Hey,
is it possible to unlock the phone with fingerprints without having to lock the phone with pins or something?
The only reason for me using the fingerprint unlock is that it's the quickest and easiest way of unlocking the phone.
I don't need/ want the extra "security".
I think no, but why would you wan't to disable PIN since you don't need to use it?

So, what happens that time you just can't get the fingerprint to unlock?
The PIN/Pattern is there for that eventuality.
If need be it's there for someone else to unlock if there is an emergency and you can't use your fingerprint.

To clarify things: I want no unnecessary "security".
Just fingerprint unlock and swiping to unlock.
When I tap on notifications, I want them to open up immediately instead of asking for pin or anything.

If I'd disable the pin, it would also disable the fingerprint unlock. But I just want fingerprint and swipe to unlock.
I don't want the pins or anything else to block the unlocking when I double tap on a notification.
Wait, if you have swipe to unlock (to access your notifications), why would you need fingerprint access? You (or anyone else) could just double tap your notifications to see them and then have full access to your system.
Outside of the first unlock after a reboot, you can just use your fingerprint to unlock when you see the PIN screen (such as when double tapping a notification).
Either way though, the answer is "No." You cannot have fingerprint authentication without a PIN/Pattern lock on any Android (or iOS device for that matter). The systems won't allow it.

If you have both fingerprint unlock and pin enabled you only need to enter your pin the first time after boot. After entering it that one time you will be able to unlock your screen with fingerprint only until you reboot the phone again. Entering the pin once isn't that much of an inconvenience.
I think its really required to have a backup security when using a fingerprint to unlock the phone. Though you just have to unlock it once with pin and then fingerprint all the way!

I am amazed by the fact that no one else than you actually understood what I want and what the problem is.
Even after clarifying...
I guess I'll ask for it in the xposed module requests section.

The problem is still that I want swipe + fingerprint.
I don't use the fingerprint as security. I use it to unlock it quicker.
I use the pattern. And I don't want others to be locked out of my phone. And I don't want to say what my pattern is all the time.
And I want to be able to open a notification just by a double tap.
It's inconcovient to use double tap AND fingerprint to open a simple notification.
Xposed isn't going to help at all in this case. Sorry, but the API (Application Program Interface) that deals with fingerprints is very strict in what it can/can't do and that's by design. This cannot be modified.
Your best option is to use something like Smart Lock, where you can have the phone automatically unlock when connected to a trusted Wi-Fi, Bluetooth device, or even carrying the phone.

Haha thanks, but they also have their points. You really need a backup security method if you're using biometric unlocking. For example, you're using a fingerprint, iris scanner, or face recognition, it is really required to have a backup "secured" "in-screen" unlocking method for your phone. It means that, when your biometric scanners broke for some reason, you have other way to unlock it.
Its a no brainer for the developers to allow fingerprint for unlocking then if it fails, you just have to swipe the phone to unlock. Unless its really for speed of, I guess, half a second of your life. It's really an essential feature, because in a case when your phone gets stolen, the thief can just break the scanner or just try it a lot until it requires you to just "unsecured" swipe it up. So I'll advice you to just use half a second of your life to unlock a pattern (the easiest and fastest other way). You just have to swipe at least 4 dots and then your phone is now secured the easiest and fastest way.
I think what he meant was that he wants to unlock his phone with the home button as an unlock button, and without any fingerprint security. Am I right?
Let me correct myself. Literally no one understood what I mean.
Just close this thread if possible. I'm not writing anymore.
We did understand what you are wanting to do; we've just said that it is not possible.

This is exactly what OP wants, convenience without security.
But since it can't be done, the next best thing is remove security and double tap to wake up.
you will need two commits

Hello
Is it possible on the Nexus 6p to use the finger print scanner to unlock apps with the finger print scanner on the phone without using it to lock the phone and having to setup the PIN lock?
If you mean that you'd like to have an app that locks certain apps and unlock it with the fingerprint scanner, you should try FingerSecurity. You can set which apps are locked by the app and you can then use the fingerprint scanner to unlock them.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rickclephas.fingersecurity&hl=en
You can join the Beta to get Nexus 6P support. Works great.
and without any app?
just using the F.P to wake the screen up or lock it?

