My Phone Died! - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

Ok I just updated the phone used it all day went to bed with 46 percent battery life. Plugged the charger in. I wake up and pushed the finger print scanner, nothing? Pressed the power button, nothing?
Any suggestions?

Try holding power button until boot. Had same issue my first day with phone.

It's back from the dead!
I changed usb cables and held the power button for about 15 seconds and it finally booted up. It was at full charge so it wasn't a cable issue.
I'm kind of getting used to this phone but it still has some quirkiness to it

good call
Wow ... exactly 15 seconds of the power button held and it booted. Nice call!

worked for me too!

[Q] HELP! My DX won't turn on

My DX is not turning on. The battery died and so the phone cut off and when I plug the charger in nothing happens and it won't turn on when the charger is plugged in. I have tried everything I can think of - pulled the battery and put it back in, held the power button down, held the power button and home row keys down, held the power button and camera keys, and I'm out of ideas. Can anyone help?
Take out the battery and hook it up to the wall charger. You should see a battery with a question mark. Then insert the battery and see if it recognizes the battery.
I just took the battery out and left it out for like 15 min and then put in back in and it worked. Thanks for your reply however, I really appreciate it!
phones won't start with a dead battery.. don't forget to charge -_-
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
just something for anyone else who has this issue in the future when my DX dies its a ***** to re-start i usually have to hold the power key down for 10-20 secs then it will start or show the battery logo

Won't turn on D:

So today I left my tablet to charge, it was at like 25% left, while I went to out to my practice. When I returned about 2 hours later, it wouldn't turn on. Before I had left, it was charging so it's not that it ran out of power because the outlet didn't work. I switched the outlets, plugged it into a computer, pressed the power button a bunch of times; nothing. Perhaps I got a defected unit or downloaded a bad app? I don't know :/; ideas?

try holding down the power button for 15 seconds
Hold the power button 15 seconds, let go, then try again for another 7 seconds.
Wow, that actually worked, thank you so much (held it till it turned on, about 10-15 seconds). Would you happen to know why it had just turned off like that? I'm at 81% battery now, so it turned off at some point on its own, and why did I have to do such a long power button press?

i believe there is a sleep mode/lock hiccup sometimes. I experience it with my media dock but not my keyboard dock. its weird and sometimes annoying but not too much to kill my day lol
Yeah this happened to me too. Just a small quirk.
Oh, ok, thanks guys lol I had like freaked out.
I got my Tab yesterday. Used it then set it charging overnight. Won't power on this morning. The back does get warm though. I tried holding down the power button for at least a minute and also tried the 15 then 7 approach. Nothing.
I also tried an idea from a different forum (referencing a Froyo glitch) and tried touching the screen while holding the power button.
Does this sound like a hardware fail?
I had the same problem. Held the power button for 15 seconds and then 7 and nothing happened. Held the power button for a long time. What do I do next?
Mine didnt turn on today. Tried the 15 second press procedure and nothing happened. I grabbed my wall charger and plugged it in and left it sitting there for a minute. I tried the 15 second procedure again and this time the screen lit up and was showing that the battery was charging because it was in red. After about a minute the tab booted itself and all is normal now. I guess my battery went dead since i hadnt charged it and completley turned off my tab. Thats why it rebooted itself. Nothing to worry about.
happened to me too
looks like there is a glitch ... mine was left charging today ... and it did charge but did not want to start... i did leave it on.
I connected to PC and press Power ON + Volume Up + VOlume down all at the same time and it did seem to restart ... worried there is something wrong with it though.
I bought it in USA and Im in UK I wonder if things go wrong if Samsung UK would repair it.
I've had it for about 9 days and have used it every single day. Last night I downloaded 2 movies onto it and everything was fine. Today it would not power on one bit! I charged it over night so the battery shouldn't have drained. I ended up fixing my problem by doing the following:
Held the power button.
At the same time, placed a finger on the screen.
Held it down for 15 seconds or more and it booted up!
Not sure why it only worked when I put my finger on the screen.
I ended up exchanging it either way just in case.

