Hi,
Voice recognition is not working any more on my OP5. For instance, if I want to speech an SMS text, I press the mike icon, the google speech box appears , but the sound is not registered. Same issue with google Assistant : "OK GOOGLE" not working any more and if I press the micro icon, a dot line appears but no result.
I checked the microphone by registring a file : it's working properly.
I have already tried an hard reset : no success.
My OP5 is not rooted and I am using the official ROM.
Thanks for your help
Settings>Apps>Tap the Gear icon top right>Tap Assist & voice input and make sure you choose Google in Assist app
Thanks for your answer. Google was correctly settled as assist app. Still not working.
I mean if you're stock, completely wiped everything, and it still doesn't work, but Mic still records... that's weird. I assume other apps like Cortana work fine?

Make sure you do a clean install.. not restore from backup. And make sure your Google privacy settings are okay.
Hi,
I fully wiped the phone. I tried with a brand new email adress. No joy !
And cortana works fine
I downloaded the update (oxygen 4.5.13 android 7.1.1). Still no joy
When I go to activities log on my google account, I can find empty audio files for each time I tried a voice recognition (search mike icon)
You are right : it's weird !!!
Update Google app, then go check through all settings to be sure everything is switched on that you need. Will also need to retrain "ok Google". I had the same problem as you, and some other voice and typing issues.

Hi,
Already tried. Impossible to achieve. When I try to register my "ok google" 3 times, it's stuck on the first trial.
Same thing if I try to speech a sms or a text.

Check your app permissions. Go to Apps, then got gear wheel in top right corner. Tap on App permissions, scroll and tap Microphone. Go through list of Apps, make sure switch is turned on for Google and any other app you may need microphone turned on for. Maybe this will help.

Sorry it didn't work. I had problems with my OP5 too with the "Ok Google" and speech to text. I looked everywhere in the phone settings and messed with Google Assistant. Even uninstalled and reinstalled Google App and Uninstalled updates to any Play store and services. Eventually, through all of this i finally got mine to work. And, i updated my Oxygen OS from 4.5.5 to 4.5.10 too. Keep trying and don't give up. Good Luck. [emoji3]

I noticed mine occasionally was working intermittently, regarding the voice typing/speech to text. I have since installed Google Now launcher and switched home launcher, to that instead of the OnePlus 5 home launcher. Now it seems to be working perfectly every time. Maybe give that a try..

Hi,
I noticed two interesting points :
. Every time I try to use Google voice recognition in an application (SMS for example), there is a short notice telling that the audio file will be registered in my google account
. When I check my activities on line in my google account, I can find short file of few seconds (with no voice) every time related to my voice recognition trials.

What sms app are you using? I have seen some sms apps show that notice, but the one I'm using right now doesn't ever show me that and it works fine.
I'm thinking you may have an issue with the sms app and/or the virtual keyboard app you're using. You may want to try another sms app and different keyboard, and check all the settings in those when you do. If it doesn't help you can always switch those apps back..

Thanks for your answer. In fact, same issue with the search app. The dot line remain still...and there is a recorded file in Google activities. I tried with différent keyboards (Google and SwiftKey). Same issue.
Well. Tonight I managed to use voice recognition with a jack headset (OK google or Google search).
So I think the issue is with the internal microphone impossible to trigger.

I just thought of something, before you try to send phone back. Take your phone out of case and turn it off. Take a can of compressed air and use the straw it comes with. Spray it in short bursts. Use it in the mic port and any other ports too. You might have gotten dust or lint in there. Then turn your phone back on and try speech recognition without the headphone plugged into the jack.

Thx, I will try. I experienced another way with Bluetooth headset. Impossible to trigger "ok google" with my voice. But after a manual trigger by pressing the icon, I can speak and voice recognition is ok.
So, to resume regarding "ok google" and general Google voice recognition :
. Internal mike : failure
. Wired headset : ok
. Bluetooth headset : no trigger, but voice recognised after.
And remember the microphone is ok for other purposes (phone, cortana, vocal message registering,...)
Seems to be a soft problem
I have the same issue. Google voice services won't register any sound. Is there any fix?

