Ok I have been reading about this from multiple resources and haven't seen a direct answer to my issue so I wanted to ask the community here. I want to thank everyone In advanced for taking time to read this and help me out.
I purchased a US Sprint S8 from a friend. He's called them and they unlocked the phone for us. I am attempting to add it to my Verizon plan. They are giving me the run around stating the IMEI isn't compatible. I am not seeing how this is possible as the S8 is showing it's both CDMA & GSM compatible. One rep in their tech support stated they could add the IMEI into their database and that will help resolve this, which was two days ago when they submitted that request (48 hour turnaround). I follow up with them and they are telling me it's not CDMA compatible blah blah blah. Now, the other thing worth mentioning is that when I take my Verizon SIM and insert into the sprint S8, it states that it's not a valid SIM.
Anyone recommend what's the best course of action here? I'm not the most savvy person when it comes to dealing with Odin and rooting the phone. Worse case scenario I am going to drop this thing on ebay and try to recover my expense.

The it's not CDMA is bull, Sprint is a CDMA carrier. The Sprint S8 also Supports Band 13.

what model do you have?
My understanding is only 1 model is sold in the US, the SM-G950U. Has CDMA and all the LTE bands used in the US. Carriers just add their own bloatware.
Maybe you need a specific verizon sim. I know sprint needs specific sims for certain phones.

The model in the US is SM-G950U on all carriers.

I am thinking that you may need to flash the unlocked firmware(G950U1) to your phone, which is XAA. Unlocked firmware includes many US CSC codes that should be compatible with most US carriers. Your Sprint phone may only have its own CSC which could be SPR, but Verizon's CSC is VZW.

Based off reading that thread you mentioned that would make sense hypothetically. Would you or anyone be aware if I flash this and it still doesn't work, can I flash back to sprint and sell it as a standard sprint phone? Don't want it bricked or be out the $$ by my half ass attempt of acting like I know what I'm doing.

It is always a risk, but first I flashed my unlocked model to T-Mobile firmware(using regular Odin app), used it for 2 months and recently flashed back(using custom Odin app) to unlocked firmware before putting my phone for sale of eBay. I personally take the risk especially if it doesn't work for you with Verizon and don't see a reason why you wouldn't be able to flash back in case you need it. In other words if you phone enters download mode, then it should be able to flash.

Tried to flash to g950u1 tonight and it didn't help the SIM issue. Going to try the Verizon version and also as the store to give me a new SIM card. Hoping this works out soon

So my question is quite simple, and before I get flamed, yes I have tried searching. I don't think I'm typing the correct sequence of words if there is already something on this. I never post obviously, I normally creep and derive my answers that way. Obvious again that I've been here since 2012
My question is if there is a way / guide to overwrite/reprogram the phone with the AT&T firmware and software and replace the Verizon that is currently on the device. I brought the phone over from Verizon to AT&T and there are just a couple complications that are just a bother and Just over it.
I would appreciate any guidance and information any of you could provide on the subject.

I don't know if you can from a user stand point but when I was shopping around t-mobile store told me they would copy their firmware onto the phone so I could try their network. You may need to go to a store and talk to someone.
Since Verizon is CDMA and AT&T is GSM, I am not sure a simple firmware update is all that is needed to switch.

That's what I thought but they insisted they could do it. Maybe since there is a Sim slot it's easier on the the 3's.
Years ago you could almost swap sim cards and be good. Idk about it anymore. I think you would have to take all the system files/partitions and the radio and swap them for the carriers. Im sure someone else whos more, but i think it would be unreasonably hard to do.

i believe that some services would work as the phone has some radios in it for the att bands, but you would be better off trading for an att version. swappa has stuff like that all the time to straight trade
Getting service to work and getting 4Glte was no issue. That just required me to manually input APNs that were AT&T specific and presto I have service and all that jazz. My issue is a couple of other small things that really aren't big hut just thst, annoying. That's why I was seeing about the software and firmware being flashed into the device.
I have been doing research and searching these forums for a few days now, I'm trying to not be one of those people who ask questions that have been answered. But at this point I'm at the end of the road.
I bought a Sprint Galaxy S4, model SPH-L720.
I unlocked it using this method Sprint Galaxy S IV SPH-L720 SIM Unlock Method
Reverted back to MDC baseband and all that good stuff, just as instructed. It seemed to have went well without a hitch.
My question now is:
I want to buy one of these Verizon 4G Sim Activation Kits from walmart
Is it possible that I can buy one of those, insert the SIM into my unlocked Sprint S4, and have a working phone? I ask because I don't want to drop $50 if it doesn't have a chance of working. The instructions for this say that it will work with a VERIZON S4, but since my SPRINT S4 is unlocked, should that be okay?
I don't know much, but in my reading I found that Sprint and Verizon both use CDMA, not GSM. So I figured I had a better chance of this phone working if I go with Verizon because of this.
I am in the United States.

EDIT: would it be possible to test it out, if one of my friends has a verizon phone under contract, and I took their SIM and inserted it into my phone?

