[Request] S8 ROM for J7 Prime. {Info} - Samsung Galaxy J7 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello Mates,
I was wondering if someone out there would please build a ROM which I'm sure many others would enjoy having. I have pretty much tested all ROMS for the J7 Prime and know's what it working on which, and even my contribution with making them better.
My interest is to have a S8 Experience ROM. for example:
- Enigma ROM is pretty close, but... the Edge Panel isn't quite working.
- Fougat ROM is fast, Edge Panel is working well, can download Edge Apps, and they work without issue, but... strings, variables, apps and settings which do not work on the J7P are there which bloat and perhaps hinder the performance. (*This is my current ROM)
- Enigma, Feedstock ROM Emergency Mode dials Emergency service, Note 7 and S8 do not, they send just Text/GPS/SMS. I already had a callback from 911 asking if I was in an emergency.
- I use GRX TouchwizHome on Fougat to tweak the UI to be more like the S8, and have Bixby running on the left panel. Also it adds me another row in the home screen for better widget and folder/icon distribution, like the S8 (5x6 Home, 4x6 Apps).
Regarding Kernels, well the undisputed king is Flash, but not yet for Nougat.
Now these few notes, plus the newly released Nougat, would make for an incredible ROM, keeping with the original implementation Samsung created with the Dream UI. I have available an S8 which I can use to test and compare. Anyone up for it?
Regards,
Paul

That's what I meant in the last paragraph. Even the newly released Nougat custom ROMS are full of bugs, and I'm sharing which ones, Marshmallow and Nougat, have components that work, so we can break them down and take from each what works.

Im in bro ... I am using revolution rom and after few days the phone has a major touch problems while gaming ... Nougat must fix that but he missed in his Revolution rom sow i will flash a stock 7.0 and wait ...

Actually yes
but its not a place to discuss here
.....

Phuck it, I have an alternative.
Here is what I am going to do, if any of you have tested or know of true and tried programs, let's make an "S8 Add-on" pack for this device. Since I already know that stuff like the GRX TouchWhiz is working, and I have a working Bixby build, all I need now is a working Edge Panel build, which I will start testing.
Then from there we can tweak the Original ROM and concentrate on making a very light base ROM. and then we all can flash the Add-Ons we want.
So.... If you know of a Edge Panel build that work, write it here or send it to me.

Any TW user who has moved to AOSP and hadn't regretted since?

I don't know why I am asking this, but maybe because I can't use LP because Xposed isn't compatible with it yet, I mean for TW based ROMs that is, or something else, but I see that a lot of people are using AOSP based ROMs and even happy about it. I personally like stock Android too but for Note series they have always been a mess and either this or that never really did work fine, and I have used that Cyanogen thingy before, the experience was nothing short of awful!
So I am creating this topic, asking to the TW users only, who like TW, has any one of you moved to AOSP based ROMs and finding it good, or better than TW to put it simply? Does everything work, I mean S-Pen related features and all that?
I personally like TW interface. I'm currently using Lollipop TW and i find it really stable. I have also tried teamsek lollipop AOSP. It is stable but it lacks some samsung features like S-pen, S-cover and all those small sensor (smart screen, air view) options that TW software has. The latest version of AOSP that i have tried was teamsek 5.2 i think and it was really nice but battery life wasn't really good. But it might have changed in recent versions. So i suggest that you make nandroid backup and try AOSP and if you don't like it just restore your previous firmware.
Also there are apps on playstore that can enable some S-pen features on AOSP.
Hope i helped

I kinda qualify - I use and like Alliance ROM LP version - 7.1 currently. It is highly configurable and fast. The 'kinda' is because I normally swap to Nova Launcher as soon as a ROM is installed.
But I also use, more as time goes on, Temasek's LP CM12 build - currently 8.4 just installed. I'm liking it more and more as I use it - no Samsung bloat and the S-Pen beta from XDA does all I want with my pen and it's being upgraded pretty regularly as more features are added. I can't think of anything a stock-based ROM has that I don't have in Android 5 from Temasek.
Now if only there was a dual boot kernel around for the Note 3.

So with this ROM (Temasek) there is no problem you notice which isn't there on TW ROMs? Like poor call volume, crappy camera photo quality, the display going yellowish etc.? Basic functions, or the problems with basic functions scare me most.

You can try the one at http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/app-app-samsung-devices-provided-stylus-t3000448 - first post has email to join the beta program.
Also there is CM S Pen Addon from Play - requires root.

None that I have had. There was an issue with the AOSP cam I think where the video didn't work but changing the setting from 4K back to 1080 fixed that. No display issues I even seen mentioned - that was a problem with early AMOLED screens I thought...?
Only issue I have had is my custom ringtone and notify mp3's keep reverting back to default ones on reboot. Most annoying but hardly a deal-killer.
It's fast and smooth and Temasek and his crew are responsive to issues and good at their work.

CM 12.1 worth it?

