October factory images - Google Pixel 2 XL Guides, News, & Discussion

October's factory images were just posted!
https://developers.google.com/android/images

Build number matches my current, but I'm on the Sept' patch level.
Hmmm...
(Seems to be some agreement on another site that it is mislabeled and is actually the Sept' build - what we already have on our devices.)

Interesting the Builds are all OPD* does the D stand for development since all the other images for other phones are R*?

Awesome. Development can come soon now.

Anyone know the difference between 010, 011, 012 and OPD1 vs OPD3?

No, just another sub-branch of O(Oreo)P(Release). Pixels are R1 and R3, Pixel 2's are D1 and D3.

Someone got build prop .?

Android M and Sony Xperia Z3

So, Android M has been out for more than two hours now and so far there is not a single topic/thread asking when will we finally get it?
I mean, the dozing stuff is quite cool. Too bad we have (likely producing the exact same results) Stamina mode already.
But the automatic app data backup is quite amazing (http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...eynote-automatic-app-data-backup-and-restore/).
So, what do you guys think? Will we even get the update in the end? What are the features you would really like to have it for?
I do think we'll eventually get Android M on our Z3's but we'll probably be waiting around a year or so (roughly 6 months till most nexus devices get it then another 6 months or so while Sony fine tunes and tests). Let's not forget today's release is just a developer preview and a lot of new functions aren't even working yet.
I'm looking forward to having dark theme setting available, keyboard undo/redo shortcuts (sounds useful) and granular app permissions. Sd card also appears to be back in favour with the new adoption feature and battery historian v2 should give us much better stats
I reckon Sony will release Android M around April / May 2016.

Yes, the app data up to 25MB per app. Backed up to GDrive.
Myself, I would be pretty shocked if we get official M from Sony. We just barely went from KK to LP and I am not so happy with 5.0.2 and I want 5.1.x ASAP.
Man lol, I'm still enjoying Kit Kat for our Z3.. Don't even look forward to an update as the phone keeps chugging along fine. If M does come though, I wouldn't mind it.
Hopefully we get Android M. If not that would be quite disappointing. Also hope that they go with Macaroon for Android M name
I think it will be Marshmallow
But the screenshots are disappointing. Looks exactly like Lollipop.
I don't like the new way Google makes their Software. There are too much updates and changes so the modding and Developer Community will die slowly.
I like the new look and feel of Android L. And I will be very very happy if there would be Android M for the Z3.
Wasn't there the guarantee from Sony, that they would upgrade to two major releases?
Android M preview is now out for the Z3, Z3 Compact, Z3 Tablet Compact, Z2, Z2 Tablet, Z1, Z1 Compact, Z Ultra, E3, M2, T2 Ultra and T3: http://developer.sonymobile.com/kno...eveloper-preview-for-unlocked-xperia-devices/

Probably because M hasn't been out for more than two hours. M won't be out until late Fall (October/November). Just like the L developer preview came at I/O but L didn't go live until early November.
However, Google pushed more of the M dev preview source to AOSP than they did for L dev preview (there was no way anyone could even think about building AOSP for L-preview), but it is still fairly incomplete. So don't expect anything other than proof-of-concept hacks that aren't usable for a daily driver until sometime after October/November when M goes live officially. For example, the "Now On Tap" feature seems to be completely missing from AOSP in the M-preview branches.

It depends on how much more Google changes internally before M goes live in October/November. So far changes from L to make AOSP "m-preview" work weren't significant, but that's partly because a lot of the "M-preview" source is closer to L than to M as the source is incomplete.

90% certain they're using the same blobs as L. Haven't had time to look at the M build info yet, honestly not really planning on bothering with it vs. fixing remaining AOSP L issues.

Is anyone slightly annoyed about the current cyanogen situation?

Here we are with our Moto X Style/Pure Edition way after it has been released. We have been given no confirmation by cyanogen that it will ever officialy support our phones. Their is a semi-working version of cyanogen if you build it yourself... What a chicks me is that the Moto e and g 2015 both run cyanogen 13 (albeit unofficial) and officially support cyanogen 12.1 so I'm just kinda curious if anyone else is slightly annoyed?
No, it'll be here when its ready.
I'm happy enough using Xposed.
AICP is pretty sweet.
Here's a good way to stop development dead in its tracks...

Yeah, AICP is CM based so it has all CM features.
In addition, CM will be officially supported for this device when all the tiny bugs we have left are fixed. (Mainly the Sprint bugs)
Take your time Hash. I'd rather it take longer and be right than quick and super buggy.

No, it doesn't slightly annoy me. But you making a thread like this may slightly annoy those who are in the process of developing an official CM build. Want one quicker? Learn Java, Android development, and help them out!

If you want a job doing, do it yourself. Otherwise, buy a phone that is already supported, or sit tight and wait in the hope that it will get CM (quite likely it will arrive sooner or later).

Just another noob. Gots to get his post count up. I really suggest you rethink your current position. Only 3 posts and this is what you come up with. WTF is wrong with people like you. Why must there always be that one post that pisses me off and I am not a Dev. I support what there doing with donations when I can. I suggest you do the same, then sit back and watch the magic happen. Patience is a virtue. Thanks devs for all your hard work the majority of us appreciate it.

Android 7.0 aka Nougat!

Google unveiled the Android 7 aka Nougat. So what is your thought? Any features will be? Memory leak? Battery Life? Dark Mode? Will be OnePlus One will get the update?

