[Q] Note 3 from Thailand without my language - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody,
I got a little problem that I can't solve myself.
I have a new Note 3 (N900), bought at Bangkok Airport by a friend. But the language German, that she likes to use is not installed. So she asked me to switch the language to german. I tried some locale apps from play store, but that didn't helped. Is it possible to install an additional localization?
I tried the search here and informed myself about custom roms, odin, root etc. but have never rooted a device nor installed a custom rom. It is difficult for a beginner to find the right way and the right roms, even not sure if there is one.
Btw, there seems to be no region lock, because I tried a german SIM card and it worked.
I found the following information on the package: SM-N9000ZKETHL.
More information? See attached screenshot.
Can anyone help me?
Best regards,
wiciba

My suggestion would be to ROOT the device, install TWPR and load the carrier ROM specific for Germany. Once loaded, go into the regional settings for the carrier ROM and select the 3 digit acronym for your German carrier. You can use my link as a basis but will need to consult with some of the seasoned experts on here with regards to the best ROM to use.

Hope this helps!

Just use Odin and install any official European ROM for the SM-N900. No need for rooting and custom Recovery because that's gonna void ur warranty.

Thanks for your hint. But which is the right Odin version? When I open all versions in the Odin thread there is no version for the N900. Is it safe to use the latest version?
So, on the SamMobile site I found the two possible firmwares for the device. One for N900, but without Germany in the Country list. And the firmware for N9005, which is the available version in Germany. But is it really safe to flash the N900 (Exynos) with the N9005 firmware (Snapdragon)? I have read somewhere about incompatabilities between these two which can cause damage to the device. I don't want to brick it.

Thanks for that. At the moment I am convinced that I can't do anything without rooting. Unfortunately there is no German carrier (should be DBT) for the N900, only for N9005.
With your link I found two ways to root the N3, one by chainfire and one by designgears. Chainfires way could work and provides an ODIN version to root the N900 (Exynos), but will trip the KNOX counter and void the warranty. designgears way does not support Exynos at the moment. So I think, I'm stuck at the moment. Or void my warranty.
Do you agree?

You will need to void the warranty and install the proper ROM onto the device which supports the features you require. I do not see any alternative at this point and since you bought in Bangkok (or at this airport), are you really concerned about voiding a warranty? It would cost more to enact on this warranty based on the location of purchase than it would to buy a new device from your home area.
You can root your device using the guide I provided to you in a previous link but make sure to replace the downloadable files with those which support your device. Should you require assistance, let me know and I'll help where possible.
Hope this helps!

I discussed this with the device owner and she decided to wait for a root way for Exynos devices.
So, I will follow this forum and hopefully the talented developers here will find a solution in the near future.
I will then report.

Meanwhile I learned that the Exynos model seems to have no Knox counter. When I boot in Odin mode I got only three information .
Now I have rooted it with CF auto root and the status changed .
Does this void the warranty?

German for N900?
I have a N900 from Thailand too and would like to have German language too.
Does anyone know if there is a custom firmware in German available or any other way to go...
All stock firmware seems not to provide German.
I rooted my Phone already.
Any help is very appreciated.
Thank you!

[Q] How to identify where your Note is made?

I got my Note from Expansys.ca few weeks ago. I rooted my Note and wants to update it and keep it rooted. What firmware should I download?
PCode:GT-N7000RWAXEU
PDA:N7000XXKKA
PHONE:N7000XXKK5
CSC: N7000XEUKK3
and where can i download the latest firmware? Thanks
I would suggest the EU in your code says its a european rom, therefore id us an open europe from samfirmware or indeed from here.
It doesnt matter to be honest, all the roms are virtually the same, just some are tailored for different networks, im assuming yours is an unlocked Note, so any rom will work fine, all roms regardless of country also have the english language, so go ahead, download and flash, its no big issue what stock rom you use.
If you decide to go custom, PLEASE be aware that guides are on here for a reason, familiarise yourself with the process completely, so many people dont bother to read the posted guides and wind up in big trouble.
Please do some searching in the Note forums.. everything you ask has been asked 100 times before..

