Hi,
So I bought an s8 from my friend in Korea but I have some issues with it.
SM-G950N
First is that the text messaging has a 60 character limit and there are korean ads that pop up from time to time.
How can i remove them? Should I install a ROM to remove it?
Anyone can please help?
Can someone confirm this for me please?

You have 2 options, 1 is to flash an unbranded Korean firmware which should get rid of those limitations as it sounds like it's carrier specific or 2 you can flash a Rom which requires root which will in turn good Knox, so no Samsung pay and secure folder

thanks so much! i will be reading more about knox and samsung pay. but knowing that flashing a rom would work makes me happy.
by the way, you mentioned an unbranded korean firmware, is it possible for you to point me where can i get that?
again, thanks so much
Same here actually. if anybody can point out where to grab a rom that works.
Change system language and disable Korean?

Hi everybody,
I got a little problem that I can't solve myself.
I have a new Note 3 (N900), bought at Bangkok Airport by a friend. But the language German, that she likes to use is not installed. So she asked me to switch the language to german. I tried some locale apps from play store, but that didn't helped. Is it possible to install an additional localization?
I tried the search here and informed myself about custom roms, odin, root etc. but have never rooted a device nor installed a custom rom. It is difficult for a beginner to find the right way and the right roms, even not sure if there is one.
Btw, there seems to be no region lock, because I tried a german SIM card and it worked.
I found the following information on the package: SM-N9000ZKETHL.
More information? See attached screenshot.
Can anyone help me?
Best regards,

My suggestion would be to ROOT the device, install TWPR and load the carrier ROM specific for Germany. Once loaded, go into the regional settings for the carrier ROM and select the 3 digit acronym for your German carrier. You can use my link as a basis but will need to consult with some of the seasoned experts on here with regards to the best ROM to use.

Just use Odin and install any official European ROM for the SM-N900. No need for rooting and custom Recovery because that's gonna void ur warranty.

Thanks for your hint. But which is the right Odin version? When I open all versions in the Odin thread there is no version for the N900. Is it safe to use the latest version?
So, on the SamMobile site I found the two possible firmwares for the device. One for N900, but without Germany in the Country list. And the firmware for N9005, which is the available version in Germany. But is it really safe to flash the N900 (Exynos) with the N9005 firmware (Snapdragon)? I have read somewhere about incompatabilities between these two which can cause damage to the device. I don't want to brick it.

Thanks for that. At the moment I am convinced that I can't do anything without rooting. Unfortunately there is no German carrier (should be DBT) for the N900, only for N9005.
With your link I found two ways to root the N3, one by chainfire and one by designgears. Chainfires way could work and provides an ODIN version to root the N900 (Exynos), but will trip the KNOX counter and void the warranty. designgears way does not support Exynos at the moment. So I think, I'm stuck at the moment. Or void my warranty.
Do you agree?

You will need to void the warranty and install the proper ROM onto the device which supports the features you require. I do not see any alternative at this point and since you bought in Bangkok (or at this airport), are you really concerned about voiding a warranty? It would cost more to enact on this warranty based on the location of purchase than it would to buy a new device from your home area.
You can root your device using the guide I provided to you in a previous link but make sure to replace the downloadable files with those which support your device. Should you require assistance, let me know and I'll help where possible.
Hope this helps!
I discussed this with the device owner and she decided to wait for a root way for Exynos devices.
So, I will follow this forum and hopefully the talented developers here will find a solution in the near future.
I will then report.
Meanwhile I learned that the Exynos model seems to have no Knox counter. When I boot in Odin mode I got only three information .
Now I have rooted it with CF auto root and the status changed .
Does this void the warranty?
German for N900?
I have a N900 from Thailand too and would like to have German language too.
Does anyone know if there is a custom firmware in German available or any other way to go...
All stock firmware seems not to provide German.
I rooted my Phone already.
Any help is very appreciated.
Thank you!
hey guys,
i recently traded my korean s4 lte-a phone for a galaxy note sm-n9005. i am not certain where it is from originally, as the guy who has the phone isn't very smart about phones.
my main question/concern is how can i upgrade to kit kat while making sure that it is compatible with the SK Telecom network in Korea? I am currently in Korea and would like to root and upgrade the ROM. Would I need to use the SK Telecom stock rom (it is a different model than what I have) and get it to work on my sm-n9005? Or would I need to mess with the settings on ODIN when I run the new stock rom through odin?
Here is some info about my phone. It DOES currently work with the Korean network, although the signal is weaker than my old S4.
basically, can someone tell me which country/network firmware i can use for roms and whatnot? do i have the option of both a korean firmware and foreign one?
thanks in advance!

A little search would have shown you some apps for that, for instance:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo
From your pics the main (and most pressing) advice I can give is to stop immediately any updates AND security updates - if you are MI2 you can probably root with URDLV and keep knox 0x0! Read more around about that.

You might want to mask over the IMEI - I doubt it can be easily used but that is the normal way to do things here on XDA.
The results are a little fascinating - it looks like an early build - and the part that the knox warranty was not yet present is even more interesting - DEFINITELY do not upgrade anything for the moment! Also I would bet that you do not have any region lock, so I doubt that you have any major reason to upgrade in a hurry. Even if you DO upgrade at some point you should first save your (rare, non-knox) firmware/bootloader (that version is not listed for instance at http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=SM-N9005&pcode=XEF#firmware and without saving it you might never be able to return to it). Also the bootloader might be interesting in the "fight against the knox warranty flag".
From what I know SK Telekom is using a model called here N900S and 2G and 3G should be perfectly compatible with the current modem that you have. For LTE the EU model is listed with 800/850/900/1800/2100/2600 while the N900S has 700/850/1800 - so except the 700MHz band it might still work on LTE with SK!
There is also a local thread for those original models from South Korea:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2484602
If you have some time it might also be interesting to go in 'download mode" and get a picture from there - here is a picture on how it looks with bootloaders that have knox.

