Hi
So after looking through other threads it seems that the A5 WiFi issue is known problem that I can't find a proper fix for.
I have an A5 SM-A510F baseband A510FXXU4CQH2 that is always searching for a network that kills my battery life, Samsung have offered no help at all (typical) I have heard that an update could of caused this or that fast charging heats the battery too fast and thus damages the mainboard, in any case I have changed the location settings which had no affect, reset network settings, full reset both ways, changed router channels (no affect as suspected) done everything apart from a dancing around the phone with a four leaf clover
Anyone ever find a proper permanent fix for this issue? booked in for a repair free of charge but I can't see Samsung actually doing anything as it has never had an iffy ROM or Custom ROM I did use Smart Switch to re-install the Stock ROM and never been dropped or had water damage, pretty stumped at the mo.
Cheers
Mine stopped working today! no wifi on my phone, galaxy a5 2016

Have you checked advanced wifi settings so that always scan for network option is disabled?
You can also check location settings so that google won't scan for wifi network.

Yes mate did that already, it does beg the question if fast charging is so good then why have the option to turn it off, maybe they know it's bad for the phones circuitry
**Update**
Phone went to Anovo for repair and when I spoke to the guy he said no faults were found, he also only mentioned about over heating and not about Wi-Fi or 4G connection problems which tells me he most likely only took down the details from Tesco mobile who did not seem to understand what I was saying, I suppose some people just can't understand technical stuff and only hear what they want to hear, a letter that I enclosed with all of the details of the fault/s seems to have been totally ignored, just have to wait now until I get it back and see what condition it arrives back in, I have read some real horror stories about Anovo which also has a knock on effect for retailers.
Anovo need to be dropped like a stone IMHO
***update***
So Anovo are utter liars, phone was sent to them as that's where Tesco have things sent, they said they checked everything etc, total and utter lies told to Tesco by Anovo as when I spoke to them they only checked the battery and aks me for more time to check the phone again, these b*stards need to stop telling lies to Tesco. (so fing mad right now)

Half a year ago i returned my HD2 because it had terrible issues (constant restarts / freezes while using anything related to heavy network traffic - streaming videos, browsing for more than 5 minutes etc). After waiting for 1 month they returned it to me with a "changed motherboard" (at least thats what the people in the shop said). Basically most of the stuff inside was changed, except the phone panel.
I was really happy and i almost immediately installed HSPL and a cooked rom. Everything was fine so far. At some point i noticed, that my phone isnt detecting any WiFi networks at all. At first i thought that its because of the ROM i installed, but i used mostly 3G so it took me some time to notice that it isnt working.
1 Month ago i noticed that my Bluetooth isnt working at all as well.
Finally i found some time to uninstall HSPL and i returned everything back to normal. Im with the old 1.66 rom for my region so everything is as it should be. Still no WiFi networks, and there are like 10 in rage (i checked with my notebook).
I searched google / this forum for 2 hours straight but i couldnt find anything. Usually i would return the phone to the service again, but in 10 days or so i will be moving to a different country where i will be studying for 5 months.
Any suggestions what it might be? If there is any way to fix the problem without returning the phone to get it serviced again i would be really happy.
Thanks!
Edit: I also tried the new 3.14 ROM, no change
Sorry man but it sounds like you have a hardware issue. I don't think you will find a software fix for your problem. I know it sucks but I would send it in for repairs.

Hi everyone!
I bought a used N4 off ebay and received it last week .. I have yet to get any sat locks. I read about aGPS not working with LTE and since I did the LTE mod. I decided to try the latest radio and I still dont get any locks *aGPS worked*. I went on a hour long drive yesterday and not once did I get a lock with the latest radio. I changed my NTP server to a US based one. I also tried several different kernels *including stock* each with a full wipe in between
Anyone have any ideas for me to try?
I was told the back was replaced so I wonder if that may be causing a issue? also have a issue with my wifi range that I'll make a separate thread for.
Thanks for at least reading!
Ebay listing said this "This phone has a replacement back glass WITHOUT wireless charging or NFC capabilities." which I dont really care about just want to be able to use gps , HTC ONE s and Sensation had awesome GPS maybe im just spoiled

