Changes in Tablet at reboot + SD card issues - Samsung Galaxy Tab A series Questions & Answers

Hello,
I have a rooted Galaxy Tab A (2016) with S Pen 10.1. SM-P580. Running 6.0.1.
I have a couple of issues I can't get past.
First problem :
Whenever I restart my tablet there are a few changes that always occur. They are :
- Screen timeout goes back to the default 15 seconds (although I have it changed to 2 minutes)
- Keyboard goes back to the default one (from my chosen SwiftKey to Samsung keyboard)
- In "notification access" everything goes to "off"
- In "Accessibility" and "Services" everything goes to "off". Each time I need to manually turn them back on, one by one.
It can be quite annoying to always have to change everything back at each reboot. And it's not only on reboot, it also happens if I leave the tablet on for a few days.
Does anyone know what to do, to make my preferences stay??
Second problem (more importantly) :
I can't find an application that would make the SD card the default storage (this option does not exist in the tablet itself).
As it is now, if I want to download music or movies I can't. Because with the 16GB (and almost full) internal memory it's not enough.
Anytime an application has been updated it goes automatically to the internal storage so I have to keep moving them back manually to the SD card, if not the rest won't update since not enough space.....
I have 1,3 GB left of free space on internal storage and 97GB on SD card.
So I have a fancy tablet and a big SD card but can't download anything!
I have tried a few SD applications but they just don't do the job. And some of them don't even recognise that I have a SD card.
Does anyone know of an SD card application that would do the basic work of :
- Make SD card default storage.
- Be able to move applications to and from SD card.
- Automatically move recently downloaded apps to SD card.
I would be most grateful for any help I can get!
Thank you!

Id say your issue is your data partition has somehow become corrupted. I suggest backing up what you need, factory reset and reinstall the stock firmware.
For more storage you could use adoptable storage.

Corrupted SD Card

Hi,
What happened
Yesterday when I had more time I started installing some applications on my HTC Touch HD.
I installed:
1).NET Framework 3.5
2) Advanced Configuration
3) Total Commander
4) Gyrator 2
I had already installed IGO 8 a few months ago.
After installing Advanced configuration I tested the IGO and it was working, I had no problem.
However after I installed Gyrator 2 and with Gyrator 2 on I tried to start Igo8, the IGO8 didn't want to start. After further attempts and investigation I came to the conclusion that the SD Card is corrupted.
Symptoms of the SD Card(original one that came in the box with the device):
1)While reading it from PC only the root directory of the card is visible with all the folders inside but I can access only one folder out of 15. for the others I get an error, cannot read from the device...
2) From the HTC touch HD I can even enter all the folders but while accessing some files, not all of them, I get errors saying that the files could not be opened.
3) I had to do many restarts so only two times the first screen that you see after you power-on the device is the "Smart mobility" and then after a few seconds you get the details of the ROM and two other rows in the bottom right corner. So for two times the "Smart mobility was not centered" as well as the bottom right corrner data they were not at their position. However now after 5-10 more power-on power-off manipulation the first screen seems to be ok.
Possible causes as I see it are two:
1) Gyrator 2 and IGO8 do not lik eache other very much, and some how when IGO8 started maybe the orientation of the screen just changed from portrait to landscape. It is just a theory, as I'm not an expert I cannot say if it's correct or not.
2) After installing the Gyrator2 I have somehow unplugged the USB cable while the computer might still have had a connection to the PC. That's ulikelley because I allways do the "Remove USB device" before unplugging, but I did it so many times that I do not remember exactly that time. However I trust my instincts even though I cannot exclude the possibility of an error.
The cause 2) might be realated as well with the usual problem of choosing the action needed when you connect he HTC Touh HD trough the USB cable. It happened many times that an option is preselected(read the Storage card) but I want to actually synchronise the device with ActiveSync, so initially the PC opens the SD card as an external drive and then after I click on the phone to choose the ActiveSync connection it closes the external drive and makes the connection.
Is there a better way to choose between the modes of connectivity to PC, taking into account that when you want to install some software on the device you have to either copy the file on the device itself and start it there or install it on the PC and use ActiveSync to install it as well on the device.
My main question is related with the helthcheck of my HTC Touch HD.
a) Is there a risk that the internal built in flash storage of the device is corrputed as well? I have checked all the files almost with no problems of accessing any of them. It seems ok to me. The only thing that worries me a bit is the problem with the splash screen as I explained it under possible cause 2) which now doesn't seem to appear anymore.
b) is there any other part that I should verify to make sure that my device is ok.
c) Less important, if you could help me find out what happened to make sure that I won'trepeat it again and break the next SD Card.
d) Can I recover/repair the SD Card itself, the data that I had on were not very important I have them on my PC in proportion of 90%. I downloaded some tool from SanDisk called usb-test-tool.exe but it fails to see the card(I think the tool is not the right one), or I shouldn't even bother because there is a risk of having problems afterwards.
Most probably I'll have to buy another SDMicroCard I'll try to buy the same brand maybe for 16GB, I do not know the prices yet.
Sorry for the long pot, but I wanted to give allt he details.
Thanks for your support!
And now most probably I'll have to uninstall the applications that were installed on the SDCard, I hope it will work out and there will be no left-overs in registries or on the filesystem.

