server to you.
Finally, I successfully installed ICS on my vibrant. When i open setting, storage, it show my internal internal storage(about 2GB) - usb storage (about 14GB) - and my 8GB external sdcard. When i connect my phone to my computer, turn on usb storage, i can acces internal SD and external SD card ( can copy, paste, transfer files..) The gallery is able to show/view/play both video and image i have on my internal-external SD card but i can only access the internal one. I tried to find the external SD card but don't know where is it located. Is it mount as folder external_sd ?
****************
Ok, i found it. On ICS, the external sd card is mount as /emmc. Now i am able to access both of them. Nothing is broken in here.
In Passion your external is now EMMC.
So you can get to your internal just fine? When you pull up settings->storage you get readings for internal AND external.

Now the question is...were you able to recover all your data from your internal storage? Or did it get wiped out in the process?
I wouldn't necessarily say you have solved the bug. I would rather say...you are extremely lucky sir The reason why i say that is because i could flash back to 2.1 as you did in your 4th attempt and would still get the same results (bootloop). I would really like to know what it was that you did...i have tried everything you've mentioned in your post numerous times in the past and still haven't found a proper fix for this bug. From your post it appears to be more like trial and error...in other words you just got lucky and somehow fixed your phone. Can you please elaborate and be more specific as to what you did. I and the many other people affected by this bug could really use your help since you are probably the only person who has successfully squashed the bug so to speak.
Good to hear your phone is functioning properly. This could only be good news.

- Because i did a factory reset so all kind of system data is clear, but photo, video, music...other files in both external and internal sd card still there and accessable. Just like you wipe your phone when you install a new rom.
- I think the key in here is :
+ i got the error message, and i tried to press the reset button 3-4 times without take off my sd-card from my phone. And it's still give the error message
+ I odin to stock 2.1 . fail - tried 2 time
+ change usb port, flash 2.1 again. fail - tried 2 time
+ flash eugene 2.2 ...fail. And while my phone still show me the downloading screen , i just took battery off, put it on, turned on and it show me the new screen ( computer-phone)
+ turn off, put to download mode, flash 2.1 again and success.
==> that is pretty much everything i remember. And i'm sure i remember it right.

i always pick rom base on the view of rom's thread. roms updated daily doesn't mean it is more stable than other roms ( this is what i learn from XDA)
This bug seems to happen with several diff ics roms, not just passions....
If i may venture my uneducated guess as to what happened to you:
As your odin was writing something on your phone and you pulled the batt, you corrupted the data... that means that the encrypted data and all that stuff got wiped on the next attempt and its like you had a new phone..
Prob wrong tho

YESSS!
I had this issue today october/31/2012, i followed OP instructions and it works! Thank you very much. The only difference is that i pressed the reset phone button and when i realized that was a mistake ( you know, when installing something and you just click and say:yeah, yeah, whats next?) i pulled out the battery as soon as i can, i searched on the web, found this thread and instead of flashing stock firmware (eclair) i flashed froyo straight.
I hope this helps somebody like it help me.
So you have access to your internal SD?
Also what ROM were you running?
Did it happen after flashing or was it random?
Please give as much info as possible as this issue (EU) is still, for the most part, a bit of an enigma.
I approve this message.
Hello there
Yes, i have access to internal and external sd card
Before the issue I was running chimera v2.2 and chimera kernel but i wanted to flash aokp lastest releases so i used odin to stock, then flashed cm7 (here it give me bootloops but i just went to next step) then chimera 2.2 (here was when EU appears, my intention was after flashing chimera 2.2 flash aokp )
If you need more details just ask me.
You're actually very fortunate to still have Int SD access esp. after pressing the EU reset button. Since EU has been primarily associated with ICS for our Vibes (and theoretically wiping /data with CWM5), you can just skip Chimera altogether. After restocking and flashing CM7 (vibrantmtd), either go straight to AOKP JB or use a recent CM10 as an interim flash.
I know im fortunate, the reason i pulled out the battery after pressing the reset button is because i knew about the EU issue.
About flashing CM7 and then AOKP JB i did not know that i can do it that way, thank you.

