My current N5X had the bootloop problem, happily the warranty fixed it, but saddly they give me a 16Gb device when my phone was 32Gb, they told me they had no more 32gb motherboards... now, that storage is almost useless for me...
I guy wants to trade my Nexus 5X for his 6P (64gb) just for a little diference of money; I wanted tu buy a S8 or Pixel 2 but I want to wait more time (cuz their price), so, do you guys think that the N6P has a high bad luck of suffer the bootloop problem?, will be better if I avoid that phone and just keep my 5X until save money for S8 or Pixel 2?, Im kinda worry about my phone dying again, so I want to change it soon :/
Early shutdown from weak battery and bootloop caused by big cores. Both can be fixed as far as I know. That being said I bought a used Nexus 6p and haven't had any issues . It's a great phone and don't see any reason to upgrade. It's does almost everything the new phones can do and has a great camera. I would say go for it odds are in your favor. ?
ditto. Both phones have problems, sometimes. I bought another used one too because its a great phone.

How dare you sir, how dare you. Just check the forum. Nexus 6Ps are dying everyday, falling like flies, due to bootloop issue. That you dare to ask whether n6p are bootlooping is understatement on multiple levels. Even the service centre guys know that a bootlooping phone out of warranty is as good as a paperweight. I can say safely that there are more bootlooping n6p than n5x. Your trade is unjustified. For all I know, he could be trading it with the temporary fix (4 core fix), or in anticipation that it will bootloop soon since it may be over an year and out of warranty.
There is 0 hope for n6p unless you have bought it directly from Google store. The rest of us are screwed.

Thanks for your recommendation, I didn't know that the 6P was even more problematic than the N5X, I thought the 6P was safer and a better option.
In that case I will go for the S8 or the Pixel 2 then, but right now I can't afford them and my N5X has just 1Gb storage left , I have to hurry up

You clearly have had a bad experience, but don't try to make out everyone has had the same experience you have. Like many Android phones some suffer with the bootloop issue, its not limited to the 6P and only happens to a minority when you look at the total number sold.
The battery issue again is known and Google are replacing ones bought from them, even outside of warrnty. Its a $50 fix if it wasn't from them or or out of warranty from elsewhere.

I specifically mentioned that the ones who didn't buy the phone for google are screwed. Huawei and google screwed a whole country (India) in this regard. There is no official Google store here , and the phones are always sold via third party retailers mentioned in their own official website.
Google acknowledges this issue(even if out of warranty), but Huawei simply won't ( the customers who got them from retailers other than google are redirected to contact Huawei).
The fix for this issue is replacing the motherboard. Service centres in my country quote 293 to 386 USD to replace the motherboard.
I have been closely watching the thread related to the 4 core fix. I've also watched my associate's n6p die. I personally have this device running with the fix. I never mentioned that this device is the only one bootlooping. There are several LG models bootlooping, and that's even more ridiculous. I've seen plenty android devices, but the devices around the period of Snapdragon 810 seem to be faulty, but that's just my opinion.
Anyways, my response had an intentionally satirical flair. I am sorry if it offended you.
No Offence, I don't make or sell them. Just wasn't a true representation of the phone. Unfortunate for the position in India, but the OP is not in India.
I do agree however that if you are buying one second hand (don't think you can buy one new now) then I would look to make sure any phone of this kind of value has some sort of 3rd arty cover on it. Thats not just 6P advice though.
One more 6p become paperweight as motherboard is dead soon after an update ..in india ..not fair man not fair ..its not cheap and not everyone is able to bear such financial loss. Feeling cheated

Looking to purchase a Nexus 6P but I am very hesitant right now. Probably should have picked it up when it was on sale a few weeks ago but kept going back and forth due to price and couldn’t make up my mind if the 6p is worth switching to from a Note 4. Have a Note 4 and OnePlus so I have some experience using both stock Android and TouchWiz. I can admit stock is somewhat smoother than toucwiz but hated the OnePlus due to lag after taking a picture. It was infuriating. So I came back to my Note 4. I do plan to pick up the Note 6 if sd card is brought back as i like to go back and forth between stock and other android variants. So that’s why I couldn’t make up my mind if the 6p is worth getting. Anyway I digress. My main concern is how Huawei is in reference to warranty and device repair. A few of my friends who bought the device said they did so from google so they won’t have to deal with Huawei in terms of warranty. I also usually buy devices secondhand on Swappa or Ebay as you can get some pretty good deals. However, I think I want to go new this time in case I have any issues. I have a BestBuy 10% coupon so I could get the 64GB from them and pay about $530 total after taxes. Or If I buy it from the google store it will be about $589. Do you guys think the Google customer service is worth the extra cost and not having to deal with Huawei? Is Huawei as bad as in thinking in terms of repairs/customer service? Also is the extended warranty from nexus protect or Square Trade worth it as I know some people did have to sometimes swap a few phones before they got a good one.
Just a warning, you'll want to check that your coupon is usable on phones. Best Buy's 10% off "anything" coupons come in a few different versions, and at least one isn't valid got things like laptops, phone, game consoles etc.
Thanks