well. Mine got bricked too yesterday. it was a 16GB sd-card. Only my phone can access it and the data is gone. Data was firts messed up (like chaotic named folders and files) and then disappeared. I can create new folders and files there but it is full of lost chains and clusters (found by mobile apps) and reports the same free space as before (40%) but there are no content visible. When I connect it to laptop either as an disk drive from mobile or directly with sd-adapter I get high cpu usage of interrupts and a frozen usb managment and need to restart.

Same happened to me with my 16gb Sandisk card.
Card reader said is was write protected and could not format using SDFormatter.
Solution after a search found on the Raphael forum was to download http://www.cnetx.com/format/download.asp and install to main memory.
Success !
Then I could read it and formatted again with SDFormatter
Hope this helps

Opera Changing Storage Card name to Storage Card 2

Guys,
Am in need of some desperate help.
Up until tonight all was well with the HD2.
However, for some unknown reason every time I now launch Opera it changes the name of my Storage Card to Storage Card 2 which you then can not enter in Resco Explorer and in place creates a new folder named Storage Card and places 2 folders inside:-
OperaCache (with 264 files within)
Inbox.numbers (and inside this folder Mail Attachements which is empty).
What this means is because it has changed the name of the Storage Card I can't access any of my installed applications/photos/videos/music...nothing.
If you then soft-reset, as it is rebooting it is looking for items in the content of Storage Card but Storage Card was renamed and the consequence is the phone doesn't boot up correctly.
The only 'tempory remedy' (until I next use Opera) is when the Phone has finished rebooting, I launch Resco Explorer, Rename Storage Card to Storage Card 3 and again soft-reset.
This time when the Phone reboots Storage Card 2 (the real Storage Card) is renamed back to it's original name of Storage Card and the Phone boots up normally.
All seems well until I then load Opera again ........ which then goes through the whole process over again in renaming Storage Card and creating another.. etc. etc.
Help... help... help.
This is more than annoying as it is effecting my work and here we are talking patient care which is of paramount importance to me.
Note:
I have tried rolling back the system to a previous Backup point using Sprite Backup but no matter which Restore file I select once the system reboots to this restore point and I again launch Opera it does the same thing over again.
I got the same, it was because I had changed the cache location to the SD Card, but when I had the device plugged in via USB in Disk Mode it stops the phone seeing the SD Card.
I just moved the cache back to the phone, and the problem goes away!