Xposed Framework problems on Samsung Galaxy S4

I am new to this forum and far from being a tech wiz on phones and android. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 GTi9500 running a rooted Android 5.0.1
I downloaded the latest Xposed which installed but when I try to set up the framework, it displays "Xposed is not (yet) compatible with Android SDK version 21 or your processor architecture (armeabiv7a). It has a further message that says CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE: could not load library libdvm.so needed by "/data/datade.robv.android.xposed.installer/cache/app_process"; caused by library "libdvm.so" not found
Please someone help, I am getting somewhat overwhelmed
What ROM are you using? As far as I know Xposed doesn't work with stock 5.0.1 Samsung Firmwares unless they're deodexed.

You cannot just use Xposed on Samsung stock.
You need to deodex it and then flash this special version of Xposed.

Ok as I said I a complete noob at this stuff, please bear with me... how does one "deodex" a Samsung and how do I "flash" it? This all started with buying a simple app for parental control, which is akin to buying a car to find that it actually needs an engine to run, only to find that the dealer doesn't sell engines, which after hunting around you find an engine dealer, which might work, except for the engine mounts need to be different, but the person supplying the engine doesn't install mounts, so you have to hunt for new mounts, etc. etc. etc. So your helpful replies are more than gratefully received.

You should start with reading the link I gave you.
Also if everything doesn't make sense yet then you are not ready for it. Learn about custom roms, custom recovery, flashing, rooting etc.
Instead of deodexing you can also flash a custom rom. Plenty of guides here tell you how to do it. But you should just start with reading and learning.

Yes... have been reading the link... and the link in the link and etc. as best I can
Yes in the process have learned a lot about flashing, got Odin working (and Jodin with some difference) and CWM going on the Samsung, and created a recovery
As for flashing an existing custom rom that will support (or already has) Xposed Framework... I'm going to sound obtuse but how to find a reliable one?
One step forward, two steps back
OK, so I managed to get CWM onto the phone, created a recovery on sd card 1, the checksum checked out, so i thought good to go. Got a deodexed rooted zip from the xda forum (Halcyon_Project_Quantom.zip + OTA2 and OTA 3 for my i9500), got through the installation ready to "enjoy", and it fired up... so thinking I'd made progress, bravely went ahead following the included link and downloaded an Xposed.... Odin did it's thing, and primed for success (or so I thought) rebooted the phone... that is at least as far as the Samsung sparkly logo... but alas no further, there it stayed. So feeling confident that I had a recovery, I cleared out the cache(s) and went through the recovery, which appeared to complete successfully. Feeling confident that I was at least back to square one, I booted the phone... and waited... and it still sticks on the Samsung Logo.... won't boot into safe mode, will come up in recovery, will come up in download... but safe mode, normal mode... forget it.
PLEASE PLEASE HELP

Certainly wiped cache partition, dalvik cache, wipe data, didn't see anywhere that offered "preload and swipe to wipe", so not sure what is meant by that, but I wiped anything that suggested it could be wiped

I'm doing that... followed those exact steps, but it still just hangs up on boot... I could send you step by step screen shots, maybe you can spot something I'm doing wrong.
Here's a series of screen shots of what I am doing ... the process ends with the Samsung sitting there with the sparkling samsung logo going no further... except the top of the phone gets hot.

Alright do this:
I never like CWM recovery . Use TWRP recovery instead.
Download it from here:
https://dl.twrp.me/i9500/twrp-2.8.7.0-i9500.img.tar.html
Flash it with Odin in the same way you did CWM. Uncheck auto-reboot before flashing though.
Then flash the rom again.
If it still doesn't work, try another rom. For example:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/i9500-develop/rom-xxuhof3-mbp-v1-prism-style-t3159655
Just as a further update.... I finally got the Halcyon Rom to boot up, mostly through trial and error such as wiping the cache and rebooting over and over... eventually it went through, so that's a great relief. I've made a further recovery backup (just in case), so now I just need to figure out which Xposed will get framework on the phone. Any suggestion would be very very welcome, but following the link (and yes, reading), I'm planning to go with xposed-v75-sdk21-arm-arter97-exynos_requestConcurrentGC.zip
Keeping fingers crossed....

