Can we use Tasker to turn On/Off the Second Screen? - LG V20 Questions & Answers

I like the idea of the Second Screen being on at various times for various reasons. I also like how we can set it to stay off at night (based on hours selected). However, I would like it to stay off for different hours each day (like some days from 10-6, other days 10-8, etc).
Can we turn on and off the second screen using Tasker or something?

There's actually a really easy way to do that if you're not stuck on using the stock launcher. With Nova Launcher Prime, you can toggle the second screen on and off anytime you want.
I have Nova set so when I double tap the screen, it toggles my second screen on and off. This way you're always able to choose when you want the second screen on or off. I think it's extremely useful, and something LG should have allowed out of the box. Nova is just packed with options, that's why it's the default launcher on all of my devices.

And that toggles it on and off for when the screen is off?
I'm truly interested in that - when the screen is off - and doing it through Tasker.

I've never seen an option in Nova that would result in turning the second screen off at will. Details?

I found that adding a widget to the home screen, adding "activities" at the top, then choosing "second screen settings", you can add various settings such as daily timeout.

You set Nova to toggle the notification bar, but toggling the notification bar also toggles the second screen in the process

Just when the screen is on. Isn't needed when the screen is off, as that can be changed in Settings out of the box

I understand that we can turn on and off the second screen (for when the screen is off) in the settings. We can also set it to do so automatically for a certain timeframe. I would like to have a different timeframe for each day. For example, when the screen is off, I would like the 2nd screen to be off from 10pm-5am on Monday-Friday, and off from 11pm-7am on Saturday and Sunday. I was hoping to set that up in Tasker. Any thoughts?

[Q] Always go to homescreen with no lockscreen

I don't like to have a lockscreen. Instead, I like to use my homescreen as a lockscreen (in the sense that it displays the time and notifications). However, when you disable the lockscreen, whenever you wake your phone you go to wherever you left off, in the browser for example. Are there any roms or mods that send you to the homescreen whenever you wake your phone without lockscreen? Or could this easily be made, if it doesnt exist already?
CM10.1 has this (I suggest downloading Jellybro, unofficial kang... more features, same stability)
go into settings -> lock screen -> security -> go from "Slide" to "None"

Doesn't that keep the lockscreen but just get rid of any security needed to unlock the phone?
Edit: Never mind. Lol.

It disables the lock screen completely. If you turn the phone screen off in the middle of a browser, and turn it back on. It shows up at the browser. If u screen off at youtube, turns on at youtube. I just tried it on my phone before replying.

Thanks for your reply, but that's exactly what I don't want.
Actually, stock can do this too. But I want it to return to my homescreen automatically when I wake my device, not where I left off. Would this be possible with Tasker maybe?

Not sure why you would want that to happen. Don't use Tasker so I don't know.
Seems like you're making your life more complicated for no reason. It logically doesn't make any sense why you wouldn't want your phone screen to turn on at the spot you last left on.

I see it this way: I use my lockscreen to quickly see the time, date and notifications. When I actually want to use my device, I have to make one gesture (slide or whatever). So why not completely remove the lockscreen, and let me go to the homescreen instead, so I can use that as a sort of "lockscreen"? That way I don't have to make that extra unlock gesture. On my homescreen I also have the time, date and notifications, so a lockscreen is kind of pointless. But turning on at the spot I left off is not what I want, because that way I won't be able to see time, date and notifications or whatever I have on my lockscreen/homescreen now (yes, I know I can see those things in the notifications bar, but it's just an example).

First off. The solution I mentioned above fully disables the lock screen. Meaning you won't have to do a gesture to unlock the phone in the first place.
Secondly, the time is always on the top right side. Depending what rom you have, you may also have the ability to add the day of the week there. Notifications is on the pull down, the date and the day of the week is also present there so there's no reason why you need to always know that kind of information every part of the day as people do turn on and turn off their screen many times during the day.

I know. I know how to disable the lockscreen. This is even possible with vanilla Android.
Like I said, I know those things are possible to put in my notification bar, but let's say I want to see things every time I turn on my device that are NOT possible to put in my notification bar.
The reason that I want this isn't even important. I just don't want to do that gesture every time I turn the screen on, but I do want to see widgets, clocks, notifications, WHATEVER, like I would have seen on my lockscreen. For this, I can use the homescreen, but only if it goes to the homescreen every time I turn the screen on.

In my eyes it does make sense. I want my homescreen to replace the lockscreen. My homescreen looks exactly the same as my lockscreen does. By disabling the lockscreen and going directly to the homescreen, I don't have to make the unlock gesture, which is what I want.
I just think it makes no sense to have a lockscreen if you have exactly the same content on your homescreen. So, why not save that extra unlock gesture and go directly to the homescreen?
I will look into Tasker to see if it's possible. I can't be the only one that wants this.
I made a tasker profile that does this. Just disable the lock screen and use this profile.