I had it a month ago and i got annoyed because of the stock camera. (you couldn't focus while making a video or use the flashlight) , but i really enjoyed the experience. Right now I'm back to 5.0 stock, but I would get back anytime to CM 12.1 if you think it worth it.
You could actually get another cam app from the web. There're better ones out there - free and paid ones. The only thing which annoys me is the stuttering bluetooth sound.
I guess it depends on how/what user experience you want from the phone for me its a no brainer cm12.1 all day
Yep, it depends - cm has no real advantages over Samsung rom, the only thing that cm is better at is that it is a little bit faster and smoother, but that is no miracle, it is because cm doesn't have installed almost anything by default and has no background processes running. Now, Samsung rom, well not really, but sixperience v7, because Samsung is too lazy to release not buggy rom - has better battery life, especially in sleep mode (even without turning on power saving mode), better camera app that has settings, gps actually works, fingerprint scanner works and so on. Actually, I tried cm 12.1 myself, and why the hell would you buy s5 and then install this useless cm rom, which makes you loose everything you have paid for, just buy a plain google phone then, seriously.... I know, its hard for new users to understand, but now you will know - if you are not going to use Samsung rom, just buy another phone then, you will save some money.

So can you recommend an other ROM without bugs? Mm... I already tripped my knox so it doesn't matter anyway.
There is no rom without bugs, all android roms are buggy as hell in one way or another, you have to choose what you want. I currently use sixperience rom v7, because i needed gps and all other stuff to work, wanted to have samsung camera app, because all other camera apps are sh1t, especially the free ones, wanted to have better battery life than in aosp roms, and so on, there is enough small bugs, but i do not touch those things, so i'm ok. Actually, i was waiting for samsung 5.1.1 update at first, but later i saw, that it will never happen, as the update will be in "pending" forever... Anyway, there is little to no choise - if you would count only usable roms that are actually in development, there is samsung default rom, from aosp roms there is cyanogen mod rom, and from modded samsung roms there is sixperience rom, thats it. You can try both of these roms, its not that much.

Is v7 available for G900F. I can see only for v4.1 and 5.1 which are avalaible

To boot into recovery mode, you must shut down your phone, then press and hold "volume up" and "home" buttons, also press and hold power button at the same time. When you will see blue twrp logo, only then you can release all the buttons.
yes i did that, but still went into standard download mode. mine is G900i.

Well, fingerprint scanner works good, its not like it uses some kind of third party crappy drivers, its all from Samsung, and gps works ok too, for me it works on both sides. And of course there is sixperience v7 for g900f, how do you think i'm using it ? Go to sixperience thread, and look for downloads on the first page, there is download url for v7.
left side?? me blond, been reading, am i right?: left side has nothing to do with gps, but with "people edge" app, right? and if, why bother to mention it for S5, since it doesnt have edge screen?
and by working gps, you mean gps and not agps? did you need to use a fix for gps from another thread?
p.s. sixperience thread is closed links removed.. /(&$(&%#)/&%
Yeah, I guess left side is for "people", which exists in this rom, so maybe you cant move it to the right side of screen. I don't use any mobile internet on my phone, only wifi at home, so I used gps as only hardware gps, without internet. I used sixperience fixes pack v4, it contained many fixes, also fixes for gps, I don't know if you really need it, but I flashed for anyways. Yeah, I see it, mod closed thread and is asking for kernel source code. Maybe I could send ROM to you via Skype or something else later, if you really need it.
Are the icons like S6? Because I see that in v4 they are original and in v7 they are different
thank you for all that usefull info, i'm struggling with same problem as you did (waiting for proper 5.1.1 release, blah blah...), and i got some strange problems on the phone last week, that's why i started to look for new rom (i'm on Sale's 4.2.2 at the moment). Sixperience seems to be IT, and with your help.
I hope thread reopens in couple days, but if it doesn't i'll ask you for it.

I have tried few most popular roms for note 3 (even tho its TMO i was using supported ones) and i can tell you that stock lolipop gave me best experience and here is why.
My first rom ever to be flashed was darklord note 5 port by darkera13 and even though it gave me stunning battery idle time it also gave me some bad experiences using camera software which was either poor quality or simply not working when it was needed.
Next I tried s6 port by same developer assuming 5.0.2 base would be much more compatible with our official one but there were some massive memory redraws and weird display brightness bug(screen becomes dim on wakeup).
Since roms above were used as base to other port style roms I dont expect any better from them.(not saying they are bad, contrary, but when stability and reliability is in question ill prefer stock sluggy rom.
I must say that I have never used CM on note 3 so I must leave that to someone else but by the time I am writing this i am using stock and only 5.0 rom provided by TMO on top of lean kernel.(also its massively debloated ).
Cheers,hope it helps!!
AryaMod: Fully featured. Stable. Fluid too (as fluid as stock), and believe some features are really handy, like the alarm notification on lock screen which Samsung omitted from Lollipop. Just use it without Xposed, and you are good to go.