It used to be that when I opened Google Now, the search bar would say "Say 'Google' to Search". But now that option has gone away. I checked my settings and hotword detection is on, so it should be working. I have tried just saying "google" but that didn't work. I tried reverting back to an older verion of the google searchapp, but that didn't solve the problem. I'm running CM10.1 Jan 25 Nightly. It was working a week ago when I was still running CM10.1, so it may just be that something about the newer versions of CM10.1 aren't working. I've tried reinstalling the app from the play store, but that didn't fix it either, and I'm out of ideas.

The issue for me was using the voice notify app. I contacted the developer and this is what I got
"I was able to reproduce the issue and have narrowed
it down to the Accessibility feedback type for VN being set to 'spoken'. With
that, it's kind of obvious that Google Now is designed not to listen for
"Google" when an accessibility service might be speaking.
I tried to work around it by setting the feedback type to generic and only
setting it to spoken while VN speaks, but it prevented VN from speaking at all.
That said, I don't believe there is anything I can do. Probably for the best
since it's usually not a good idea to circumvent design."
So if you're not using voice notify, i'm guessing it's some other accessibility app that's screwing it up. It's very annoying.
I think the hotword also only works if your language is set to English (US). My phone is set to English (UK) and "Google" doesn't work.
on my Nexus 7 the hotword detection has never worked and I cannot figure it out.
Not working for me currently, not sure why.

I already have that setting.
Not using CM right this second, but I had this problem today. One of the keyboard/input options was "Google voice typing". When I turned that OFF, Hotword detection started working again. Just an idea.
I'm on 4.2.2 CM10.1 on S2 (i9100).
It worked like a charm, but few days back I've noticed, that despite the fact that I have the feature turned on, I am using US English, my voice recognition works perfect, it doesn't work.

I had this issue as well.
In order to make it work again:
1. Turn on Google voice typing in the keyboard setting
2. go to Google Now setting and then Voice
3. Set the language to English... and choose english (US)
You should be getting hotword recognition now.
I had this same issue and this is what I did to fix it:
In Google Now go to
Settings>Voice>Download offline speech recognition>under ALL tab select English (US)
Enjoy your Hotword detection once again! :good:

No problem. Now tell Google to do a barrel roll.
I've tried everything that's mentioned in this thread but Google Now still doesn't work by saying 'Google' I have to keep pressing the mic. Any other solution?
Today I found out that S-voice and Google Now are linked together on the Note 4. When I turned off S-voice. I couldn't do a voice search with Google now, nothing happen. So I went into Google now settings and saw that the check boxes was unchecked. I tried to recheck them; but it would let me. So I thought about it for a minute. Then I remembered I had turned off S voice. So I turned S voice back on. Sure enough , it was the cause for Google Now not working. They are now linked. One wont work with out the other.
Yea, I'm coming from the Moto X and was excited when I heard the Note 4 has that always listening capability. However, in my couple of days with it, I've found it to be very finicky and just not working when I actually need it to. When I'm testing after a reboot or changing settings, it works fine. Seems like once the phone goes into deep sleep or something it stops listening, but it is intermittent.
Are you saying that I have to turn both Google Now and S Voice on and set them both to always listening for them to work? So I'd use "Hi Galaxy" to launch S Voice and "OK Google" to launch Google Now? I'll try that and see if that makes it work more consistently.

They will still work independently; But if you go in to applications settings to turn off S-voice; Google Now voice wont work. I personally don't like S voice. I rather use Google Now voice search.
I'm also having a problem where saying "OK Google" when the screen is off will launch Google Now (I can hear the familiar beeps) but the screen doesn't turn on. S-voice seems to turn the screen on always when it works.