SM-T530NN stock rom

hey all - I need to get back to factory - I can't connect to kies - can't get USB drivers to work - I have un and reinstalled them a number of times - same with kies - i am rooted rite now - if I go into recovery and just do a factory reset will that do the job ? or would I be better off trying to find a stock rom online and then flash it ? I know the model number is odd and that's because they label this tablet as an "education" version of the tab 4 NU model - any help would be greatly appreciated - rite now my tablet is so screwed up its almost unusable -

Run in normal operation the unrooting process that supersu includes, then boot to recovery and perform a factory reset and that should get you back to "stock"
m
still not where I want or need to be - my tablet is jacked - lol - pc won't recognize it - even after un and re installing usb drivers and kies - playstore keeps stopping - can't update play services - idk where to go from here - lol - i lost all backups due to a faulty SD card - i just wish I could find either a new rom that will work on my model or at least a stock rom -

Okay explain in GLORIOUS DETAIL what "jacked" means.
If you can still boot to normal operation goto setting/about device and click/tap [dance] on Build number seven times [like the holy hand grenade of antioch but more than three] xD
that enables developer options.
goto developer options and enable usb debugging under debugging, plug in, run adb shell and wait for the nag screen to come up on tab and select groovy.
if still no then, check you're using a/the correct cable.
Alternately KIES blows.
Alternately access adb via recovery, you do have a custom recovery installed?
if in recovery, for adb run,
adb shell mount /data
adb shell mount /system
then
adb shell
and do what you need to from there.
m
My face when @moonbutt74 mentioned the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch:

Also @remotehugger the cyanogenmod variants you were asking about should work for you (I always liked BlissPop better than Pac LP but to each his own). I would recommend against the marshmallow ones for the time being since they're still pretty buggy. Also, since you say your device is an "Education version" of the T530NU, have you tried any of the T530NU firmware files in Odin?
"And the Lord did grin. And the people did feast upon the lambs, and sloths, and carp, and anchovies, and orangutans, and breakfast cereals, and fruit bats, and large chu..." (Book of Armaments 2:9-29)
Also M is right, Kies absolutely blows. The only thing it's ever done with consistency in my experience is not work properly
well...I factory reset because playstore stopped working all of sudden - it opens but as soon as try to update anything or install anything it instantly force closes - i tried all the obvious, clearing cache and data - making sure dwnld manager is turned on - un installing updates and even tried flashing tbo's playstore and still no luck - then tried connecting to my pc and no matter which usb port or cable I tried it wouldn't get recognized - tried un and re installing latest usb drivers and only reason I downloaded kies was to stile if it would recognize it but still no go - tried un rooting from within SU app amd that did nothing - i still have custom recovery and am able to boot into dwnld mode for Odin - i was going to Odin stock firmware but I can't find it anywhere - and was thinking maybe just flashing new rom but wasn't stile ire which one I could use because of the stupid "education" edition and ending in NN instead of NU -

I'm fairly confident the cyanogenmod variants should work for you, they're intended for the SM-T530, not the SM-T530NU, and yet they still work fine for the NU
was it blisspop you recommended ? only thing I'm afraid of is not having anything to fall back on - unless you think stock firmware for the NU would work then I could Odin to that if need be - and thank you for the help -

Yes to both. I would recommend BlissPop (the marshmallow Bliss is not stable enough yet for daily driver in my opinion, disappointingly enough) and I firmly believe an SM-T530NU Odin firmware file will work for your device. From everything you said, you have an SM-T530NU in everything but name. Make a nandroid backup of stock, saved to SD card before you flash a custom rom, just to be sure. You can always delete the backup once you discover how superior cyanogenmod is to stock

okay i think i might know what's going on, give play and it's services about 20 minutes to update themselves after you re-establish your account.
then reboot and give it a try.
and enable usb debugging!

