Posting here as I'm a noob, and consequently can't post to the P.A page directly.
Since this 2.12 update i've been having wifi issues, like from where i am positioned normally I get 1 bar, but its a steady one bar, now i'm often finding i have no internet connection in the same places as i would before.
I did do a dirty flash, so that is most probably where all my problems are arising from, but i'm still really new to this, and any step i take, i worry and fret over.
had some tablet ui bugs after running games, along with all applications running twice when i open recent apps. I don't know where why or when this recent apps double bug occurs, but i've come across it a few times. I believe the tablet ui bug may be related to when i set bobclock (widget) to force, adjusted the size on restart, but then would encounter the icons dropped off bottom of screen, and everything just out of place, like its reverted to old ui.
oh another issue, which has been mentioned many times before, is inability to use google play store, i've fiddled with all the different dpi settings and size, nothing seems to work.
a clean wipe would include
backing up apps/data/p.a sys pref(?)
wiping
cleaning cache's
flashing the same 2.12 p.a zip i dirty flashed before
caches again? or gapps
any dumbing down would be greatly appreciated
Just to say version 2.13 is out. You might want to try updating in the first instance...

oh.. so there is. well i guess i can just skip over 2.12
if doing a dirty flash, when reinstalling gapps, do i have to have deleted them prior to this? or will it just replace/update the old files?
No, you don't need to. Just wipe both caches and install the new version and gapps.

we got any paranoid android avid fans here? running on the nux 7, ofc.
and by avid fan i mean, quite knowledgable, maybe able to help with some issues that may arise, being under 10 post count, there very little i can do it actually get any relevant help, ie to p.a
there is just so much information here, and being new to the android scene, consequently rooting roms and such as well. quite a bit is over my head but i'm doing my best! or well trying

What sort of help are you looking for? I can try to answer any questions you might have, but your best bet is to search the paranoid android forum in the 'Original Development' section.

Wouldn't Kernel be more specifically tied to WiFi issues? I don't know what PA does to the kernel they include, but if your up to it, you could try another kernel, like franco.Kernel
Oh. Yes. i've been on that page and have trolled through a few hundred pages.
I think I just need to become a bit more familiar with everything in regards to roms flashing and such, its not difficult but i fear i'm sure to do something in the wrong order,
yes i've read guides before you point me there.
gosh this 5 min wait timer for new people is getting on my nerves i didn't think i'd be wanting to reply so fast, but when you guys are on it like this, i can't turn down that kinda service!
another question while i wait for my timer to finish.
initially i flashed pa. 2.11 then gapps along with doing cache business.
since then i flashed 2.12, but not gapps, and consequently having issues with play store (cant open)
can i just go to flashing 2.13 when it finishes downloading and then flash gapps after?
is the latest gapps jb-20120726-signed?

a kernel is one of these things i have no clue about.
i had a mac many years ago, and that got a kernel error, so my knowledge is limited to that its something root related, or there abouts anyway xd
How does one go about implementing one of these kernel do-hickeys?
on a side note, my wireless icon used to show grey and blue.
blue meant connected, grey, i'm not sure.. sometimes worked sometimes didn't
ever since going to 2.12 i've had nothing but grey, seem to have connection as i am downloading from goo, but as mentioned in initial post, connection is definately worse than it was before hand.. any ideas?

Sorry I took a while, I was in class. First, you always have to reflash gapps when you flash an update or a new ROM.
When you change to a different ROM (i.e. from Slim Bean to Paranoid) it's recommended to do a full wipe/factory reset before flashing the new ROM.
So the procedure for new ROMs is this. Factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, flash ROM, flash gapps, reboot.
The procedure for a ROM update is the same, you just omit the factory reset.
The latest gapps is gapps jb-20120810. You can download it in Goo manager.

A kernel is what governs your CPU clock speeds and voltage levels, as well as some other things. To flash a kernel, you don't have to wipe anything, just flash the zip file. Whenever you flash a new ROM, it changes your kernel to whatever is stock for that ROM. So if you use a custom kernel, you will have to reflash it.

p.a 2.13
might anyone have any idea why after;
wiping both cashes and installing p.a 2.13 then gapps
my youtube comes up with an error from the beginning, unable to start, same goes for if you click it in the app drawer.
i fiddled about with dpi size force and such, but to no avail.
some settings transferred but not all, like the ui, after switching ui back to what i wanted, tab small/mid
i started to recieve trebuchet has stopped working, this keeps popping up but you can just leave it in the back ground and work around it..
wish i could post this in the correct thread..
ah well.
thinking of just re-flashing them both, will do whatever i did this previous time, see if the error returns.
edit: just finished the reflashing of both, no trebuchet error as expected, the youtube one is back, same as the previous flash.
i really don't think i've done anything wrong, but i haven't seen anyone else reporting this error..
edit edit: simple uninstall and reinstall for youtube and problem solved.
hope its an issue localised to me.

