Really one of my only gripes is lowest setting is still quite bright. I had to turn off adaptive display to make it actually dim.
At first I thought I got a defective phone as the screen was terribly dim next to my AMOLED Moto Z Play. I disabled adaptive brightness and the screen came to life! This phone seems to have a poor implementation of adaptive brightness which dims the screen to unacceptable levels. I use the lux app rather than built in adaptive brightness and now the screen looks great all the time.

It's just OK, not one of the dimmest screens I've seen. My Oneplus 3 goes REALLY dim, to the point I sometimes have to turn it slightly higher so I can see the content. My Z3 was not very dim at all. I had to use those filter apps to be able to use it in bed. The XZ1C is right in between the OP3 and Z3. It's dim enough not to bother me too much, but I wouldn't mind having a dimmer screen.
The auto brightness function is too aggressive I think, even a slight tilt of the phone towards me the phone quickly dims the screen as if I'm in a dark room

Its pretty dim at night or in dark..
agree, very dim, no need really any overlay/night filter apps, built in blue light filter affects only warmth of colors, not brightness
built in blue light filter and brightness set to minimum helps to use phone even in dark conditions.
The phone can get nice and dim, but also comes with an eye comfort mode which kicks on at night.
I don't like min brightness at night even in eye comfort mode. I feel pain, it should be lower bright
Good
I think it's good

This device can basically go extremely extremely dark when on the lowest brightness, to the point where it's even difficult to see indoors with the lights on.
Yes, coming from a Samsung phone.. I'm having issue finding the correct dimmed color temperature for night reading. It's actually hurting and straining my eyes. Any setting I should be aware of? I have turned on eye comfort mode to the warmest.

The minimum brightness is better than any other phone I have & had.
The bad thing is that the brightness slider does not feel linear.
It's like the brighter half of the settings takes about 80% of the slider.
Which makes getting the right brightness in the darker half of the spectrum very fiddly and annoying.
I really hope they can tweak that...

I do have a complaint about the adaptive brightness on the 10L. It seems to decide it should put the brightness almost all the way down from time to time which can be annoying. My other Android 11 devices have adaptive brightness on but do not react so strongly.
Minimum brightness appears to be able to get darker than some other phones I have here.