If you had a parsing error while trying to update Google Play Services with the apk, it sounds like you downloaded the wrong architecture or dpi, did you pay attention to the last three digits in the filename?
I did - mine ends in 434 and I dwnld the corresponding one - just tried again and got the same issue - idk - gonna try flashing blisspop and see what happens - i have philz recovery and that should be ok correct ? I noticed that the rom itself is under 300 mb's - man that seems small - and again, thank you for all the advice and help -
also, even after factory reset my youtube and playstore are still blacked out, should I delete those manually before flashing or will will that be taken care of with using the wipe for a new rom install in philz ?

First off you have the wrong Google Play Services apk; starting with Google Play Services v8, -4YZ is for 6.0 (Marshmallow) and -2YZ is for 5.0 and 5.1, so you need the one ending in 234. I think Philz will work to install Blisspop, if not, check out TWRP. CM roms are always smaller in size, that's one of the numerous things I love about it over touchwiz (stock samsung).
You'll just do a wipe to install the rom in philz and that ought to take care of everything. You might have to update Google Play Services still since those gapps are somewhat out of date
oh crud - i will try that play services just to see if that fixes my current issues - still gonna go to blisspop though - thank you for everything - gonna flash this wknd and will report back when done cuz I'm sure you all will be hanging on the edge of your seats wondering - lol -

Galaxy S4 SPH-L720T -> twrp, root, customrom and kernel(few questions!)

Heyo, lets get started ruining this device even more! See if we can't brick it ey?
Anyways first off the battery is draining like a madman, 1% every 30 seconds or so. The thing is not getting the performance in games that it should be, using other devices with lower end hardware as a reference(1.1ghz quad core, adreno 305, 2gb ram one touch, and 1.2ghz quad core, adreno 306, 1.3gb ram kyocera), it keeps micro-stuttering while browsing chrome and doing basic actions with the UI, also when the battery is draining too(funny, sometimes while I have the charger plugged in and do basic activies such as chrome, youtube, read books, mess with menu settings the battery actually charges instead of deplete, but sometimes, seemingly always now, it depletes just as fast as though it was unplugged).
Anyways I have decided to try and customize the device with the plethora of information on here and all over the web for this device(after doing a lot more "research" of course and laying everything out for myself step by step to try to minimize failure.
First question is how much of a chance is there to brick the device installing TWRP alone? Really want to get that on there before doing anything, then install SuperSU from there with zip flash. And does it matter if I use a .tar or .img version of TWRP to flash with odin? The latest version of TWRP is in .img format and the tutorials I read say to use a .tar.
After that witch should I do try first, custom rom or custom kernel? What custom rom would be best at this point in time(5/13/2016) for this device, 100% compatible and fully tested. Also a kernel(unless overclocking can be unlocked within the custom rom, in witch case less chance of me ****ing up yet another android device).
One last thing, I really hope that even I am successful in doing all of this without ****ing up the phone that it does not turn out to be a fruitless effort, how much performance gains can I expect from all of this, custom rom, debloat after root, set sd as default storage after root(package does not belong to 2000 afterall), and then maybe a slight overclock on the cpu and gpu.
And thats all assuming that one day after getting all of this to work that one day I don't wake up and for no apparent reason boot up the phone and find its bootlooped or something without ever changing anything once all of this is done, I mean if I get the thing working as I would like it to work theres no more reason for me **** with it is there? Also I guess no reason to even have the thing if it aint gonna function how I need it to function right?
Thanks for the help though anyways, if anybody even decides to help me this time in a manner that they are not just "helping" just because the end result ****s me over.
Thanks again.
Oh one other problem I am having with the phone I was hoping a custom rom might fix, my Apps will not register as the correct size in Application manager. A 2gb game is showing up as 50mb total data, and when using "Move to SD Card" it only shows only like 200kb of data on the sd card, it does with with every single app on the phone. I know should not be like this because the last 2 phones I had were able to move every single byte of data from every one of the same exact apps to the SD card without an issue. Plus the application manager not registering the correct app size is just bugging me.