My Google Now works fine. In the Google now settings' it has two check boxes. One for always on and one for when locked. Do you have both of those checked? By checking both of those will allow you to activate it when the screen is locked.
Yes, I have both selected. I think it has to do with the DynamicNotification app I've installed to mimic Moto X's Active Display notifications. It messes with Google Now's ability to turn the screen on.
I have also noticed it doesn't work after a deep sleep or something. Very discouraging when your friend sees you yelling OK GOOGLE at your phone lol.

I am not a fan of S Voice. In the S Voice settings I have unchecked "open via the home key" and turned "voice wake up" off.
In the Google Now Voice settings, I checked "always on" in the "ok Google detection" section.
S Voice doesn't get in my way. I may have to retrain Google now, it keeps opening anytime I say ok anything lol!

I haven't even set up S-Voice, but I know it's tied to the home key by default. And we all know what that means on a Samsung phone...Lag!!!!
Interestingly enough, Poopypants revealed that the recents key also serves as a menu key if you long-press it! Theory is that double duty is where the sometimes lag in 'recent apps' comes from.

So, I'm sure like many of you, past experience with S-Voice and it's recognition system, command sets and wanting to confirm every little command you give it has spoiled your outlook on using S-Voice....
....but I can't help but feel I might be missing something on my new phone by just disabling it right off the bat!
Has anyone even tried using it again this time around to see if it has improved? Or at least coming from a newer phone like the S5 (I'm jumping from the S4) that would indicate progress or just more of the same old crap?
Google Now really is awesome and has the absolute best voice recognition of any system I've used, but considering S-Voice is tied into touchwiz, it's got great potential for phone management commands if they get it right.
Anyone even play with it?

hi,
ok it seems its some bug ?
This is wat i did,
on device.. settings/accessibilities /Services... turn off all "Services apps that is enabled.
eg. i had under Services.. Pushbullet, Greenify, Enhanced Sms. & Caller id etc. etc enabled. I had to turn them all off. Working 100%
Good luck
I found that the settings of text-to-speech options affects the talking calculator.
I just changed the language from English to any other language, then the calculator spoke the other language.
So, if the text-to-speech is turned off, the calculator will be quite. But no idea how to turn this off...

hi,
it is logical that if caculator "speaks" numbers etc. it is using a text to speech voice option. eg On my device Note 4 or my Note 3 or other, i have Samsung voice, Google voice or SVOX installed. If i disable it a lot of my apps won't work. This is not what is causing problem. (If you search around xda threads you will find thread where this solution was posted, unfortunately i did not save link at time) Try option in my post above and you will most likely see it works, but you have to turn off all apps listed in services.( The text to voice is mere a tool)

OMG
i've been crazy lurking around for the possible solution of this stupid voice text on my calculator as well.
I had made a thread regarding this and people from here has no idea about the solution for this problem.
i went to the settings, manage apps, all and deleted google text to speech and disabale samsung text to speech.
thats the time it will stop working. BUT, once you close all your recent used apps the voice message will go back again! WTF!
after how many centuries of searching for a solution, finally!!!! the horrible voice is gone when pressing the

Finally figured it out on my device, it's the samsung text to speech engine causing this issue. Since I'm rooted i froze it through bloat freezer and it worked perfectly. I still have google text to speech enabled and that doesn't interefere.
I have a Nexus player and after about the first week the voice search from the remote stopped working.
So what I did was I did a few reboots and cleared out some apps but that didn't help. I checked to see if there's any updates in the play store and there were not.
What I see now is that it's hit or miss on if the search even works (more misses and then hit) but more than that when I press down on the microphone button on the remote and record my question or search it keeps recording it doesn't stop.
The other thing is even if it does record it and stop it doesn't pull up any information. One of the reasons why I got the player was for android and was for the search integration right now I don't have it any help would be appreciated thank you.

