some questions about the s8 - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

hi when ive got the always on screen android pay lets me pay with out unlocking my phone if i want to make my android pay safer do i have to turn always on of
also is they a way to have notifications to light up the phone
why im asking is because im new to android ive been with ios for a good few years now so im use to when getting a sms can just quick replay etc thank you for your time

Doesn't the Android Pay app still require you to authenticate before you use it? Samsung Pay will let you pay without unlocking your phone, but you still have to authenticate within the app.

no, it doesn't. you just have to unlock the phone. I'm not sure about the screen always on, though, I don't use it

The Bootloader (not dev stuff, general Q)

hey guys.
i just now started thinking ,what DOES unlocking the bootloader achieve ?
i mean if its only implementing new kernels which make new rom implementation easier and OCing available.. well im not all that impressed by it then.
(yes oc is good, but people seem to be making new roms anyway...so)
so please helpful forumers, enlighten me ,what does the unlocking of the bootloader achieve for us ?
and yea i am kinda new to android stuff
yep basically what you said - being able to flash unsigned kernal which makes rom development easier as you have control over the kernal and the android system so you dont have to compile your android system to match up to the existing SE kernal.
In simple terms: Gingerbread, 16 M colors, all hardware pieces working at 100%, getting rid of SE layers, etc.
alright men thanks a bunch.
guess im definitely going to buy the neo, seems such a perfect price and power match and the bootloader question was the only thing keeping me from it, also the ram, but i have good faith in gingerbread task manager +the launcher is very nice
Indeed, it is so much more than just OC'ing.
Would an unlocked bootloader mean something could be done about the call volume on the X10?
And could you make the photo light work as a flash without third party apps?
Glad someone asked this question, as I have no idea what it all means and didn't want to start a new post
YES IT IS. But it seems to be too far since many of us are using this device from almost one year and would be able to renew our X10 soon letting it in the past. Too sad since with the bootloader opened this device could be amazing and safe. But now I'm blocking data traffic to avoid viruses and using it like an old phone and looking for a replacement, also the camera is next to be useless with such stupid light. GPS is fine but every smartphone out there come with GPS too !

Yes, he means that. There are some security issues in past Android versions, but in Gingerbread those issues shouldn't have any effect.
Briefly, on the security topic... I've been wondering about malware in an app I use, but didn't know where to ask about it. Traffic Counter app tracks your usage of minutes, data, wifi, and texts. I started using because I have limited data, and 1500 text messages. Since I started using this app I have been flooded with text messages and emails from my carrier about their unlimited text message plan and their 2GB data plans. Is this the malware security issue?

I'd say yes, the famous spyware, wich sends information to your carrier about you and your preferences or "needs", so your carrier offers you something you may be interested on.
Of course that's not with the intention of damaging you (maybe...), but the point is that they're spying you
@agentjbm
I would say that if you are getting those from your carrier now then you could call them about it. They usually have an opt out for receiving messages from your carrier.

Yes, I already asked them to stop. Outside of the nuisance of multiple messages I don't see the major "security issue". In fact, I prefer target marketing to mass marketing. As long as it is something that could be of interest to me, I don't mind it.

Google wallet and AT&T S3

Is there, or will there be a way to use google wallet on the non sprint S3s? With or without root or rom?
There has to be some info on this out there. Is Google Wallet just a gimmick or will this really take off? If so I would think AT$T and Verizon being bigger providers than Sprint, there would have to be the ability to get these to work with it.

there is info on this, if you search.
wallet is only support officially by sprint. the rest of the carriers you will have to find the modded apk for wallet.
(also, i hit the thanks button accidentally instead of 'quote' on your post, so free thanks for you!)
I searched, but anything that comes up is about Sprint having it and AT&T not...But at least I know that it will be possible at some point.
The question is if the At&t version has a secure element. If it doesn't, then there is no chance.

How do we go about finding something like that out? If they are wanting their version of the s3 to work with some other "google wallet" type system, it would seem it would have all the same requirements. I dont see them killing the ability completely, just had the software side removed. But who knows what these guys will do these days.
Att is developing their own system with some other carriers called ISIS. Probably not a chance to get Google wallet working on the att version.