Try tazzy-aurora note 5 port with darklord kernel 1.5 & LS speed mod. Everything works fine and it's really fast with good battery life.
I flashed the s6 settings + stock ui mod (extra mods) and i'm really happy with. Also no camera flickering with darklord kernel
See my sig. Temasek ftw ^^

AryaMod IMO is by far the best Lollipop TW based experience available. I tried literally every single rom from here for 5.0 and nothing compares to Arya when it comes to stability, usage, battery... I highly recommend it!
Always back to cyanogemod CM12.1 = quick, slim, reliable. Only negative is of course the lack of s pen, but you got some third party apps for that.
Used to be great fan of miui, however they are now getting less popular by making their new MIUI 7 lollipop based, which is a sad thing.

The best custom ROM for J7 2017?

Hello
in next few months, I will buy this phone over my company. And just want to know what is the best custom ROM for device...does not matter 7.1 or 8.0. Just need ROM to work well without lags, bugs etc.
And what is really important to me - good battery life
Best Rom is Nova Xos 1.2 and Refined note 8 v4
Both android 7.1.1
if you need simple, debloted and very fast rom install xos..
and if want full samsung exprience 8.5 feature..install refiend note 8
Thank you very much for your answer
I read now about these ROMs...both got bugs and lags. Many people write about their problems with these ROMs :/
So..let me ask in another way: which one is MOST STABLE rom for j7?
Maybe to stay on stock...just make root and freeze apps with titanium....?
Refined note 8 v4 if hotspot and AOD is important for you.
It's not important. I just want fluid phone without bugs and lags. I am not power user of mobile phone.

lol then stay with the stock rom if you don't want bugs. the tradeoff if you don't want lag is to use custom roms is those little bugs that might come and go. the one I am using is the refine note8 the only bug is the fm radio but i don't use it so it's not important to me as i feel the battery is the same or it might be longer depending on what you do in your phone and performance is great because i've disabled options, apps here and there try exploring what you could do in the rom. try flashing any of those rom in the thread to see what has less bug for you or no bug at all it all comes down to user preference if you don't want to stay at stock rom.
I see this post just now :/
Thank you very much for answer.
I think will use rooted stock with titanium for freezing unused apps.
Just to ask...can I freeze/remove Knox from phone? Or there will be some issues because of that?

[Discussion] my experience with custom roms in 2 years with this device

I am just telling my experience, all the Dev's are best, they are the ones who let me explore more in around android and it's versions.
I used custom roms on k5 plus 3gb for 2 years i think.
It was like first few months i used the original rom and then i voided the warranty with custom roms as i saw more possibility and newer versions of android coming better than what i had. I kept exploring every part of the phone, and whatever softwares i could use and get more from this phone. Few roms lasted around 4-5 months. I love the nougat roms still, there is a Android Q rom already here, amazing. It was a good experience, until this last few months i started to have battery drain faster when i would use the hotspot feature or use bluetooth for headsets, and gps was like the most battery drainer. I kept changing roms and seeing what would give more bettery life while using, the sleep/screenoff state uses like no energy and then opposite happen if i use in full brightness outside and gps
Then
today i just tried to see the stock rom backup is working or not, it did, and now i realise that the most stable rom is the stock rom that comes from lenovo. The battery life is just way better than any other roms (+1hour than what you get in current Oreo and pie roms), the performance is back, Dolby Atmos is back and works, the inbuilt vr works.
The apps which were quite heavy lagged in animations in custom roms, stock does it smoothly, and i didn't need to get a small gapps package for performance this time, stock has like most gapps i think and it's smooth.
New stuff like play protect, assistant, well-being, etc are now available for this old lollipop rom as well, most of the features in the future versions are now available to use with simple downloads and a few majisk modules, without harming performance.
i am not sure how secure the rom/os it self is with old security patches. But yeah original rom got to be top 5 in best rom/os available for this device in terms of overall usability in daily life.
Tell me what your experience has been, i will use the stock lenovo again now for sometime. And might get back to custom".:good:

Lenovo stock ROM wasn't that bad but after installing Android 10 (AOSP) Custom ROM on my Vive K5 Plus, it's feels a relief.
Yes there are some minor issues & bugs but over all satisfactory experience.
Personally I will always stick with this ROM over Lenovo stock 5.1
Thanks.

AOSP 10 has got another build. I guess the last possible build since Dev may be moving out of Vibe K5 Plus platform.
I have just upgraded to the new build & it's stable enough.
Yes although performance can't be called butter smooth but it's better than previous build & most of the phone features that I may need in daily usage are working fine.
Standby time is good but SoT is on lower side, but I can't blame the ROM, it's my battery which is very old & worn out by now.
Thanks. :fingers-crossed:
The best rom with extended battery life was AOSP extended. i used it for 2 years with Dolby atmos mode and it worked flawlessly. Stock rom eats up battery too fast.
