It does happen with me sometimes, and when it does, I only plug the usb cable for a second and remove it. the problem disappears immediately.
It could be because when the X10 reaches 100% while charging it stops automatically and let itself use the battery instead until it goes to 95% then recharges again. So when I unplug the usb cable during this process the phone goes on thinking it's still charging

X10i not turning on / charging

Hi guys,
Suddenly facing a strange problem since last night.
My x10i was running out of charge & i connected to the comp to charge while i was working. I noticed the charging speed was extremely low, so i restarted the phone to see if it would help. Did not.
Thought there is some problem with the cable, used a different cable as well, but no use.
The slow charging had stopped and eventually the phone died.
Tried connecting to the socket & charging, still no use.
The red led blinks when i connect the phone to a charger via the usb or the socket.
needless to say the phone does not even boot up now, obviously for no charge...
any ideas wat maybe wrong or wat i could do ?
please advice
Have you tried to let it charge for some time in off mode? As long as your battery is not dead, and the phone get the right voltage through the USB connector it should charge in an "emergency mode". This is a slow way of charging, but allows for charging without any electronic circuits to monitor it, it is not the same as the charging screen that usually displays when you connect the phone while it is powered off. Usually when a phone is completely discharged it needs to be connected at least 15 min, sometimes a lot longer, before the electronics kicks in, and starts the speedcharging.
My best advise would be to connect it to the mains charger, or a USB port you KNOW supplies power. Some laptops cut down on the powersupply to the USB ports when they run on battery. Let it be connected for a long time (several hours), and then try to power it on again.
If that does not help three things can be wrong
1. Somewhere the USB connection is broken, either in the cable or in the connector on your phone (or on the PC's connector, but that is less likely).
2. The battery is dead, modern batteries contain circuits that actually disables the battery when any given parameters gets outside the defined limits. This is to prevent the battery catching fire. On some batteries this renders the battery useless, and you need a new battery.
3.) The mainboard of your phone is dead, and hence nothing works, can be ruled out if you can borrow a battery from someone to test if your phone works then.
I hope a good and long charge can sort out your problem, that is the easiest fix, and it is free.
Hi O_K,
well, i have been charging (or trying to) the phone since it died last night.
i have used different chargers & different modes of charge (through the system & the wall socket) - no joy at all.
the LED blinks red a couple of times when connected.
Very occasionally, the SONY ERICSSON logo (startup) shows on the screen & it switches off again, back to the blinking.
So charging for a long time & through different chargers has not helped.
gonna try a different battery now to see if that can help.
Thanks for your response!
well, tried switching chargers & batteries.
The problem seems to be with the charging unit on the phone (USB)
with any charger or battery, wen connected the led blinks (like wen the phone is charging), but there is no charge happening.
eventually the phone dies, even if charging
any ideas?
There is a thread some where in this forum for fixing the same problem you have...I don't remember the exact name of the thread..if I find it I'll post the link here..Anyways what the guy did was
-Pull the battery out and connect the charger till the led turns green.
-put in the battery now and charge the phone...
and I think that was it.
Hope it helped..
EDIT: Found the link.

[Q] USB charging issue

When i charge my phone from a wall charger it charges perfectly all the way up to 100%. However if i charge it using my pc from its usb port using a usb cable it usually charges upto only 14% and then gets stuck at it, charging is also very slow compared to charging with the wall charger and i do also sometimes get random reboots when charging it with my pc using usb. So how do i fix this issue as i do not currently own a wall charger of my own and have to borrow it from my cousin
Problem solved
so i figured out what the problem was and now it's charging all the way upto a 100%.
instead of plugging the usb cable using a usb extension or on my casing's USB port i plugged it directly into the USB 2.0 port at the back of my mother board and it started charging normally again . no random reboots etc. So please close the thread

Trouble with charging---USB Port broken?

Since 4 Days i experienced something weird.
When i want to charge my Note 4 i connect the Fast Charger to it. It is recognized as Fast Charging devioce and the device starts loading. 5 seconds later the device stops charging, 1 sec after that it restarts charging. Then it stops after 3 seconds and then again it starts. Sometimes my note (instead of charging) opens the Gear Vr app or tells me it is connected with a dockingstation.
So i tried using my Galaxy s5 charger. the problem goes on...charging..stop..charging..stop...charging..stop..so i looked at my usb port and cleaned it....nothing..no dirt...with the s5 charger iam able to find a position in which the phone starts to charge.
any suggestions?

Try the Hama MO•38É.
The MO 38E has Quick Charging and Healthy Trickle Charging and is VERY ROBUST!
0-100% in just 35 Min for the Note 4 (don't blame me, if my information is wrong)
0-50 % in just 20 Minutes ☺☻
I don't want to advertise with it but i made good experience with the MO 38E!