I would try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1365360
EDIT: That only works on rooted devices, my bad
Having to root it is not a big deal, I just wanted to know it was possible to use it if the need came up. Right now I dont think NFC payments are big enough to consider a must have, but if the day comes that 8 of 10 shops use some sort of nfc payment system it will change my mind for sure. I just like to know that I can do something. Im sorta waiting to root as well Its running like a champ and everything that i use daily is working without a root. Once a nice easy one click is out that will not trip the counter I will go for it, or if some app or ability that I just have to use requires it. But just enjoying the phone for now as is
I am rooted still doesn't work on i747 just hangs on activating

Maybe now that so many are getting this phone we will see some work being done to figure this out.
to get it to work you will need to fudge the phone into thinking it's connected with Sprint using Market Enabler or equivalent. That's I had to do on my G Nexus in canada.
so, for some reason, i installed it, it loads but i get this message, and just stopps.
"Initializing your device. this make take a few min...... blahh blahh.. "
thats it..
Worked for me on Canadian sgs3...
I'll try post instructions for it tomorrow evening.

I'm on the same boat here. For the SIII apparently AT&T and Samsung got into an agreement that left out their version of the phone from the service. Some ROMs identified the device as i747M (as opposed to i747) to make the service work.
I would love to see the factory functionaly work without external apps as well, but couldn't find anything here yet...
UPDATE
I was able to get the Remote Controls Option to show up on my S4 but I need something from a "International" Rom that has the Remote Controls Working. I have setup the remote controls on my AT&T i337 and have the account setup correctly but it doesn't actually communicate with server. I believe what i am looking for is called Samsung Account.app. If anyone knows or has this from a rom that has the Remote Controls Working could you please back it up with TB or something and send it to me.
Thanks
Before flashing a custom rom (goldeneye) was able to access this service, it hasn't worked since wondering if anyone has found a way to getting it working once again?
No as far as I know no one has. But if you find a way to get it working let me know.

Try SeekDroid. One time fee, no monthly but limited to one device. If you want me than one device, THEN you pay the monthly fee.

Remote Desktop & Remote Android - Anroid

Hi all,
I have a weird requirement.
I have a Galaxy Note 4.
1. I installed gotomypc app and gotomypc software on my work laptop and my Galaxy Note 4 and I can browse my Home laptop when I'm outside.
Similarly, is there any app, which I can install on my Galaxy Note 4 and remote control my another Verizon Galaxy S5 Phone in my home?
I want to just do everything, like I do when I connect via gotomypc software to my laptop from my Phone or Work Laptop.
I don't mind paying monthly fee for this app, if there is a subscription fees. Just like for gotomypc, I pay $9.95/ Month.
Thank You for Your suggestions.

You can install a VNC client on your Note 4 and install this app on your S5. I haven't done this from one phone to another but it definitely works for me running a VNC client from my PC and remote controlling a phone. I used it to connect to my LG Optimus L9 many, many times. It's a one-time cost of $10.
Splash top, log me in, vnc, to name but a few.
Not too sure about phone to phone.
Phone to PC works, have no idea why you would want to control another phone unless it was to snoop, there are other apps out there for stuff like that, don't know if xda promotes stuff like that though
Actually Teamviewer is free for personal use

Is there any way that I can past the games.
I paid $10. But it asking me download some crap game and asking me to play that crap game.
I hate playing games.
Its pathetic that, even after paying the money, You cannot go forward in using the App, and You are forced to download some crap.
Obviously, filing a charge back with my Credit card company and they will take care of the rest. I will not loose my $10.
Are there any other alternatives.
MY REQUIREMENT IS TO CONNECT FROM ANDROID TO ANDROID.
Can You connect a Android to Android via Team Viewer???
I could not find that option.
Thank You all for the help.
I never tried that but.....

What game?? None of those apps come with a game, they're all distributed on the play store, as i said i'm not sure about phone to phone, there wouldn't be any need to do that unless you were spying on someone and as I've already said, I don't think XDA like people talking about that stuff.

NFC pay?

Hello, i was looking around my settings and find that I can pay with NFC, well that was great but there was no default options for it I know about Android Pay but its not supported by the phone... or maybe country?
After some googling i saw Huawei had app for this but they drop it for reasons. Is there a way to get Android Pay working or alternative for that?
Thanks.
