[Q] Always go to homescreen with no lockscreen - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't like to have a lockscreen. Instead, I like to use my homescreen as a lockscreen (in the sense that it displays the time and notifications). However, when you disable the lockscreen, whenever you wake your phone you go to wherever you left off, in the browser for example. Are there any roms or mods that send you to the homescreen whenever you wake your phone without lockscreen? Or could this easily be made, if it doesnt exist already?

CM10.1 has this (I suggest downloading Jellybro, unofficial kang... more features, same stability)
go into settings -> lock screen -> security -> go from "Slide" to "None"

Doesn't that keep the lockscreen but just get rid of any security needed to unlock the phone?
Edit: Never mind. Lol.

It disables the lock screen completely. If you turn the phone screen off in the middle of a browser, and turn it back on. It shows up at the browser. If u screen off at youtube, turns on at youtube. I just tried it on my phone before replying.

Thanks for your reply, but that's exactly what I don't want.
Actually, stock can do this too. But I want it to return to my homescreen automatically when I wake my device, not where I left off. Would this be possible with Tasker maybe?

Not sure why you would want that to happen. Don't use Tasker so I don't know.
Seems like you're making your life more complicated for no reason. It logically doesn't make any sense why you wouldn't want your phone screen to turn on at the spot you last left on.

I see it this way: I use my lockscreen to quickly see the time, date and notifications. When I actually want to use my device, I have to make one gesture (slide or whatever). So why not completely remove the lockscreen, and let me go to the homescreen instead, so I can use that as a sort of "lockscreen"? That way I don't have to make that extra unlock gesture. On my homescreen I also have the time, date and notifications, so a lockscreen is kind of pointless. But turning on at the spot I left off is not what I want, because that way I won't be able to see time, date and notifications or whatever I have on my lockscreen/homescreen now (yes, I know I can see those things in the notifications bar, but it's just an example).

First off. The solution I mentioned above fully disables the lock screen. Meaning you won't have to do a gesture to unlock the phone in the first place.
Secondly, the time is always on the top right side. Depending what rom you have, you may also have the ability to add the day of the week there. Notifications is on the pull down, the date and the day of the week is also present there so there's no reason why you need to always know that kind of information every part of the day as people do turn on and turn off their screen many times during the day.

I know. I know how to disable the lockscreen. This is even possible with vanilla Android.
Like I said, I know those things are possible to put in my notification bar, but let's say I want to see things every time I turn on my device that are NOT possible to put in my notification bar.
The reason that I want this isn't even important. I just don't want to do that gesture every time I turn the screen on, but I do want to see widgets, clocks, notifications, WHATEVER, like I would have seen on my lockscreen. For this, I can use the homescreen, but only if it goes to the homescreen every time I turn the screen on.

In my eyes it does make sense. I want my homescreen to replace the lockscreen. My homescreen looks exactly the same as my lockscreen does. By disabling the lockscreen and going directly to the homescreen, I don't have to make the unlock gesture, which is what I want.
I just think it makes no sense to have a lockscreen if you have exactly the same content on your homescreen. So, why not save that extra unlock gesture and go directly to the homescreen?
I will look into Tasker to see if it's possible. I can't be the only one that wants this.

I made a tasker profile that does this. Just disable the lock screen and use this profile.

Volume button doesn't go to silent?

Anyone else lacking the feature to go from vibrate to silent by pressing the volume down button? This is after the 2.2 update. Also, if anyone has a fix for removing the slide lockscreen before pattern lockscreen, that would be helpful.
In 2.2 u have to option for either silent or vibrate. U can pick which one under settings>sound>vibrate

I agree, I find the lack of it now very annoying. Sometimes I like to have my phone on vibrate (like at work), and sometimes I want it completely silent (like while I'm asleep). This seems like a pointless change.
Check out Volume Toggle (Free) on the market. I use a widget to change my sound profiles. When I go to bed I use Night Watch to restrict sounds. When you plug it in between certain hours it will auto start for you if you want.
Glad I found this I was afraid I messed something up lol
This is pretty unbelievable to me, why they would do that.
Either way, you could try the link in my sig... my volume control app allows you to go into silent or vib. It's pretty nooby though.
Hate it also, i use dazzle widget. Has a toggle for vibrate or silent.