Double Tap to Turn Off Screen with 3rd Party Launcher

I've seen a few people mention reluctance moving onto a 3rd party launcher because you lose the ability to turn off your screen by double tapping but there is a way you can do this with Nova and or other third party launchers with gesture controls.
1) Download a free app called Screen Off from Google Play and set it up
2) Set your Double Tap setting to launch Screen Off
Your screen will now turn off just as if you were using the LG launcher.
Alternatively, and with no need for a third party app, just double tap the status (notifications) bar

Or also at the navigation bar with tweaksbox.
Nova launcher comes with gestures where you can set to double tap anywhere to screen off.

Actually it doesn't (unless you're rooted maybe?)
Gestures that you can setup in native Nova do not include screen off.

Correct.....
The only way to do this is with a third-party app which I explained to everyone (thank you by the way for your thanks) in a different topic here.
For me, I just have xposed>gravity box
and go to nova sett.>gestures(need prime)>double-tap>shortcuts>gravity box>screen off.
DONE.

I have not been able to get the double tap gesture in nova to work at all. I've tried setting it to multiple different actions or apps, and no matter how fast or slow I double tap nothing happens. All other gestures work fine. For the time being I've settled with double swiping down to activate Screen Off.
Has anyone else had this problem with their G3 and Nova?

Look at my post above (post 6 in this topic) and click on the link I give.
This will take you to the topic where I mention what app to install and what actions you need to carry out in order to make it work.
Works fine for me. So far I have never pressed the power button on my G3.
Action Launcher Pro supports Double Tap to lock screen feature.
The problem I am facing with nova, apex...etc that I have exchange security enabled by my employer, all the guesters and third party apps that i tried is locking the phone with the Pin not just shutting the screen, the double tab on the stock launcher shuts the screen but does not lock the phone.
Did anyone find a work around using third party launcher or app ?
Thanks

Sorry Shortcuts
KK Launcher is pretty comparable to Nova and Apex, and it has native support built into it to double-tap your screen to turn the screen off. I've been using this launcher with my Nexus 5 for a while now and have been quite happy with it (compared to Nova). (I'm supposed to get my G3 later today, so I can't speak as to how KK Launcher performs on it yet).

I believe the latest beta version of G3 TweaksBox has a setting to get around the security features when using Exchange. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2792242
Thanks a million, its working like charm, now i can use whatever launcher.
I have Nova as well and works fine just double tapping the status bar. Seemingly works better than LG'S...
Seams like there are a lot of different ways that everyone has to do this.
For me, I have been using Tasker to get double tap off with Nova Launcher gestures since the G2. Tasker is such a great app with about a million uses, I highly recommend everyone check it out. I have it setup to auto connect to different wifi's depending on my location, adjust screen brightness/ringer volumes depending on the time of day, and many others.
Action launcher is the best

[Q] G2 and custom launchers. Are there any that support double tap to sleep?

I've tried loads of launchers right now and none of them seem to make the phone go to sleep if I double tap the screen.
I know that you can double tap the notification bar to make it go to sleep but that's terrible. It's uncomfortable to try and do so since my hands are not that big.
Nova Prime, add Screen Off app on Gestures in Nova Settings.
Most do not by default.
Action Launcher does have an option to turn screen off in settings. I use it on my Nexus 7.
Nova has options for Double Tap, but requires a "Screen Off" app from the Play Store. Pretty simple and works great.
I have found other launchers that have "Screen Off" as options too. They just aren't enabled by default.
Action launcher 3, gestures setting (double/triple tap on screen or on home button, swipes, etc.).
Just use Lock Screen App and problem solved. It works flawlessly.

If you are on AOSP, there should be SlimActions (and screenoff there) included, which might be used in f.e Nova's launcher double tap gesture
Nova. It just works, no additional app needed. Double tap on notification bar.
That was not the question. Double tab on notification bar is different from tapping somewhere on the screen.
Smart launcher + secure settings dose the job for me

Do you have nova setting an administrator account? Nobody else has been able to get knock off in nova to work without either hitting the status bar or setting an administrator account which overrides the fingerprint sensor.

Thanks but I have that turned on and I'm using Nova Launcher.
I use Nova Launcher as well and have had no problems with either knocking on or off. You probably already know this, but just in case....
There is also a setting in Nova Launcher that assigns what Nova does when you double tap. It's in Nova Settings > Gestures & Inputs. Mine is set to "screen lock" when I double tap. Good luck!

AOD + knock off with Nova

Have searched, but don't see this exact solution:
I want to use Nova launcher, and be able to use the "knock off" to turn off the screen, but also use "always on display" -probably me that's confused -If I use Nova's own built in gesture to turn off the screen (double tap), AOD doesn't come on, as well as 3rd party "double tap to lock screen" apps -ultimately, would be able to use Nova as my launcher, double tap to lock screen, have always on display come on, wake with fingerprint scanner.
Thanks for any help
AOD has nothing to do with Nova Launcher. You can use double tap to sleep in Nova however if you're not rooted the screen will dim first before total screen off and if you touch you're screen it will turn on again. lol
Much better if you're rooted to be able to directly put the screen off when using double tap to sleep in Nova.

Thanks! I guess I wasn't giving it enough time/delay after double tapping the screen off with Nova for AOD to appear -didn't make sense that it would be incompatible, as it isn't

But until now there's no root yet for H870DS variants. :crying:
