Having trouble with Heimdall - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings!
I am trying to revert my Samsung Galaxy S5 back to Lollipop from Marshmallow. I don't have a PC but a Macbook Pro so I can't use ODIN. Instead I have downloaded Heimdall. I have downloaded several different versions of the Lollipop stock ROM but the Heimdall GUI is not recognizing them.
I *really* need to revert this back to Lollipop so I can use towelroot to get rid of all the crap Verizon bloatware that is eating my memory and making my phone unusable.
Any help would be so so so appreciated, thank you!

Hi,
It is good that you are asking for help but first of all in order to get helped you should provide basic info as:
1. Your phone model (label inside the phone)
2. Current firmware (bootloader, PDA, CSC etc)
It seems you have Verizon version of s5. In this case there is dedicated Verizon S5 Forum for your specific phone where potentially you can get more reliable help as xda members there posses these phone:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/help
Good luck!

Model is g900V(B)
How do I discover the firmware? I now it currently has Marshmallow as the OS...

I have no idea what any of that means but I hope it helps!
It seems the issue is Heimdall isn't recognizing the stock rom package when I click the button that is supposed to load it from the relevant folder...

Ok, so...now what do I do? The GUI in Heimdall isn't recognizing the stock rom files in order to load them into the program...
It has been entirely frustrating...I have done research on my own finding all of the step by steps...but at every step there seems to be some issue or roadblock...why can't it just be straightforward, arg!

Hi again,
I never used Heimdall for my phone (always odin) nor have your phone model (my is g900f) so can't reproduce your problem. Maybe the others here can?
If not do as I recommended to you in my previous post -> ask this question on the s5 Verizon dedicated forum.
Edit: ok I see that you already posted there and forum moderator closed your thread. Do as he recommended to move this thread to Verizon s5 forum.

How do I move the whole thread to a new forum? I tried to start a new one as requested and it got locked.

[Q] PLEASE HELP ME! Galaxy Y Reboot Problem - Need help installing 2.3.6 firmware!

Hello all,
I've had my mobile device for seven months and it has worked great.
Recently (4 days ago) it started experiencing problems.
After every phone call that is terminated (end call button depressed) the mobile device automatically restarts itself.
I have done countless hours of research online and see that is a fairly frequent problem with the mobile device.
One article I read from a website depicted the source of the problem to be an internal memory inefficiency by the mobile device.
With that being said, I thought I would give Samsung a call to see if they could help me install a new software version on the device.
I spent two days calling Samsung in all their offices around the world. In the United States, in India, in China, in Jordan.
All the places that I called gave me the run around because I am using an international phone, and basically did not offer any assistance.
My last resort is XDA developers, - therefore, I do apologize if this thread is covered in another post. I did try to search, yet I could not find what I was looking for.
Basically what I am trying to do is download odin3 v. 1.84 or 1.85 and the appropriate download package to use to install 2.3.6 onto the phone.
I believe DDLC2 Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread is the firmware version that I need.
I read online that this update or change from 2.3.5 to 2.3.6 will solve my rebooting problem. Is this correct?
With that being said, 99% of the download links that I have found on google while searching for odin as well as the firmware package are invalid, the links are broken/removed/ or do not work.
The other 1% of the download links that are available online are full of malware and spyware, instead of the appropriate files.
I am kindly asking that someone provide me with the correct Odin link to download, as well as the appropriate firmware files needed to upload to Odin to be able to install 2.3.6 on my mobile device.
Does the mobile device need to be rooted to install 2.3.6 onto it via Odin?
My Galaxy Y S5360L is currently not rooted.
Please take pity on me, I have been trying to fix my mobile device for a few days now non-stop. I have been up for over 19 hours a day searching for a solution.
I really like this mobile device, and I do not wish to throw it away because of this problem.
Here are some instructions I found that tell what to do after Odin and Firmware files are downloaded. Are these correct?
First thing you need to do is go down to Settings then Applications then Development and Make sure you have enabled USB Debugging.
Before starting the process make sure you have a good 70-80% charge remaining on your device.
After you make sure you have everything ready for the update download this file.
Extract the files in the zip file. Do not connect your device to the computer yet. Next you need to enter your phone in download mode.
For that first switch Off the phone and then Hold down the Volume Down OK and Power Button simultaneously.
Now run Odin from the extracted files and then connect your Galaxy Y to your computer.
Once you connect your device a section in the Odin Window should turn yellow.
After that click PDA in the Odin Window and select the .md5 file from the extracted files. Now just click Start.
Just wait for the process to finish and reboot. That's it
No root required and the tutorial i right and for odin search my post there is the nwest odin.worx 100%,the post is in general section.

