Hi I am having issue with a device which I bought and can not return. The nvidia shield pro 500GB is stuck in fastboot mode.
Every time I turn the device off and on all I get is the options you get in fast boot.
I have tried to boot recovery kernel, force recovery etc and I just get the same screen again.
I have tried to unlock the device to see if I can flash with factory rom but having no luck. When trying to unlock using ADB Fastboot I get a error on screen eventually saying can not unlock.
Error says (bootloader) Device cannot be unlocked.
OKAY [41.012s]
Finished. Total time 41.012s
I can see the device when I run the command Fastboot devices.
Any suggestions would be great. Thank you

Please be more specific, exactly what did you do before it got stuck in fastboot and what were or are you trying to do
I bought the nvidia shield from a auction so I haven't a clue what was done before. When I switched it on it would go straight to the boot menu and no further.
Ideally I just want to get the device to a state where it boots into the android software.

my guess is someone messed it up previously and you should get the Nvidia 5.2 version flash that and then let it update to 6.0
Is it possible to flash without unlocking the bootloader?

did you follow the tutorial? are your drivers updated? do you see shield in your device manager on your pc?
I followed a tutorial, I've done it before so kinda have a idea.
The device does show up in device manager, shows as android bootloader interface.
Although not sure how upto date the drivers are.

I have seen a couple people use windroid to unlock their bootloader when they ran into problems but I have no experience in that, it really sounds like the os is gone< i have had similar experience where I could get into recovery, but it would do absolutely nothing no matter what I tried, I had to rma . I know nvidia ssays if the device shows up as apx then its hardware failure
I'll give windroid a try, when you did a rma did nivida not question what had happened ?
Is there anyway I could clone another a hard drive from another nvidia with os on the drive?

No they dont ask what happened you just tell them the problem and they run you through some steps depending on the problem and if that doesnt work they start the rma process, You can clone another drive but from what I hear netflix thats installed on the shield wont work because its console specific I believe
Looks like windroid didn't work either.
Will speak to nvidia at some point next week to see what they say. Thank you for your help & reply much appreciated.

Hi
Tried to flash a new kernel and all seemed ok (flashed phones and nexus 7 few times now) when I came out of flashing I hit a bootloop, I though nothing of it and tried to restart....same issue, so next I tried to go into cw recovery, no joy, it will not show again.
I can power/vol keys to android fastboot screen with start power restart boot and so on but if I choose recovery nothing happens, I am stuck with either a bootloop or stuck on android fastboot screen and not able to move from either.
I have tried the toolkit and most other things but the problem is it cannot see my nexus 7, even after installing drivers and so on the toolkit (top right) does not list my nexus as found, because of this I cannot reflash any stock firmware/recover/reflash cwr.
Not sure how I can get around this if my pc cannot see the nexus 7.
Thanks for any help

Hi
I cannot flash anything. On the fastboot screen I can scroll up and down powr off/start/recovery....if I choose any (apart from power off) nothing happens.
When I hook it up to my pc it cannot see it, nexus 7 toolkit also cannot see it, it does not list it as found so I cannot flash anything on to it, if I try it just says waiting for device, tried other things and same thing either waiting for device or asks if fastboot installed.

Thanks....but still get waiting for device, thats the problem, nothing seems to see it so I cannot flash anything to it.
You are already at the bootloader screen. Use your computer to fastboot flash a new kernel. Being able to get into recovery has nothing to do with it. You screwed it up flashing a kernel. Its likely thats all you need to fix it. Flash a new one with fastboot.

Hey man, how did you get your computer to recognize your device? Would be great to finally fix mine as this is the same exact problem -- computer doesn't recognize it even though in fastboot.