Well first it sounds like you need a new battery, I suggest having a couple and an external charger (it's great for gaming, just pop in a new fully charged battery). To install TWRP with Odin you need the tar file. The chance of Helicon with TWRP is almost zero, recovery is always overwritten when you flash a stock tar in Odin. So if something is messed up, just flash the stock tar and you are back to stock, grab it at www.sammobile.com . When you Odin TWRP make sure that you uncheck Auto Reboot in Odin. I would suggest my ROM as it is still being updated every few months, but I am biased. I use my S4 for gaming and this thing can handle PSP emulation when it is tweaked right.
Wicked X is my ROM and it's located here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3115583

Ok thanks, a little reluctant to install an OS with the name "Wicked" though.
Any ideas why the stock Application Manager is being wacky, done several factory resets. For instance I have installed Fifa 16 about 5 times now just to see if it would fix the data readout in App manager, the Game is at least 1.5gb total data, app manager shows it as about 50-70mb, when using "Move to SD Card" it shows about 700kb of data on sd card.
Whats the deal?
Also before flashing TWRP with odin I have to unlock bootloader or something?

No, bootloader is already unlocked. I can't tell you on the other without more information. What ROM are you on? Have you done any modifications? Have you Odined a full stock tar?
I bought this phone used on cl. Fully stock not a single mod on it as far as I am aware. The only thing I have done is factory reset.
It seems half the time as well when I Uninstall apps the data stays in misc section of storage manager. I have to go into recovery and clear cache and I get my space back. And misc section of storage manager will be back down to its normal size.
@ your comment about loader. You absolutely certain and no bs that if I attempt to flash something (even just twrp) it ain't gonna fail and go tit's up because I didn't unlock bootloader or something?
Just lost 2 phones already simply from uninstslling gltools after it failed to produce my desired results. Install went fine, but uninstslling rebooted the phones and got one caught in boot loop other just sits on manufacur er logo.
If asked why I was stupid enough to try it a second time I'll say I wasn't 100% sure it was absolutely gltools as the culprit.
Anyways this is the first device I have had with so much support with custom recoveries. Roms and kernels and even access to stock rom files. Would love to successfully apply some good stable/safe/and better running mods than the stock stuff though since I am convinced this hardware should be running better than it currently is!! But not trying anything for a while though till I've read as much as I can at least and have at least a few options for recovery should somehring go wrong.

100%, Sprint doesn't lock bootloaders (though Samsung has started to). You may have to turn off the an option in Settings/Security, I think it's called Write Protection, it won't let you Odin anything if it is on.
I have a sprint sph-720T
I installed TWRP using ODIN
then reboot in recovery, put OCTOS-M on to internal memory and wipe the cache davik
install the OCTOS-M from zip file then install GAPPS from zip.
BOOOM! you have a rooted android 6.0.1 ! longer battery life.
EDIT: if you need direct links to the files, just ask.

I just downloaded Wicked 10.9 but am not sure I have all the files needed. In the first page it mentions to load the 720t conversion file and a kernal file.
Later I saw that the kernal file was include. I don't know if I should flash one, two or three files.

The 5x is decently fast for a budget phone but it doesn't hurt to try out these tips to keep it running as fast as possible.
Disable Animations
I would start by disabling the animations. I've noticed that when my 5x does freeze up, many times it's in the middle of an animation. Go into settings > about phone > tap on build number until you're a developer
Go to developer options > disable window animations, transition animations and animator duration scale
Use the Floating Dock
Activate the floating dock and use the built in app killer. Smash that button every once in a while after you've been using several apps.
Ditch the Bloatware
If you haven't already, get rid of the bloatware. There's not a ton of it but those amazon apps always find a way to pop up in the background.
If you have other tips leave them in a comment below.

Ditch EMUI and install a custom ROM, like CM13
Hint: flash a CM-based ROM and enjoy the great device you bought
Yup, I second that. I went for CM13, which turn this into a capable phone. Everything works in CM13 (including FP), and it is quick enough.
I simply got infuriated with the lags of EMUI, I even went back to my HTC One M7 (launched in 2013), and that was smoother than EMUI (both LP and MM).
Flash CM-based. Fixed!

