what's the difference between hdr+ and hdr+ enhanced?
On older versions, HDR+ On was known as HDR+ Auto while HDR+ Enhanced was known as HDR+ On. Just a simple name change, but confusing to end users.

There is no gain that justifies using the Enhanced mode. Stay on HDR+, this mode have ZSL (zero shutter lag).

Thank you I was looking for a thread like this! I found it weird that other phones models have very active threads dedicated to modded Google Camera and we have virtually nothing, even though Google Camera modding started on the the Mi 5s by developer B-S-G on the 4PDA forum.
Also I was having a bit of hard time to reliably find the latest version to conveniently keep it up-to-date (I was still running one of the early mods from august) but luckily somebody here on XDA has a thread with B-S-G's latest version that seems to be maintained well, so:
If you're looking for the latest version of B-S-G's modded Google Camera check out this thread in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 subforum
(and verify if it's really the latest with this message on the 4PDA forum, currently that is V5.1.016_V1.3a)
Proper B-S-G Mod settings for Mi 5s
Anyways, I was looking for the proper settings for the Mi 5s but it seems the settings have been renamed since the OP. I currently have them set to:
Model: Pixel XL (corr)
Config camera HDR+: Pixel 2016 Zsl HDR
HDR+ parameters: Default
Manual fixed black level offset: off
Final jpg quality HDR+: 95% (Default)
Compress RAW(*.DNG): on
Is there anything I could improve in that?
And lastly, I was wondering if it's possible yet to enable motion photo's somehow? And if not is that being worked on? I think I saw it was mentioned by B-S-G on the 4PDA forum somewhere.

Lol, there Is an updated thread about that here , on the mi 5s forum.
U shoud search better. :good:
Also this very thread Is much of the same as the camera thread, the hdr+ port thread AND the UP to date flashable hdr+ thread.
Great topic dude. I'm here to ask you about the resolution of the pictures taken by the front camera. Here, in the Google Camera the maximum resolution for a picture in the front camera is 1920x1080p otherwise in the MIUI camera app (ported) I realized that the resolution is 2688x1512 pixels! You know that there's a way to increase the resolution on the Google camera for the front camera? Because the pictures taken by the Google camera are amazing! It's a punch on miui camera!
Here are some more links for the Google camera app. I've personally found the version made specifically for the Mi5s give the best results. Better color and details overall.

I seen the old Moto camera posted before but not the new one. This is the stock Motorola Camera+ from the MotoX with Gallery. This is based of 5.X.X so it should work across most lollipop builds. I have tested this on stock and AOSP ROM's.

If you want the additional options (settings) to work you must change you're build.prop on the line that says "release-keys" to "tests keys". I will upload the build.prop also, I stripped out the OEM specific junk also. The exact line in the build prop to change is :
ro.build.tags=release-keys (original)
to
ro.build.tags=test-keys (changed)
Of course all the same rules apply. Myself or XDA are NOT responsible for the lack of common sense or stupidity, resulting in bootloops or non functional devices.

I actually have the new HTC camera on my N6 right now and I still think this camera gives better images. I went to a instant print machine the other day. I was really impressed of the quality of the pictures when printed.
Both the HTC and the Motorola are missing HDR options. The Motorola Camera has less functionality than the HTC camera, specifically I need to be able to set focus while 4K video recording.
The burst mode is very good on this one. Overall I think ALL camera apps are missing one thing or another, which I think is very frustrating.
LCamera is outdated, has no HDR and latest dev build has issues.
F5-V is slow & buggy atm and I don't like the UI, 4K video is broken, no HDR.
Manual Camera has great UI & Control but no video recording & HDR ?!!!!
Motorola has ****ty UI, but feels polished. Burst mode works great, but no HDR. No focus control while recording video.
HTC Camera has a ****ty UI and no HDR. (But is the best one overall with focus control during 4K Video recording)
Google Camera is a joke but is the only one with working HDR.
Pick your poison.
I would love a fully functioning ColorOS camera port.
Any advice ?
Um, I can look into porting it over. It might just work if you strip the apk out of the ROM.

That would be great but there already has been a port made for the oneplus one CM12 and Ive tried using that one but it just crashes on opening the app. (running CM12 myself here too)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/themes-apps/port-coloros-camera-cm11s-t3030369
Maybe you can contact the guy/girl behind that port and work something out.
I've gotten to the point where I would pay for a decent camera app for the nexus 6.
I just downloaded it. If I have time I will work on it tonight. If not ,after memorial day I will get it done. I will also put it on my github so others can use it.
Just a quick update for anyone following this thread. I gathered up some source stuff and will be starting to dive into the ColorOS camera port along side a few others.
If you have any other camera that's not functional on the N6 post it in this thread and I will look into it.

Mostly closed. HDR+ is not impossible I think it can be done. Just need the right base and proper kernel. That's in future plans of mine.

Lol I got sidetracked with developer preview. However, I do have the ColorOS camera running on the N6, but it won't take a picture when you press the button or force closes. I pinned it down to some kernel tweaks that need to be made. So no ETA's but I'm getting there.

now tested in daylight, there is isnt real difference in speed to take picture.
by my opinion bsg doesnt have so vivid colours as arnova. some difference in details for some pictures in favour to arnova in some to bsg
faster in low light conditions in general with bsg, better colours with arnova.