No.if they update , then one plus will not earn money..
V might get cm14 ... at least unofficially
I think we could all agree on the point that the OnePlus One will get the official CM nightlies. If Cyanogen Inc. is going to update the OPO depends on the user base. (Source: COS 13 thread OP Forums..) Steve Kondik said, with a reason, that they totally rebased the OnePlus One with the COS 13 update, a part of the reason why they did that is that it would make faster OS updates in the future possible.
I believe in the CyanogenMod guys, I think that officially we'll never see Android 7 on the phone, but unofficially I'm pretty confident.
It is evident that Cyanogen Inc is pushing Microsoft mods pretty dramatically to OPO with at least the latest COS 13.1 update.
They will definitely use this phone for the large user base to check for the usage pattern, and other statistics for creating a better baseline and user experience for MOD going forward. And obviously, Microsoft also has an interest in having more people use their "integrated" apps and OPO is very good device for that.
So my opinion is a STRONG YES, Cyanogen Inc WILL update to Android N, but again, 3 months after the first release.

Since the dev scene for OPO is still pretty active ( one example: 3.10 kernel) i'm pretty sure we'll get android 7.0 via unofficial cm14

Usually cyanogen stops support after 2 years, just like Google does. OPO could be an exception, both because the snapdragon 801 is still a pretty popular processor and because the phone itself is still rocking. but nothing is sure on this side.

If we're taking a look at the contract for the updates, then the official support ended at the end of May. But as Steve Kondik said, they'll be updating the OPO to Android N if the userbase is large enough (COS). And the official CM Nightlies will continue even a few years after the official support ends. So one way or another, we'll be seeing Android N on the OPO.

It's not really true that Google stops supporting their phones after 2 years actually. Google keeps updating the device if the hardware is still good enough for it. That's one of the reasons the Nexus 5 still receives security patches, just like the Nexus 7 (2013).

I'm preaty sure we will get the Official update from Cyanogen Inc!
If you look at Cyanogen Inc official page, our phone IS THE ONLY PHONE currently running their latest OS (COS13.1).
The Oneplus One was the first well known Cyanogen Phone, and they wont abandon it's first child.
I think we will be updated until google stops supporting its Nexus 6 (SD 805), because it was the last nexus with a 32 bit CPU and Android will soon abandon the 32 bit architecture complitly (my opinion).
Untill then we are safe.
I expect to see Nougat custom ROMs very quickly, eventually, CM14 nightlies, but I expect that there will never be an official Nougat update for the OnePlus One.
Does this apply to other phones having the SD 801 too? I'm planning to buy the Zuk Z1 which has a SD 801. If the OPO receives CM14, is there a possibility of the Zuk Z1 receiving CM14 too?
Even if OPO doesn't get official update, the fan base of this phone and the impact it did to both 1+ and Cyanogen, I think we will still find a way to get nice and crisp Nougat experience. But who knows. Time will tell

How does this work? Do you still have to root and get custom recovery? Is there a history of this os?

As this is our first release of our OS, there is not much on the internet about us. We will be launching a website shortly. We also are partnering with many tech sites for news coverage when the OS is ready for a full public release. Sorry if I got you nervous or skeptical.
Thank you
The survey is now closed. We thank you for your amazing support. The first beta will be sent out to you guys in coming weeks.

twrp is NOT stable at all, especially for backups. and FYI the OP has a history of claiming to make roms that never appear. i remember him from the moto devices.
Just coming to Android with the Pixel after using iPhone since the beginning, I seem to have missed a whole bunch of things. What is up with the lack of any dev going on for this device? Has Google made security changes or something, waiting for dev seems to be like waiting for an iOS jailbreak.

Works damn well for me to flash kernel and rom. For me the backup isn't needed but works. It's a Google device like nexus before so I'm okay with experimental stages. I don't remember him from anything else but was guessing it was bogus just based on the time and weird intro. Don't really care. In a bit more developers will have the device, the system will get sorted so TWRP is flawless and we will be up and running. My phone is much faster than my wife's s7 so I'm content for now.

well despite it being one of the best devices on the market there are probably many reasons the dev scene is kinda quiet on the pixel.
1. its a super expensive device compared to others in its range. personally i finance mine from verizon and use on at&t go.
2. were waiting on a stable twrp which is being worked on.
3. most pixels and xl are on backorder until jan 2017.
4. it could have something to do with the A and B boot slots.
the device runs great stock rooted. hopefully more aosp based roms will come in time.

Even G4 plus had received june security patch but not the Z Play!

Even the mid- low end Moto G4 Plus received June Security Patch but not so in the Z Play.
And it's due to the upcoming 7.1.1 update for the Z Play which includes June Security Patch also.
It's already july 7, So when will we get 7.1.1?
Is there any news about when it's releasing?
Because due to that monthly updates are also stopped!

Evwn it's great that Motorola/Lenovo is still providing updates to its devices in time.
Just giving me sentences support.
You should calm down. You're complaining about everything, even contacting Moto for ridiculous things like rounded icons.
Device is quite old, z2 is out but z1 is still getting updates. Slight delay is not reason to panic or opening a new topic.
Btw, how you're going to survive when Moto really ends support?

Point!
If things go the way they should. Google's 8.0 release will introduce an API at kernel level (project treble) so that phone manufacturers who get the the altered source from soc vendors can build their source on top of soc source more quickly. This will make OTAs quicker to release. But knowing every company is just going for profits they'll still drop old devices at the same rate.
This feature comes just for new devices (maybe witz Z3, Z3 Play and so on), but not with the 2017 line. If we want this, we should wait to 2018 devices. Maybe we get 8.0, but not with all features.