Yeah I would reflash. It could also be a corrupted download, try re-downloading paranoid android 2.13 and then flashing the newer zip to see if that fixes it.

Hello guys,
First of all, let me make it clear lol. Even though I have read rules and regulations, I apologize if I may break any rules by posting this here.
Secondly, a newbie at android development here. I recently rooted my nexus 4 and installed SlimKat 4.4.2. After the reboot, it looked pretty normal and everything seemed to be working fine. However, I rebooted my phone second time and the APP MENU and Clock changed their position. APP MENU seemed to have moved to right, rather than on centre. Same thing with Clock. It cannot be placed right in the middle as any normal OS would have (please refer to the pictures). I am aware of the fact that this version of SlimKat is not as stable as 4.3. Therefore, before I flash it to 4.3, I wanted to see if there would be a cure.
My last question is, if I want to install Franco Kernel, would it be compatible with SlimKat 4.4.2?
Thanks.
Yes to Franco kernel and you're problem is that slimkat has a different dpi from most stock roms . I haven't installed the rom but I think there may be an option in the settings to change it back , if not its easily done via the build prop . Just Google it. From my following of the thread it seems to be an excellent choice of rom , so change what you need to then enjoy.
Phone : Nexus 4 /Rom : cataclysm / Kernel : Stock.
I tried but

Thanks for the reply man but my curiosity got me. Even before you replied, I tried installing FK r193 and it failed . Like, I rebooted after installation. It was stuck to black screen of death right after the Google's logo. I had to reinstall the ROM in order to overcome the BSOD problem.
Also, do you think I can go back from Slimkat 4.4.2 to Kitkat 4.4.2 (original OS) and then Install FK?

That screen you're posting maybe due to the grid dimension change in the launcher. Sometimes it is buggy and changed by itself upon reboot. Seems to be happening across many roms randomly (mostly it changed the grid in appdrawer by itself) using that google launcher. For franco, r193 seems quite old right? Why not try it with the latest one?
Yes, you can just go back to stock 4.4.2. If you had made a nand backup of your stock, then it will be easier. If you don't, then just flash back 4.4.2 factory images or just try other roms. There are many good ones out there.

Lol yeah. I finally figured. I downloaded it from a youtube video, and the link he posted was in Aug '13. I m trying to google it but It leads me to xda page where I cant seem to locate the older versions. does FK has a proper website from where I can download latest update? Also, how would I know if I need JSS or JWR? I mean, I tried doing my research and I found the following xda page.

Jwr/jss is 4.3 kernel. Nothing to worry about that as we are using 4.4+ Here, this is franco's thread. You can get the link for latest build there. Alternatively, you can buy his app (Franco Kernel Updater) in playstore to get updates.

The positioning of the app drawer and clock has to do with the dip. Download textdroider dpi from playstore and change your dpi to 280 and that will fix the missalignment problem.

Yes, that's what I do. But I guess I chose to share the easy way out. Either way I don't really use Google experience launcher, I use Nova launcher so I'm not affected by the dpi missalignment.
So to do it manually do as posted above, edit buld.prop. To do it easily download textdroider dpi.

Yeah, using nova here too so that I can theme the icons. Using xposed to mask the icons is too much of a hassle.

Dont know how to just change the splash screen but there are many options, for example in the Supermanrom or the King ROM, to change the Splash screen also.
Or maybe flash your rom again without choosing the Sevenperience splash, maybe then you should have the normal one.
I actually didnt choose the option for the sevenperience. But i still got it. And im currently on renovate edge.

Then try to flash the newest compatible bootloader. Idk if it works.
I have a weird looking (not working) charging animation when the phone is powered off and charging since I flashed a particular 7.1 rom. Because I couldn't find anything helpful I ask here on xda: Is it possible to change said animation?
Uhh I think thats related to the kernel, maybe not tho

Already tried, didn't do the trick. It really is kernel related. I found a rom where it works now (Cosmic OS). It's a shame that there seems to be no option to customize it though. My question was, if you can change it manually.

