I use one of those stick on elasticated finger grips for my S8 (like this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Elastic-Finger-Grip-Fone-Stuff%C2%AE-Mobile-Black/dp/B00SVAX0W6).
It is amazing since I have smallish hands. However sometimes when the device is locked. The hard press home button doesn't work. When I unlock it works fine.
I've not modified or done anything to the software of the phone apart from leaving medium battery saver on permanently (this had some weird effects on my last phone but nothing to do with the hardware).
I'm concerned that this grip, since it is effectively slightly pulling on the back cover of the phone, is causing the problem. It's near the bottom half of the back cover.
Am I being paranoid?

I think it's normal. I've examined four X1a's and they all had a small amount of play in the top part of the slider when open.
Mine has also a slight play to it (back and forth). Noticed this on the Raphael as well.
Keep in mind though, that the slider is only supported by two metal hooks situated (when keyboard out) at one end of the screen. So guess it's normal.
The play will also increase as the phone gets older (wear and tear). As long as the screen doesn't fall off I guess it's ok.
To prolong the life though, I try to be gentle when opening and support the screen when it's open (to reduce the wear and tear).
Mine's shaky when closed. Went to the service centre thrice and everytime they said it was normal.
Mine is a bit shaky as well. even when closed, but afer giving it some thought, i guess it impossible to make it totaly solid, at least with this form. i annoyes me, though. pressing the keys and you feel how it bends a little. when opened, I am afraid to press the little x or soething else on top of the screen, at least without supporting the lower side with my other hand.

I support it when open, cause it's impossible to make it solid (@least not in this form factor). It's easy enough for me though.. cause the phone fits in my palm so easy (and way easier than other phones I've had - But I do miss the tilting screen from Kaiser though..then again, that needed major support when tilted)

I have my X1 for a week now. On mine the top part is shaky when closed, it moves ~1mm up/down opposite of the slider hinges. Anyone else?

i think it's normal. I noticed that as soon as I took it out of the box and was very worried. it's my first slider phone and i didn't know what was normal and what was not. reading threads like this was very reassuring for me. I just hope it won't get loose, if it stays like that, then i'm happy.
It seems really solid to me. No movement at all unless I push on it. I’m guessing it will loosen up over time.
same here, closed and opened. When I press gently in opposite corners when closed, it waggles slightly. I got annoyed/worried about this after purchasing the phone few months ago and went to the store to ask about it. I got to test three different X1s and they were all similar, so it's not a problem (or at least it's by the design
A bit annoying still though, especially when using touchscreen with your fingers. Mostly when pressing on the right side of the screen (down-right being the worst), it waggles slightly under your fingers.
Same here too. About 1mm up and down when closed, and when open, same.
And yes Jent, it does waggle a bit. Try using the phone when you're lying in bed, and hold the phone upside down... every press will move the screen about 1mm and it gets annoying very quickly.

I am always on the move with the phone in my trousers and I am sure that the buttons get pressed all day long causing the phone causing the screen to switch on. I find that with my screen off all day over the weekend, the phone lasts about 16 hours without charge (which is pretty **** anyways) but when I am out, it lasts about 8 to 9 hours max.
Does anyone else experience this?

its more likely caused by your phone going in and out of high/low/3g/3g areas while its in your pocket. the buttons are quite hard to press accidentally imo
Apart from the top power button, it's only the middle button that wakes up the device. I have a gel case on mine (not that ugly ass full silicone wraparound crap) and the edges protrude a lot further than the buttons, so I don't seem to have this problem either.
I believe I have also had this issue. I haven't tested it via battery life, but I do sometimes pull my phone out of my pocket to see the screen on.
Additionally, I downloaded a no-lock app from the market, and whenever I went out and had the screen lock disabled, I'd pull my phone out and it would be doing something (using calculator for example). I've since, re-enabled the screen lock
Wish we could disable the menu button from turning the screen on.