I don't understand what are you saying.
With Nexus 6P you just have to touch the fingerprint sensor without touching any button and the screen will wake.
Android doesn't have a functionality to put a fingerprint lock to open a certain app. For that you will have to use the link above.
i wish, but

in order to activate FP, it demands another locking feature.
i'd upload a screenshot, but it's not in english

Yes and that is how it works with every device ever.
No device will allow you to have only fingerprint security (if you mean that you want to make it impossible to unlock your phone without your f.p) because modern (6.0+) Android phones would be thrown into the garbage if your f.p. sensor stops working properly. (the system encryption will be fu*ked cause it requires a pin)

It says: fp with linw/password/code.
No option for "just" fp.
Android 7.1.1
Just like what was said above, there is no option for just fingerprint. You need to have a backup way of unlocking your device. So if you get your fingers chopped off, fingerprint sensor fails, etc. you could still unlock your phone with a pin/password/pattern.

so what mihovil13 said:

is not correct?
just the FP isn't enough
oh! finally i got it.
forget the last question. everything's great
Any way to disable the swipe up required before getting to the pattern unlock? Ideally I'd like to wake the phone and have the pattern unlock screen be the first thing that comes up. I am rooted and have xposed as well, so if anyone has any tips on how to get rid of that extra step, I'm all ears
Not natively.
GravityBox has an option called Direct Unlock under Lockscreen Tweaks. "Shows security challenge directly when screen turns on". So no more swipe up then enter pin. Also, there's an option in here to Quick Unlock upon entering the correct pin without having to hit "enter". And my favorite Imprint mode "Wake and unlock", which unlocks the phone directly from the fingerprint reader, no other steps required.

I stumbled across that late last night. Definitely achieves what I'm looking for, just a shame it hides the clock as well. I'm running the setting you mentioned, just trying to find a way to keep the clock on the screen
Why not use Imprint then?

I'm more of a fan of the pattern, but then again this is my first phone where the fingerprint sensor is easily accessible with a case on (coming from a line of samsungs, once you put a case on them the fingerprint scanner was worthless). Maybe I'll go that route
I'm on a 6P as well, but I'm running nougat. So is there a solution without using gravity box, as nougat is not compatible with xposed yet? I am currently rooted using magisk, so hopefully there is a mod I am unaware of for that I can use to bypass this.

Why would you want that???
Pin lock is just a backup if the fingerprint unlock is not working.
When you put your finger on the homebutton it's scanning your finger and unlocking your phone, it's not a lockscreen bypass, at all.
Your phone is working like it should, a mod can close this thread
Edit: misunderstanding

Not actually miss understhanding , maybe I couldnt explaine good.
I mean when Im using fingerprint to unlock on my phone. When I wake the phone with power button if I dont use my finger to unlock when I slide up .. phone unlock.. if I dont use my finger how phone going to unlock pin already setted.
I must be cant unlock but if I dont use fingerprint to unlock.
I think you have smart lock option ON. Turn it OFF in settings-->security&fingerprint.
Also it is hard to read your English, please translate it from Google Translate and then paste.

Wow, you got some amazing decrypting skills
I recently bought an essential phone and set up a passcode, fingerprint, and face unlock. I prefer to unlock my phone with faceunlock (I have it set up with Autoinput making it the fastest method out of the three to unlock my phone) however my phone usually defaults to fingerprint unlock and rarely Face unlock, and I can't do both at once. Is there any way to make FaceUnlock my default?
Mine behaves this way too. Are you on pie?

I'd like to keep fingerprints to use with App Lock and such but without using the lockscreen. Any way to keep them?
I also want this, so it works like a password for apps
but I don't like to unlock my phone at all, just swipe on the lockscreen
I searched a lot, found another thread someone wanted this too
but nobody understood him, they thought he wants only Fingerprint without pin?
but why is it not possible to use Fingerprint (and backup pin or password) ONLY for applock, and not on the lockscreen

In addition to the FP, use on body detection and face unlock.
That should reduce if not eliminate the need to unlock the phone manually.

But then I can't swipe on the lockscreen, there's no lock at all, so if I was previously in whatsapp I would be instantly online, instead of just reading messages on the lockscreen

Try using the app No Lock :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.jraf.android.nolock&hl=en_US
I don't use the FPR,or,any lockscreen for that matter,so,IDK if this will work.
I used it on other phones where you had to use at minimum a swipe to open & it bypassed that requirement, perhaps it'll do the same in this situation.

Thanks for the suggestion. Tried it, but still have to swipe to get in. I'm not sure of other OS' but TouchWiz allowed for it. I'll write OnePlus Dev's to hopefully include it on an update. Also, native rear flash notification since we don't have a led for it.
