How to clean safely usb port and speaker holes ? - LG G6 Questions and Answers

So i have noticed that there is a lot of dust contained in my usb port and speaker holes..
So i wanted to ask you guys how do you clean it or think whats the safest and best way to do that ? I watched some YT videos but they are like idk just not what i was searching for....

I had my daughter's iPhone cleaned a few times before finally upgrading her. They used an air can and also small electronic cleaning tools to get in there. Compressed air in a can for 3lectronics should keep those areas in good shape.

Compressed air is what I use as well. When I put my phone in my pocket, it's usually with the port and speakers facing up, so it can get pretty dirty in there

Yup i heared for compressed air in a can.. I haven't explore it i can get that on ebay, amazon, ali, etc. ?
I used to you know put a paper in like pyramid shape and just slowly cleaned it that way... And my friend has compressed air but thats for his job like cars and **** and i didn't use his because i know that after compressed air moisture is left after few min...

Use a soft bristle toothbrush. Works quite well since most stuff isn't stuck.

For the charging port I've used the pointy end of a small zip tie to get out whatever won't come out with canned air.
I almost said "compressed air" there but we have to remember don't use an air compressor for stuff like this (I use mine to clean off the lawnmower though!).

Cleaning the speaker grill....

Ok I'm sure you all like to keep your HD2's looking as clean and shiny as i do, however I've noticed a bit of fluff and dust collecting in the earpiece speaker grill. I was just womdering if anyone had found a quick and simple way of cleaning it? I've tried cotton buds, sellotape and air dusters but it wont shift!
Before you suggest it I've already considered shrinking myself down to microscopic size (like that 80's movie with Dennis Quaid) and removing it by hand but thats not very practical.
Cheers.
150 psi out of my air compressor works well
Il remember that next time Im putting some air in my tyres. Cheers.
I use one of the girlfriends unused blusher brushes, and I keep it in the case all the time. A thick brush works best, you can grip the tip and give the grill a brisk brush.
Try one of those little usb vaccum cleaners. They're only a few bucks on ebay and should do the trick.
Yes, very annoying with all the crap that collects in the ear piece speaker grill...
Thanks guys...... gonna go and raid the missus' make up bag for a little brush.....
USB vacuum cleaners......lol thats a new one....
usb vacuum cleaners are just a geek collectable (I would know, I have one sitting on my desk anc passively collecting dust since at least 3 years ago as it is useless for any other use )... anyway, @you who suggested pressurized airflow... don't you worry that it will somehow damage the speaker membrane?
I'd rather go for a very delicate brush

A 'blowjob' will work for me as well
Im using small paiting brush
Also while I think of it, I use one of those super-duper 'Xlerator' hand dryers at work on occasion to blow some of the dirt out of it.
Dont use a Dyson vaccum cleaner tho I sucked 4 keys off my laptop and what a pain replacing those
Thanks again folks, some strange and ingenious solutions indeed. The small brush is doing the trick but theres still some crap actually lodged in the grill I can't shift. Oh well..... at least I haven't smashed the screen or anything serious ....
This cyber clean gel works well for picking dust out of the ear slot and the USB socket.

I wouldn't use that!
I did this once at work on an old phone, and as you know, water likes to form in the pipes when it's not been used in a while in compressors, also you get tiny bits of dirt in the pipes which you're blasting out and through the grill like a soft sand blaster!
Anyway, didn't even notice the small amount of water blasting out until the phone stopped working and i took it apart again to see the whole board was rusty.
Wondering if it was the air line that did it I fired it at a wall for about 30 seconds and saw it forming on the wall and running down.
A quick empty of the compressors drain valve did the trick to stop the water, but I still wouldn't trust it now.
I use a sort bristled (unused) tooth brush on my HD2 now.
Try good old blu-tack.
That or use something like a pin to dislodge the bits then the brush to clear them.
A soft tooth brush may work.

[Q] How to clean the insides of the shoulder buttons?

As topic. Right now the space for depression of the buttons is full of dust. :/
I haven't tried cotton buds but they seem quite big for the space between the shoulder button and the case.
Try the edge of a paper towel and some rubbing alcohol on it (pull battery first to be safe) and run it around the buttons. Just my .02 for an idea.

Have you tried a can of air spray?
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
I'll try the towel!
Oops, there's such a thing as air spray? ><
maybe he's talking about compressed air..
yeah, compressed air will probably do most of the work, it's also used to clean dust from laptops..
You can buy a can with a mix of compressed air and vapour. It's used for cleaning computer equipment but will work just as well on your phone

[Q] Cleaning Tips for Nexus 4 users

Hey guys,
So I've had the Nexus 4 for around two weeks now and it's too well designed of a device for me to resort to using screen protectors although I will be getting a thin case soon since it is quite slippery. I was just wondering what some of you do in order to maintain the condition of the device. I've simply been using a dry microfiber cloth - usually used on my eyeglasses - and rubbing gently until all the smudges are gone. This keeps it quite clean for 3-4 days but I don't know if that period will shorten with prolonged use. Any and all tips are appreciated, thanks in advance!
I just usually rub it on my shirt. Takes the smudges off in one wipe
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
After I wash/dry my hands I use the edge of my palm, the coating is great so I don't even have to do that that often.
Sounds like a pack of microfiber cloths should do just fine for the future then! Thanks guys, still welcoming other suggestions
I keep a pack of Wireless Wipes nearby. Great product I've been using for years. http://www.wirelesswipes.com

american apparel t-shirts work surprisingly well. it makes the phone extra shiny!
well it works just like a microfiber cloth.
any sunglasses pouch works well too!
I use optical wipes on my phones, gets rid of any finger grease and doesn't leave streaks.
I use the cloth that came with the Nillkin case. Works way better than a microfiber one that came with my girls mini laptop.. :/

Not fair
He guys im new and i had a question about keeping my nexus 4 clean. So when i recieved my nexus 4 i had it naked without a screen protector or case, then i decided to buy a full body xtremeguard screen protector, which was 6 dollars. They arrived and i tried putting them on the next day. They were wet installation which i didnt really like. I had to use a bowl of handsoap and water. So I installed them and tried to accelerate the drying process a little by using a blow dryer, but guess what, it really made the beautiful screen look all ugly and disoriented so i took them off and decided to keep it the way. and applied a little more water to the glass to get all the soapy residue off and dried it off a little more. The next day I noticed that when i held it in sunlight I noticed this white stuff inside the crevices in between the glass and the edges of the phone. SO whats bothering me is that i think its dried soap in there and blow drying it only made it worse. But wheat really gets me ticked off is that i wanted to keep my phone perfect and clean but that stuff is still in there and i dont know how to get it out. Its just killing me. Ive tried water, q tips, even scraping it out with printer paper but no luck. Can anyone give me ideas or help plz?? thx. IM sorry if this a very long post
Should have left the XtremeGuard on there, it takes a few days for them to dry properly and until they do, they look like a disaster.
As for the left overs, maybe a fingernail will be able to scrape it out?

Fingernail is thicker than paper. If he can't get it out with paper....Try using a needle I guess?
Oh nope I already tried that when my nails were longer and now there even more useless ha. Its too deep in there. But I guess I'll keep searching though. Any type of liquid I could use to dissolve it or something?

Not related to the above posts as such but more the actual thread title, a pair of jeans works very well. Wiping the phone on my knees while wearing jeans gets rid of everything, and no smears either. Looks like new, much better than T-Shirts.
anyone have advice on how to clean the ear piece grill? putting my nexus 4 in my jeans and pockets add lint to the inside of the grill. it annoys me. any advice on how to get it super clean and all black again?

Compressed air, but be careful not to blow it to closely.
As far as cleaning the screen itself, I use monster LCD/plasma TV cleaner I got at best buy. Its a little pricy but I've had it for 3 years and works wonders on all my phones, even on screen protectors.
I do not have any advice as far as what to do what the residue in the screen your talking about.
I have a screen protector on the screen and have been thinking about removing it lately. I had a convo with my neighbor who never uses a protector on his phones. He never has gotten a huge scratch on gorilla glass, and to be honest I rarely ever change my protector and prob sacrifice more clear screen using one vs not...

Get yourself a small camera lens puffer (like a rocket). Great for getting dust and lint out of nooks and crannys, but not enough force to damage anything nor any chemical agents (like in canned air).
my ear piece and mic is a bit dirty, I don't think air will get it out. can you use alcohol or something similar??

How to smash microphone..?

This may sound like a silly request, but please bare with me...
I have an HTC Hero... and on its motherboard, the microphone is firmly soldered, and thus, the only way to remove it would be to apply heating, and do all kinds of delicate stuff, which I guess I could pay someone to do, but if it messes up, then the entire motherboard is toast...
Here is a thread about removing the soldering of a mic.
Anyway.... the point is... I guess I could attempt to pay someone to do the de-soldering, but it seems very delicate, and I can easily imagine it going wrong..
And so... the question is.. is there any way that I can, basically, SMASH the microphone, so that it is no longer functional..? I know it seems like a silly idea, but I'm really looking to break this thing... I want to use an external microphone only, and not the internal one, so I want to make sure it isn't functional.
Here are some pictures of the microphone, if it helps....

As you can see, it's a rounedd square metal thing, with a hole in the middle, leading to more metal... I'm just looking to make it non-functional, by physically breaking it....
OK. Thanks
Um.
I think that de-soldering it would be less destructive and less likely to break other things than trying to smash it.
Pennycake is right, get a desoldering braid or some other solder puller, less chance you'll accidentally run something else while trying to destroy the microphone.

Put a sharp thing. In the mic.

Doh, was supposed to click Reply, not Thanks. ;D
Sharp thing + little hammer sounds to be most interesting non-soldering solution. But I'd still consider it as more dangerous than just using hot-air station.
I guess someone should be asking exactly why you'd want to do this?
Insert a sharp thing in the mic, like a compass point or needle.
EDIT : Just saw the above answer...sorry.
That's easy.... u go boom boom boom bababoom!
Hot air station is safer.. XD
All the best...

Kill it with fire and ice!
Sharp things will damage the diaphragm, but they might not prevent it from picking up sound completely, if it's not bent just so.
I would recommend peeling any protective mesh off the top, and then filling it up completely with superglue. If you can find a tube of superglue with a needle point, you'll be able to fill it from the inside up. Superglue has very low surface tension and will fill the space quite nicely - a thicker glue like hot glue might blob over the hole but not fill the void.
Alternatively, taking a pair of side cutters/wire cutters and carefully cutting up the can will do the job too. Don't pull on the legs too hard and your board should be fine.
If you break it physically, wouldn't the phone still "think" it's there? I would imagine smashing it on the software side would better, but I could be way off
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I think a hot air gun could do it since it will only blow a little hot air on its point.
I've got a idea..
........
launch under the train :cyclops:
you should try desoldering it as smashing it will destroy your motherboard
There is probably a way to corrupt the way the kernel talks to the mic

Thoughts on cleaning speaker grills

I'm really digging this phone so far, but the one thing that has me concerned is how much of a lint magnet the speaker grills appear to be. Putting the phone in and out of my pocket has already begun to get very small pieces of lint and dust into the speaker grill, and my OCD is freaking out. I've been trying to think of a viable way to clean them and was wondering if anyone had any ideas or past experience with previous versions of the Moto X or Nexus 6.
Obviously air is an option and will help to some degree, but that doesn't seem like it will work all that well because of how confined a space it is. I was also thinking that maybe a small paintbrush could work, or maybe even a pipe cleaner. I haven't tried any of those yet, but will and will report back.
Bothers me too. We have canned air at work and it works well enough. I wish there was an easy convenient way.
While I've never personally tried it, I've heard of people using silly putty. Lightly press/mold it on the speaker grill and, in theory, it gets all the lint/dirt stuck on it.
Of course if things go wrong you run the risk of getting silly putty stuck in the grills LOL

Designed to clean dust etc. from keyboards, but works great on phones etc

One thing I'd avoid is using a safety pin or something small and hard(haha) to stick in there and dig it out. Some guy on Reddit did that and the speaker cover fell off.
a small paint brush does the trick
Or a toothbrush