For comparison, Redmi Note 5 Pro, the one that compared to this phone a lot, has Camera2 API support, but only if you edit the build.prop first (according to my friend that have it, I don't actually have that phone).
For me myself, I might will be still using my Mi 5s for foreseable future...

If me, it is me myself who are looking for this phone. RN5P still disabled the C2A, need (temporary) root to enable it. Same with this phone, if no C2A support out of box, at least we can enable it using the same method. But there is a rumour about major OTA update at 30 April. We expect to see a lot of improvement compared to the somewhat "beta" ROM from the media review unit. Let's hope to see the C2A has been enabled in this major update.

Hi awaaas,
Looking for this phone too? I have created the lounge at kaskus, you might want to check it out. Reminds me of old days.
Unfortunately, no C2A support yet, at least not in the demo unit.

Haven't seen it anywhere yet. Only the 4K DCI/UHD and the 1080p has EIS already in the retail unit. The camera app seems will be updated tomorrow to support it. Hopefully, we can see the C2A support too in the next update.
Gcam will not work without camera api2 ! Let's wait and see...
Hope they will update to add support soon. Don't let the stock camera app be the limiting factor of image quality!
I hope someone comes with a GCam port for this phone. As far as what I tested, the phone's rear cam is quite good (except for very low light scenarios).
Also, the front cam desperately needs better balance in colors, dynamic range. Currently, selfie quality is quite decent, the colors are not accurate/natural even under good light (skin has a red tinge). And overall, brightness, noise level etc., could be tweaked a bit too.
Any suggestions for a different app that can bring out better photos out of the front cam??

Hey Aniket, thanks for the SS, can you install this Camera2 API Probe https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.airbeat.device.inspector app, actually, in this app its gives the individual camera parameters for both front & back camera & earlier the app link that I gave, that shows the overall result so basically it was my bad so I'm requesting you to install this app instead now this time & ost the SS once again as I want to know all the parameters for both of the cam of this hone individually.
& is it possible to install Gcam in this hone without rooting or is there any tools available like this MI A1's AIO Toolhttps://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/how-to/tool-xiaomi-mi-a1-tool-drivers-unlock-t3742857 so that it can be rooted & unlocked automatically & that can be used by all the novice users, & whether all future OTA updates will be available if bootloader is unlocked & rooted & warranty will be voided or not
Is there a version of Gcam that uses the dual lens for calculating the depth and then using Gcam's hdr+ enhanced. Google Pixel 2 uses split pixels for approx. the depth. Can the dual cam of Mi A1 or any other phone that has dual lens be used for calculating the depth?
The 2nd camera of the MiA1 is used for 2x zoom pics. Its not used to calculate depth of the subject in portrait mode.

This is wrong... stock Xiaomi's camera does use both cameras to create fake "depth" effect.
Google Camera does this through software only and does not require 2nd camera, I've never seen any hack of GCam using 2 cameras.
May be After Android Pie update.-

Android 9 was supposed to have support for dual camera. As of now there is no support for dual camera in pixel devices and since google camera is ported from pixel or nexus device so there is no port that use both camera for bokeh. there is magisk module where it use tele lens. But both camera being used simultaneously is not happening any sooner may be in future.

No, you are confused. The Mi A1 (and other Xiaomi phones like the Mi Mix 2s) uses software to create the depth of field effect. The 2nd rear camera module on the Mi A1 is used for 2x zoom only.

Second one I hid 2nd objective with my finger...
Oh... No depth effect...
Software is of course used, but to combine pictures from both cameras.

Plus as well from http://in.c.mi.com/in/thread-843074-1-0.html :
The 50 mm telephoto lens captures the main object and 26 mm wide angle lens assists depth of field measurement. The stereoscopic imaging and deep learning algorithm then processes the individual images and produces a bokeh effect that is DSLR like in nature.

You're right, my mistake. I read somewhere that the MiA1 primarily uses software for the bokeh effect which was wrong.

Actually, what you read might still be true.
Since it says that it uses "primarily" software, it could mean that 90% of the bokeh effect comes from software and it only uses 10% of the data from the 2nd camera, I have no idea how much is software and how much is hardware, but clearly it won't work with just one camera, while Google's algorithm is 100% software for sure (Pixels have single cameras).
And to get back to OP's question, from what I read, Google's algorithm is pretty damn good, so not sure there would be a benefit of using the dual lens... I've not installed the "hacks" to get Camera2 API and EIS, so I'm not using Google Camera, but if you have, I suggest you could make a test and compare both, and see which one is better.

It was a while ago, and thinking at length about it, I could be wrong on remembering that it was primarily software as well. Not where I read it from but more info about portrait mode:
https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-enable-portrait-mode-on-any-phone/
Gcam is very useful for indoor/low light photos, the difference is quite noticeable. No permanent root or hacks to do get gcam.
Roughly all you have to do is run 2 commands as root to get gcam working. If you know how to boot to twrp and use adb shell its very easy. The part about locking back the bootloader is optional, but you can relock it if you want . Locking/unlocking will delete data unless you press some buttons down so its better to make backups first.