Same here. I find the search only works on the main screen (not from an app) and in order to stop recording, I need to press the middle button after I said my bit.
I'll try that tip but man what a fail. How does google create a device like this with this many flaws.

My voice seemed to work fine until I upgraded (er... downgraded?) to M 6.0 and rooted it. Didn't test it after M and before rooting though. Now its really hit or miss.
I'm not rooted. Just installed a few apps and then it didn't work.

Yeah same with me. Voice search worked fine for a couple weeks now nothing.
Like previously said it's like it keeps recording even though what I've said is displayed

Found this fix which worked for me. Thanks to OzRex

Do you mean this? nd the mic icon keeps moving like it's detecting more voice....
Turn off automatic app updates, then go to play store and uninstall the app called Google App for Android TV. It will revert to the version shipped with the device which seems to work for me.

It used to work when I first got it, now it understands what I'm saying but doesn't actually search
me too, I just skip straight to type search, the look ahead works really well, which is nice.

So i use "ok google" a lot and have on all of my phones. But i constantly am having issues with my Nexus 6p, it will simply not work and when i press the mic button on the google search widget it tells me "cannot access microphone" a reboot fixes it or simply waiting a little bit then it will work again. It's anyone else having this problem??
Haven't seen this one personally. That sucks sorry.
I had that problem when I had cortana. It had taken priority. Prior phone though.

Unless you specify what is installed on the phone, what ROM, etc.
It's difficult to help.
I would start disabling the apps I installed prior to this happening.

Yea sorry, stock no special add ons and minimal app, facebook, instagram, ect very simple i have other phones and tablets to play i keep this guy stock for now
i have this problem too occasionally. a reboot fixes.
as someone else already mentioned, i suspect some other program is taking over the mic but i haven't figured out which one yet.
what's weird is that only okay google and the home screen search bar mic is busted when this happens. i can still use the mic to search in chrome and to do anything else (like write a text or whatever).
anyway, keeping an eye on this thread in case anyone figures out what the guilty app is.
May try going to app settings for the Google app (press and hold on it in the app drawer and drag it to app info is the fastest way)
And then go to permissions. Mic should be on. If it's not turn it on. If it is on, try turning it off then back on?

Do any of you have Smart Lock with Trusted Voice enabled?
Same Issue
I also have this issue. My phone is non rooted. Only broken through the search widget. I was using nova launcher. Now using google launcher to see if that cures the issue. So far so good. Will now download my common used apps and see if anything breaks it. I really hope it was'nt Nova. I'll cry. I did speak to Google and they will replace the phone under warranty but I am going to test first anyways. I won't be returning my phone to google anytime soon as they want to pre authorize another charge on my credit card to ship me the device well behold I don't have enough available credit for a pre auth. Said they have no other options. So if your phone is under warranty and needs to be replaced make sure you have a good credit limit. I even offered to send them my phone before they sent me the new one but they said I cannot do that. So upset with google right now and their returns.
I had the same issue as OP, as recent as this past weekend. I was stock/normal rooted, no special launcher, no cortana. Microphone worked fine for speakerphone, but i could not use voice search on Google now on my phone, my moto watch, or android auto in my car. Weird how one issue spans three devices.
google searches yielded nothing. i deleted tons of apps and nothing. i went ahead and just flashed the whole stock rom, and it works normal now.
Check the permissions settings.
I am having the same problem as the OP. Glad to know I'm not alone.

Reading the thread, had anyone solved this problem? I took the advice on checking the permission settings and found that all permissions are allowed except for storage and camera (or was it contacts? I don't remember exactly, both of them are lcoated closely). Anyhow, I decided to just allow all permissions, walla it seemed to have solved the problem, I pressed my finger on the microphone at the back of the phone and said "ok google" and it responded. Can anyone else try to see if this works?
This new permission structure has its fair share of problems, I have plenty apps crashing because of only partial permission allowed, Skype being one of them