[Q] ROM's With Different CSC's?

Hi Guys,
I originally asked this in the ROM's thread, over here
But i didn't get any answer, at all, so i was hoping someone here could clear the questing up for me.
Everything on the Custom CWM Flashable ROM matches my existing software verson apart from the CSC as found by *#1234# .
Will this be OK or will this brick my device? Any help would be really appreciated, i know there's someone out there that can help me out.
All the searching I've done on CSC's just tells me the differences not the consequences.
I live in the UK and i'm on O2, just need to know if the ROM will work?
Thanks in advance!
from my experience about my older samsung devices galaxy tab and note 1 it cause only factory reset your phone but don't know if knox thing change something about csc too.

If rooted, delete, or rename languages.xml from csc folder, reboot, and you'll have access to all of them.
Sent from my SM-G900W8
You didn't give us much information to go on which makes it all but impossible to give you good advice. Most notably, what carrier and country are you going to use the phone in.
If you meant TMB US, Portuguese isn't a language in common use in the US and as you've discerned isn't available. Nor do I think that editing languages.xml will work as I believe that is depreciated in the current Android version. The easiest way to do what you want would be to root and install a 900F based custom ROM that has Portuguese support enabled. ROMs such as Alliance or Phoenix probably fall into that category.
In the alternative, you might be able to get Portuguese support by flashing a full 900F stock firmware to your phone. However flashing firmware from a different variant is not recommended and could soft brick your phone. If you proceed anyway, make an effort to find the matching EUR_Open PIT file and flash both concurrently.
All in all, a custom ROM is the better way to proceed.

[Q] SM-N9008 to a SM-N9005

Hi, I live in China but am not Chinese and have inherited a 14mth old Note3 SM-N9008 from my wife, who is Chinese. Just wanted to clarify this point as a lot of other posters with an SM-N9008 have been shot down for having one instead of getting a model relative to where they live
OK, with that out of the way, I have no issues with voiding the warranty as it's gone anyway (14 mth old).
My key question is after reading the "how-to-change-csc-in-samsung-galaxy-phones" (sorry cannot include the offsite link being new here) topic, and perhaps my understanding is wrong and so please correct me if I am, if I change the PDA, PHONE and CSC codes to match correctly to another locale NOT China (eg UK), then I am a) basically changing my 9008 to a 9005 in principle & b) my 9008 will accept ROM's for a 9005 and work fine.
Or is this 'trick' of manipulating these codes to give a new locale only for the purpose of if you have a 9005 in Chile which has not uploaded a new Stock ROM but say Spain has, I make my 9005 look like it is now from Spain and will therefore be able to get the new 9005 Stock ROM?
I have only ever rooted and applied another Stock ROM to one other mobile device before, about 2 years or more ago, which was a Chinese model of the Note 10.1 and it's worked perfectly fine in all that time on the Intl Stock ROM - except for updates online which I don't do (I do manual app updates where required) because the updates give me the Chinese version due to the CSC etc not being changed and so thinking I am Chinese.
Has anyone tried this before at all? Changing the PDA, PHONE and CSC codes from one model to anothers so as to have access to other Stock ROM's in your preferred language and without the locale's bloatware, as well as being able to have appz like Intl google play etc (which cannot be included in any 9008 Stock ROM)?
I've looked at detailed specs for both the 9008 and the 9005 models and they seem exactly the same, just the PDA, PHONE and CSC codes make each different.
If anyone has, please can they help tell me the process steps I need to follow (such as do I root 1st and then change the codes, or change the codes 1st and then root?
I do hope someone can give me some positive feedback please. Thanks in anticipation for any help you can offer me.

Enter download mode. The model number listed there is the model number of your device. That will help us help you, but I suspect you have a frankenstein phone.

Install this APP and add some screenshots.
As suspected, this phone is a Frankenstein, meaning in your case an international ROM on an AT&T S4. Proper rooting procedures and other material for your device are here. Please note that your device is a US model and comes from a carrier that locks (i.e. encrypts) the bootloader on its devices. As a result there will be limits on what you can do with the device.
I'm tempted to trade devices as I have an I9505 here in the States, but I don't want the locked bootloader.

