E...first at all i am a chinese. OP5 is more cheaper in China. I see that too many said OP5 is not as good as OP3T. I think s8 is more beautiful, but it HW is weak. U11 is nice too, but is much expensive for me. So what do u think about that 3 phones.
The S8 blows them out the water.
Not held the OP5 yet as not released here yet. I have played with the U11.
I had a OP3 for 11 months. My wife has a OP3T.
Even with the squeeze side screen gimik of the U11, both look dated compared to the S8.
The OP5 looks like it came from 2013. Huge bezels, dated screen etc. You would have to be pretty hard core to choose it over the S8, U11 or G6. Other than having the new snapdragon it doesn't even merit being included in any "flagship" list.
Why do you say the S8 has questionable HW?

How is the S8's h/w weak? Exynos is in some cases better than S-835 and in the case of S-835 a S8 will have the same SoC as the other two. The OP5 has a 1080P display and the camera, although trick, has gotten at best mixed reviews. HTC is on their deathbed - game over. The S8's design, water resistance, and wireless charging will for many be worth the additional money. If it all comes down to price get the OP5. But you're not allowed to buy the OP5 and say "it's as good as the S8" because it's not.
I have an S8 and played around with a HTC U11. I'd say it all depends on what you're looking for. S8 for the "latest and greatest", has an awesome design, fingerprint sensor isn't as bad as some say and the display is gorgeous. U11, as someone above mentioned, looks very dated. The "squeeze" thing is a gimmick, has no headphone jack, but again the HTC has some good things too, its camera isn't bad. Now for the OP5. OP used to have some innovative design, but now the OP5 looks like a carbon copy of an ip7+. It's fast, has good RAM and best, runs on an almost stock Android OS. But its camera isn't that good as advertised and again, looks dated.
But, I suggest the S8. U11 is a terrible option, OP5 isn't bad but the Exynos S8 crushes the OP5 in terms of performance.

Check out the speed test among S8, U11 and OP5. OP5 blows S8 out of water in real life speed, a whopping 26 seconds faster. if you want speed, then OP5. if you want the coolest screen, then S8.
Hi guys, I just went from S7 on OnePlus 5 recently and had it for two days but I hate camera in OnePlus so I'm selling it. My next chooses are S8, HTC U11 or LG G6.
What will be the best choose for me considering that:
- what's the most important for me is video stabilization (even in 1080p) and nice camera app
- I hate fingerprints scanners on the back like in S8 and LG G6
- I love the screen in S8
- I had S4, S5, S6 and S7 before but never had any HTC or LG in my life
- these bezels in U11 aren't a big thing for me. I can accept it. They are like in OP5
Or....I can always make a switch back to the S7 and buy it again haha I just loved that phone and S7 had everything I wished for but I just get bored of Samsungs to be honest.
But on this moment I would choose on HTC, what's your opinion?
Let me know guys, thanks a lot <3
i have the s8, its pretty nice yaeh. switched from the oneplus 3, that phone was faster, but that was about all it had on the s8
@timrock7 - How about that back fingerprint sensor? If Is it great to use? I can't imagine using that on S8 ;/ but I really like to use that feature on other phones with front fingerprint sensor.
Man, if not that sensor on the back I would buy it immidiately ;/

always had a phone with a fingerprint on the front, didnt have to many issues with switching to the back. The only downside is when the phone is lying on the table
In my opinion paying premium for a flagship with last year's CPU is pointless, which leads me to thinnk you shouldn't go for LG G6. Both HTC U11 and S8 are wise choice. U11 has Snapdragon so it will likely have better custom ROM support eventually cause S8 Exynos will never offer fully functional AOSP and US Snapdragon is locked afaik
What about camera comparision between U11 and S8? Which one is better? I saw youtube comparisions but one is on the S8 side and one on U11. Can't really choose a winner here. I saw that photos on S8 have a lot better colors. But Samsung incrases it a lot trough their software.

it really depends on how much you care about the camera and the UI
samsung likely has the best camera. probably more features as well
HTC likely has the better/faster UI
I had OP 3 , then T.
Tried G6, pixel XL and S8.
Have in house Honor8, S7 and some Apple nonsense.
G6 felt sluggish and for a phone sold on its camera, it did not impress.
Pixel XL is pretty good. Great camera , great software. Looks very dated.
S8 just edged it on the camera front.
But as a complete device, it is way out front.
Everything else feels and looks like it is from 2013. FPS on rear has not caused me one single problem.
I'm in the same boat as the OP. Hardware wise the S8 is near perfect, but I really hate all the Samsung bloat. Custom ROMs would help, but I'd lose the camera software optimization provided by the OEM.
The U11 has less bloat and is nearly as good in every respect, but other than software and sound its always #2.