ok will do so. I'm starting to read abut the Nexus 6P Bending issue and becoming even more hesitant. Decisions , Decisions.
In regards to bending I wouldn't worry too much. Any metal body phone off this size has some risk of bending, but as long as you take reasonable care of it and keep it in a case it will most likely be a non-issue.
With a solid case, the risk of bending is very greatly reduced. Like mentioned above, check the coupon, Best Buy can be a bit tricky with wording.
I love Google's customer support, but, once my order completed properly (it did not clear due to daily limits the first time, hence needing to contact Google), I have had no need to contact them. Anyways, Google often tells people to contact Huawei with device issues, so you may end up discussing a problem with Huawei anyways. Huawei does offer a free screen repair upon contacting them, too, in many cases (from what I hear).
For protection & peaceofmind use Speck Candyshell case...ftw

Not if you get the Nexus Protect program on it. I ordered my 6P from Amazon at first, to get a little better price. But then started reading about all the horrible customer service instances with contacting Huawei directly. So I ordered one directly from Google with Nexus Protect, for peace of mind. Returned the Amazon one unopened. This way I always deal with Google, who seem quick to respond and help (mostly by exchanging the phone, it seems), and should never have to deal with Huawei.
If Huawei ever hopes to do well outside of China, they had better do something about their customer service, IMO. Maybe what we read here about them passes for good service in China, but does not stack up well at all compared to the other flag ship smartphone brands.
If you do get it from Best Buy, you will be able to get Geek Squad Protection on it for 7.99 a month plus a $150 deducible. It covers literally anything that could happen to the device. As long as you have a device to bring it, they will give you one.

I purchased a used Nexus 6P a couple of months ago. It died while I was using it a few days ago. It will not show any signs of life whatsoever. It will not even accept a charge.
I spoke to Huawei and explained the problem. They refuse to repair the phone even though I am willing to pay for the repair. They say that if I do not have a valid receipt (Ebay, Swappa, etc. don't count) that I am out of luck. Amusingly, I was told that they have a way of determining if the phone was ever rooted (which I do not believe) and that if it was ever rooted, this also voids their responsibility for repairs even out of warranty.
I have never had a hardware failure like this and have tinkered with perhaps 20 phones over the years. I have never run across this situation before.
Can anyone suggest an alternative or do I though this expensive device in the trash?
Man hate to hear that for you! I recently took my wifes LG G3 which would not keep the screen on and fixed it. I know it's a totally different issue probably. But the point was I was able to test my working G3 with hers and found that it was the MAIN BORAD...so I bought a $50 broken screen phone off eBay and opened it up and swapped boards. Phone works great now.
Wondering if something similar could be done for you. Maybe there are some "broken for parts" versions out there you could get for cheap. If your handy at all....it's typically just screws and small parts. You might even find a replacement video on YouTube.
Good luck! Sucks...sorry.
Thanks for the kind words. I agree that it is likely the main board, but the 6P is such a bear to work on that I am not eager to throw more money at it unless I could have some degree of confidence that I wil succeed.
Do you know where was the phone purchase originally?. Google or Huawei?

Sorry to hear!!
But actually, I do believe they can tell if the phone has been unlocked (which I believe you need to root)
The phone came from a re-seller, so it is impossible to say.
One can easily re-lock the bootloader. I don't believe that unlocking leaves a trail, so to speak.
For sure Huawei has a bad rep for customer support. A few good reports here and there, but mostly stories like yours. That is exactly why I bought mine directly from Google and purchased the Nexus Protect package. I paid a little more than getting it from Amazon, but the peace of mind is worth it to me. Perhaps you can find a local phone repair place to help you out?
I would happily send this to a third-party repair shop, but I cannot guess who would have access to the parts.
Call some of them and ask if they can get the parts.
Wow this is clearly unacceptable!! I mean the phone is not even 1 year old yet how can they refused repairing it? They want the receipt but who cares about that if the phone is not even 1 year old...
Stories like that make me dont wanna buy phones from Huawei anymore! Try again until they accept repairing it.