They have terrific grip in your hands and protect the device face down, face up and from any edge impacts. Call it the cheapest insurance policy you can ever have. I have a black x10 and got clear, smoke, blue and red ones. They all look really nice on the device.
Very strange: when I put my MyTouch 4G in my car cradle (it's a generic one: http://www.officedepot.ca/a/products/494874/Gilsson-Universal-Windshield-Mount-Black/) the screen generally will not respond to touch making it essentially impossible to use.
I did notice that if I cover the back camera with my finger, the screen does respond to touch, even after I remove my finger. But then other strangeness occurs like it never times out to sleep mode and if I force it to sleep by pressing the top button, when I press the button again there is no lock screen and I need to cover the camera again to make it recognize touches.
I actually had a similar issue with my last phone (an Acer Liquid E) although using a hack to increase the touch sensitivity seemed to fix it on that phone.
I don't understand what is it about being put on a cradle that makes the phone behave this way. I have checked that the arms of the cradle aren't pressing any of the buttons and, in fact, just resting the phone in the cradle with the arms extended beyond the width of the phone does the same thing.
Anyone know what's going on?

probably time to return the cradle haha. but seriously speaking that just sounds super weird. especially the part where you say if you cover the camera the touch screen works. haha.
Does your cradle provide power ti the phone through use port? Generally this happens when there is voltage going to the phone that is interfering with the touch screeb, like using a generic charger.
I've seen this. It was caused by the cradle pressing in on the volume control. Adjust your phone on the cradle so the volume isn't touched and see if that solves it for you.

No the cradle doesn't supply power it's just a generic holder. I did check that the arms aren't pressing any buttons as that's the first thing I suspected. Even with the arms open so that there is a space between them and the sides of the phone, so long as the phone is resting on the cradle (just by gravity) this happens.
The fact that covering the camera temporarily seems to fix it is also really strange. I almost started believing the phone can detect the dash of the car through the camera and shuts itself off so you don't play with it while driving. But that seems a little far fetched.
I've had the same behavior with my generic car dock as well. It's very sporadic (maybe once a week), and I can't figure out the cause. But for my $10 it's good enough until there's an official dock that's custom fit.

So it's even weirder than I thought. Turns out this doesn't only happen with the car cradle, but also sometimes when the phone is lying on its back. Tends to be more likely on a soft surface like my couch or a carpet, but it's also happened on my work desk. In these cases slightly repositioning the phone seems to fix it. Also, it doesn't seem to happen if a charging cable is plugged in, so at least that should be a workaround for car use. It happens when waking from sleep. Once the touch input is responsive, it remains so regardless of what position the phone is put in until the phone goes to sleep.

The other thing I noticed is a purple light that comes on underneath the touchpad when its pressed. It's not really visible by eye but for some reason the camera really picks it up... Is that the pad's touch sensor?
when i first hold the tablet (and even before) i tought that screen shot key is priceless. its very useful. when i read a book or surf on the web it lets me cut and share/send anything on my screen after cropped as i like. but them losing that key when i put stylus in its silo was a bit uncomfortable. most of the time i need that key i wasnt using. so i was sondering if its possible to keep those keys "all the time"
than something happened and its really bad. i totally lost those keys. when i pull of the stylus it doesnt feel it. it doesnt show those keys and it doesnt pop direct stylus launcher (even the setting is right) i tried to tweak it with simple methods like pulling it out ressetted pulled in resetted again etc but doesnt work.
so for get the direct stylus launcher, the question is, is there a way to make those screen shot and palm rejection keys "always on" no matter what?
i couldnt find any other people having this problem but even for the people doesnt have this problem, have an option to have those keys all the time should be nice.
I had this same problem with my girlfriends tetra note 7. Basically the tablet recognises the sylus by a little magnet snuck away in the stylus and in the tablet. When the two attract the tablet recognises the stylus in it and visa-versa. All I did to sort the issue was undo the tip of the stylus and re scree it back on again and that seemed to sort the issue. Sorry if you have sorted the issue

I did had to try it 3 times but at least can confirm: un-, and rescrewing the metal end does seem to sort the issue out. Just when you do so, unscrew the inside part of the metal end/cap aswell!

Got a surprise the other evening, went to pocket the phone and as usually hit the power button -- and it wasn't there.
Long story short: I was fiddling with the case that was on it while watching TV, and put the case back on putting the side with the power button in last. This dragged the plastic across the power button, it popped out. In my case I found it on the floor where I had been sitting, unbroken.
The button just snaps in and out. Note it goes in only one way (more precisely, it easily goes in the wrong way, but does not fit properly, remains loose and does not work properly).
I put mine back, and it's been 3 days with no more events; it does not seem that removing it (once at least) made it significantly more easy to pop out. I considered trying to pop it out to take a photo but decided I would play it safe.
Moral of the story: Be VERY careful putting a case on/off to not drag the edge across the button (or anything else similar).
And if you notice it missing, stop, and look around closely. My black phone's one was black on one side, white on the other, so while tiny was not too hard to find on the floor since I knew the general area.
I assume the volume is similar, but did not experiment.
I cam confirm it happens. Lost mine. After a bit of messing around with google they finally exchanged the phone.