I've tried the OP5 and the Xperia XZ Premium before coming to the S8. I owned the S7E and I swore I wouldn't get the S8 and try something else but after being disappointed by both these 2 and reading review after review I was like **** it gotta try the S8 and if I still don't want it change again. This is were my downfall and love for the S8 came lol, everything about it is quite amazing. The feel of it, the design, camera, graphics, it all just seems they have done it right and its clicked together perfect. I know you can get S8 ports etc for the S7E which i had but the S8 feels so much more than that. The finger print scanner was my main issue of disliking the S8 tbh but it actually works and i mean it works as in placement so easy to use ofc the odd time you move your finger over the camera lense lol but not as often as you would think when you get used to it. Both OP5 and the Xperia had bezels which I didn't mind *until I got this* this screen is beautiful full size and being able to hide the navbar also so nice. As for bloat *what bloat* lol I have it rooted with Reno Ice and NOTORIOUS kernel = all bloat gone and couldn't be happier :good: FYI I'm not a Samsung fanboy in any way trying to promote lol this is my honest opinion to which I explained I swore never to get one
Yeah I too had this decision to make, and considering I'm a photographer, the camera was always going to be one of the key deciding factors. My choices (at the time) were, LG G6, Pixel XL and the S8. After going back and forth over specs and testing different devices I decided on the S8 primarily because it was GORGEOUS and in regard to hardware it covered most (if not all) the bases (good camera, expandable storage, water resistance etc). Always had it in mind that if I didn't like it (as I've never been a Samsung fan - AT ALL) I could sell it and get something else.
That was 2 months ago and within that time this device has made me fall in love with technology all over again. Irrespective of what all the reviews say about the FPS location, its really not a problem, like REALLY. And as for everything else....this device just handles stuff like a boss. The camera is excellent, and yes in certain conditions there may be devices that do a slightly better job, but overall and all round, the S8 IS an outstanding piece of kit. Even with the notorious Samsung bloatware, this device is a pleasure to use, and actually feels like how I envisaged mobile devices would look and feel in the future. My advice, get an S8 (you don't even need to go for the plus, the screen size is awesome), if you end up not liking it, at least it will hold its value so you can purchase something else........but somehow, I don't think you will.
(Disclaimer, 100% not a Samsung fan, in fact have been a HTC stalwart since 2003....but this device is just too good!!!!!!)
I had been using the S8 for a week (and U11 for two days) and the s8 fingerprint scanner is very finicky, so I opt to use iris, facial, or pattern to unlock. U11 fingerprint scanner is much better. Also, the audio on the U11 earbuds are full and more detailed (USB C) compared to the included earbuds in the S8, but do prefer having the 3.5mm jack.
Are some minor camera differences. Both good in daylight, but at night the U11 bumbs up the ISO (on Auto) too high causing a lot of grain.
But overall, I like the S8 more. To me, it has more features, AMOLED Display (the U11 display looks good for lcd but I did have 1 pixel that was stuck on red), and I got the S8 for $450 after the $200 trade, while the U11 is $680 with tax. So not worth the price difference. I actually found the U11 a bit boaring.