Did you try another rom or even revert to stock to get off of LTE?
Edit: I am on LTE and I get sat locks without an issue. Maybe the you are missing the antennaes for gps as well?
Going back to complete stock
Using this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
I'll test the gps on my way home from work in a few minutes.
Hoping it will work.
Using bone stock rom/kernel/ect. I was able to get a lock in at 10 meters in the parking lot but when I started driving it lost gps signal and then was like 120 meters *aGPS*.... so I'm going with my gps chip may be defective or the back that this guy used is interfering with the gps signal.
Also I noticed while running maps all the way home with GPS enabled/running it got real hot on the upper middle back of the phone , right next to the camera. Way hotter then it does if im playing games for a hour+
My regular phone reception is good though its probably a little stronger then my HTC One S.
Anyone have any ideas I should try?
First of all, hello ! I'm new around here and I just stumbled upon a problem I guess on my new phone ( the L5 II E460 ) so I decided to ask your opinion on this one cause I don't have that big knowledge about smartphones and androids to be honest
The thing is: Sometimes when I use the wi-fi connection home and toggle between the 3G data connection from once in a while the 3G Data stops working. The wi-fi connects back without no issues but if I switch to data it won't show the 3G sign up or H and I can't access anything unless I restart the phone, then everything goes back to normal ( to be honest this happened to me only twice and I have the phone since a month but it's still frustrating and first I thought my phone may be broken but after a little google search I found out that many people have this problem )
What other solutions are to stop this " problem " or whatever it is to occur again ?
Thanks.

I toggled multiple times just to try what you reported but it didn't happen to me.
Did you update your firmware? I also recommend also a full-wipe:
1 Turn the power off.
2 Press and hold the Power/Lock key + Volume Down key + QuickButton.
3 When the LG Logo appears on the screen, release all keys.
I didn't do any firmware update atm, it's still the Jelly Bean 4.1.2
It doesn't happen often, only from time to time and the airplane mode on and off toggle seems to resolve the problem so I'm guessing there is some problem between the wifi and data settings sometimes.

Do the update (through software update in your phone). It stays at Jelly Bean 4.1.2 it's just an update to it. Maybe it solves your problem, as it may have been a known bug. I've updated and I don't have your problem, maybe it was solved. Also do a full wipe afterwards.
Ditto... almost!

I have the LG-E460 (L5 MkII) and JB 4.1.2 updated to May 28th 2013. It is just 10 days old so I have 4 days left to decide to keep or return. This is my 1st ever smartphone, so I am without any doubt a NOOB in more ways than one.
If I understand correctly, my problem seems to be similar. If I am updating the weather, twitter or facebook etc, using my home wi-fi, every now and then I get a message "Network Unavailable", despite FULL signal on my network, and the only way to restore it is to turn Wi-Fi off, then on.
It seems to work just fine by leaving Wi-Fi off, thereby using the mobile data permanently.
Could this possibly be anything to do with the type of network in use? ie, WPA2-PSK etc?
Regards to all,
Mike

I experience wi-fi connection losses too, but not that often and I can live with it. If it's too often for you, return the phone as it is a bug. Others have reported it too (see the lg uk website for our phone).

This is, sadly, the conclusion I have come to. Apart from this one issue, I love the phone and it was the only unit at this monthly price-point that, in reviews anyway, was any good! The other handsets were Samsung Galaxy Ace, HTC Desire C and Huawei Ascend Y201.
I know reviews are not always the best way to choose but, out of the four, the L5 seemed to be "the one" for me, particularly after reading users reviews and studying the spec. sheets for all.
I'm trying to save money, not spend more, so the L5 will have to stay. Because it is new to me, I'm using it WAY more than is normal, just to get to know it, so in normal use I can probably put up with it.
Thank you for letting me rant on; and thank you for a great site.
Best regards, to all,
Mike

Well, I haven't found a cure, but I have found a way round it!
It would appear to be WPA that's causing the intermittent, but common, "No Connection" message... I changed to WEP and it has now been perfect for over 24 hours.
I think I've got this right: in WEP a "key" is only sent at the outset! With WPA, a key is generated every so often and it must be that which is upsetting the L5 and causing it to "have a fit"
Any thoughts would be welcome... I do know the pitfalls of using WEP, but it has proved a point... at least I think it has.
Regards,
Mike
So I have done some research about this issue already and there doesn't seem to be a definite answer around so maybe this thread can clear things up for me. Anyways I have a Note 4 on T-Mobile, and I use Waze, a lot, and I rarely ever get a GPS lock, it usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes before I get one and then when I do, it will skip around or my location will "teleport". So people have said to use the app "TopNTP" and this seems to help slightly, but it still takes forever to lock. I have used multiple GPS reconfiguration apps and this seems to be the only one that helps slightly. I have also done the usual, factory reset, reset app settings, root, unroot, custom and stock rom, and nothing seems to work. I also know that its not just my location because I used to have an HTC One M8 that worked flawlessly, and to top it off, a friend of mine has a Note 4 with the same issue. I would just like to know if this is happening to other people and if there is a way to fix it. Another thing I saw floating around the internet was some guy put a piece of copper tape inside the back cover of his and it seemed to give him a stronger signal. I don't know if this is a cruel joke or not but I am honestly probably going to go to home depot and try this because I just don't know what else I could possibly try besides getting a new phone, so any help is appreciated.