As CALIBAN666 said, no rooting is required. Go to the development section, and you'll see a thread by Doky73 (it's stickied). You'll find your firmware files there, a link to Odin, as well as instructions on how to flash it.

Thank you very much for the response.
I see the thread by Doky73.
There are far too many packages available, I don't know which one to choose.
Does every package download include a copy of Odin inside it, or do I have to download Odin separately?
I read that we are supposed to use 1.84 and not 1.85 is that correct?
Could you please recommend a package for me to use, so that my rebooting problem will go away.

The packages are arranged according to the countries. See the firmware package under your country and download it. Yes, you'll have to download Odin seperately. It dosen't matter whether it's 1.84 or 1.85.

I live in the United States, in the commonwealth of Virginia near Washington DC.
I purchased the phone online when it first came out back in November of 2011.
Which package do you recommend that I use?
I don't see one listed for North American users.
Should I choose the European version?

I have downloaded Odin V. 1.84.
I tried downloaded a firmware package, put the phone in download mode, followed all the steps and Odin said PASS in the upper left corner with a Green Light.
I was very happy.
I let me phone reboot itself, I go into settings, and I see it is still running 2.3.5 ?
Besides that, I check the codes, and all of the firmware versions are the same as the originals that came with the mobile device.
Can someone please help me find a 2.3.6 package that I can install ?

Thread Moved to Q&A
I have found out an update to the problem I am having.
I successfully patched from 2.3.5 to 2.3.6 by using one of firmware packages.
However, if I reboot the phone, or turn it off, - when I turn it back on it will start experiencing problems.
Right now it is working 100%.
As soon as I reboot the phone though, the end call problem will reappear.
I am still using the phone after the initial boot, after the install of the new firmware.
Any ideas why the problem comes back after I restart the phone?
you have the three files flashed with odin, right?try to flash the totoro pitfile too,it in my odin zip includet, did you have data/factory+chache in normal recovery wiped, after odinflash?try these things too, maybe its helps.good luck buddy!!!

Root AT&T Galaxy S4 SGH-I337(Not SGH-I337M) and Android 4.3

Trying to root SGH-I337 (not SGH-I337M). I found a few different chainfire downloads, but non of them seem to match my model perfectly. I tried "SuperSU-JWR66N-S005-130625-1.41.zip" which I found on a YouTube video guide, but it had errors during update and failed. Fortunately, It did not brick my device.
On this site "autoroot dot chainfire dot eu/", I found this file "CF-Auto-Root-jfltecan-jfltevl-sghi337m.zip", but it says this is for model SGH-I337M. Which I think is a Canadian model (but not sure). I don't have a "M" on the end of my SGH-I337 model name.
Can someone please point me in the right direction...
Which file should I be using and where do I find it?
Check the stickies at the top of this forum. That's all I'm going to suggest.

It will work trust me. Mj6 was a leaked att version of 4.3 then the official was mj9 before they stopped it to fix bugs and brought out mk2. It will work follow that guide. Download the mf3 emergency files flash via odin sideload mf3-mj9 then mj9-mk2 and you'll be back. Follow the guide step by step or follow the updated one ted77usa rewrote.