Unless if the rom is still stock based and edited, you still have the same camera. Also, there's even camera add-ons for the S8.
Bloatware is not a problem at all. We can remove almost everything manually so yea...I'm only afraid of that fingerprint sensor on S8, don't know what to think about it. I need to drive to the nearest phone store and test both S8 and U11.
Hey guys i'm looking to buy a new phone (currently using the nexus 5x) and i've got my sights on the G6 or S7 Edge . The phones will be european versions so H870 and G935F . I would like to know if the G6 has any issues like bootlooping or overheating , how is the overall performance , battery life in general information of the device what you like in it and what you dislike . My personal points for upgrading are battery life coz i get a max of 3hrs sot with lets say an hour of gaming listening to music and messenger and the performance because the 5x throttles hard . Does the H870 come with anything like amp or wireless charging ?
Great hardware, ok software, very late updates
If you want screen on time I would look at Lenovo P2. 12-13 SOT, SD625 SOC, 5100Mah battery and amoled screen and over 4 days on standby for approx £225. Ok the camera is pants but everything else is great. G6 looks great but battery standby performance is rubbish. Either root it or gamble that Oreo will sort this out. S7 good phone but those bezels are sooo big and the edge is a bit of a gimmick. Have you considered Honor 9? Specs look good. I chose G6 H870DS over S7 but now wish I had bought a Lenovo P2. Good luck.

From Huawei i looked up to the P10 but i see on the xda threat that it has minor custom rom, kernel, apps community but its a viable option . Im looking for good screen on time not the best but good enough for lets say 5 hours sot that will get me easily through the day also im looking for good performance in games and the wide angle lens seems sweet.
I make 5 h SOT easy , and i had the huawei p10 plus and i can say , LG G6 has better gaming performance than the p10 plus , i run pes2018 with no problem , the huawei had very lag so i couldn't play it
The camera is desapointing , the p10 is much better ( my opinion , dont judge me )
The p10 also looks faster in everyday use , opening apps , switching apps etc...
Interesting, I own a S7 Edge (Snapdragon) and a G6, but not the models you've listed running stock. I'll point out the main stuff first for the G6 that you wanted to know:
Bootloop: Not yet, but afraid of. I bought the G6 because it was ~ 250usd!
Overheat: No overheat for my G6.
Performance: My G6 is smooth... I don't think the Exynos is better than that.
Battery: The G6 has an odd idle battery drain, heavy use is fine. I get 5~7 SOT with heavy use, but seems like no one else gets 7 hours.
Wireless Charging: Seems like only US/Canada and G6+ come with that. S7 Edge has it.
Amp: Do you mean for audio output? The G6 without quad-dac is for low impedance headphones, like very low... the Exynos S7 Edge doesn't have the same internal DAC as I have so I can't comment on that.
I think you'll get used to the G6 faster than the S7 from the Nexus 5x. The navbar, the fingerprint sensor, closer to stock android than Touchwiz... but you may want something different .
For extra stuff, read below
LG G6:
Wide-angle (but check the 2.09 vs 2.01mm lens : https://www.reddit.com/r/lgg6/comments/7gqln4/lg_g6_is_produced_with_2_versions_of_wide_angle/)
Different aspect-ratio, may see black bars for 16:9 picture/videos
FM Radio
Navigation bar
IPS Display -> Screen retention only (no nav buttons/status bar burn-in)
Power button is at the back (odd if new to LG G series)
Fingerprint at the back like the 5x
S7 Edge:
Better front and back camera
Wireless charging
Vivid screen colors and deep blacks
Screen burn-in
Custom roms from xda? it seems to have great support for your model
Rumored 3rd year of update as the rumored Oreo update for the S6
Hardware buttons, my home button has a weird click noise now.
Curved screen, this is gorgeous but I don't like to watch videos on it, especially the subtitles that goes with the curve and it is hard to get and apply a screen protector that covers the entire thing!
Anyways, hope it helps
The G6 is in my opinion a good all round phone and does most things very well. It will easily get you through the day with 5 hours SOT but will need recharging every night. I have never had any issues with the phone overheating, lagging or crashing. The phone is very well built and it’s quality is in a different league to the G5. Personally this is the best smartphone camera I have used and the wide angle lens is a useful addition. The screen and the lack of bezels are what attracted me this phone along with the fact that it cost me half the original price 3 months after its launch.
What annoys me most is the fact that LG are very slow to update with security patches and more importantly android updates. There is a well known problem with poor standby battery drain in Nougat that some other manufacturers have addressed. Losing 15-20% of battery overnight is rubbish and we are hoping Oreo might improve this. LG sell a lot less phones than Samsung or Apple and have less resources/staff to develop products and update firmware. So whilst they are sorting Oreo for th V30 and developing the G7 we might have to wait well into 2018 for a G6 Oreo update. I so hope I am wrong!

