I am stumped.
I own an xt1641 since the official update to Nougat I have wifi connectivity issues. I have ruled out my home network and any local interference's on my 2.4 Ghz channel.
In an attempt to resolve this I have rooted and tried several rom's and kernels on my device but the same issue persists.
I will be connected with no issues and then connection drops, sometimes it will recovery rapidly. Other times the device requires me to manually re-connect to the wifi network. The issue is present across multiple wifi networks and seems to be very random. Not sure if this is a hardware issue or firmware/software issue.

May you tell in detail exactly what you try to do while connecting data(like when or how it disconnects automatically).
Try this :
Forget all wifi then connect to single wifi. See if it is connected to it without dropping down. You said you have tried different roms, does connection time changes(eg. like it at start was connecting for 5min then dropped now has increased and is less frequent or is random).
I have never come across with search problem. I do got drops but conditions were applied (like at some conditions only it will drop).
Well if anyone has to know it, they will help you

Ever since I updated my phone from DI01 to DJ05/DL09 I have not been able to get consistent wifi performance on my Fascinate. When I first try to connect to wifi after a reboot a lot of the time it will connect without any problem but not always. After successfully connecting the first time and my screen has been off for a while wifi shuts off and when I turn it back on it will start scanning for access points then it shuts off and turns back on again several times before finally just turning off completely. I was able to connect just fine on DI01 and the problem started when I updated to DJ05. I then updated to DL09 in hopes that it would fix my problem but nothing seems to work. I've tried several different roms and kernals. I have tried to connect to both 802.11g and 802.11n wireless networks (as well as several different routers) with the same problems on all.
While I don't have your exact problem, I've been noticing some strange wifi stuff as well. My Wifi will remain connnected, valid IP address and good signal strength, however I will not be able to pass any data traffic while "connected". For example, the market won't work, "A network error has occurred." If I disable and then re-enable the wifi, it reconnects and data traffic works gain.

That has happened to me as well ever since I got the Fascinate, and it actually happens both with wifi and 3g for me, so I don't think it's a wifi problem. I have yet to find a solution for this, though I suspect it's a software issue, not a hardware one. I can't wait to try out Kaoscinate to see if that fixes it, but there are too many things on that ROM that don't work yet for me to take the plunge, and I would prefer to not have to switch back once I switch over.

I updated my UK Galaxy Note on Vodafone, yesterday. Immediately encountered a WiFi issue. The connection to my wireless router kept disconnecting then connecting, but sometimes didn't actually even connect. I changed the WiFi frequency band setting (Settings>Wi-Fi>Advanced>Wi-Fi frequency band) from "Auto" to "2.4 GHz only" and this seems to have fixed it. It seems like common sense, but I thought I'd post it anyway as people are having issues with their WiFi on ICS.

I had a similar problem. I have a cisco linsys router.
Anyway I flashed the latest modem LR1 using PC odin (modem.bin) and things seem better so far.....

Changing Wi-Fi frequency band) from "Auto" to "2.4 GHz only" didn't fix it for me. Strangest thing is i have no problem with wifi at work while it doesn't work at home wifi. Notebooks get connected to internet at home with no problems when my Note connects wifi but only connects to internet for few secs after first time it gets connected. Then it loses connection to internet even though it still shows up wifi is connected. Any clue on that ?
I've noticed I've been having momentary WiFi disconnections ever since I upgraded to ICS.
I'm using MyPhoneExplorer to transfer files wirelessly to the device (not via USB), and ever since ICS it has became an unreliable way to transfer files. If I transfer a big file most chances are that the WiFi connection will drop during the transfer, causing it to fail.
The connection is restored immediately but then I have to restart the transfer process as it halts when the connection fails.
I have excellent signal level (physically located close to the Access Point), I tried flashing the latest modem firmware (XXLR1) - twice, I've set "2.4GHz only" in the WiFi advanced settings, all to no avail: I still get these connection drops.
Has anybody got any information about this problem? Been experiencing similar problems?
Thanks!
Hi,
Is anyone having an instability issue with WiFi connection? This happens at home and work, but my phone at times disconnects from WiFi. It also struggles to connect to "saved" WiFi at times. For example, I came home today, and it didn't connect to my home network, so i turned wifi off and on, and kept checking it, and it eventually connected. I'm on stock (never rooted this phone) 8.1, but I've had this problem even before updating to 8.1. If you have any suggestions to fix this issue, I'd really appreciate it.
Thank you,
I haven't experienced that behavior. Did you try resetting your network settings? If that doesn't work I would do a full factory reset but if you do it's important to select the fresh start option in setup instead of restoring from a Google backup. The backup restores some system and app data and can easily restore whatever is causing your problem. Sometimes data gets corrupted and your phone needs a fresh start.
i have seen this issue. It only happens on my 5ghz network. When i connect to my 2.4ghz network it is stable.

Thank you for chiming in. This was driving me crazy. I'll try switching to 2.4 and see if it'll go away.

Actually it still disconnected Same result.
I'm having a similar issue where after the phone has slept for a while, the wifi basically doesn't respond anymore until I've turned the wifi fully off and back on. Signal shows fine even though no data flows. Happens both at home and my office. This wasn't an issue at all since owning the phone through all the betas. Only started happening with official Oreo release. Forgetting networks didn't work. I'm not willing to reset the whole device right now, too much to redo. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and has a solution.
I have one phone that sort of logs off. It says "tap to login" it is a google dialogue. It is on my home WiFi at 2.4GHZ. I will be doing a reset within a week to see if it fixes things...
I am doing my Hard Factory Reset now....wish us all luck.
8.1 Oreo broke my Essential, I want it back...
More to come...
Mine was doing that as well, after resetting my router no connection issues.
HARD Factory Reset
Well, it's done.
It has to be done and done as hard as possible. No reinstating ANY previous software settings of any kind.
I linked to my WiFi (non 5G) after reboot, and there has since been no issue.
This doesn't mean the problem has been solved. Days may pass before it surfaces again...
In the meantime, Telus, who provides me this service has stated that an in store test of device should show whether or not this is a warranty issue. Connection to an in-store WiFi should show quickly if it's a firmware issue, and a discussion can begin about device exchange.
That's all for now.
Good luck.