I don't understand exactly what you are trying to do, sorry: you said the pc does not see the nexus, "even thought in fastboot".. If you say even thought, it seems to me that you are able to access Android itself or maybe recovery? In that case I can't see the issue.. Sorry my fault, non english mother tongue
But, if have the device soft bricked and you are able to enter ONLY the bootloader (that is what we call often fastboot), then you should start to remove the not working fastboot drivers installed into your PC: launch the nexus in fastboot mode, go to Device Manager into your PC and search for a driver with an yellow exclamation point. This issue is very common so I hope that you have it, too.. So, uninstall that driver, then unlink the nexus from your PC; after a few seconds attach it to another USB port and see if Windows install a driver (it should). If this new driver doesn't work, too, or if Windows does no install any, try this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426502
Hope it helps, let us know, see you!
EDIT: also, if you still have no luck, you should find a Linux or Mac PC/laptop and download the adb/fastboot binary files for that OS; this will definitively solve your driver issue ( @#ò#@!"@# Winzozz )

Hi sorry for not being clear. Basically I am only allowed to access the bootloader and my device is soft-bricked. I'm pretty sure I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers about a year ago when I originally did it, but I'll try again and let you know. Thanks!
Hi there, I've been browsing through the threads related to unbricking of the Nexus 6P stuck in qualcomm hs-usb qdloader 9008 mode, really desperate to get my device working again if even possible however I've tried for about four days now different ways and files and I've had no luck.
My bootloader is locked and no ADB etc managed to get my device showing as the 9008 port so I think it's stuck in EDL.

Use a hairdryer to warm up the back of the phone.
Are you pulling my leg? Warm it up then reflash?
nah im not trying to make you destroy your phone, being rather serious with this method. i use it on a daily basis to solve phones that fail during restoring factory images. i wouldn't know how long to give it with a hair dryer as i have access to a heat gun/heat mats .
just think of it as a cheap mans re balling method

thank you so much that worked, it has said flash successful, first time I got a google logo but now nothing, what would be my next step please?
if the bootloader is unlocked then you can directly flash the firmware. but if its not google "nexus ota" and then on your phone jump into the recovery and check the firmware model number and download the same ota and adb sideload it.
im not 100% sure on the next step as I've never had a nexus 6p with a dead bootloader. but thats what id do.
---------- Post added at 04:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:49 PM ----------
but from my personal experience with having to heat a phone up to restore factory images, it kinda means the phone is nearing the end of its life and id start thinking about buying your next phone before it sh*ts the bed.

yeah can you access the bootloader at all ? does it say that the bootloader is locked ? from trying to restore LG's it sometimes has to be re heated a few times, but yeah if you need to re heat it to get further into the phone then its pretty much a lost cause. the only reason i do it is to remove the data so we can resell the device.

Hello....
How did you manage to get in to EDL mode..? I'm really curious. With stock bootloader? Since you can't access recovery
Also what is exactly displayed in Windows device manager?
You are using an outdated QFil version... It is from 2014 àr 2015.
Do a google search with: QPST_2.7.453.0 . This version seem to be from 2016.
Use the first link from the result. I analysed the files with virustotal, those seem clean or malware...
Also when plugging your usb cord to your PC, does your phone vibrate? Or does the LED blink in red?
You may have to press power button when plugging the usb cord or press power button for a certain amount of time before you plug the usb cord. I'm not completly sure, but your phone may not be in the "proper" EDL state to accept the QFil flash.
Good luck... :good:
Is it possible to send me the guide you used? Thanks.

Hey there sorry for slow replies, will be back on my desktop in an hour I'll send you links for what I followed and such, I think the only reason my device was in EDL mode was due to a hardware fault? As my device is faulty indefinitely as I had to use a hairdryer to warm it up while flashing this then allowed it to enter firehose state which a lot of people seem to error with - after all my attempts and research I'm to velieve there's a fault with the phone itself the only way I could get it to even power up was applying heat to it after removing the back panel
As blackcell said deballing or something? Worked a treat!
Furthest I've managed to get now is into my boot loader however everything is locked - when I press enter recovery my handset just freezes ?