Talk to a local repair person and see what they will do. Parts are available (http://www.globaldirectparts.com/Huawei-Google-Nexus-6P-Parts-s/24884.htm), so the question will be if the repair person has had experience with the phone before and what kind of risk they and you are willing to take.
Does anything happen when you plug it into your computer any sound or vibration?

Well, it's happened on Monday. Was using my phone and bloop....screen goes off and that's the last time it worked. Gradually got to the stage where it wouldnt even loop but my 5x is dead. RIP.
So, being out of warranty and all I sent an email to LG to see how much it would cost to repair. Reply came back with a series of questions but no "reply to" address. That's one way of hiding from the problem I suppose. For a company to try and avoid their responsibilities for a screamingly obvious hardware flaw is way out of order. At least Samsung had the guts to put their hands up.
Sharing this as part of the grieveing process in a way for the old Nexus devices. Had a 4, a 7 and then a 5x. The Pixels came out but when I saw their price tags and the setups it just reeked of apple (excuse the bad swearing language). Very sad really for someone who rarely went a whole week without the simple process of changing rom or setup or kernel but that was the beauty of the Nexus ethos.
Since Monday evening I have been the owner of a Moto G5 Plus. Only charged it three times since getting it. Ads are part blocked in stock, it's nippy and am moving on with my life post nexus. Trouble is it's still on 7.0 but not a big issue for me.
Anyway, thanks guys and gals for the good times. LEarnt a lot about android, poor customer service and build quality from LG and made some good friends (and enemies) on here.
Keep happy
My 5X also died from last Sunday.... I sent my phone to authorized service (Procordia in Greece). I'm waiting now when the phone will be fixed (changing motherboard).
So I know you already moved on to the G5 plus, but you should see about getting it repaired. Then you could always keep on hand as a .spare device. Mine bootlooped (a second time) well out of warranty but I filled out the RMA request on LG's website (didn't talk to anyone, just like I did the first time) and they fixed it a second time for free. I don't recall how long they did it for, but they extended the warranty
edit: should point out I'm in the US and it might not go as well in other countries
My nexus died on me yesterday, still have 3 days left in warranty. Filed 2 reports to LG to request a repair and have had no email or anything, its as if my request has vanished. This is utterly ridicolous as I need a phone and I'm currently without one and can't afford anything worth buying. Will have to resort to using my Nokia 1600. Shame on LG for being like this
You should try contacting LG via phone and that might work better. The 5X warranty has been extended to 18 months on a case by case basis since this is a hardware problem. If they won't fix it, all you did was spend time on the call, but if you are eligible to have it fixed, you'd have a spare phone.
These bootloops are getting more and more common as our phone ages. Mine froze and shut down randomly and bricked while using it a few months back. Thankfully I bought mine here in the UK from Carphone Warehouse where I sent it for repairs, got the motherboard replaced, and fixed in one week, for free with the 2-year warranty. It sucks that LG aren't willing to help you guys though.
Mine died on me earlier this year. Luckily I had some backup phones. Using my old 2013 Nexus 5 currently. I can get life from my phone here and then but it freezes and shuts down during the boot animation. I bought mine from someone off craigslist so I doubt I'd have any luck getting it fixed by Google or LG. Too bad parts are hard to come by or I would try and buy a new motherboard and replace it myself. I really do miss using the 5X though. Just got to hold off until the end of the year for the next Pixel.
My Nexus 5X also bootlooped itself to death yesterday. I purchased it January 2016 when my Nexus 5 decided to kill itself. Unfortunately I also bought a 5X for my girlfriend at the same time which I'm expecting to go anytime now. I'm currently using my Samsung Galaxy S II that I bought at launch and is still alive 6 years later. Sucks because the only new phone that looks good to me right now is the LG G6, but I don't trust LG anymore so I don't know what to replace it with. Galaxy S 8 is purdy but I don't want to deal with burn in (like on my GS2). Essential also looks nice but doesn't have a headphone jack so that's out. Might have to go Sony with it's gigantic bezels. :-\
Update: Getting a refurbished replacement from Google. Hopefully by the time this one dies there will be some more appealing replacement options.
My second 5X died few days ago. Good phone bad quality
Mine died today. Warranty expired last October but they are sending me a refurb replacement. I've had it since November 2015 and even Bought it off swappa so I feel fortunate in one way but a phone should last a lot longer than that.

