Regarding the stock zui 3.1 flashable via twrp, is there any special method or direction we need to keep in mind before flashing the rom, or is it as simple as flashing other custom roms. Thanks

Well, this one is a modified version of Stock Recovery Flash able! As that had radio images ( which weren't updated as i was told by testers ) flashing those via Stock was a way to update but i modified the zip and now you can flash it via TWRP - simply i removed code for radio images to be flashed
You have to do a clean wipe and then flash, if this shows resources busy or any error, do a reboot to recovery again and flash.
I have enabled the default language to English so no issues in that.
Also, It has Google Core apps and frameworks - keep Google Play Store in the SD card and install the Apk to get Google Apps or download it from Default App Store.

However, in my guide there is also another TWRP made for this device on a russian forum i have mentioned. It can backup EFS and more if I remember correctly!

i tried those ROM for my 3GB Variant A6020a46 , FHD screen, Snapdragon 616 and it will not working with my device. so be careful and make a twrp backup .

The K5(Plus) ROMS are all CyanogenMod based, not AOSP. I'd like an AOSP based ROM, with OMS support.

Is your phone a K5 or a K5 Plus?
For the specs, looks like a K5 (non plus).
These ROMs are designed for the Vibe K5 (or K5 Plus) which has a faster processor and a Full HD screen. I don't know if they'll work on your device.

Most of these ROMs work on your device. But, please, read and search in the threads. Some of them are optimized for Snapdragon 616 variant. ROMs developed by Shreps and Scritch, tho, are optimized for Snapdragon 415 variant.

But the CPU is Octa Core MAX 1.8GHz
So is it HYDROGEN or HELIUM?
Is there some simple app I could run to check?

You are correct - My device is "helium" - But it is not 4Gb RAM - Only 3Gb ...
It is not clear in top of the index what should 3Gb/64Gb & 4Gb/128Gb be...

I'm also a bit confused I'm considering buying a Mi Max, and according to the manufacturer, there are only 2 versions, 3GB/32GB Hexacore
4GB/128GB Octacore

After researching: Mi Max has 4 versions:
- 2GB 16GB & 3GB 32GB are using Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 MSM8956 Hexa-Core so they are "hydrogen"
- 3GB 64GB & 4GB 128GB are using Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 MSM8976 Octa-Core so they are "helium"