this also happened to me for the first time this morning from leaving it on charge overnight.
however i was able to start it by removing cable and holding power for 15secs.
what could be causing this? I hope it doesn't happen every night.
I had this problem as well a few weeks ago. Samsung sent me a shipping label and told me to ship it back. I got it back in just under 10 days. They never did tell me what was wrong but they shipped back my original Tab.
Guys,
Is this happening when you leave it booted up and charging overnight or is the unit powered off and charging?
I will say that this issue has only happened to me one time and it happened under the following conditions (Ive had a Tab sense launch day):
- Battery was at 35%.
- While booted, I plugged it in to charge overnight.
- The next day at 09:00 I attempted to use it and had to hold the power button for 15 sec to get it to boot.
So, It *might* only happen if its booted with low battery and you charge it overnight. Powering it off and charging doesnt appear to cause it at all in my case.
Yes it happened while powered on and left to charge overnight. Battery was probably around 30-40% as you said.
Still doesn't explain why it would happen regardless of the % of battery left. Hence the reason it's meant to be charging.
I've had it happen very quickly. High level of charge, plug it in, walk off, come back, unplug, and it's dead, need the 15 second press to power back on.
Not a huge deal, but annoying. And a bit scary, since mine went into the "sleep of death" once already, took four days for the battery to drain enough to break the nvflash loop it was in.

My Nexus 10 will not power up!!!

I have been enjoying my Nexus 10 for about 3 months now and it has been great!!!
Last night after some gaming and surfing the battery was at about 1/4. I had plugged it in the night before and it was about 95% charged in the morning after similar usage, so this time I decided to turn it off and charge as apposed to letting it sleep.
Well this morning no love it just does nothing. I can plug it in and the battery icon will come on when I hit the power button but that it. I have done 30 sec power button, Tried power with VOL + and -, Power and just +, Power and just -, But still nothing!!!
What to do???
Thanks for any input you guys can provide...
OK I fixed it!!!
It was a very odd issue.
I noticed that when it was plugged in and I hit the power button for about 5 sec a battery with lightning bolt icon would appear on the screen. Just out of curiosity and trying every other damn thing I held the power button until said battery icon appeared and quickly unplugged the power from the USB port. This caused the battery icon to stay on for like 10 sec and then it did the quick buzz. Woohoo I was in luck!!! I plugged it back in and hit the power button and it fired up.
What was unexpected was that the battery was completely flat! 0%
I had it plugged in all night and it was in this state. For some reason it would not take a charge but me pulling the plug at the time the battery icon showed up for some reason got it out of that loop and it started taking a charge.
Anyway hope this helps someone else that has this issue.

Glad you fixed it.

Help Pls. My Nexus 7 2013 wont turn on.

It won't turn on even the battery icon is absent when I try to charge it. Also when I hold the power button for 15 seconds it only blinks/pulse 3 times(notification light). I bought this tablet at Best buy...and it's over 15 days now.
Can I still return. This one or get a replacement from Bestbuy/Google? My tablet isn't rooted yet with locked boot loader too.
Thanks.
Hold the power button for longer, like 30-60 seconds.
If that doesn't work, connect to charger and let it sit for a while, then repeat.

Thanks...it works now...and the battery was so drained it didn't power up for a couple of minutes ... . I checked the battery section and it was mainly caused by Vonage app...I don't know why ...it should consume about 50% of the battery... I just used it once . :/
I'm having the same problem I am completely stock with a locked boot loader. I had just took my device off the charger and it powered on and I saw Google so I thought it was starting up, when I looked back the device was off I've tried holding power for 30 seconds and even tried putting it back on the charger, but its not even showing the charging indicator.
Edit:I got it to work, I left it off the charger for 5 minutes and then tried charging it again and It started charging. I turned it on and it said I had 65% battery so I find it kind of weird that it didn't start up.

[Q] nexus 7 completely dead?

Hi,
I have a nexus 7 2012 and it worked fine and runs CM 12. The other day I powered it off by pressing the power button then clicking the power off option in the power menu. When I turned it back on it didn't boot up and I ended up having to hold the power button for ages. Powered if off again the next day (only use it occasionally) and when I went to turn it back on it didn't boot again. This time though no matter how long I hold the button for or leave it on charge nothing happens.
I've tried everything from trying different charging cables, plugs, plugged it into laptop, pressing power + volume down and even pressing all 3 buttons. I've popped the back off and unplugged then plugged back in the battery. Nothing works there's no sign of life at all, no screen flickers no nothing I'm stumped. Think when I powered it off it was at 15% battery if that makes a difference?
Only conclusion I can come too is that the charging port is broke or the circuit. Sadly I don't have anything I can use to try and charge it using the four pin connector at the side to test it. Only thing I haven't tried is to "jump-start" the battery. Just take out battery and strip a usb cable and plug the power wires directly into the battery for half hour but not to sure whether to do that or not and wanna make sure I have exhausted all other options before trying that.
Any ideas?
