Adamptive Mode & YouTube App - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi everyone,
I've just notice that the white balance setting in the adaptive mode (i've set it up to have the screen less "yellowish") doesn't take effect on the YouTube app.
It works in every other apps (stock or installed) but not in YouTube.
Have you noticed the same?
Thanks.

[Q] Youtube app, built-in auto-brightness?

while i was watching a video on Youtube on my Nexus 7, my connection was lagging so i paused the video to let it load, and the video had a bright white background while someone's in foreground talking. I noticed the brightness went down, and i freaked out thinking it might be my screen. But then i went back to the Android home menu, and i have a live wallpaper called "Rays of Light" which displays different colored lights moving on a dark/black background with little circles floating. I didn't noticed any brightness change, nor during browsing on websites, Google Play, or games...
Now i know Jelly Bean have auto-brightness enabled by default in the system settings, but i turned this off.
I do use MX Player as well, with the brightness set to go slightly up when watching a video, but i know i can turn this off (i just might, as i hate sudden brightness changes)
What i want to know is, does the Youtube app feature auto-brightness? and we just cannot disable it? I did noticed some brightness changes in other videos as well, like when watching a game preview.
For the record, i use Glazed Jelly Bean v2.1
thanks for your replies.

Screen Turns Off while background is dark - Lenovo Tab3 8 Plus

As the title says, while I am watching a video, reddit with the black theme, feedly, youtube, even if the camera is taking pics of a dark background, the screen turns off.
I tried to set the screen brightness to manual., disabled the adaptive display feature, no go.
Anybody got any idea?

Screen On Time Increase - We are getting somewhere ! (6hrs)

Hi,
UPDATE-
Thanks to SirNamero who has the maximum screen on time on this thread period. SirNamero Has provided us with two solutions to increase SOT (screen on time) on the S8.
1) Using BK package disabler to disable some apps and services. The xml of his package disabler has been included in the thread.
2) Using greenify only to enter aggressive doze mode as soon as the screen is off instead of waiting for hours. (That may delay some notifications of some apps)
3) Using dark theme. (can be found on theme store for free).
4) Using an amoled wallpaper could be found on apps such as zedge.
Here is a screenshot of the battery life resulted by the above
https://up.3raq4all.com/uploads/nov17/1510157757111.jpg
Here lets compare how many hours each person is getting on his/her S8 screen on time. Please share screenshot of your SOT under 15% and your settings including-
Please only take part if you are on stock firmware.
1)
1) Screen time out time
2) Screen Resolution
3) Black or white theme?
4) Wallpaper type e..g. colourful or black.
5) Facebook installed or not.
Thanks I have included mine
1) Screen time out 5 mins
2) FHD
3) White theme
4) Amoled Wallpaper
5) No Facebook app
6) Instagram and snapchat are used often
7) Secure folder used often.
thanks
1. 1 minute
2. WQHD+
3. Black and gold theme
4. Black and dark grey
5. Facebook is installed
I should note that I'm on the Oreo beta. I use auto brightness. AOD, nfc, and edge lighting are disabled. Used BK package disabler to disable a lot of bloat and everything Bixby related.
1) Heavy usage (unplugged from charger when it was 95%)
2) QHD+
3) Black theme
4) pixel 2 live wallpaper
5) Messenger and Facebook apps are used all the time (the most used apps so far)
6) Instagram, snapchat, skype, WhatsApp, viber...
7) few minutes on a game
8) wi-fi only
9)fingerprint and iris are used

Hi, you seem to have a great SOT compared to the time you had the phone on. If you had it for 18 hours it would be still around 5 and half hours. could you please share with us the xml of the apps you disabled using BK package disabler so everyone benefit from your solution.
Thanks
Sure, here you go. I also disabled all of the services for these packages as well.
Edit: forgot to mention I also use Greenify solely for the aggressive doze feature (enters doze mode as soon as screen goes to sleep instead of waiting an hour or more)
I think worth mentioning is what kind of rom are people using: stock or custom, and kernel.