This is a very weird issue. Best suggestion would be to bring it back to Samsung for repairs.
Before you send it back, try using a Blower or compressed air can to clean both the USB cable and the phone's micro USB port. Or maybe try a different Cable.
The problem sounds like a hardware issue because a) the second charger provides the same results, and b) there's a special position where charging commences - if I understood the OP right.
So I fear it's something like a bad soldering joint at the USB port. :/
Kenney: Try compressed air; maybe it's just a tiny fracture of metal sticking somewhere in the port.
this is why i use a Qi charger lol. nothing to break and the phone ports stay undamaged.

hy bro i am having the same problem that you mentioned so did you find a solution plz let me know.
This is a problem that is entirely too common on ANY phone that uses a micro USB socket for charging. The whole design of this type of socket is pathetically fragile and (imo) totally unsuitable for regular plugging in to.....
I have owned/do own several Galaxy devices, on 2 of them, the socket has failed and a 3rd device is showing early signs of the same failure.
My wife's current device is the Note 4 and mine is the S5....Both have this (stupid) micro USB socket......
For both of these devices, I have purchased a second battery and an external wall charger......simply because I DO NOT TRUST that the connectors in these phones will last the length of the contracts they were purchased under.....

This is also happening to me. Any solution to this?
Done some research.......
The USB socket is directly soldered to the surface of a 'daughterboard' (a separate board connected to the main/motherboard by a flat 'flex' cable).
The connectors on the socket are *tiny* and totally unsuitable for hand soldering, so the entire daughterboard will need replacing.
I don't know how difficult it will be to replace the board, but if it's anything like the S5, the screen will have to be removed in order to access it.......A very delicate and none too easy part to remove..........
.......and if the board follows the same pattern as with the S2, there will be multiple variants of it, none of which is interchangeable...meaning you have to find the right one.
Most Samsung devices come with a 2 year warranty (at least in the EU) so my advice is to get a warranty repair......

okay so I think my USB port might just be broken.. because I tried with sky-high kernel also.. still says cable charging.. and it’s not even AC charging, it says USB even though it’s plugged into an outlet. I tried with multiple cables too..same thing. USB charging :/

Yep.....that does sound like a classic symptom of a port failure......
And as you mention custom kernels, I wouldn't count on Samsung repairing it under warranty.....you have probably tripped knox, so Samsung is likely to say 'not our problem'......

Galaxy s5 won't charge, please help urgent!

Phone had been acting up since Monday night . At first it wouldn't charge with the original charger on the wall outlet so I plugged in the USB to my PC and it was charging perfectly fine. Then all was good until yesterday night when it stopped charging on the wall. It started giving me some error about using a sharing cable (wtf?!) Then I figured OK maybe I should connect it to my PC. So I connect it and it wouldn't charge at first but then it did. Then I started looking up for a solution because I need my phone to work ASAP and it charges way to slowly on my laptop. Everyone was saying do a factory reset, remove the battery put bit back in, maybe charging port is faulty . Then I tried using another cable , I used my sisters s4 USB 2.0, connected it to the wall and it sort of gave it power for like 50 seconds then stopped. Now I'm losing patience here, I go back and forth between cables and wall to PC etc I gave up and turned my.phone off for the night. Wake up , plugged in the wire to my PC and the charging icon with the bolt in it comes on for 5 seconds then turns back off and comes back on . This repeats itself and doesn't stop. This happens when the phone is off and is connected to either the wall or my laptop.

Tldr: phone doesn't charge at all. But when turned off, charging logo appears for 5 seconds then comes off and back on and repeats this cycle over and over. Still not gaining charge

Did you try buying a new cable and plug, also what Rom are you on.
Well right now I'm using a different cable and charger block , I'm using this very very small USB 2.0 cablebi had from a old Nokia and my nexus 7 charger block . And it's still not working. And I'm on stock Lollipop , updated my phone on Monday night ! Had the problem a bit before and exactly after the update to 5.0 !

It's your phone indeed, Is your lollipop rom modified in any way or rooted?
It actually WAS rooted before the update! I had it rooted through towelrooot but i unrooted it via supersu so i could install the 5.0 update
So your counter is still 0x0, if so I say take it back to t-mobile or whatever company you bought or you can try buying a wireless charger

SO i have to take it back to my carrier? What if my usb charger COVER fell off? you know the thing that you have to open to plug your usb in and you close when youre done, yeah well that thing fell off the other day and i didnt bring it in contact with water or anything so idk what to do right now
You can find those on amazon for pennies on the dollar
Try cleaning the battery pins on the back of your phone or the battery itself... I experienced the same thing... All I did was file the pins 1 or 2 times and it got fixed. Or maybe try cleaning the USB port of your phone... Base on what you're saying I can say it's just a connection issue that needs cleaning.