Can you confirm that this is working? I've been wanting to use a black substratum theme for ages, but until now I didn't dare to, since substratum doesn't officially support LineageOS as far as I know. On top of that I read a couple of comments of people having issues

You're right, but I meant LineageOS as in an LOS-based ROM more than LOS itself. Most custom ROMs run better than LOS and have a bunch of features.
You may know that Substratum uses "OMS" to do the overlay stuff, so if you want a ROM with full substratum compatibility, it's as easy as finding one with the necessary commits, like NucleaROM or RR (I prefer NucleaROM over all of the other LOS-based ROMs to be honest). Just look at the description of the ROM for 'oms support'. Or you can try, I'm sure that I used Substratum on LineageOS stock for some time and I was getting 7 hrs SOT with heavy usage

Alright, so thats how it is. But you say you had it running on LOS? Did you experience issues, or why don't you have it running anymore? I think I used it on LOS yeah. But I prefer stock over custom ROMs by far. And now that the MiFavor 5 ROM is out (with the Android 7 QS tiles) I don't have any reason to use the buggy and laggy custom ROMs
I swear LOS was the worst of them all when I used it back in Feb/March. The worst thing was that a bunch of apps simply didn't feel like working...

Yes I do. Personally I don't feel like it's that bad so you think it's save to try it out?
Hmm so you feel like stock is better right now? I switched to LOS because I was kinda mad at the stock rom (at least the German one) since updates weren't coming at promised times and when they did come they were full of bugs like apps not working and more.... Which was mostly fixed afterwards, but I wasn't that happy with the situation. I also didn't like the look and feel, which now wouldn't be as much of a problem, since I'm using Nova + KLWP to change most of the visuals. Is the "Tiles-App" with more QS tiles working with stock now? It didn't when I went to LOS. How's battery life? What are your main reason to go back to stock?
And least but not last.... How would I get back to stock? Just flashing a zip from the ZTE website?
And another weird thing which didn't bother me too much until now: I bought my phone in Germany so I had the G model. Ever since going to LineageOS, which included unlocking the boot loader etc. My phone tells me /shows up as the U model.... Is that bad in any way? Other than that it seems to work alright though

-I like stock because it runs better, and even though I thought I would hate ZTE's UI, I actually like it after using it for a long time. And the 5.0 UI is awesome, nuff said. They use blur on the volume pop-up and when you pull down the status bar.
MiFavor 5.0 is not official, it's just the A2017 ROM that's been ported by the Russians. You need to install a special A2017 bootstack (it seemed really dangerous but it's not that bad really) and then the system zip, which formats /system anyways. After that you have to format /data (which will format the internal storage too, just saying) because of the encryption, and it should boot just fine.
I have an A2017G too and flipped out when they f00ked up with B02 with Google Play Store, then B03 with exfat, and went to LOS. Then i tried to go back and DFU-bricked my phone. After I fixed it I preferred to stay stock, and in B04 they fixed everything there was to fix. Tried NucleaROM, best so far but it still has that WIP feel...
Anyways, make a backup of your current system on an SD card if you want to go 5.0.
The A2017U thing is normal, it's because the universal bootloader is actually the U bootloader without the NON-HLOS.bin which you flash later via the A2017G-MODEM.zip (which is ancient lol)

The best would be wiping everything, but you can try wiping system only. after that if the phone doesn't work well just wipe data
It seems to be that all the ROMs have bugs or are laggy. Stock is best right now if my research is correct.
Stock...
Edit* with a few things added and removed...
So I am running Nuclear Ron now, everything went smoothly and I've got Magisk installed correctly for root access. So far when I'm using the rom I love everything and substratum works well as well.....
But.... Whenever I turn of the screen it almost immediately reboots... when using my phone I don't get any random reboots, but when the screen is off it restarts every time. This is a real bummer and I keep my phone off most of the time right now, to prevent the reboots every minute :/
Any ideas what the reason for this issue could be? Would love to stay with this rom, but only if I can get this fixed!
I Uninstalled substratum and the substratum themes by the way, but that didn't help either...
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!
I get phenomenal battery life and speed on NucleaROM. Stability is so-so, however.