First: I understand from your reply that the possibility of installing Cyanogenmod or official Rom on my device is 0% :crying:
the link you sent me is about the AT&T S4 .
What if I try an AT&T Rom on my device, does that break it ? ,
second: The phone is made in Vietnam and whenever I reset it it starts with Chinese language thats why I thought it's chinese
Please see the other screenshots I attached you may find something
Thank you.
Your device IS an AT&T S4, so installing an AT&T ROM on the phone isn't going to break it. The link I provided is so that if you do wish to work with this beast you have the proper tools to do so, since none of the tools in this forum will be of any aid. However, I'm going to tell you to run, not walk, to the place you got this phone from and return it, because you will not have a good experience. The bootloader is encrypted, which makes rooting nearly impossible. If you live in a country with LTE, you may have reduced or non-existent LTE connectivity due to the LTE bands on the AT&T model S4 being different from those for the I9505.
Country of manufacture doesn't mean a thing. My I9505 was sold in England by O2, yet its country of manufacture is also Vietnam. As to the Chinese language being default, that's ridiculously simple to change in the firmware, so that doesn't mean much either. Your screenshots however, conclusively prove that I was totally correct, and this is an AT&T S4. An I9505 would have "jfltexx" as the device type, not "jflteatt".

1. IMEI is clean of one GT-I9505.
2. The device type is of one SGH-I337.
3. The Samsung Serial Number is CLEAN too.
4. You own a Franki. But looks more a GT-i9505 that one SGH-i337 (Take a look: HERE for remove carrier label).
5. COUNCIL: I will try to flash via ODIN this firmware for GT-i9505 if I was you. Do it by your own responsibility.

Hello Joku
I tried with the firmware you sent me yesterday , can't be flashed . odin give me the same error
I tried with "mobile odin pro.apk" than after reboot a yellow triangle with exclamation mark appeared , see attached pic ,
can I reset the phone or it just gone no way to fix that ?
It's too far for that. You need to install AT&T firmware via Odin for the S4 to function at all, thanks to the bootloader. Hopefully the device was carrier unlocked before you bought it, otherwise you'll not be able to use the S4 without purchasing an unlock code.

Hi Strephon
I got rid of the yellow triangle by following this guide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUbciGy7kHc and now the phone stuck on "samsung custom"
after that I tried instaling the AT&T rom you sent me , and I got red writting I saw only when trying to instal AT&T firmware ( sv rev check fail : fused : 5, binary 1 ) , I think this is not the right ROM , I even tried the other rom for AT&T I found along with the ROM you sent me in "Sammobile.com"
I have friend who has a Box , we tried installing the rom with it , but still we can't
I think i have to find a ROM with (pda I9505ZHUEMK2 CSC I9500ZSUEMJ6) I tried few roms from here; ( http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/GT-I9505/TGY/ ),but none of them worked ,
Q 1, How/where can I find rom with (pda I9505ZHUEMK2 CSC I9500ZSUEMJ6) ? Is it possible ?
Q 2 ,since I can access system recovery does that mean the original ROM still not wiped ?
Q 3 , what can I benefit from the the system recovery ?
see pics please
Thanks you.
You can't find a ROM with that PDA and CSC combination, as that combination is for two completely different devices, neither of which is your device. The only stock ROM that will install to an AT&T S4 is an AT&T ROM. No other ROM will work, and your attempts to install an incompatible ROM have, to the best of my knowledge, resulted in that indicator in your third picture.
Your ONLY means of restoring this phone to any kind of operating condition is to head over to the AT&T S4 forums and start reading. I will give you a hand though, and tell you that to eliminate the custom indicator in your third pic, you need to read through this thread on the AT&T S4 forums.
The amount of help any of us here can give you from this point on is going to be VERY limited, so head over to the AT&T S4 forums to ask your questions. The device owners in that section are far more familiar with the quirks of the AT&T S4 and will be more able to help you restore this device than we will.