Hello!
THink I have bricked my phone, but just checking before I go through what I suppose is a long process with oneplus.
Looking for any help. I had a working device - unlocked bootloader and installed TWRP and magisk using MauronofrioTool. ok - however, I found out I couldn't use a fingerprint security option on that would have been anoying. So... Long story short. I used MauronofrioTool to relock bootloader. Oops - so that didn't work. THen found out I couldn't do anything except stare at g.co/ADH message on my screen. Couldn
't get to fastboot or TWP. ANyway, so I managed to up and down volume and enter into TWRP. Was still connecting to the tool, so I downloaded factory Zips and tried to install via tool after unlocking - Seemed to be working ... but it stopped mid way through a process and hasbn't come back! NOthing at all. I wonder if I could have triggered an OEM thing? ANyway - literally nothing no buttons work no screen action. I see a QUSB_BULK_CID:etc number when connecting the phone, but that is it. No fast boot or any other actions available.
PLease, pretty devastating, Anyone know if I can do anything?
I'm no pro but I use this tool which helped me:

Thank you. I feel I am little past this stage now though.. Also trying the brick reprieve software . Just can't get my computer to recognise the phone now. No ability to get to emergency download path - think it is my crappy cihinese pc (old Huawei tablet basically) or Windows via apple that have me stranded.
**********SOLVED
THe crappy Chinese language Windows tablet worked as the unbrick OP said WIndows would. Must be a kink in the Windows via Mac that could get me into the situation, but not out.
Very relieved... Even though I still am not 100% sure what I actually ended up clicking to get it to register and connect with the unblock tool (which of course was in Chinese) hahaha.
Cheers
CHeers though
Glad you got it sorted out! Cheers
Need Help, please
Just received my OnePlus 8 pro, decided to Root and unlock the bootloader---this went fine.
I then went and upgraded to Android 11 DP3.
I'm now only able to get into Fastboot. at points it will try to boot but only get to the logo screen and then goes black.
When the phone boots up, it goes to Qualcomm CrashDump Mode.
I've been attempting to solve this for half the day with no luck. I've tried Msmtool, but it doesn't recognize the device, even after loading drivers again.
Is there a way to load a ROM from fastboot mode?
Hoping someone can assist, this is super frustrating and I would appreciate any help, please.

Rick

Thanks so much. I ended up getting Msmtool to work. Although my device wasn't on (black screen) and it didn't fully show up in the tool, I decided to start the process anyway and it began to load.
I've been on here for over 10 yeas (XDA) I've just lost my account info and made a new one.
Thanks for taking the time to respond. Much appreciated.
I have read through no less than six different instructional threads I've probably watched 10 videos I've installed more software on my PC and my tablet that I know what to do with and I cannot get this tablet to root.
I'm not exaggerating when I say I probably have 20 hours into this project so far and just it will not work.
I am desperate for any help at all.
Does this mean anything to anybody?
This thing will NOT!! unlock the oem lock. I have toggled in developer options a hundred times restarted a hundred more times... USB debugging toggled off and on restart restart restart
WTF!!!!!!!!!!!
There is a command you have to run in fastboot after you toggle oem unlock, I'm guessing something similar to others, but I'm not very familiar yet as I just got this tablet
If you figure out the command, can you please let me know. I can't root this POS tablet.
it ended up fully bricked

to unlock the OEM you unlock the developer option by clicking seven times on the build number, then you must connect the device to wifi, then OEM will appear if the bootloader is unlocked, for this: Turn off the device, hold volume + and volume - together and connect the usb. press volume + for a long period and then unlock the bootloader.
I had trouble with this too. The trick ended up being plugging in the USB cable while holding down the buttons.
I just payed OneClickRoot like $40 to root it for me and saved the chat and all the commands he ran in the CMD Prompt and i still have all the files he had me download if anyone needs them. I had Android 11 on mine.

SURE DO!!
I actually ran into a more unusual problem.
I have twrp flashes in Recovery and lineage in system. But I think I wiped the boot by accident. Because its only going to recovery. If anyone can tell me where I can find the boot.img or any other suggestions to fix the boot, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
(I did try to use Odin to flash BL and all but it is giving "SW Rev fail" and some binary error.)
If anyone wants the files I saved just let me know and I'll send a link to them saved in my Google Drive.
Thanks. I was able to flash stock firmware. If anyone needs help. You can message me.

You also needed to hold all the buttons at startup to boot into the real bootloader and then unlock it and then go into download mode. I have a SM-T290 fully rooted and working. You need some knowledge to have a good chance for it to work. Also root checker says i used the "hard" method.

It depends on of you want to take the risk yourself. I did, and it actually ended up working well.