Thanks for including your disabled apps XML and mentioning about greenify I will put that in the main post for people to use
I just got my S8 recently and was messing around with the settings and trying to see how I could get better battery life as well. This was my best result so far. I probably could have easily hit 6 hours SOT since I had 11% left at that time.
1) Screen time out 1 min
2) FHD
3) DarkEmerald theme
4) Amoled Wallpaper
5) No Facebook app
6) No Instagram No snapchat
7) Secure folder not used.
8) Data Saver On
9) Power Saving Mode set to Mid
10) I had disabled various packages as well, using the adb debloat method.
Screen on time is so relative. Depends what you do and where you do it. Right now I'm at 6h SoT with 25% battery left. This after using my phone for 2 hours outdoor during a cloudy day. If I play Need for Speed no limits for 1 hour as I normally do my SoT will drop to 5ish hours in total. If I add to that a sunny day I'd be happy with 3.5h SoT.
I have personally used package disabler pro on a couple of Samung devices including the s8 and while it is great for disabling bloatware. I have NEVER noticed an increase in battery life / screen on time!
iPhone6plus to SamsungS8
I'm loving the new phone. But maybe it's just because it's a new toy. I miss some of the jailbreak tweaks and I'm yet to read on about rooting.
I agree SOT is dependent on use case basis. Anyway, here's my settings:
1.) 5 min
2) FHD+
3) Black theme
4) black homescreen wall and black and white lockscreen wall
5) Facebook disabled, messenger installed but haven't signed in yet
6.) Auto brightness ON
7.) AOD off
8.) mobile data off, always on Wifi, BT manually set when BT headset is being used and activity tracker is being synced
9.) manually disabled some app mobile background usae and settings
10.) added most apps to "Always sleeping apps" setting
11.) 6 email accounts all on Auto Sync schedule
12.) Location on (high accuracy)
13.) Bixby off, Gnow off
14.) No social media apps, unless you consider reddit and flickr as one
15.) Screen is set as AMOLED photo (no other reason than just trying this out when I sent photos from my mirrorless to the S8)
Dumb question, where are you finding the graph for battery usage. I can't find it. On VZW if that makes a difference.
Nvm, found it. Didn't see the button at first
Or you could try rooting. I get 6.5h sot on a daily basis. With white theme, WQHD, mobile data always on & terrible reception
Oh and only charge to 80% ?
Honestly it's such a stupid comparison. So many different factors. If I turn everything off and use lowest brightness obviously I'm going to get more sot.
Everything except bluetooth on and phone on high performance mode. Mobile data and Wi-Fi switching from time to time and I'm getting around 7 hours on stock SD S8+.
P.S. it's 7 months old.
A couple of screenshots from two different times.
The phone is the S8 international dual SIM version but only one sim was enabled at that time.
The phone is running stock.
1.) 1 min + smart stay enabled
2) FHD+
3) Black theme
4) black
5) not using any package disabler.
6.) Auto brightness ON
7.) AOD off
8.) mobile data always on, always on Wifi, BT always on, BT tethering to allow car access to internet is always on.
9.) Full power mode.
10.) 2 email accounts all on Auto Sync schedule
11.) Location on (high accuracy)
12.) Bixby on, G assist on.
13.) Both FPS and Iris Scanner enabled.
Note: I live in a very strong signal area. When on holiday in weak signal areas battery performance is abysmal.

Videos not playing full screen

It seems videos are not being played full screen on apps such as Netflix and VLC. The screen doesn't stretch past the status bar. Which is a waste of screen real estate.
It seems only YouTube can play videos full screen.

Anyone knows if there is a fix for this?

I don't think that ever worked. YouTube is the only app I could stretch fullscreen with my Pixel 3 XL too. I think it's up to the app creators to enable this.
Follow this:
- open up settings
- choose display
- full screen apps
- scroll to the youtube app and touch the youtube app and change it from auto to full
- play video and pinch to zoom
Please hit the thumbs up bottom if this works ??.
Yeah I fixed it by going to Settings -> Display -> Fullscreen Apps -> change Netflix from Auto to Full
Thanks for this. This was driving my crazy (Plex) and I'm used to seeing it full screen on my XS Max.

Samsung Galaxy S10 plus screen flicker when opening google photo app and wechat app

Hello forum,
Just got my s10 plus and it's been amazing. However, I can't ignore a problem I encountered with two apps I use daily. When I opened google photo and wechat, when they were NOT first opened, but by resuming from background, I noticed a quick screen brightness flickering, to a slightly dimmer brightness level. I'm not sure how to better describe this, but maybe it's like when opening the camera app, the screen turns brighter, but this time it goes a little bit dimmer when opening google photo and wechat.
So far, I've tested by using high performance mode and battery optimized mode (with google photo and wechat not optimized), I've tried with multiple launchers, including samsung's own one UI and nova launcher prime. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the apps, factory reset three times, played with screen brightness settings (different brightness levels), changed different themes, including samsung's default theme, default theme with dark mode, and the downloaded high contrast theme 1 & 2. None of them worked.
I've only experiencing this issue with those two specific apps, again, google photo and wechat. I haven't noticed this with other apps, like chrome, firefox. messenger, dialer, google drive, doc, extra. Please help! Thank you!
Edit: forgot to say, it's the canadian version with snapdragon qualcomm 855.