Are you talking about Cache Directory4 in the Opera:Config?
Edited:
Many thanks statplayer. Initial findings show this may have cured the problem.
I'll be doing some testing later tomorrow when I get up (bed time now).
The only thing I am totally baffled about is I did the Cache Directory switch to Storage Card quite some time back.
Since then I have used Opera and the rest of the system every day without any problems.
What's made it all of a sudden decide it wanted to react today and not on the day I first changed the Cache area???????
Obviously this I would love to know.
Anyway, if this has cured the problem I owe you a debt of thanks.
Will report back tomorrow.
In the meantime ~ Guys if you can offer any further advice on why it's not played up before, please chip in.

I had exactly the same issue in the situation specified regarding changing the Opera cache location to the storage card, accessing Opera with the USB plugged in (not activesync mode), and disconnecting the USB card then causing the phone to call the ACTUAL SD card "Storage Card 2" because Opera had already stolen the name.
It did cause a panick at first!

What I don't though is that I did this tweak quite some time back and until yesterday all was well.
I connect via USB daily and the same with Opera. Not once did I receive any errors.
Something triggered this all off and I would be grateful to whoever who can explain any reason why yesterday it all went 'pear-shaped' and played up.
Thanks Guys.

Fryo I800 installation help!

Ok So I am here because I've posted in other places in these forums with no replies yet, So it would be better to create a thread specific to my problem.
I have an Omnia 2, thinking of acquiring the Fryo 2.2 OS, not specific about wether I want what version but here are the problems I come across before being able to install it.
1- plugging in my phone under Settings -> My storage will not show my storage on my computer, having the external SD option will show my 16GB SD card.
2- Backing up. How do I back up my storage if I can't see it on my computer? When I turn on active sync a blank storage appears other than my SD card (assuming its the internal storage) but the size seems rather small (167MB). I've been reading peoples' posts and I'm supposed to have around 2GB I believe, and either way the files I'm trying to put inside for the android OS don't seem to fit there.
3- Partitions? How can I set those up for both the internal and external storage? Is there a program or feature to do so? My SD card under properties says FAT-32 so I'm not sure on how to do it IF I need to.
4- Using a W7 computer, so that knocks off any ubuntu installations, and also link is broken for Almars Beta 1 file that I was thinking of using for an SD installation.
Any help would be appreciated, I've had this phone since 2009 and I'm really hoping I can come across some help to make it work since I do want to keep this phone for a bit longer before I spend more money on a different cellphone!
Thank you!
Try out the new CyanogenMod from the link below.
http://windows.modaco.com/topic/346446-cyanogenmod-beta1-omnia-2-updated-02122011/
It has the SD Card auto installer, try it..
Back up data on your SD card first and then format your SD card within the phone and then use auto installer to install it.
As you said your computer wont detect the My Storage, try the steps below..
Transfer your data from My Storage to external SD Card, then connect your phone to computer using My Storage mode in settings.
Download Mini Tool partition wizard and format your My Storage (Mini tool partition will be able to see your My Storage even though your computer doesn't).
After format, your computer should be able to detect My Storage.
Now copy the downloaded android files to My Storage and run the auto installer as instructed in the ReadMe file inside the download package.
PS: Don't forget to backup the data on SD Card to your computer
Hope this helps
Ok so what you meant by taking things from my storage is going to file explorer and basically copying everything from the "my device" to the SD card?
Just want to make sure because if it doesent work then I haven't gotten anything backed up right.
Went to file explorer -> copied everything in the top folder which is application date, connMgr, doc and setttings, program files etc. is this all thats needed basically?
Thanks
P.S some of the things I tried taking like global.txt or exe couldn't be copied because of violations or some weird error, is it alright not to have those?
Update: My storage is still not revealed by the mini tool partition program, went under usb settings -> my storage and refreshed disk information, nothing shows up ugh it might be impossible for me to do this after all....
nobody can help me in regards to this? well then I guess a new cellphone is in order
grrrrr I should've gone with a iphone 3G or BB 9700 at the time instead...

I guess you will have to reflash the ROM again since your problem seems to be unsolvable. My suggestions is to flash a stock 6.5.3 ROM before you transfer the auto SD installer.

Strange behavior whenever I do a external SD Card operation.