Who did you go through? Google or LG? I bought mine from someone off Craigslist but haven't tried asking for a replacement since I've never had any type of warranty. Did you have to show any kind of receipt of buying it or anything or did they just simply say "Ok" and send you a refurbished one? Also, did you call them or email them?

Well I just might do the same. If you bought it from a third party and it died yesterday and your already getting a refurbished one, I think I may have a shot. Good to know. Thanks
Well. Some progress here too.
Decided to give LG a go but as I bought it over ebay they wouldnt entertain any warranty work but gave me their out of warranty people called SBE here in the UK.
Contacted SBE and without any commitment on their behalf the fella said that they would look at it and if its not showing signs of damage and water etc then it should be covered as they have permission to replace faulty motherboards with only postage costs.
So am packing the phone off to them and see what happens. Anybody else experienced this route? Would be worth getting it fixed just to sell the damn thing afterwards.

Sure,
the verbage is a bit intimidating saying that they are putting full price for refurbished on hold on your account to see if it is covered by warranty but what they want to do is make sure you didn't run over it or drop it from a ten story building.

Yes, and then when they receive it and see it's not physically damaged (water, smashed screen) they refund you back the price of the phone. I didn't have to pay shipping either way.

It's kind of funny they would even hold onto the price of the phone seeing as the device isn't under warranty and it would be no loss to them. I mean, what would be the scenario where they would actually charge you the amount of the phone?

I've come across a brand new N5X for sale that was bought approximately 6 months and has never been used.
Did Google fix this issue before later production runs of this phone?
Is there any way I can tell if this particular phone was manufactured after Google was aware and fixing this bootloop issue?

I bought a nexus 5x recently after my oneplus one broke, nexus 5x was the best phone I can get for my budget of £100. I'm a student so I can't get the best device atm. I can say I'm not facing any reboots and I believe this phone was probably manufactured within a year ago. So if it was bought 6 months ago you can sorta assume there won't be any issue
When you consider that, N5Xs coming back from LG's warranty program after a BLOD have BLOD again soon after, I don't think there are BLOD-proof motherboards.

I've been reading lots of the threads but can't recall indications of people saying the have blod again? I could easily be wrong. Have you seen that indicated a lot?
Yes, there may be no such thing as blod-proof. It may simply be that those 808 chips were all mfg at one time and one time only. I don't think it's unlike a mfg to do that, due to cost of retooling etc etc.
I wish we knew this for certain. The N5x suits my needs about as well as could be (Specs be damned.). I don't really like the newer, heavier and larger phones... or should u say phablets?
I've seen it on Reddit, on the megathread3 about the BLOD, so I think they've been made all at once and they're all f***ed up
Btw mine just came back and have black screen sometimes (but on, I can see retro-light is on, and vibrating when it scan the digital prints), or sometimes it starts to be all purple... I think they screwed up the repair or the new motherboard graphics is bugging

Looks like we might be entitled to a bit of money. The article says we don't have to do anything and will be contacted via mail. I'm not sure how "they" know all of our addresses though. It would be nice if there was a list to join for emailed updates and information. Please leave a comment if you have any further knowledge!
Article TLDR:
WHO?
"According to the filing, the case covers 'all individuals in the United States who purchased a Google Pixel or Pixel XL smartphone, other than for resale, between October 4, 2016 and the present.'" with the exception of "people directly connected to Google or the trial. That includes anyone working at Google, a Google subsidiary, or Google-affiliated company. It also rules out any judges assigned to the case, along with their immediate family."
WHEN?
"For now, there’s not much you need to do. Just by buying a Pixel phone you’re included in the class action lawsuit. Once a trial is approved you’ll probably receive a notice in the mail telling you how to actively join the case. It will also explain how to file a claim once the lawsuit is settled— assuming there’s some money to be had."
WHY?
Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones suffer from what the company called a “hairline crack in the solder connection on the audio codec.” In some cases, this made it extremely difficult to use the microphone, making phone calls and voice commands impossible.
The company says only 1% of Pixel phones included the defect, but the lawsuit notes that within just a few weeks of the device’s launch people were already reporting issues with the microphone. Instead of offering refunds, Google replaced some defective smartphones with new units that had the exact same issue. Even worse, the company never stopped selling the Pixel and Pixel XL despite mounting evidence that something was wrong.
I feel like I got ripped off by Google, and I'm not buying another, Lots of issues with this phone, and if you take a photo near the sun you get BIG round sun flairs.

