Keeping it simple:
2 phones identical specs except for screen/overall size.
Which would you prefer 4.7" or 5"?
Definitely prefer 4.7 which is one of my reasons for choosing this over what the samsung galaxy 4 is rumoured to be.
4.7 just fits better in my hand.

thank you for starting such a great thread.
im sure that htc will look at this forum and if more people vote for 5" than 4.7", they will recall all the HTC Ones and replace them with a 5" version.
5 is too big, I think.
From my Evo LTE, yup.
5" is the perfect size IMO. The 5.5" N2 that I have is just too big, it's very difficult to try and use one handed. I used the DNA for a week and it was the best combination of screen size and usability.

5 is a too big device for my trousers....
After playing with the one x extensively and with the DNA i would say... I do Like a 5 inch Screen but not better... and I but i would also PREFER having the Stereo Speaker more than having a 5 inch screen so easy choice 4.7 inch all the way

Don't wear skinny jeans then!
Why doesn't the poll offer an option for screen sizes above 5"? I'm thinking somewhere around 6.5" would be good; maybe a little more.
My personal preference it's that 5" is just too big, and opens the door to too many old jokes. "Is that a phone in your pocket......?"

Let's go higher and have it up to 8 inch. The Galaxy Note 8.0 can be used as a phone.
i like the scores so far
at 5" we crossing the phablet threshold and loosing the last bit of single hand operation

It depends how big your hands are. For me, on a 4.8 inch SGS3 I can easily reach all 4 corners and beyond with one hand. I'm quite confident that I'll be able to use a 5 inch phone with one hand too.
But for those with smaller hands I can see why you would prefer a smaller screen.

Yeah, it doesn't have a full HD display, though. No tablet in the 7-8" range that I'm aware of has - a source of considerable frustration for me, I can assure you.
Its better for the sharpness to have 4,7 ... i mean it is 1,5 times as sharp as an iphone thats sick!
5'' would drop the ppi!

Some would argue that we are in an area of diminishing returns when it comes to ppi increase.
For instance would we really notice the ppi increase from the One X to the One in day to day use?
Our eyes have a threshold and in the last year or so we have reached it. 1080p on a 4.7 inch screen really is over kill, BUT it was also necessary as Joe Public thinks bigger is better. Most people would take a 1080 flagship over a 720 so it wasn't an option for HTC.
Hey there chaps. I've done a little review after using the phone for almost a full year now and wanted to share it. Love the phone, it's been a breath of fresh air owning it this year. Let's hope the M8 carries on the awesomeness!

Hey thanks. Yeh it's been a brilliant phone. I really hope the new one is good but atm it looks like HTC have done a bit of a Samsung and just done a (questionably) mildly better new device. Sad about the 5" screen though. Lower resolution then the M7 is the rumours are true.

How could it be a lower resolution?
Still 1080p.... A lower ppi however, though that won't be noticeable

1080p on a 5" screen = lower ppi which is lower level of resolution IMO. Less is less. And though it is all 'apparently' above what the human eye can tell the difference between, I don't know why HTC have chosen what in my eyes is a downgrade with the new device. Unless it ends up being just rumours after all.

Dont think the new one will do that well compared to other devices it's going to have to offer something really unique and iam not really felling it with pictures and rumours. But iam sure it will be a great device and a good upgrade but not sure about it being a huge hit hope iam wrong though.

By writing this, it is apparent you don't know what resolution is.
Ppi and resolution are not the same thing...
It is the same resolution, not lower level of resolution.
Electrical engineer here btw
Also it is such a minute difference that it will not be noticeable.
Higher at 5 inches (4K for example) is just overkill
Ok guys ok, let's not let this thread become a pissing contest please, it started out as a positive thread and quickly escalated to "who knows more", which isn't productive and to be honest kinda immature for no real reason...
The resolutions are the same, screen is slightly bigger in New one which will lower the ppi a tiny bit which will probably be undetectable to the naked eye in the real world...only difference if there is any, will be the vividness of the colors since the pixels will be ever so slightly further apart...

Those who had HoX like I did know how superb screen it had and it was only 318ppi +720p , I barely saw the difference on m7 with FHD +468PPI , why worry anyway ...amoled screens are pentile and lower resolution then ours and still are crisp almost as ours. Exactly....
I think 1080p is the upper limit on a phone. The bump to 2k or 4K is just going to cause unnecessary battery drain and is more of a "whose e peen is bigger" thing than a useful addition.
More battery drain, more taxing on the processor...
I could see on a tablet, but not on a phone 6 inches or smaller.
I still love my One. Nothing has yet to match it in terms of build quality and design. It's no wonder it won the Smartphone of the year award at MWC:
http://www.globalmobileawards.com/winners-2014/#cat_id22
and I agree with your all points especially the point you made regarding the Highlights Themes being removed :crying:. I have even contemplated reverting back to Sense 5.0 to get them back.
A year on, this phone is still blazing. Although...I made a switch to GPE (sinless) which honestly flies faster and has better battery. I don't really miss Zoe or any of the sense apps. The hardware is enough for me to love HTC.