What's its differences with normal CM? I thought CM was fast enough... Then again it'd be my first time flashing CM. I have a L-24 that's on EMUI 3.1 and I don't get how to upgrade to 4.0 without bricking my phone at all, so I might as well flash a new OS instead I guess

And you can customize it sooo much. It's the best ROM I've tried for our nifty little device, followed closely by SlimRom.

You'll need to upgrade to EMUI 4.0 if you want FP scanner support. It's really not that difficult. If you want to install a CM-based ROM later you'll need to follow a few steps, like unlocking your bootloader and installing a custom recovery (TWRP). This post is really helpful for that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68273811&postcount=2.
The difference between RR and normal CM are not that many, but they are noticeable. RR, like many other ROMs, are based on CM13, but their devs have added or removed some features. RR, for instance, has many UI customization options, and it comes with Kernel Adiutor pre-installed so that you can better manipulate how your device works. These are not all of the features, obviously. Try some ROMs yourself and you'll be able to decide which one suits your needs best. I've read some great things about Exodus, Vanir, and ZephyrOS.

Wait - I've already unlocked my bootloader and flashed TWRP, I have a rooted phone and all. I believed I could jump straight from EMUI 3.1 to CM13, why should I go for EMUI 4.0?
In another, related question; my phone's Updater app is telling me there's an OTA update for my 5X (which I presume to be MM, or 4.0). I'd install it straight away, but I've heard on some places that you can't do an update like this if you have TWRP and/or root on your phone. Is this true? What can/should I do to update? Thanks in advance, I was gonna make a separate post but an answer here would be much appreciated!

You would miss the firmware update that fixes the GPS problems for EMUI 4.0 (a 700kb update that takes it to Custom version of CUSTC567D003). If you go straight from EMUI 3.1 to CM13 you will have lousy GPS fix and stability.
You cannot upgrade to EMUI 4 through TWRP. You need to go stock using these instructions.
If you read that thread you will see that somebody made a flashable zip that applies the GPS fix on CM13. I do not know where to find that though.
cheers

Moreover, you won't be able to even flash CM13. Go to the official CM thread for more details. The installation checks your phone's TZ version, which gets updated with the EMUI 4.0 upgrade.

So, following those instructions, I download the NANDroid backup, put it in my Backups folder of TWRP, and then wipe & restore that backup? I thought TWRP backups were a part of /data, since they're stored in the internal memory... Wouldn't a /data wipe effectively delete this backup? Also, is it a 3.1 or 4.0 backup? How'd I go to 4.0 if it's a 3.1 backup? Sorry, I'm really unexperienced & confused

you do a factory reset. It does not erase the TWRP backups on your sdcard. The restore will remove TWRP and you get stock recovery. You will have to flash TWRP via adb once you are done with stock updates. The backup lists L24C567B331 and hence it is EMUI 4. Before you do anything make sure you create a nandroid backup of your current system onto the SDCard just in case something goes wrong. That will also create the folder (including SN of your phone) structure in which you put the nandroid back of b331 mentioned above.

By sdcard do you mean a literal, external SD card? Or the internal storage, where the TWRP is (at least for my phone) located? I don't have an external SD card, will the /data wipe affect the TWRP folder that's in my internal storage? The rest of the steps I think I understand - restore the backup, do the OTA upgrade. Question: must I flash TWRP if I choose to stay on EMUI 4? It's obviously needed for changing to CM but now I'm unsure about doing it, after all...
Thanks for all the help so far, by the way!

Let's take this out of this thread (pm me) or ask your questions in the appropriate thread here. Bottomline: all the info is in that thread. You do not need to do a factory reset (recommended). Everything on the phone will however be wiped with the nandroid restore. You do need the SDCard (also according to the "to stock" guide). If you decide to stay on EMUI 4 you do not need TWRP. If you want CM13 then you do need it of course. Best to install TWRP either way since it allows you to do a nandroid backup of your "up to date" EMUI 4 installation.