Very useful information ! I looked at the G6 because the S7 Edge is getting 2 years old in about 3 month and the G6 is basically on par with the S7 Edge for specs and i see it as ''more future proof'' than the S7 Edge because of the design and dual camera setup . My only concern is the bootloop and that i saw reviews of the G6 having inconsistent performance and getting pretty hot , also because a friend of mine has the G5 idk if the G6 is even comparable to the G5 but he had a world of trouble with it 6 months into owning it he had to sent it in for a screen replacement then a battery replacement also it fragmented his data once. All I want is a better phone than the 5x with better battery and some kind of "future proof".

Yeah I agree that the G6 looks more future proof with the design.
For the bootloop I'm not sure because I'm new to LG, I made sure to buy somewhere that LG would offer a warranty.
Your friend's case seems to be an immense trouble hahaha, he probably hates LG by now lol
Anyways, better phone overall is subjective so I can't decide for you with that , even if the 5x is from 2015.
Edit: And the batteries from both should in general be better than the 5x

Really not sure what to tell you about that...
Both have high resolution displays (QHD and QHD+), but I think the G6 has crisper images without looking at the ppi thing. Make sure to turn on QHD (1440p) for the S7 Edge! It is FHD (1080p) by default on Nougat. Just go to Display -> Screen Resolution.
Brightness I don't know, they both seem bright enough... for anything?
The S7 Edge has a little green tint near the 2 edges (left and right). With adaptive display on, the white is more white than the LG, the black is always more black, greater contrast, The colors are saturated. You can change the settings if you find it too vibrant by going to Display -> Screen mode.
The G6 has a cold display (blue tint everywhere). Colors are less vibrant compared to the S7 Edge. If you want, you can try going to accessibility -> vision -> screen color ajustment, tap on manual and slide a bit down the circle for higher contrast. It supports HDR, but seems to be useless for me as I don't use it at all.
The red on the G6 is like the red from a regular ballpoint pen that I was not used to. On the S7 Edge the red is a little bit orange which seems to be normal? The blue and green are similar, only that the S7 Edge's color is always more vibrant/popping to my eyes.
My opinion: I really don't mind which one I use, I have seen way worse screens.
Other issues that I have seen in real life (not on mine)
S7 Edge: Pink vertical line, Burn-in on the status bar
G6 : White bleed
In the end, I think the best thing to do if you have time, is go to a shop that has the S7 Edge and the G6 as a demo, take some time to compare those 2 if you are still focused on those 2, experience with those, and then choose the one you like .
Feel free to ask more questions if you want
Side note:
Are you planning to use emulators (NDS, PSP) on your device? I find the LG's display size better for those, more space for the controls. Also, I don't feel comfortable using an OLED because the controls may damage the display...
I'm waiting for my G6 to be delivered.
I did have a Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus....which was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC on every level...battery life, performance etc....definitely beats the G6 in every way possible.
BUT, I cracked the screen on my S8...so sold it on Ebay and advertised it with the cracked screen and I had 51 bids and it soled for £400.00 !! AMAZING!
So I Bought a brand new LG G6 on Ebay for £260....lol can't fault the bargain!
Last LG I owned was the G3..which was awesome, even though the G6 screen is small compared to S8 Plkus...i'm hoping its gonna be a good phone anyway.

Thanks I may check that emulator out!
Better autofocus I don't know, they both focus on the right thing but what I've notice is that the S7 edge is faster at focusing. By the way, something that I forgot to mention is that the S7 can have a sony or a samsung sensor. I have the sony one.
Assuming (and we all are almost certain now) that the leaked images of pixel 3xl are right, and assuming the Chinese manufacturers who started making screen protectors and cases for the P3XL are accurate, i wanted to see how bad the notch could be in real life, and compare sizes with P2xl, so i bought one of the Chinese screen protectors for p3xl and started comparing it to my P2xl.
I can confidentially say that P3xl is 95% or more in size with P2xl, to a level that we can say ITS a P2xl with a screen stretched up around the notch..
You can see in the attached photos, putting the P3xl screen protector over the P2xl screen, the notch is as deep as the top bezel of P2xl, and the bottom bezel is almost identical in each..
Size is also identical, both phones have the same overall size (in screen protector photo over the back of P2xl)
Side bezels are more slimmer for my eyes..
Photos attached should clear everything out..
Thanks for clearing that i dont need to buy pixel 3 this year ?