Thanks, I've been looking for something like these for the last couple days, I'll check out the various apps you guys mentioned.
Edit: Actually, I just realized that you get a similar widget with Weather and Toggle Widgets. You can toggle between On, Vibrate, and Silent, it's just what I was looking for.

Well actually, I stand corrected. Holding the top button will only set vibrate now. But, speaking of cool widgets, try widgetlocker! There is a slide that will completely silence or vibrate all from the lock screen. I know this isn't a true fix to what they screwed up but it is an all around better lock screen. $1.99 is well worth it.

How to set which widget shows up on lockscreen?

I'd like to try to use DashClock but I can't seem to make it so it's always the screen/widget that comes up when I turn the screen on my phone. It always just goes back to the standard one the next time I try....
Help?
Delete all the pages besides the one with the DashClock widget and then if you want, add them back AFTER the DashClock widget is the only page left.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
The one that shows up right when you turn on the display is always the 2nd screen furthest to the right. The 1st screen furthest to the right is always the camera widget. So if you want a particular screen to show up when you turn on the display, move it to that position.

Yeah, after you add the DashClock long press it and move it so it's just left of the camera widget. You can long press the standard widget and remove it as well.

Hi,
You should maybe look into an app like WidgetLocker from the market.
Search for one that will give you what you want.
Or even a different launcher.
The S4 does have 'daydream' in the display settings, which allows you to enable wallpapers among other things when your phone is docked or charging, or manually when not docked.

+1 for Nova. If you got the $50 credit, get Nova Prime (paid), although test out the free one first to see if you like it.
I like Action Launcher 3 better than Nova but the latter is as good as it gets if you want to set up the phone old school. Realistically everyone should have a second launcher installed off the market just to get the backup for a corrupt stock launcher. You don't have to use it but if the stock launcher is hosed Android will start the phone up with the second which will allow you to get through your day and deal with the fix later.
Perhaps someone else will flesh this out for you but the reason people are saying install another launcher may be because you didn't used to be able to rid yourself of the search bar without root on Nexus devices. Not sure if this has changed since I only screwed around with it when it first came out for about the 5 minutes it took to figure out I hated it and haven't looked back since. Maybe that has changed though...

You should download the screen off app and bind the double tap to turn off the screen. That for off and the fingerprint for on, you'll never have to touch the power button (but double tapping the power button for quick camera is still pretty awesome, so you probably will - lol).

You can use nova/screen on to turn it off and it doesn't require root. To turn on, you can use the fingerprint sensor.

Twice. Once when switching themes and once with an app conflict that hosed ADW. I normally have multiple launchers installed as I like to switch things up but it also comes in handy when the chips are down.

That doesn't make any sense. I've been using it for a few days and I've had no problems with Imprint at all.
Update: I take that back. So, I just played with it a little bit and you're right. If I power off via the button, imprint allows me to power on and unlock immediately. If I double-tap to power off, when I touch the sensor, it still asks for the pin code.
I personally like the Google Now launcher. I don't see what's wrong with the search bar at the top, personally. I'm not a fan of the newest skin they put on it, though. The launcher, as a whole, though us functional and minimal, which is what I prefer. Having google now with a swipe to the right is a bonus.

Can we use Tasker to turn On/Off the Second Screen?

I like the idea of the Second Screen being on at various times for various reasons. I also like how we can set it to stay off at night (based on hours selected). However, I would like it to stay off for different hours each day (like some days from 10-6, other days 10-8, etc).
Can we turn on and off the second screen using Tasker or something?
There's actually a really easy way to do that if you're not stuck on using the stock launcher. With Nova Launcher Prime, you can toggle the second screen on and off anytime you want.
I have Nova set so when I double tap the screen, it toggles my second screen on and off. This way you're always able to choose when you want the second screen on or off. I think it's extremely useful, and something LG should have allowed out of the box. Nova is just packed with options, that's why it's the default launcher on all of my devices.

I found that adding a widget to the home screen, adding "activities" at the top, then choosing "second screen settings", you can add various settings such as daily timeout.

I understand that we can turn on and off the second screen (for when the screen is off) in the settings. We can also set it to do so automatically for a certain timeframe. I would like to have a different timeframe for each day. For example, when the screen is off, I would like the 2nd screen to be off from 10pm-5am on Monday-Friday, and off from 11pm-7am on Saturday and Sunday. I was hoping to set that up in Tasker. Any thoughts?
