Change of SD card - music not available - Sony Xperia X Compact Questions & Answers

Hello
I changed mi 64gb with a 128gb SD card.
I copied all the files on the pc to the new card.
Picture app sees all files, but music app founds nothing.
When i go with ez explorer, i can find the sound files.
How can i make music app to see the files? I already cleared cache and settings of music app.

It solved a similar problem I had, that's why I suggested it. I have no idea what's going wrong... You could try to format your new sd card and re-transfer your old files on it, if it's not a big deal for you.

I now formated the card and tranferred all via the USB-cable (took hours...). Now, everything is there, however, the picutures from an archive folder now have all a new date (date of transfer instead of shot).

I have no idea(once again)of what happened with those pictures. If their size isnt' that large, try to transfer them into an other device and see if the same thing happens to it as well.

I had this issue always, when copying to a new device quite anoying, but I should clear up my pictures anyway once....

[Q] Help please 64gb mem card

Can anyone please help me ?, i have copied my music files onto my 64gb mem card i do not know how many times but they keep being deleted ???, this happened on the S5 900F with original software and i have rooted my phone and running Omega 1.7 and it still is deleting my music files. everything else is great pics movies are no problem. i have had all of the S series without any problems ???.
Are they getting deleted of the memory card as in when you open your file explorer and navigate to extsd they are not there or just from your misic player?
If they are disappearing from your music player make sure you dont have a .nomedia file in there. Songs wont come up in the stock media player if that file is in there.
Hope this helps.

no there just dispersing i put the music files in there and when i come to try and play them there gone like they have never been there ??? its weird big time ???
Wow probably try copying all your files off the sd card to your pc and doing a format via the phone. Then copy the files back and see if that helps.
Possibly a bad format or bad card.

If they were stored in external card then easily you can get those back but if in internal memory then I’ve no idea, an expert may help you.
If stored in external card then google it for a free file recovery software, take the card out and plug it with a memory card reader and run the software to recover those files. Make sure after you deleted those files you shouldn’t store or write the memory card, do as less as possible. If the partition where the files were stored, if that overwrite it could goes difficult to recover.
If in internal memory then if you can mount the internal memory as a usb drive, Not as a Media Device. Then probably you can do the same with that software. But I’m not sure about that, never tried.
Also look for any apps for android if available, i’m not sure.

Kitkat - No SD card ??

I am buying my phone tommorow (Currently using Note1 with JB)... and I have heard today tht Kitkat doesn't support writing to SD card.
Now I don't wana Root hence is I possible to break this write restriction ?
My main concern/query is: I store all my music on my SD card and always Store all my pics/videos taken from phone camera on SD card -- So is this functionality still there OR not ?
PS: Plz see post #4
kitKat support writing to SD Card, but not with 3rd party Apps .
With Root You Can .

Why no root, without root access you have a crippled phone.
Hmm.... I got to read a few more stuff abt kitkat problems...
1] Third party (Chinese) S-view covers don't work after kitkat upgrade, which now apparently fixed.
2] Samsung has an solved an issue that prevented writing to external storage (SD) after updating to KitKat.
Can you ppl confirm the above. If yes, I can happily upgrade without any issues.

That is almost true. My files won't show you any folders you created on SD card for specific people. If you create a folder for Fred and put all pictures of Fred in it, you can see it in My files extSd. But if you create a folder called Fred Videos, you won't find it in My files. So if you have downloaded a video to internal memory, first you have to move it in the Fred folder and in Gallery then you can move it again to Fred Video. I tend to find this weird.
I've got all my music, films, comics, magazines and pictures (not photo's!) on my SDcard. They all play perfectly well. JB doesn't allow write to the SD. Reading has never been blocked.
Stock camera takes pictures to the SD. Keep in mind 4.4.2 has a tendency to corrupt the pictures on the SD card. It's why I prefer to keep those internal.
Quickpic has no issue writing to the SD, neither does ES File Explorer.

Have you ever heard of this remarkably useful app. It's called ES File Explorer.... Who the hell uses the severely sluggish and limited My Files?
If you have rooted your phone, then download and use SDFix app from playstore. Then you can use your sd card as usual
Use folder mount
Alrite ! After reading the above I clearly understand that Photos/Videos/Music stored on SD can be read without issues
One more thing, Can large popular games like - Real Racing 3, NFS series etc.. can be transferred/updated on SD card as well ?

[HOWTO] MicroSD as internal storage on latest Marshmallow stock firmware

Hi guys.
I got Galaxy S7's trick, for set the MicroSD as internal storage, working on latest Marshmallow stock firmware.
Requirements: PC, ADB drivers.
I'm reporting here the steps:
0. Turn on "USB Debugging" in Settings->Developer Options;
1. Open the Terminal Emulator (Windows+R and then type "cmd.exe", on Windows) and place in the folder where the adb.exe file is placed;
2. Type "adb shell";
3. Type "sm list-disks", copy the result, and paste it in place of "[diskname]" in the next step;
4. Type "sm partition [diskname] private" if you want to set the whole MicroSD as internal storage, "sm partition [diskname] mixed 50" if you want to set just half of the SD as internal storage;
5. Optional: reboot the device;
6. Go in Settings->Storage->Click on the SD Card->Click on the three dots menu and then migrate data on the SD (thanks to jervine!)
Bugs:
The amount of total usable storage isn't showing, an impossible value is showed instead.

Seems that there's a limitation on the SD Card. I put my 128GB and 64GB MicroSD card in and it only knows if for external storage, no option in making these as internal storage.

As you can see in screenshots I used a 64GB Samsung Evo MicroSD, but I only tried splitting it in half. I'll try with the whole space asap.

Exactly same problem with Z3 compact.
64GB card, insane numbers with minus as a device storage.
I tried this method but it won't let me copy anything from the computer to this "new, big" storage because it says there is not enough space available...

I can't even download apps because of this :/ I'm not sure if it even actually worked...
Any ideas?

You need to migrate data to the 'new' adoptable storage, which then should mark the adoptable storage as the default location for new installs.
Once you have formatted the card as described in the first post, then select it in the 'Storage' settings, and then opt to migrate (or maybe it's move) data to this card in the three dots drop down settings here. Once done you should have freed up space and future installs should use the adoptable storage.
For what's it worth I have this set up on both my Z5 phone and Z2 tablet with 128GB Samsung SD cards formatted in a 50:50 hybird fashion. Working well so far.
Thanks!!
This wasn't clearly stated in the tutorial and as the option is hidden behind the three dots I didn't even see it... Now it seems to work

This worked fine for me, following your instruction. Only thing not working is the camera. i get an error saying Storage not available. I did a full data wipe before installing 6.0.1, so Im wondering whats wrong.

I did not do a full wipe but can verify that I can use the camera and save photos.
Redlabour claimed in this post that this will not work for Sony devices long term and that at some point internal memory will fill up and break the device:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...bletsgp511-t3100821/post66537645#post66537645
I have asked where he heard this, as I can't find any other mention of it. Have any of you seen something about this or experienced this problem first hand? My tablet is still working quite well after following the instructions in this thread.

Same here. Had to reset the microSD using Windows diskpart command. It lookls like this method is not usable at Sony ROMs - at least at the Z2 tablet.

I got same trouble with Camera app. When I partition my card as 50/50 (mixed 50), Camera app says that internal memory is corrupt or write protected, so I can save my photos to the SD card only.
When the card is partitioned for internal memory completely (private), there is no place at all for photos made by Camera app.
Did you partition the whole card or only a part? Where do you save photos?

After a couple of hours the numbers were magically fixed.
I'm unable to see any userdata (or backups) in recovery any more after using this method :/
Any advice?

I tried it and ended up with the same feeling that this isn't working as designed -- possibly because the numbers are all wonky. I've reset the card and will try living with it for a while and see if it actually works on my Z3c tablet.
EDIT: Couldn't get Plex to download the new combined memory -- which was still 16GB. Too bad, wish it worked
Plex is 'funny' - it definitely doesn't see the adoptable storage as available, and this is one of the reasons I opted to format my SD card as a 50:50 hybrid, so that apps that don't see the new adoptable storage correctly can still have access to the SD card.
As noted in some posts above, I also found that the camera wouldn't work when set to save to the 'local' storage (i.e. non-SD storage), and it seemed that having the SD hosted adoptable storage confused/broke the camera. Setting the camera to save to (portable) SD (again because I've formatted as hybrid) allowed the camera to work, with the caveat that due to the SD card potentially being slower then I might get glitchy video or some camera effects might not work. I bought an SD card that had fast write speed to try and alleviate this problem.
My tablet is definitely using the adoptable storage for new installs etc. as I have installed games and apps that previously the tablet complained about not having enough space available to install. Currently my tablet reports:
10.5GB of 16GB internal storage used
12.37GB of 58.87GB adoptable storage used
125MB of 59.86GB portable storage used
And the big number at the top is totally wrong still -21477494784.00 B Total used of 16.00GB
The steps worked fine for me and up until now I've had no issues, but now I'm being prompted for an update from Sony and it fails when it restarts. I'll plug my tab into my computer when I get home and give it a try. Screenshot provided of about tab page