What he said!!
This is definitely going to be a dud, sticking with the Pixel 2 XL.
My Pixel 3xl is looking more and more like a OnePlus 6t!
Versus the Pixel 2 XL:
-Most likely a very similar LG P-OLED display (but notched): Nothing groundbreaking
-Still 4GB of RAM: So don't expect less app reloads
-Snapdragon 845: Slightly faster than the Snapdragon 835 in real-life usage, probably not even noticeable in most scenarios
-Supports wireless charging: Cool feature but not exactly a game changer (Coming from a Galaxy S7 edge, I don't miss it)
-Smaller battery
The only question mark that remains is the camera: Will it be vastly superior to the already great Pixel 2 XL camera? I have a strange feeling the hardware (sensor, lenses, etc.) will be the same, with only a tweaked camera app (that will be ported for the Pixel 2 XL anyway)
The more I think about it, the more I struggle to understand why the Pixel 3 XL exists.
It exists for OG Pixel owners to upgrade to.

Usually people upgrade every 2 years. The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL may not be much better than the Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL since they're only a year old, but it's a pretty good upgrade from the original 2 year old Pixel or Pixel XL. Personally I can't wait to get a Pixel 3 XL. It will be a massive upgrade from my dying Nexus 6P.
People ***** and moan about the notch and chin, but I think the Pixel 3 XL is a fine looking device. I guess I'm like one of those parents who thinks their child is adorable even though it's ugly as sin...

Exactly - if you hide the notch via blacking out its "corners", the Pixel 3 XL will look decent - almost like the 2 XL. If there is no default option for this, I'm sure that there will be Substratum overlays to do so.
I won't upgrade my 2 XL this year, this is completely pointless. But if my contract would be due for a new device, I'd definitely get the 3 XL.
The Pixel 3 is simply not worth upgrading from the Pixel 2. We get the camera update, same amount of RAM, the only major change is the processor from 835 to 845. Definitely not worth the money, considering how fast depreciation ocurrs. Most of the High End devices, LGV40, Galaxy S9, Pixel 3, seem to be at a standstill when it comes to any significant upgrades from their successor. The. Previous versions are nearly identical, Qualcomm 835 vs 845 is minimal, camera improvements are insignificant, with possible exception to the LG V40s 5 camera system. Anyone upgrading to latest version from previous versions is wasting money.
Someone here switched from Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge to Redmi note 7 ?

I would like to know if it's à good idea to switch from S7 to redmi note 7 And how is good thé Xiaomi in picture, screen, speakers, battery life, power compared to s7.
Thank you.
Didn't have an S7 but did have a Note 4 Exynos and Honor 8 before I got the Redmi Note 7phone.
Honestly, speed will probably feel about the same since S7 had the Snapdragon 820 processor.
Gaming performance will probably be about the same as well.
The screen isn't amoled so if that matters to you, you're probably better skipping the Redmi Note 7 and getting the Mi 8(snapdragon 845) or the newer Mi 9(snapdragon 855 with quad hd and dual speakers).
Either of those will definitely be an upgrade to your S7 in multiple ways...
Processor, functionality, performance, build quality, battery life, camera, gaming etc
Mi 8 can now be had for under $400 new as well if price matters to you
Thank you for responding.
My S7 is exynos one and I know that Mali GPU is more powerfull for gaming. S7 has à good display but it's too little and had burn in.
I want to know how is thé remdi's camera compared to S7 has a good One. My brother buyed à redmi Note 5 pro and S7 photos are much better

I'm not sure... S7 photos may be a little better since it was the flagship of the year a couple years back.
If you're worried about photos, I'd get the Mi 8 or if you can afford... Skip the Xiaomi budget line altogether and go straight for the The Mi 9.
Don't get me wrong... Redmi Note 7 or it's twin brother Mi 8 Lite are both spectacular phones especially for the money to value quotient. They pack a hell of a punch and are popular globally for a reason but coming from the S7, if you're not willing to compromise a little bit in the area of video and photo quality, you're better off shopping for a Xiaomi flagship.
Either phone (Mi 8 or Mi 9) is the flagship experience you want but the Mi 9 will blow you away and be the true upgrade you're looking for