I337 firmware I337UCUEMK2 root?
All,
I installed the Samsung Drivers and then completed this video: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2283918 which had me use the motochopper tool for the Galaxy SF. It looked like it completed successfully and rebooted my phone, but the device is still NOT rooted. It didn't work and I am not bricked either (whew!!)
hovax615,
I'm sure you realize the importance of me getting correct and not bricking my device. Please advise when you say "you'll be back", what exactly will I be back too? to my knowledge I'm already in the beginning and phone firmware has never been changed, because my phone is still not bricked and not rooted. I have never loaded MJ6 (whatever that is). My apologies for being a noob, just trying to understand and do this safely without bricking or messing something up.
It's late for me now, and I will read any replies and continue this journey in a couple of days, perhaps tomorrow.
I really appreciate your help. Please advise.
Thank you all

I337UCUEMK2 Root? (My device is NOT bricked)
This firmware and baseband terminology gets confusing because early when I tried kies, samsung kies calls it firmware (I337UCUEMK2), but my "about" settings on the phone call it baseband (I337UCUEMK2). So I guess the word Baseband and Firmware are interchangeable?
In any case, I'm getting lots of great help here and feel I'm getting close to the finish line. It would seem that I now have two options to try:
1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2473747 - sent by [email protected]
2) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758 - sent by both [email protected] and ted77usa
Does anyone one have a suggestion or preference on which of these two root methods is best (or to try first)?

Safe root method worked beautifully. Thanks you both. My phone is now rooted.
My next mission is to figure out how to flash it back to factory specs (unroot), for when the day comes that I want to sell it (which is a long ways off ) and so that I can be sure I didn't put any malware on it from all the other failed attempts I made. One of those attempts involved booting to safe mode and loading a zip file from sd card. Though it failed, that attempt went pretty far. It actually wiped my phone and rebooted it. It looked like it may have applied some changes though there was some errors during the process and it did not root my phone.
If anyone can point me in the right direction or provide the link to the factory rom and process for doing it. I'm all ears

sm 900 null imei
hello guys,
i have sm-n900 galaxy note 3, my problem is that i rooted the phone before 4-5 months, at that time it wasnt successful so i flashed stock firmware ( N900xxudna6_n900odddna3_inu ) it was all working well for 4 months, now last night , i wanted to root it again, so i tried by flashing ( cf-auto-root-ha3g-ha3gxx-smn900.tar.md5 ) but it got stuck on screen "firmware upgrade encountered and issue, plz select recovery in kies and try again". so i again flashed back ( N900xxudna6_n900odddna3_inu ) and my phone started up, but no i dont have any signal, it says null imei and unknown baseband, i donno what i m supposed to do, i dont know what efs is or anything, its so complicated and confusing, sm 1 plz help me in simple ways.
P.S : i know there are lots of threads regarding this, but i have very little knowledge about rooting and stuff so i cant understand those technical words, so plz help me,

Galaxy Note 3 first time rooter
Hi everyone, newcomer here. Thanks for providing this community to help people out and thanks to Chainfire for making CF-Auto-Root.
I have a Galaxy Note 3, and I've never rooted before because I really like Touchwiz and the useful features it provides. I've read the main post for CF-Auto-Root, so I understand this is supposed to be the easiest root method that's supposed to retain stock Touchwiz and nothing more.
Before I take the plunge, I just wanted to clarify my understanding to make sure I really do want to go ahead with rooting my Note.
1. When you say CF auto root is rooting my phone, does that mean it's just achieving a "state of being" with the phone, and not really installing or modifying anything else with Touchwiz (besides SuperSU)? As in, everything is the same as before, Touchwiz is the same as before, and the only thing different is that I've gained permission to access more things in the software?
2. My understanding is that I shouldn't lose any data, apps, home screen app layouts, etc?
3. Will I lose any functionality in Touchwiz? Like S-Pen features, Samsung apps, etc?
4. If I receive an update to 4.4.4 or 5.0, will I lose this cf-auto-root state?
Thanks everyone for helping out!