The LTE IS working with SK, as well as the network. I'm just so lost about what kind of custom roms/kernels I can use that are compatible with my phone.
When you say backup my bootloader, how do I do that? EFS backup? Remember, my phone isn't rooted yet. Do you think I could use any N9005 4.3 root?

I am glad to hear about LTE! (it means that the 700MHz band is not that essential).
Custom ROMs might be a little further away (N9005 by the way, when done OK it might work with many N9005 ROMs), IMHO there are other things that can be done first that would make your phone better/faster.
If you want to root here is the sequence that I suggest:
- save everything that you have on the phone (if you have a LOT of stuff - to Google, Samsung, Samsung Kies or local with Helium)
- make certain that reactivation lock is OFF
- factory-reset the phone
- disable any update (say that you don't agree with the terms when asked) and disable any security update (that one is a separate setting in Security)
- use Saferoot first to try to root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758
- if it works the very next step after getting root is to save as much as possible from the original firmware (you might also need to install busybox before that):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50011586&postcount=26
- if that succeeds and you have a 256MB debrick.bin please compress it (7z is pretty effective but ZIP will also be OK) and please upload it somewhere so that people that are trying to crack knox will have another thing to look at! :good:

This firmware don't exist. It's better know what CSC you own and flash the correct firmware for your device. Installing this APP you can know your CSC. Add some screenshot if you need more help :fingers-crossed:

Hi I've attached the screenshot but I have no idea what it means. I have already flashed it to AT&T in USA and it is not enabling me to use the Sim card that was previously working in it. I know how to flash it but I just don't know what firmware I should be using and where to find it. Thanks for any help in advance.
Do you have the original box? If so, you should find the full model number on a label. It will say GT-I9500ZKAXXX, where XXX will be three letters. Those three letters will be the CSC of the phone. If not, it is possible to determine the carrier using the phone's IMEI and this site. Once we know the carrier or the CSC of the phone it's possible to get you the right ROM for the phone, assuming of course that you haven't totally screwed yourself by installing the AT&T firmware on it. AT&T and Verizon both encrypt the bootloader of the device, and removing the bootloader by flashing the correct ROM through Odin may not work because of the encryption.

Hey guys,
I just bought one of the x cams and I was thinking if there would be root or xposed or even roms for this device anytime sooner?
Thnaks,

BTW: Has anyone unlocked the bootloader?
ya i keep checking for x power, x cam and x style but no info yet that I have been able to find the full kernel source is out there for the x power though I may just build one custom and see if it will take once I can get the actual firmware to repair with just in case basically if that will work then it may work for the other X models too.
I think, that the major difficulty is to make the dual camera work fine.
I have a Lg X Cam and the rom is very stable. But if anybody start a custom rom i will liked.
Thanks,

Hi All,
Please excuse me in case this was already adressed in other post.
Case: I bought in South Korea a brand new Samsung Galaxy S8 (SM-G950N) Exynos version. Im very happy with the phone but there are a few diferences between this one and the spanish version of the phone. For example, since in Korea apparently is not legal to silence the shutter of the camera there is no option in the phone to remove this sound. Other things are for example the apps that by default are installed in the phone. In my case the carrier is KT and I have a ton of apps that I cannot use or Im not interested.
Questions:
Q1.- Is there a possibility to install the samsung stock rom for the S8 clean (from Spain for example) and get rid of all this crap and at the same time maintain all warranty and Updates as any other "not modified" phone?
Q2.- Will the software change once i insert the SIM car from my spanish carrier showing me option available in the S8 spanish software version that i cannot see now from the Korean version?
Q3.- can I use a baseband from any other carrier and if not is there compatible basebands with my phone?
any help will be much appreciated.
thanks in advance.

I have a Korean phone (g950N) and have done everything that you want to it EXCEPT my warranty is void. Initially, I rooted the phone and flashed a different stock ROM. Since then, I've flashed a custom ROM (Renovate-ice) as it gives me far more options and flexibility. During the installation, you can choose the country you want and it will add all the relevant software and frequencies etc.

AFAIK you will not get to the result you want, as long as you don't want to void your warranty (knox 0x1).
Flashing a g950F Firmware on a g950N device will lead to a not booting phone.

Also, no. Your CSC won't change when inserting a different SIM.
As to the third question, I can't answer.
But if you would be willing to void your warranty, you of course can change the csc to a spain one, get all the spain carrier bloatware and can deactivate the shutter sound.
voLTE ISSUE
I am facing a similar problem.
i bought a galaxy s8 (SM-G950n) from south korea. But here, in india, i can't use voLTE. i can use LTE and other band at ease except voLTE. Then googled and found that indian csc code installation may help. But the problem is that the phone i have is single sim and the indian model has dual sim. If i flash the indian stock rom will it brick? If it bricks i can't gp back to south korea to resolve that. i contacted the korean samsung service but their help didn't work.
Give me a strong solution.