I have the same issue. In doing some research there are A LOT of others in the same boat. I had GPS issues with my Note 3 and now the NOTE 4 is a POS as well. I am probably going to get another (NOT SAMSUNG) device and return this as defective and sell the replacement.
Sorry to hear about your problem. I have a Note 4 N910F international. I have been using navigation driving around texas for a few days now without problem. It locks immediately when I enable gps. Have you tried turning on mobile data or wifi if you are in range? This will help with quicker position acquisition.
My problem with Note 4 is poor LTE receprion eventhough my 2 S4' s get full bars.
Hoping someone may have some advice, myself and two friends managed to bag an amazingly good deal for a Tab A 10.1 with o2 UK (£52 in total), problem being we're all having wifi issues.
One friend requested a replacement and the replacement has the same issue too, so thats 4 tablets in total.
The issue is wifi just seems to randomly stop working, it shows a full signal but you can't access any sites or play store or stream anything etc. You then have to either wait until it decides to work again or manually turn wifi off and back on at which point it carries on as normal for however long it decides to work for. Rinse and repeat.
I bought it basiclly as a streaming device and I can't use it because eveeything buffers constantly due to the wifi issue so I'm back using my old iPad.
I spoke to samsung support yesterday and they said it's a known softeare issue but no idea when the update to fix it will be released, I'm two days out of my 14 day return window so I can't return it.
There's a samsung store not far so will take it in tomorrow to be checked over but I thought I'd ask here as I'm new to android, so imagine there's people here far more knowledgable than me and may have some ideas I could try. I've already tried a factory reset and rebooting my router, I have virgin media so have tried both 2ghz and 5ghz network types. Non of which has helped. My friends have different ISP's to me so can't be a VM issue either.
Any advice is appreciated
Thanks
Have you updated your the latest firmware?
Incidentally this happens on the Tab A 7 too. No idea when Samsung will/if fix it either.
Might be worth trying a static ip address.

Thanks for the reply,
I took it to the samsung service centre today they did a software rebuild and have set a static IP address, so will see how it goes over the next few days.

Let us know how it goes.
Well it's improved some, b ut still not what I'd call stable. And I'm not sure if the improvement has come from the software reflash or the static ip address.
Take that back, still just as crap.

I don't know if it's the driver module or the actual wifi hardware that's causing the issue, but it is annoying.
I haven't bothered tracing the issue because I don't use my Tab A enough to let it bother me.
If you could pull the logcat when it happens, it might give an idea what's going on.
I recommend the syslog app.

Apologies I'm not familiar with that app, so have no idea if I've done this correctly.
I installed syslog and tried to stream something on BBC iPlayer, the issue occured immediately so I went into syslog and saved the log. Have attached the logcat.
Again, apologies if I've not done it correctly I've never used the app before, if it's not right please just let me know how to correctly capture the log and i'll do it again.
Thanks.
Well I give up. I can't think of anything else to do.
I requested a replacment in the end because the wifi issue is so bad, the replacement has the exact same issue. So that's 5 out of 5 with the same issue.
Samsung support are utterly useless, they say it's a software issue and will be fixed with an update but have no idea when or if that update will be released. I had hoped the update the tablet received yesterday would have helped but nope.
So far I've restored to factory, cleared the cache, reset my router, taken to the service centre for a software rebuild - non of that helped, so I requested a replacement, which has the exact same issues.
Can't say I'm impressed with samsung. Will be avoiding in future!
i'm having the same issue. have to return it - can't use it for work if the vpn is dropping every two minutes. there are a number of posts here and elsewhere on this - like this one.
i'm sure that there are lots of frustrated customers and lots of soon-to-be refurbished devices. i'm returning mine (sadly).
btw, i also had this issue on my old 2014 tablet (SM-P600) and it cleared up once i moved to a custom ROM. i'm assuming samsung fixed it eventually but new devices have same issue. samsung is doing something weird and wrong to be shipping so many devices with flawed wifi.
my note 8 does not have this issue at all. happily connects and stays connected anywhere, anytime.

Having 5 tablets with the exact same symptoms says to me that it isn't a hardware problem. If each tablet has the same OS version, it only makes sense to try another version. I'd go to the Sammobile site and download the latest firmware from a couple of different regions and install them with Odin.
There is an app on Play called WIFI Fixer by Zanshin-g1.
It completely fixed the wifi connection issues on my Tab A.