Like the guy above me said. Try it. One way to find out. Personally I don't think it would work. As the whole point of unlocking the sprint Gs4 is to use it on GSM networks. From what I know you have to flash the sprint phone to Verizon. Plus you WONT get LTE on Verizon because the bands are not supported. So you'll only get 3g.

thank you for the info! i'm just learning about all of this, so i don't have a firm grip on everything yet.
in the tutorial i used and linked above, the file I used with Odin was actually titled "S4 Flasher", so I believe I unlocked it and flashed it with this? Again, Im sorry, Ive tried searching and am just looking for verification if Im correct.
I'm not worried about LTE, 3G is fine really. Also, I'm not set on Verizon, I just want my phone to work, doesn't matter what network I'm using. If it would be "safer" or a better bet to get into a GSM prepaid, I will do that instead. I was just under the assumption (incorrectly probably lol) that since sprint is CDMA, that going to another CDMA carrier would be easier.

I unlocked my sprint GS4 and went to Cricket. And I've been happier than when i was with Sprint (service wise). I have signal in 98% of the places I go to. Which is a HUGE improvement over sprint. And even though this phone only connects to HSPA+ which is capped at 3.5 Mbps its plenty fast for all my daily activities. So I recommend a GSM prepaid.

I have searched through this forum and cannot find any "GCI" specific rom. What do I need to flash her phone with to enable it to work on GCI?

I would think the best place to ask for firmware is GCI provider. Their network, they should know where and how to get the firmware!

I've been down this road before with my (other) sister's last phone, an S4. GCI said that they don't flash phones. They sent us across the street to Verizon to have them flash it. Verizon said that the phone is unlocked and works for their network, and if we want to use a different network, it is the responsibility of the new network provider to flash the phone. In my S4 sister's case, we just bought her a different phone. I am trying to avoid that with this sister's S5. It is getting kind of expensive to keep buying new phones because of a stinky carrier.
As you can see, this presents a redundant hamster wheel affect.
Perhaps part of the problem is Alaska's GCI service.

So my question would be, should I use GCI? how is the software will be upgrading going forward? I wouldn't mess around with provider that smart enough to support the device. You will have more headache going forward, just my thoughts.

I couldn't agree more! That's why I don't use GCI. However, in Alaska there are limited resources depending upon where you live. For the area they live in, GCI and Verizon are the networks with good signal. Thanks for your thoughts though!
I am a Verizon customer that wants a current-gen bootloader-unlocked phone. Enter the US996. It retails for $800, but there are some eBay auctions that are selling them for much less (used in excellent/mint condition). However, the auctions say that they can ONLY be used on US Cellular service. I asked one seller what the deal was, and this is the response I got:
Thank you for your question. We are not selling the phone as compatible with other carriers or carrier-unlocked. We can't guarantee that the phone will work with an another carrier. We are only saying the phone will work with the carrier US Cellular. We can only guarantee that it works with US Cellular.

It sounds like they're just playing it safe, since they are a US Cellular authorized reseller, and they don't want to take on the responsibility (or policy ramifications) of selling a device that's advertised to work on other carriers. You know... maybe they're not allowed to sell phones that are advertised to work on anything other than USC.

This doesn't make sense to me, because the model numbers should reflect conclusively what the capabilities are, and LG would have no reason to muddy those waters. I can, however, conceive that US Cellular could buy a bulk of US996 phones, and flash a sim lock on them somehow. Perhaps because LG didn't have a SKU for USC set aside. Or perhaps there's a process that, once a USC SIM is used on the phone, it's locked to USC until some subsequent unlock procedure is carried out. (Similar to unlocking a carrier-locked phone for use on another carrier) I don't know, this is all speculation.
So... what is the consensus? Who here is using a US996 on Verizon? Any chance you got it advertised as a US Cellular-only device and it ended up working? Was it an easy process? (ask me about my failed attempt to activate a USC Note 4 - beyond the scope of this thread, but it gives me some contextual knowledge on this topic) I know there are other threads about using the US996 on Verizon, but I'm asking specifically about the possibility that USC has somehow locked them to their service, and in spite of the model number matching the "unlocked version" I wouldn't be able to use it on Verizon.

Although it doesn't seem to make much sense, there are in fact 2 us996 versions. One is the unlocked US version and the other is locked to us cellular. From what I've read they are not interchangeable.
The 996 unlocked is the one that also has the official lg unlockable bootloader.
No idea why they gave 2 different phones the same number but from everything I've read since the phones came out... They did exactly that.

Ha… the only way I can fathom that this happened is that verizon got their own CDMA model number that is denied bootloader unlock, and US Cellular sim-locks the other CDMA-capable model themselves. Maybe there's a monetary cost that USC didnt want to assume associated with having an exclusive model number provided from LG.
In any case… I won't spend much more time pontificating on it if there's no way to use the USC version on Verizon.

I can't say definitively that you can't use it on another network... Only that there's definitely 2 different versions with the same number.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me can give some input on that subject...

Sprint probably can't unlock your VZW S7, you'd need to ask Verizon wireless to unlock it or use a third party service to unlock it.

Flash the U firmware to it and take it into a store , as long as they dont look at the back of the phone they will be under the impression its a 935u and will push through a activation
Unfortunately, I have U firmware on there and they always look at the back. The problem is arising that the IMEI is not in their system and when they try to add it, it fails. Then they dig deeper and I get nothing but run around.
Finally got to someone who explained that they are not allowed to add a S7 (non-edge) to their network. Stupid.
Yeah, Sprint white lists all their devices by the ESN. The only S7s they will activate on their network are "P" variants sold by them or through their authorized channels or original "U" units (flashing to "U" doesn't count). Stupid? Yeah. But that's Sprint.