That's also every phone and camera that isnt a dedicated camera that costs more than $1000. Do you feel ripped off with a dedicated camera that does this too? And I wouldnt say there were too many problems...some, sure, but enough to deter from buying another Google phone?
The price is more of a deterrent to buying another phone if you ask me.
Yeah I 2nd what @godfish said I bought an EOS Rebel and the damn thing won't make phone calls to save my life. I mean what the hell. But as far as my pixel XL goes, ever since I rooted and unlocked the bootloader and flashed a new rom everyday I seem to have apks crashing, substratum themes that don't mesh well with some apps. Loss of root from twrp. Its all Google's fault. So I was thinking of getting the pixel XL 2. How's it's camera? Does it work under water ?
I don't really get why there's got to be a class action lawsuit their exchange policy is awesome and easy to deal with. Had a problem with mine and it only took about a two-minute phone call before they sent me another one. People are always trying to get a dollar. I won't be joining the class action deal.

Yes that's no good. I had the first gen pixels big and small, they had no issues, maybe I got lucky. Then I got the pixel xl2, it had touch screen issue and they replaced it.
My PXL is all good. Did get a P2 and P2XL and both were fault: P2 had speaker issues and the P2XL had the worst blueshift imaginable. Returned both for full refund including all shipping costs,no hassles and no questions.
Not sure this is worth a class-action lawsuit, but then again, I'm not in America. Good luck if you get something (as long as that doesn't then affect the rest of us... Y'know, higher prices, for example)

I refused to RMA because what I get back would not be bootloader unlockable. I've basically been clearing my cache in TWRP every day since November because of the random reboot issue. Many have exchanged phones multiple times and still receive a refurbished device that does the same thing. Without an unlocked bootloader and TWRP, I'd be suffering the same fate as many who just have to watch their phone reboot repeatedly until it dies.

Loss of root from twrp. Its all Google's fault. So I was thinking of getting the pixel XL 2. How's it's camera? Does it work under water ?

I snorted out loud. I almost spit water all over my bed.
If you read Google's own discussion groups, this is a huge problem and there is clearly a manufacturing defect with the motherboard. This problem only affects the XL, it seems.
I was running stock and mine died suddenly at the ripe old age of 16 months. I was lucky compared to many others!
I expect a $100 off brand phone to last longer than 16 months, but I don't expect an off brand company to do anything for me when it dies. Spending nearly $900 on what's marketed as the best piece of premium hardware is different though, but Google could only refer me to an aftermarket shop that wants to charge me $350 for a new motherboard... There's no way to just but the replacement part.
Ignoring the fact that I feel like the right thing for Google to do is extend coverage for manufacturing defects like this, wouldn't the $350 repair simply be replacing my old defective hardware with new defective hardware? If Google won't admit to a problem, it's pretty much impossible for them to assure us that the problem has been addressed and that we should have faith in the replacement parts.
I've never filed a warranty claim in my life and can't stand it when people RMA their devices at the 12 month mark just to get a newer phone or to fix a screen that got cracked when they threw the phone into the wall.
Some of you can laugh if you want, but it will become very much not funny in a few more weeks/months when your device inevitably dies from the same issue.
Unfortunately, you are not the only customer.

I don't really get why there's got to be a class action lawsuit their exchange policy is awesome and easy to deal with. Had a problem with mine and it only took about a two-minute phone call before they sent me another one. People are always trying to get a dollar. I won't be joining the class action deal.

I just wrapped up a six month battle to replace a Nexus 6P that had device protection. I was offered a replacement during that famous "2 minute phone call" (6 month after purchase). When I saw I needed to authorize about a GRAND for the replacement I offered to send the phone and wait it out while using my Nexus 5X. I was told quite quickly (despite being told I would have the defective phone replaced with a Pixel XL) "WE WILL SEND YOU WHAT YOU SEND US." me: but you guys just told me you are aware it has a battery issue: " WE WILL SEND YOU WHAT YOU SEND US". 6 months later -and involving the Better Business Bureau: 2 days after emailing BBB -I had the Pixel XL. After asking them for 6 months to honor original solution.
I know a good product when I see one; or at least I respect innovation.
I use their phones for the tower/switch software/set-up.
But, I highly advise to use their system; while not purchasing through them.
If it's in there best interest to resolve the situation quickly and effectively; they will.
If your idea of fair is not inline with them; you are bounced infinitely between dept. Until the BBB jumps in.
Y'all been warned.
Hopefully, they are working on this.
THX. no hard feelings. honestly my 100% experience...
oh well