If I want to copy files, create a folder, save a picture on external SD, every time, some pop-ups like this appear, asking me to select the root of the SD. I can see this is a extra protection, but i want to know more. What kind of protection is it, how can it be controlled, disabled... because many times it actually cause problems.
What is weird (I haven't seen this before on other phones) is the structure of the storage folder. I have inside 4 folders:
emulated
sdcard0
sdcard1
usbotg
In "emulated" is a folder called "0" (zero) that seems to mirror everything that is in "sdcard0" folder.
Phone specs:
P8Lite ALE-L21 Rooted, converted to Dual SIM (B190)
Please see attached images for details of the popup.
it's there so the user can select the permission that an app has to the SD card.
For the weird structure... SDcard 0 is your phones intern memory sdcard 1 is you phones sd card
those other 2 are (and i think, i don't know for sure) just needed for android.
if you go to settings -> advaced-> memory in android 6.0 you can select the card as internal memory. this shoul take care of the permissions and should let memory be catogorized as one partition.

I should have mentioned: Android 5.0.1 (not 6)
And is it there a way to disable this feature? As I said, on many occasions it causes trouble by not allowing a operation to perform properly. I suspect this feature has its own bugs too.
Thanks.

actually it's the same.
it's not a bug it's a feature
in kitkat we had the problem of restriction for the sd card. google changed that into this mode.
where the user grants the permissions. you can disble that the same way as android 6.0
by setiing the default storage location to sd card
in android 5.1 its settings -> memory -> default storage-> sd

Go back to stock, upgrade to 6.0.1. Then see if this helps-
http://www.modaco.com/news/android/...e-adoptable-storage-on-your-s7-s7-edge-r1632/
The article is for S7, but see if you can have that working in the N4 - just have a backup of everything (int SD, ext SD, full backup in recovery).

I tried this in my phone. While the command itself worked after a bit of a tweak, the storage situation was pathetic - the phone showed the External SD as a part of the overall storage, but did not save files to it. Instead, it started saving files to the actual internal SD Card, resulting in space running out pretty soon. The External SD card was just there, and there was no way to migrate the files from the internal storage to the adoptable storage.
I just got a new Note 4 (this is the 3rd one I'm using since the first release in 2014) and I also want to adopt external memory card as my internal space bcos the 16Gg duos version is just too small and app to SD comes with a lot of hassles. After a lot of search for different solutions (which I tried out by the way but didn't work) I came across this thread for another phone entirely but it resolved my issue: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/patch-adoptable-storage-enabler-t3460478.
The only downside is that I can't pop out my card (128Gg Samsung) and plug into my PC but I can still explore it directly from the phone itself.
I've been using the phone for 3 days and it runs smoothly, I hope that solves your problem too.
So there are two parts to the adoptable storage. The first part is the partitioned SD card and mounting the partition. Simple to be done via root essentials or the command line.
The other part is the actual menu entry on an app in application manager for moving it to the second partition. IIRC samsung does not have this support built in. So you need to flash something to replace that manager bit. In my experience with an on5 (like less than 1GB free on internal storage out of the box), adoptable wasn't really worth it, too much stuff still on internal storage. As not every app will allow you to move it to that second partition. It requires both system support and app support.
What I did there was to use the app apps2sd. Same idea, second partition on SD card. But it doesn't show up in settings -> storage. You manage where the apps go via that app. I use the link feature which places a symbolic link in the internal storage and moves all the actual files to that sd card partition.

I've been using apps2sd fot about a year and it comes with it headache too, sometimes the apps wouldn't find the external data (usually games with a lot of data) and it'll start downloading it again into the internal memory, so I usually find myself having to force stop the app, delink and relink the data on the memory card to fix the bind. I also didn't bother to partition my SD card since I can explore it on the PC with my phone connected. What this solution ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/patch-adoptable-storage-enabler-t3460478 ) does is to flash back the option to use the SD card as internal memory that Samsung removed from the phones and it works seamlessly on all Samsung phones with rooted stock OS.
