If they were stored in external card then easily you can get those back but if in internal memory then I’ve no idea, an expert may help you.
If stored in external card then google it for a free file recovery software, take the card out and plug it with a memory card reader and run the software to recover those files. Make sure after you deleted those files you shouldn’t store or write the memory card, do as less as possible. If the partition where the files were stored, if that overwrite it could goes difficult to recover.
If in internal memory then if you can mount the internal memory as a usb drive, Not as a Media Device. Then probably you can do the same with that software. But I’m not sure about that, never tried.
Also look for any apps for android if available, i’m not sure.

To recover your deleted media data including audio video files, you need to go for the data recovery process, shown in the video tutorial here.Check out the link on YouTube youtu.be/5ELyzSaio9U

Hi guys...a friend of mine was trying to transfer photos and videos to his external sd card (3-4gb of data) and somehow the data didn't get to where he intended and now there's no trace of any of it. Looks like his system got corrupt too in the process cause he has lots of files in the lost.dir folder.
My query is that if anyone knows of any way to retrieve these photos. I assume that at this stage they were probably deleted. Maybe there's some kind of retrieval software that can be used?
Thanks in advance.

I would remove the card and see what can be seen on it from a PC. I would also change the suffix of one of the files in LOST to .JPG since I think they may be the lost pictures, as android drops files in lost when it doesn't know what else to do with them.
Last recourse is to try a file recovery app on the Sd card.

Google on pc restore deleted files. Can't remember what one I used but once installed on computer connect via usb and perform a scan on sd only or sd card too if you have one. Whichever one had files deleted.
This works 100% especially if you have not tried to add anything else to the system.

Exact same thing happened to me. I used GetData Recover My Files set in disk mode and got back about 95% of them. The other 5% were corrupt.

piriform.com has freeware to recover lost files on storage media. I used it some time ago after messing with a buggy app that left my ext-sd files in oblivion.
Or it could be my urge to test "promising" apk.
Anyhow, piriform.com saved my day.

During the transfer of data due to interface problem both the source and destination are corrupted so now you need an efficient data recovery software for the recovery of your data and files.
You can still recover all your data and files from that memory card with the help of Kernel for FAT and NTFS memory card recovery software which will do recover your data in a better way. It has a user friendly interface through which you can get preview your deleted data and files from that card and can save all at once or some selective files to your location.

I am buying my phone tommorow (Currently using Note1 with JB)... and I have heard today tht Kitkat doesn't support writing to SD card.
Now I don't wana Root hence is I possible to break this write restriction ?
My main concern/query is: I store all my music on my SD card and always Store all my pics/videos taken from phone camera on SD card -- So is this functionality still there OR not ?
PS: Plz see post #4
kitKat support writing to SD Card, but not with 3rd party Apps .
With Root You Can .

Why no root, without root access you have a crippled phone.
Hmm.... I got to read a few more stuff abt kitkat problems...
1] Third party (Chinese) S-view covers don't work after kitkat upgrade, which now apparently fixed.
2] Samsung has an solved an issue that prevented writing to external storage (SD) after updating to KitKat.
Can you ppl confirm the above. If yes, I can happily upgrade without any issues.

That is almost true. My files won't show you any folders you created on SD card for specific people. If you create a folder for Fred and put all pictures of Fred in it, you can see it in My files extSd. But if you create a folder called Fred Videos, you won't find it in My files. So if you have downloaded a video to internal memory, first you have to move it in the Fred folder and in Gallery then you can move it again to Fred Video. I tend to find this weird.
I've got all my music, films, comics, magazines and pictures (not photo's!) on my SDcard. They all play perfectly well. JB doesn't allow write to the SD. Reading has never been blocked.
Stock camera takes pictures to the SD. Keep in mind 4.4.2 has a tendency to corrupt the pictures on the SD card. It's why I prefer to keep those internal.
Quickpic has no issue writing to the SD, neither does ES File Explorer.

Have you ever heard of this remarkably useful app. It's called ES File Explorer.... Who the hell uses the severely sluggish and limited My Files?
If you have rooted your phone, then download and use SDFix app from playstore. Then you can use your sd card as usual
Use folder mount
Alrite ! After reading the above I clearly understand that Photos/Videos/Music stored on SD can be read without issues
One more thing, Can large popular games like - Real Racing 3, NFS series etc.. can be transferred/updated on SD card as well ?
Dear friends,
My family just came back from a trip to California. And I did a stupid thing that cost all the photos I took with my Samsung note 3. After I took a lot of photos, I want to transfer the photos from internal storage to the external micro SD card, which I've been using for more than 3 years. But the problem is, I did an system update pushed by AT&T to android 4.4.4(KitKat) a while ago. And I didn't know it prevent to write to the ext SD card. The app I used to transfer photos to ext SD card is, MyFiles, a stock app comes with the Samsung phone. The nightmare starts, the app, MyFiles, didn't give out any error/warning message, just pretend the "move" operation was done successfully and erase all the photos from the source, internal storage (DCIM/Camera). I've been working with a data recovery shop in San Francisco, but no luck. I'm wondering if I can find any help here. Any idea that might bring back the photos?
And also, in this case, is AT&T or Samsung or even Google responsible for my loss? Thank you in advance!
Best regards,
Joe
For future reference, there are SDFix apps on playstore to fix the 4.4.x problem with extSDCards.
I'd remove the card and use a adapter to insert into a PC or laptop and then run Recovery software from either Linux or Windows to see what you can get back. They will be .jpg files and most undelete programs will let you put in a mask to find only those files.
With any luck, Android simply deleted them and has NOT written over the space on the card - most OS's will leave recently deleted file space until after other free space has been written to, so the sooner the better.
Good luck.
Hi guys,
First of all, great forum and great place to learn a lot of stuff about ROM's.
I have been using the forums here for a while.
Now I have a problem with my Galaxy S 4.
Galaxy s4 :gt- i9505 (Beglium)
16Gb version
Custom Rom: optimized cm 12.1 -20160118
android 5.1.1
I had some problems playing my music files on the phone, so i connected the phone to my PC.
I deleted my MUSIC folder from my EXTERNAL card.
Then I saw There are a lot more random folders in the ROOT of my EXTERNAL card.
So I deleted the LOG files, some maps that where for AD's (like GO sms), etc.
As far as I know, I did not delete any system files or folders.
While I was in the external card, connected to the PC, I saw that my INTERNAL card had wheeeeyyy much more free space than 5 minutes before. ( normally 0.9Gb free... suddenly 5.72GB free)
So i disconnected the phone and reconnected it again.
Again same thing.
Again disconnected it and on the phone I could not find ANY FILES, NO pictures, No downloads, NOTHING
Basically, my INTERNAL and my EXTERNAL are fully wiped.
with easeUS data recovery I can see all my files and maps on the external, BUT almost all of them are corrupted.
I can not recover them/ preview them.
I have not tried the internal memory yet. It is now doing a DEEP SCAN on the EXTERNAL card, connected to my PC via a SD Card Adapter.
Any possibilities to save something from the external and the internal memory ?
Everything else works normally.
My apps work, my contacts are ok.
PC is set to show hidden and system files => nothing to see
Recycle been on the phone is empty
used some recovery apps from the play store => nothing
Many thanks in advance.
PS: I have already done a search, also on google. But could not find anything useful.
Try Deleter.
I run easeUS recovery all night on the external memory.
Got back 5% of my pictures.
Most ara corrupted.
Same story for the internal memory.
Other suggestions, tips are welcome.
If the data was deleted corrupted then it might be restored corrupted.
I suggest, from now on, to upload your photos Google's servers with the Google Photos app.
You have unlimited storage for photos up to a certain quality.
Yep, i have installed google drive.
Sh#t has happened
Will try to use some other applications for recovery.
Had some pictures i needed.
Any names of really good software to recover sd card of internal memory ?
I told you, if the data was wiped in a corrupted state, then it will be restored in a corrupted stated. Because that's how it was the last time before it was deleted. It's like a checkpoint in a game. If you die, you will revive at the checkpoint in the same state you were when you reached that checkpoint.
You could give Deleter a try. But it won't magically repair corrupted data.
Try a program called recuva: https://www.piriform.com/recuva

I won't recommend it. It failed to recover two videos from my SD card that I needed to recover for investigation purposes, even when status of these files were Excellent. After restored, these files were corrupted. The same thing went on my .OGG file that was deleted accidentally by dBpoweramp before Vorbis Comments ID Tag was applied.
Even my friend said that Recuva was unable to recover her deleted photos as it should be. Yeah, the same thing, corrupted.

I have used recuva many times but, as with any software, it really depends on the state of the data at the time the software is run.
When one is desparate to recover files, I recommend trying as many programs as possible.
Hey guys.
Today i will try many different software.
I am trying to find a way to mount my internal storage as a drive with a driveLetter, so i can scan it.
Now its mte/umte or something like that.
So it has no driveletter.
Hey guys.
I managed to retrieve some pictures from the sd card.
Software i used.
[email protected]
EAsuse
Foenix recovery
For the internal memory.
Digdeeper
And some other ones on play store.
Just search for " photo recovey".
Maybe someone can use the names, if they get in the same situation as me.
Thx for the tips guys!
Is there a way too restore one file i just deleted by mistake. Its important video from my daughter. I looked for reclycle bin, but samsung dosent have any so it seems. any program that works? Did this file really went away, or is it stored still somewhere?
Yes, you can recover it, since you haven't overwritten it with other data yet. There's a app called DiskDigger, where you can recover lost photos, videos, documents, etc. It works even better with root access.
Keep in mind: Don't recover the video on the same internal storage again, as it can overwrite itself when recovering, making it unrecoverable. Use an USB OTG or an MicroSD and recover it to it.

Put the SD on a disk reader and use your computer with a dedicated recovery program. if you use Linux, all the better.

+1 I use this software too, I recommend it highly.
But it only works if the file is ony the SD Card (Which is your case). It doesn't support MTP (Plugging the phone via USB).