I just got a Redmi Note 7 today, and it will replace a ZTE Axon 7 (Snapdragon 820, like the US version S7), so I'm in a similar position.
Haven't used it much yet, but initial impressions are very good. I just run some tests on both phones in Geekbench Pro, and the Redmi Note 7 won in some areas, while the Axon 7 still smoked it in some tests. You're right, the overall performance should feel pretty similar to the S7.
Benchmarks aside, I'm happy to have a new device that is fully up to date - stock Pie (that I'll dump in favor of LOS as soon as I'm able, haha), a big battery and efficient CPU, a really fast fingerprint scanner in a natural position (meaning NOT on the front), a big screen (any bigger wouldn't fit my pocket), VOLTE, a decent camera, and some support on XDA. It took me a while to decide to buy it because I was concerned about it not having an OLED screen but now I don't think it's going to be an issue - it looks good. Works with Mint Mobile (T-Mobile) here.
Only Day 1, but I'm satisfied so far, especially for $200!
RN7 is way better .. except for the sound quality and the weight (rn7 is heavy lol)
These guys have nailed it!
Think you'll be happy with the phone especially for the price.
I know I am.
Use it for a while.... If you don't like it, sell it for a more expensive flagship.
For me it's so good I don't feel the need to have a flagship phone anymore!
Just saw a review on Amazon with someone who mentioned they upgraded to the Redmi Note 7 from an S7 and raved about it.
Check out the review for the Blue 4GB RAM/64GB version.
It's one of the newer reviews.

I finally replaced my S7 and for now I am completely satisfied except the camera. I will test Gcam and see the result...

I got it this morning and yes, the redmi is so heavy. Sound Quality is better on xiaomi but i was using dual speaker sounds on S7 wich makes a plaisent stéréo effect. Camera is a bit better on S7 Thanks to live HDR, dual pixel technology and à good noise réduction.
That's awesome!
Can't wait until you try GCam.
Think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Also try open camera for 4K video recording?

Yes Redmi note 7 is next level in term of screen size, entertaining purpose, everyday all around. Battery life 2 days on minimal use. Picture not as good as s7 edge
I replaced Huawei P10 whit RN7 and I'm surprised how better it is comparing to P10. Screen picture quality is way better and camera whit Gcam too. P10 have Leica lense blā, blā, but I don't like Leica look and that camera overexposes picture, loses detail in texture whit smoothing, makes picture to oversaturated and colors too neutral. RN7 whit GCam is neutral, exposes good and colors are good. If You like overprocessed pictures then You might want different camera app.
P10 is not S7, but I can say this phone is good. Only complains are weight, and writing is a bit hard for Me in position as I hold the phone. Of course there is minor things like screen is a bit less bright comparing to P10, plastic body, speaker can be more clear, still usb 2.0, no nfc, no IP rating etc. If You don't want to spend alot of money on phone as I do then this is solid choice. For that extra 250€ I would spend on phone I can buy alot of different things for Me.
Both my wife and I just bought the RN7 yesterday to replace both of our S7 Edge, personally I notice the screen resolution difference between the two, I miss the notifications staying at the top, miss the app draw and the camera start up speed is a lot faster than the RN7. The main reason why we switched though is the battery life, both of ours are the US version which use the Snapdragon CPU which only give us around 4 hr SOT, and I pretty much have to charge 2 or 3 times a day (yah on my phone all day long ) , now with the RN7, without doing anything, I just got 8 hr SOT with 10% left ....so yah wire free all day and way cheaper than a flagship Samsung, I know I can get over the cons very soon.

Plus we can help you negate some of the flaws
To get the original look with the added app drawer, install Poco Launcher from the Play Store and you're done with that part.
Screen res? Can you actually notice S7's higher pixels per inch count? Nothing to do about that though.
To overcome the lack of permanent notifications at the top, install Notch Test (Notifications for MIUI) and set up the position, give all permissions to the app, autostart, set battery restrictions to none, and lock it in the app switcher so MIUI can't kill it off. I have the icons position set to 215 from the left and 36 from the top. Works great and mitigates the issue completely (issue for those of us not coming from MIUI, accustomed to "permanent" notifications).
Camera start-up - nothing to do about that unless Xiaomi updates the firmware to do so. GCam takes even more to start, but the image it produces is more than worth the wait.