No issues at home or work connected to an N router at home and an AC router system at work. Also no issues connecting to various public WiFi nodes.
I second elkay, same exact problem I'm experiencing. I may consider a hard reset on my phone soon, in hopes that it resolves the issue. Otherwise, I will continue running on my mobile network. Hope an official solution or fix comes soon.
Unfortunately, even a hard reset didn't fix it for me. I did end up buying a new router a couple days ago which does seem to have fixed the issue in my home (was buying a new one due to wifi coverage in corners of the house anyway), but that obviously won't solve the issue at work. Not sure where the incompatibility is. FWIW, I went from a Netgear R7000 to an R7800. Both running DD-WRT with same configuration.
I had this issue with a new PH-1 that updated to 8.1. I was not able to connect to an 802.11n router with cloaked SSID without difficulty, when saved, amidst several other issues, that I attributed to the 8.1 update. I downgraded to 7.1.1 and the wifi issue is resolved.
I just got an Essential Phone during the prime day deals and was experiencing the same issues. Download at 20mb/s for a couple of seconds then tank to 0.2mb/s.
Has anyone tried the latest Android P beta 3? It seems to have fixed my wifi throttling.
My phone was doing OK until a recent update. Now my phone disconnects and reconnects WiFi like crazy. Sometimes a dozen times in a few minutes. This is driving me crazy.
If you do not have Pie on your device load it.
I had serious WiFi connection problems on the last Oreo update but when I got the Pie update they disappeared and the phone has been fine since.
I'm on Pie and I still have this problem where the wifi will drop randomly every minute or two, but sometimes it's fine.
That's bizarre.... I had the one horrible Oreo update (as did a lot of others reporting in here) but since Pie it's been ok. I have both 2.4 and 5Ghz here but usually run on 2.4 as my router is in the next room and 5Ghz doesn't get through the walls nearly as well.
I am facing an issue that my WiFi doens't scan nearby networks.
In my WiFi. It disconnects automatically and then on reconnecting it shows no internet access.
Many times it's not able to connect to a network just saved comes and then WiFi shows to be disabled

It's WiFi bug comes with pie update, contact service centre nearby & ask them to downgrade to Oreo..... they will do it.
I'm really getting disappointed with Nokia day by day. I expected so much. Now I'm seeing stupid issues, like the primary mic not working, and people having wifi bugs. I mean I spent my hard earned money buying this phone, for it to f**k me over in this fashion. They release updates, but they don't do anything about fixing bugs.

Same with me. Never experienced wifi issues.
I'm also facing the same issue now from last 2 days. Any other fix available for this? Other than factory reset or downgrade. Also the restart option doesn't seem to work for me everytime.
Works with other hotspots

I tried using hotspots from my friends and it seems to be working for some reason. No delay in connecting, doesn't get disconnected automatically, doesn't shows no internet. All working fine. Now the question is why with my router at home? Has anyone here tried resetting their routers? Also, are there any compatibility issues going on, if yes then maybe our phone no longer supports old gen routers.
Is anyone else having problems staying connected to WiFi and/or cell service with the international version of this phone? After a while, everything seems to die. Putting it in airplane mode and taking it back out seems to fix it.
See the attached screenshots. The wifi will show connected with issues, and the cell service will be zero signal. After toggling airplane mode, everything goes back to normal.
Yours is IN2025 right? Are you on 10.5.4? I had some wifi issues but not sure if it was the phone or ISP problem. I updated to 10.5.5, haven't had a connectivity problem since. The update log specifically points to addressing connectivity problems

Yep, IN2025, but in 10.5.5. What is funny is that it has not happened once all day. It happened so many times the past few days before, that I was able to tell it was usually after putting it down for a period of time (maybe going I to a deeper sleep?). At this point, I'm hoping it will not come back, but I also know nothing changed to have fixed it either.
I wonder if it is related to the wifi calling bug, where not everyone sees it. I noticed the people who aren't getting wifi calling seem to be connected to APs that allow TKIP. I have Deco M9 Plus "mesh" APs, which are generally great, but don't offer much in the way of advanced configuration options... like not being able to select AES over TKIP.
I guess I'm still having issues. Almost immediately after I posted that reply, I noticed my cellular signal was showing really low. It didn't seem to resolve on its own, so I shut wifi off (wifi seemed fine this time). As soon as I shut wifi off, I got LTE+ mobile data, and the signal strength jumped up. I have only recently actually started to trust the signal strength indicator, after the fiasco with Apple marking them up a bit to make it seem like the signal was stronger.
It should be noted this is a partner tower outside my house (which is usually a strong signal) and not the home cell spot. Not sure why I'm not connected to the latter, as I haven't left the house today (which is usually when I pick that up).
Are you by any chance with Charter/Spectrum ISP? My aging netgear router crashed a few times as I was flashing and rooting but I just kept going so couldn't really tell what was going on. I am with Google Fi and have wifi calling enabled but have not had any issues. I do not have the mobile/wifi linking. I did see on 1+ forum that someone had an issue with his router crashing but I believe he had mobile and wifi connection linking enabled.