CF-Auto-Root flashes custom recovery, which installs the su binary and SuperSU application and then sets back the default stock recovery. Everything else remains unchanged, including TouchWiz.

You lose KNOX and all features related to it.

Most likely, though there is a chance, that su binary will not be removed, in that case you keep the root.
Hi, I have a Note 3 model number SM-N9005 which is factory unlocked with no carrier on 4.4.2 in the UK.
I'm trying to root using the CF auto root thread instructions here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2466423
I am unsure what file to download and was wondering if this one would work with my phone?
It is the second download option listed in the third post of the CF auto root thread.
SM-N9005 (International Qualcomm): CF-Auto-Root-hlte-hltexx-smn9005.zip
Thanks for any help.

Yes it is. That download is for Note 3 with Device Type = hlte and Product Name = hltexx.
Just to make sure, as the download is based on Device Type and Product Name, check these info for your device with this app: Phone INFO ★Samsung★ (in GENERAL INFO section).

Noob question
*edit* I didn't see the older question asking the same thing sorry you can ignore this
Hello everyone I am new to rooting phones and I was looking into CF-Auto Root since it is said to be beginner friendly. I was wondering if using this method would wipe my phone of everything I had on it or would it just give me root access while leaving everything else on the phone the same.

I know XDA is a reputable site, so I don't have to worry as much, but I know that theoretically speaking, downloading things outside of the official Android app store poses a risk for being malware or spyware.
So I'm only asking this in the spirit of just practicing utmost caution, how would I know that the CF-Auto-Root file, which can be found through the link below, is genuine and untampered with?

Thanks.
@sd_shadow
Odin hung up and closed on me, Now firmware is corrupt so I am having to do an emergency recovery any idea why that happened? Never had an issue with Odin before.

Samsung SM-900A 4.4.2 Still Unrootable?
Just checking. The last post I can find says that this model/version is un-rootable. Just looking for a confirmation.
Thanks!
n9005xxuenb1 What root package should i pick?
My CPU is a Snapdragon, but the suggested rom for the EU version is the package for the Qualcomm CPU.
Thank you.

On your website with all the downloads for the CF-auto-root there is not an option for SM-N900V (Verizon) phones. Is this one that has not been tested yet?

why i cant download from this site?

[Unmodified] Pre-rooted firmware for SM-G361F

Hi everyone,
Today I am posting this thread because of some idiots who are now sharing pre-rooted firmwares for SM-G361F that are full of bloats.
I am sick of that, this is why I upload the archive of the first pre-rooted firmware I got that was at least clean.
You can download it here: https://mega.nz/#!oqpRhZJZ!B18uTiB3TH-QfChoqjgWCNmaPjqInPZbFyI4u9-T8s4
Note: This firmware is ONLY for Samsung Galaxy Core Prime SM-G361F devices with AOG1 build.
Of course I don't own the firmware and I didn't root it, I just keep the right to upload it.

Nah, I'm just pulling your leg! I tested her out and she is perfectly functional. Much better than that, what was her name? Andro-Woman? Or was it Andro-Man?
She seems like a woman to me.
Much appreciated and thanks alot, Hank Cyclone, which is your new nickname.

Pre rooted
Hey,can you find SM-G361F pre rooted version for this device?
BaseBand G361FXXU1AQA1
Build number G361FXXU1AQD1
I can't find it anywhere
I love what you're doing. All other pre-rooted ROMS are full of trash. Could you make it for G361FXXU1APA3?
Hum... OK guys thanks for the love but I have to remember you something.
I am not a developer yet and truly not a ROM unbloater: I didn't "disinfect" the firmware, I just reuploaded it (well after a fast check, I found I've already prevented about that, just read the thread please...)
So no dudes I can't do that, sorry. I COULD eventually do that, removing bloats and extract system image to make a flashable shouldn't be as complicated, but I do not have time.
Sorry to disappoint you.
Hey Atronid, you rock! I have the AOL1 but intend to give it a try cause I already rooted it but it's full of bloast. Do you know if I can flash another pre-rooted firmware considering I did this already? could this be harmul? -brickful? )-