I wasn't intending on this becoming a pis#ing match and I did state that it was only my opinion. I know the technical description of resolution however to me it includes the clarity of an image and that is down to the PPI. Of course a 5" and a 50" screen can have the same resolution and you would chose which ever one suited your needs the best but the 5" display will always show the image better than the 50".
If you look at the defenition of resolution you'll find that is actually means "the degree of detail visible in a photographic or television image" this is what equates to something being "a high-resolution monitor". Hence I have formed my opinion based on this.
Electrical Mechanical Design Engineer here btw
And, still to me there's no need for HTC to have upped the screen size to 5". Nothing wrong with the 4.7" on the One. It is an epic phone and the high PPI was a good selling point. I know the're probably just trying to compete with the S5 etc but to me the screen size should have been left alone.
Let's not forget that even 1080P is an overkill on our little 4.7 inch screens, my tv is 46 inches big with the same resolution as my phone! This is nuts! Why don't they take it down to 720P and gain a massive battery life boost

These leaks definitely seem to be getting louder. I too am really bummed about the screen. What will be a good upgrade path for the current Moto X users who want the same form factor in a year or two? The market definitely doesn't seem to want Moto X-sized phones... Which is a real shame.

i really hope that if this turns out to be true, one of the other companies will step in and come up with a great 4.7" device.
Yeah to me the 4.7-inch screen size is perfect. 5.2-inch is so weird....just a little too big for those that want a smaller phone, just a little too small for those that want a bigger screened phone. Otherwise the specs are pretty nice. If they can keep the price low enough though they will have a solid phone on their hands.
Oh for God's sake 5.2", really? Just have to go with the nonsense trend Moto? I hope the phone will not be bigger by more than 5-6% than the current one, but as I see it's not gonna happen!

The market does want Moto X sized phones, but manufacturers don't. Bigger phones are cheaper to make more powerful, so the flagship phones will always be the biggest. The market wasn't given a choice, if you wanted a flagship you had to buy the biggest phone.

I am hoping all these leaks are not of Moto X+1 but of some other phone (eg. Droid..) and Motorola is purposely allow these leaks to keep the all these parapazzi away from the ACTUAL Moto X+1. It would be so awesome
Would be amazing to see a 4.7" screen at 1080p. Would be the first of its kind I believe. I don't recall any phone offering 1080p resolution below a 5" screen phone.

I just don't get the trend of having a 5" phone. Its not natural to hold in your hand. I'm just happy the moto x is such a great phone, I just don't feel the need to upgrade.
I'm not too concerned. They mentioned smaller bezels and there is more than enough bezel at the top of the x to keep a similar size and enlarge the screen. I'm more interested to see what else they improve and if they release it for a price that reflects it's specs or price it based on its competition with better specs again
Bring on the X+1, I recently picked up a Moto G to hold me over until the X+1 gets here. I suppose if the 5.2" is too crazy-big, I'll just stick with the G for a while longer.
+ 1000000.
I was really hoping they would stick with the screen size less than 5 in.
Guess i'll stick with my current moto x for now..

Not really. If you want to keep the same proportions, the screen can't be enlarged vertically without making the screen wider.
I look at my Nexus 7 2012 and then look at my Moto X.. What a difference.
The colors are so much more vivid on my X. It amazes me every time.. Makes working on my tablet "not fun" to see those drab colors, especially, when I know I have another device that has much better colors..
I am excited to see what the new screens look like. I don't think that .3 is going to make that much of a difference with most people.
Title says everything
Yawn! All the specs the "flagship killer" should have had to begin with. I have been a OPO customer since the early waitlist for the one. With each new phone I am increasingly underwhelmed. My recent escapades with support regarding a $12 screen protector have sent me over the edge. My fifth OPO will likely be my last.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I posted the same at the OP forums and here's my view on this
I got mine a week back, If this comes on 14, I will ask them for sending me a new phone and I'd pay the extra if it does cover within the 15 day return, cannot keep the old phone where the development will shift to the 3T and the 3 will be lost in dust sooner than expected. If they won't I guess I'd have to bear with and definitely I wouldn't buy any HW from OP next time.
On the side note, I already have this loose clicky rocker and the antenna band on the bottom has a slight imperfection like a speck has stuck beneath (not visible with photos, but can be felt with finger and noticed with eye under light and close up, I discarded the Idea of RMA because of the slowest snail process which is nuts) that It was out of the box and the custom ROMs community is a HELL, The Encryption / Bootloops / Softbrick and needing to use the Qualcomm download mode & Flashing of Zips for the stock and all is too messy why not use a fastboot image style of flashing ? And 3.5.5CB using the community to test out the software but no rollout, free bug testing yeah smart move but you are not M$ to implement such type of strategies, even so M$ is a failure nice inspiration there.
Refining them and optimizing would be ideal than to announce a new hardware.
What a stupid corp, for the slight bump from 821 and the new IMX sensor & perhaps some extra juice more all that for an extra premium and again release the damn OP4 to rekt them ? I see Sony type marketing style here...
Joke of the decade Carl, History repeats, Claps !!

