Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone would know how the G6 (North American Variant) compares to the V30 in terms of camera and audio output?
Here's what I have been able to dig up so far, I would be really glad if anyone could help me shine some light on them:
G6's (single) DAC is above average since it is designed for 32bit 192khz audio output. But the reviews and opinions are wildly varied
V30's quad DAC produces awesome audio output but reviews / opinions range from "not THAT impressive" to "as good as HTC10"
The camera in V30 oversaturates color

Starting Nov. 9, here in the US, Amazon Prime members can get the G6+ unlocked with 128GB and the Quad DAC.

In Austria and Germany the Lg G5 and the Axon 7 cost pretty much the same. Which one is better?
you should wait for price drop. anyway lg g5 got better camera without discussion despite the fact that the same aperture f/1.8 (really i don't understand why Chinese companies can't copy camera from samsung s7 or lg g5). lg got awful design for me. lower battery but removable and guaranteed updates.
i can't help you i just need camera from lg g5, design from oneplus 3, audio chip from axon and speakers from axon or alcatel idol 4
Depends what's more important to you:
LG G5:
- Excellent performer
- Removable battery (great when there is no options for charging or traveling)
- IR blaster one the only current flagship to still offer this. tat I know of
- Very good camera with a second wide angle camera option
- Very good single speaker (I find it easier to hear this single speaker then my Nexus 6P's dual speakers if there is some noise in the environment)
Axon 7:
- Larger 5.5 inch AMOLED display vs the G5's 5.3" IPS LCD
- Superior HiFi audio from headphone jack AND dual front facing speakers
- Said to be Google Daydream VR ready
- Should be a good performer with SD 820 (Not sure if it as good as the G5)
- Looks to have a better build (no paint job).
I like my G5 but am (was?) interested in the Axon 7 mainly due to it better audio (headphone and external speakers) and is Daydream VR support. As time passes on I'm less and less interested in the Azon 7. I'm not sure the audio and VR really justifies getting the Axon 7. As I will likely use those features less then what I enjoy about the G5 (performance, camera).
G5 build quality is sh*t. The metal cut is different from phone to phone and unprecise. I did my research before I bought my new HTC 10.
G5 build quality is the biggest no-go G5 has. This is also what kept me away from buying it.
Other than that, G5 is ok.
I already leave G5 out of my list.
I need a second phone to replace my 1+1. At the moment, I have narrowed the lis down only to 3 phones, namely: ZTE Axon 7 , 1+3 and ASUS Zenfone 3 Deluxe.
Well with the Axon 7 getting a release date for the 27th of July and a better than expected $399.99 price, it's hard to pass up.
Have to see what early reviews say, but it's at killer specs at that price point. My interred had been a bit renewed.
In all seriousness, I'm itching to use my t-mo jump on demand. thinking between the lg g6 or the s8+..
I cant decide. The comments in the threads equally say, there's no hope in regards to modding.
I just may as well go back to the LG v20 just to have something different to play with. any thoughts or opinions? Any help is appreciated. (I wish t-mo carried a larger selection of phones).
keep your V20.

V20 > G6. Here's a couple of compelling reasons:
Superior color-accurate 20MP camera vs 12MP oversaturated camera, Quad DAC vs crap Snapdragon DAC, 64GB on-board storage vs 32GB on-board storage, Notification LED vs no Notification LED, IR blaster vs no IR blaster, removable battery vs no removable battery...
The G6 (U.S. version especially) seems half-baked aside from its obvious aesthetic appeal. I'd recommend waiting for the V30. It's bound to be far more worthwhile.
heya
So galaxyS2 finally on it's last legs.. yes, can't believe it lasted that long myself. Now in the market for either S8 (G950FD) or G6 (870DS with quad dac). I'm in the UK so planning to get it from wondaMobile.
Decided to go for the G6 (preferred the flat screen design, dual cameras, screen aspect ratio, don't care about wireless charging) and was just about to fire off the order when I read Google Daydream doesn't support it and that overall LCD is no match for AMOLED for VR!
Can anyone comment on their VR experiences with the G6? Trying to decide whether this will be a deal breaker or not.
And I guess whilst, I'm here:
1) Front camera: From what I've seen, the back camera functionality is kind of a tie vs S8. Yes, G6 has wide angle but S8 has dual pixel for better focus (apparently). Photo quality in general is about even. But not that much has been said about the front cameras. S8 is supposedly superior with 8MP and autofocus. What do you peeps think?
2) Sound: Is the quad dac on G6 hands down outright better than S8?
cheers!
Wait for the LG V30, I think it will have amoled screen with better camera than LG G6 and I supose it will support daydream with the snapdragon 835. The only disavantatge is it will cost more than the lg g6

yeh that is another option as well along with perhaps the pixel 2. apparently the v30 will have f1.6 camera?
But the wait would be a major bummer plus having to wait further for the prices to drop - the G6/S8 are at good price points now
if LCD screens are really that much inferior to AMOLED for VR then i might go with the S8 instead of waiting...

Yes it's confirmed it'll have f/1.6 aperture which is crazy for a 2017 flagship, 16mp main angle camera, 13 mp wide angle , I guess this will make LG V30 camera unbeatable until the 2018 flagships are out. The hype is much higher than any 2017 flagships where as the upcoming Galaxy Note 8 looks boring.

The today price of G6 make it worth buying, and next year to pass to v30.
LCD is not inferior to amoled, actually is quite good. To much hype these days.
If you want Unlockable bootloader with all advantage, do not buy DS, only if DS is a must. No need to think of dac, it is nothing spectacular for a normal user.
so after much indecision ... i think my thought pendulum has now swung back over to the S8 side...
but i guess will at least wait for the V30 and Note 8 to come out in a couple wks time to see
It is very upsetting that the sound quality on this phone is not even close to the rich sound found on the Samsung S4 made 3 years before.
Is there anyway I can upgrade the sound chip on this phone? I mostly listen to Music on Youtube, Soundcloud and other streams.
for having the s4 also, I find the g6 much better, either via headphones or via the speaker (which is really good for a mono positioned on one side)
I selected the equalizer "QuadBeat", the sound is rich and detailed, yet my model is the h870, it does not have the quad DAC but the quality is superb
Sent from my LG G6 using XDA Labs
What? You are comparing Galaxy S4 and G6? ? H870 (without quad DAC) have pretty solid DAC and AMP, and detailed test showed that even the Galaxy S8 Exynos haven't better audio chip than G6 H870 with standard DAC. Bottom firing speaker is also crispy and very detailed. Galaxy S4, oh man please don't...
I read that lg v35 has ESS 9228 DAC but there's no mention of this DAC on ESS's website. So are these articles wrong? I think it's likely to be the case cos the G7 and V30 all have ESS 9218p.
ESS 9018 like the V30, 8ch dac with 4 dac channel per Left and Right. However the amp is kind of weak, compared to my SMSL M6. I'd suggest very efficient headphones or small earbuds. I have the Monoprice M300s and have to be at Volume 60 to get any significant dynamic range.