I don't think doing this will brick your device, but careful. Ensure the usal requirements are here (OEM unlock, USB debug just in case...) and you made a backup, also in case something goes wrong.
But if you're rooted you got plenty tools that can remove bloats from your device, but I hope you're not easily scared because once removed system may spam that the bloat you just uninstalled has stopped. You can get rid of that by just rebooting your phone.
So you don't need to reflash any firmware if you just want to clean your phone up.
Yes, you're right. The problem was that the apps I tried to remove other apps weren't the right ones, but now that's sorted thankfully On the other hand, as I couldn't find an Android 6 ROM for my phone (not even a sorry recovery.... ) in the end I set my mobile to install new apps on the sd card by default. Actually it works similarly to the app Link to SD, so a part of it is on the SD card and the rest (like the data it generates) in the device storage, despite all the tutorials sell this method as "Installation directly on your SD card". You need a computer and official Android development tools (SDK). In case it's of any interest for anyone I'll include the tutorial I followed, but it turns out I'm not allowed to post links yet, so the title of the article was Cómo instalar aplicaciones DIRECTAMENTE en la tarjeta SD from androidjefe website. In English, How to: Force Android to automatically install apps to SD card from softonic website
I hope it helps

Read first post. I don't think it will work if you have a build other than AOG1.
And you should not use TWRP to flash like this. Use Odin and Download mode instead.
Will this rooted firmware work with my SM-G361F phone? Need advice...
Hi there,
Will this rooted version work with my phone?
I'm new here and need some help and advice re Rooting this Samsung phone SM-G361F - I'M NO TECHIE but have ability to following instructions and make connections etc. My phone details are below.
Baseband G361FXXU1ASC1
Build LMY48B.G361FXXU1AQD1
Patch level is 2017-4-01
Security software version ASKS 1.2_161011
I did once try rooting a Samsung tablet using Odin and it all worked OK, but that was a while ago.
How important is it to get the identical build or baseband? Anything else I need to check?
I was trying initially trying to change the phone's MAC address, as I was experimenting with the phone, however I could not use an App to do this as it stated phone that the phone needs Rooting first for App to work. Also tried Terminal Emulator app but it kept failing to work as I was probably, unable to input the text commands required correctly.
I hope someone can please help and advise me on this.
M
Kind regards

Galaxy Note 4 rom issue SM-N910F

Hey all,
I recently broke my main phone whilst carrying out a repair (Sidenote dont do repairs when your hungover)~
Anyway went back to using my note 4 and I couldent use my banking app because I had obviously at some point in the past rooted the phone.
So I embarked on a mission to unroot it which I was successful in.
But then I found a way I could have my phone rooted and use my banking app but it involved flashing the phone back to the stock rom entirely
I downloaded what I was sure was the stock rom for my phone and got to work with odin.
anyway the phone booted fine but whenever it tried to connect to the mobile network it rebooted itself.
Obviously not the stock rom
Ive since searched high and low for the stock rom flashed several on too the phone and yeah no joy
So right now I dont have a phone and im genuinly surprised at the impact that is having on my life lol.
So im hoping to get some help too find the stock rom for my phone
As says in the title its a samsung galaxy note 4 SM-N910F it was purchased in the united kingdom and the network is o2
Any help and advice would genuinly be apreciated.
Cheers.

I don't have this device myself but, it looks like you may need to Obtain and Flash the Stock Firmware with the PIT File (PIT = Partition Information Table) for your device.
The following is the SamMobile link for the Firmware for your device (on the UK "O2U").
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-note4/SM-N910F/O2U/
The following link is to SamMobile as well where you can obtain the PIT File for your device.
https://www.sammobile.com/forum/threads/30022-Galaxy-note-4-(-SM-N910-)-pit-files
They both are used together when flashed via Odin.
If you require further guidance, your best bet would be to obtain it within the following Q&A thread that's specific to your device and variants.

Good Luck!