The thing is I love the Hardware - Screen is nice, Build is quite sleek and robust, Bezels are perfect, Notification light and the sensor hub positioning and black bezel just blends into them, The NAND is fast, The Speakers powered with NXP amps is fantastic & battery is good with CM13Sultan - It's a beast, The failure of recognizing this by the company who made it possible is such irony and a sad twist...Hope it's a tablet.

i would prefer a bigger version like a 6.98 inch (not 7 to categorize as a phone) with the screen stretched out so much a 7 inch version should still be compact-recall using the Sharp SH-06F briefly 2 years back-that like an 81-83% screen to body ratio and it felt very small and compact. This one would be even better at that screen size.

Definitely! I'm not sure how I am going to like going from my 7 inch Mediapad X2 to a 6.4 inch screen. 7 inch is the sweet spot for me.
It's not a rumour, it's real. Definitely coming. This is the mass production version I hinted at in another post ... surprised it leaked so soon, so maybe its release is imminent and they intend to produce both concurrently rather than discontinue the Mix in favour of it.
I haven't heard anything about nor do the leaks say anything of the camera ... really hope it's a decent Sony or Samsung unit, not the POS Omnivision in the Mix.

You can have a phone > 7 inches, and you can have tablets < 7 inches.
I think, however, phones are "long enough". There seems to be an accepted max length for phones.
It's no surprise that the iphone + phones, the mi mix, and all the galaxy notes are roughly the same length.
If the phone was any longer, then it wouldn't be (front) pocketable anymore, and that's a major issue.
The mi mix was the first phone to actually go -wider- than normal, which is nice.

The reason I mentioned 6.98 is that is the diagonal screen size that is the threshold between a tablet and a phone per the carriers etc..basically 7 becomes a tablet in the eyes of the carriers...yes it could easily be 7.7 or 7.5 or 6.8

Not gonna argue with you. But please check your grammar/spelling first before you post.
It is big indeed. I bought it for other reasons. Had I known a 5.5 inch version is coming out, I wouldn't have bought it.
5.5" would be perfect if it shared the camera module of Mi5s / Pixel, the IMX386.
Also, 5.5" should be readily available without huge mark ups, unlike the Mix. Sharp already has a couple of 5.5" panels suitable for edgeless devices in mass production. The 6.4" is only sample currently.

guys guys...fighting over a phone that most (maybe even you do not have) or that is not even out yet!...
not worth it...
abrasive language or requesting spell checks (lol)
now if someone wants to sell the 6.4 because the 5.5 looks better...I'm all ears!

I am actually contemplating if I should sell it as I'm seriously concerned about its larger-than-normal size (currently own the HTC 10 and love it). were you serious about buying it though? Let me know if you are interested.
jim..I sent you a pm

If you put it up for sale on Swappa,I'd be interested in buying it.
Please keep us posted/send a PM this way (subscribed to this thread) if you do indeed sell it. :good:
If you're used to phones like any of the Samsung Note series than the 6.4 MI MIX is very similar.. Only very slightly larger in hand. I think it it's great that they are bringing out a 5.5 version as well. This way there it's something for those of us who like larger phones and those who prefer something smaller.
Also... From what I gather it seems the 5.5 will have a smaller capacity than it's larger brother and that may be of importance to some as well.
I have the 6.4 MI MIX with 6GB/256GB... I love it... Its very quick... The screen is simply amazing... And the size with its screen to body ratio is just perfect to me..

THX.
I ordered one from an e-Bayer soon after that post, ETA 11 /25/16-12/2/16.
Should this sale fall apart/never materialize, I'll contact you via Swappa, if it's still available.
Conversely, I'll post with a mention to you if the one I ordered arrives.
@trey.mcd
Just got an update on the tracking, mine is on its way.
I'm certain you'll be getting some offers for yours soon, good luck. :good:
