[Q] Facebook sync

I cannot synchronize FB contacts with phone contats. It says that synchronization is not available. Does anyone know why is this happening?

Try using the Facebook from the Market, Works a lot better than the defaults on the Galaxy

did you try By contact , get friend, add account, add account, facebook (integrated contact account)?

Just tried this one.
It works but it adds the contacts 2-3 times and no pictures...

It sais to me: Sync is currently expecting problems. It will be back soon.
However, it does not look like it will be any soon
If I use Market FB application for sync, it adds friends but without pictures.

I saw this problem mentioned in czech android forum, they are having the same problem since friday. So I think its some server related problem which will be fixed soon.

Sweet... better try to have some patience then. Not my strong side

i synchronized yesterday with the stock app and everything is OK, all contacts with pictures....

I am having the same problem.
Calender sync. seems to work.
contacts not worked for several days.

However, it is strange that not everyone has these problems.
I can also synchronize everything but contacts (History and Activities are working)

Maybe its depending on the ROM you have installed. The European Version seems to have the problem, that syncing Facebook contacts is not possible, without installing the facebook app. But if you cync with the app, you have the problem, that the number of linked people is rising with the reboots you are doing....

So for me, with JF3 Rom and kernel-version 2.6.29 its not possible to sync with facebook...

Worked until yesterday on JM5 with Samset 1.9b.
But after I reflashed it i can't sync. Same ROM and all.. strange.

I remember on my old HTC Magic, i could sync my contacts to their facebook pages, i cant seem to do this on my SGS although i can sync my facebook contacts to my phonebook...
Any idea's?

The problem suddenly arose for me too just the other day. Then I had JM2, no root or other fixes.
Now I'm sitting on JM5 + SamSet 1.9b + lag fix and the problem is still there. I'm just assuming that there are some sever issues atm. I'm from sweden so the theory that it is european-related still holds.

Yeah must be something server related.
Tried removing the Samsung Mobile app from facebook and letting it install again. But did´t help either.

Same problem for me, even with the stock JF3 firmware. Now I'm on JM5 and still the same. I hope either FB or Samsung are aware of the issue and are trying to fix it.

This does not solve the problem.

I had the same issue and fixed it two or three days ago.
It seems the sync in the new 1.3.1 app from the market has issues (probably just with SGS) but can sync contacts (sometimes repeatedly) without any other data like pics. I tried to resolve this several times using the new 1.3.1 version and failed. To resolve my problem I had to:
1. Remove the Facebook account sync entries in Settings > Accounts and Sync > section
2. Uninstall Facebook app 1.3.1
3. Manually add the SGS inbuilt Facebook sync and resync contacts (getting pics etc back)
4. Reinstall Facebook app 1.3.1 from the market, and go through the sign-in wizard, saying 'don't sync' at when questioned.
Now using downloaded app, with inbuilt sync client and it seems to be fine.
PS: The older inbuilt client uses a brighter blue icon with rounder edges and graduated colour - this way you can tell which is which in the account sync area.
Anyone else want to try?

I know it can be changed individually after each time, but I'd rather it go directly to Google and skip TMO setting.

No u don't. Just go to settings, sync, t mobile and uncheck sync.

Tried just disablinh sync, still automatically select tmobile as the default when creating new, any other ideas

That probably means you still have T-Mobile contacts linked to some of your Google ones. Try this:
1) On the web, make sure ALL your contacts are in your Google.com contacts.
2) On your phone, make sure sync with T-Mobile is UNCHECKED and that ONLY Google sync IS checked.
3) Go to Settings/Applications/Manage Applications and choose the Running tab.
4) Scroll and choose Contacts Storage.
5) Select Clear Data - WARNING- THIS WILL ERASE ALL CONTACTS DATA FROM YOUR PHONE. DON'T WORRY. IT WILL SYNC BACK.
6) Go into Contacts. Hit Menu/View. Make sure that T-mobile (and any other accounts you don't want to display) is UNCHECKED.
7) Go back to Accounts & Sync and make sure Google is syncing ant that T-Mobile remains deselected.
You should be good to go when it comes to Google being the default contact entry. If you had contacts linked with Facebook, Twitter or otherwise, you will have to now let those sync and auto-link again. It's worth the trouble, though. Good luck.

Worked for me. Make sure your T-Mobile contacts are empty. Try clearing defaults in contacts before clearing data in contact storage. Dunno otherwise.

I first only deactivated the t-mobile account but left the others active (secondary google account, Qik, etc). It didn't work. I deactivated then the syncing for everythingexcept my main google account. Then it worked.

[Q] Facebook - Contacts Intergration

Could someone help with Dell Streak's Integration between Contacts and Facebook?
(For my friends with Samsung i9000, if they press and hold a contact, they have an option which say "Join Contact", through which they can integrate that particular contact with twitter/ facebook etc)

I have stock Froyo 2.2 on my Streak. If you download the facebook app from Market, upon 1st setting it up, it will give you various options to sync facebook with your contacts.

Running Stock Froyo (!2821) and I've installed Facebook and I do sync the facebook contacts with my phone contacts, however for some contacts facebook doesn't automatically pick up the images (example with different names), in that case samsung users can join contact with various accounts (fb/ twitter etc) as per the screenshot below.. (from samsung galaxy i9000)

So there must be a tweek for Dell Streak users to integrate phone contact with facebook contact!!

I have a problem with my dell too with this issue but all is ok with my nexus one.

Im glad someone brought up this very annoying issue. I love my Streak but my biggest complaint is definitely Regular Contacts/Facebook Contacts integration.
On my Samsung Galaxy S, after syncing Facebook contacts with standard contacts app there is an option to "join" my pre-existing contact with there facebook counterpart. (So i then have there phone number and facebook/twitter info combined in one contact listing, not two.)
On the Streak i cannot figure out how to do this as it says facebook contact information cannot be edited on this device.
Does anyone have a fix for this?

Click that card and that will take you to the a contact page with their facebook info. Doesn't work for me on Steve's 1.4.6

problem is it isn't working on the streak in froyo. Worked just fine on my nexus one. I think this might be a bug with the Dell Froyo.....anyone know the support contact to send bug reports to at Dell?

Bug also exists for Skype contacts.
Hope someone cracks this ... 'tis very annoying having duplicates.

I don't know if you have tried this app from the market. It's called "phonebook 2.0" it's got an option of joining the contact with Facebook photos. It's free and looks better than the default one.

The issue isn't just with facebook joining of contacts its all contacts can't be merged when using 2.2 on the streak

Okay, after spending some time over the weekend, I have stumbled on a temporary solution for the contact joining issue.
What is causing the problem is when the Join button has been clicked, instead of doing a joining, it somehow got registered as adding a New Contact (which is one of the icons in the menu).
In order to correct this problem, the button mapping needs to be reset. So simply put, all we have to do is change the screen orientation.
First, hit the menu button when you are in the contact card and go to Edit. Click on menu again to bring up the Join button. DO NOT HIT JOIN YET. Instead, change your screen orientation at this time (with the Join menu showing), either from portrait to landscape or vice versa. Soon after the orientation has been changed, click on Join, and voila, choose a contact to merge to .
Since I'm not a developer, I'm not so sure if this is a easy bug for DJ_Steve to fix, but I definitely think Dell should fix this in their next update along with the Bluetooth Voice search bug. These shouldn't be that hard to fix for Dell.
Anyone has a way to get to someone in the higher position from Dell so we can show them a list of bugs needs to be fixed?

NICE JOB. Not sure how you figured that out but I managed to get it to work on my streak as well. Took me a few tries but it worked. I will pass this on to the Dell.com forums and my contact person there to see if this can't get pushed along.
UPDATE: seems you have to pull up the regular contact first and do the menu-edit-menu-change orientation-then join. You can't start with the facebook contact then merge it to the regular one has to be regular to facebook.

One more problem though, I tried using applications like contapps and Phonebook 2.0, but when i try to authorize the app with facebook, it cannot connect to facebook.
Facebook app for android and web access for FB works fine, but from inside other apps I cant connect to FB to fetch Data.

Under accounts and sync in your device settings add a facebook account. Then in I context list you can change the display settings to show facebook contacts along with created ones.

Make GMail default contact save location?

So I had an EVO before my MyTouch and when I saved a contact it went straight to my GMail account. I noticed contacts were missing from there today and was confused, I found out when I save a contact the default location is T-Mobile's sync app. I tried disabling it under accounts and sync and all I can do is turn off sync but when I add a new contact it still defaults to that account. Now I know I can change it in the little drop down but I would prefer just to have GMail as the default so that I don't forget to change it or something. Plus every time I do change it this stupid warning pops up.
Anyone know how do make GMail default? I can't find settings for it ANYWHERE!

Does nothing, I am fully rooted running stock ROM but when I search that and delete everything T-Mobile sync stays in my setting and when I restart all those files come back if I seach with root explorer again...

You can be "fully rooted" with permaroot, but are you S-OFF in hboot? If not, any modifications to /system will revert on any reboot.

to root and gain S-off. If it is any connection I also can't get any of the over clocking kernals/mods to work on my phone. This is a replacement MyTouch, my last ones screen shattered. But I was able to root and over clock that one, never tried this deleting T-Mobile sync till I got this replacement phone.

Just uncheck "tmobile" from the view menu in the contacts screen. Then it will automatically select Google as the default save location.

Also does nothing, at least for my phone and my stores demo MyTouch... Still defaults to T-Mobile and you can't remove the account in settings either because it says to master reset it.

Make sure you don't use faves. If you have any contacts in faves, T-mobile becomes the default save for contacts. I just froze the faves app and widget along with applying all the other suggested fixes and so far google remains my default save.
...also, delete data in contacts storage app and resync everything to google.

I just deleted anything that had to do with My Favs as well as all the nab files in root explorer and now it defaults to Google most of the time, seems like depending on who you enter the contacts menu it switches from Google to phone. If I go to contacts via the app drawer and add bee, Google is default, but if I click the phone in the launcher bar then go to add a contact it makes phone the default. Doesn't matter to me though I go through app menu most times and either way at least its not on T-Mobile. I'll use the thanks button when I get home the app doesn't have the option.

No problem. If you look at my post history, a couple weeks back I wrote a pretty detailed process on how to keep Google as your default contacts. It explains how you need to unlink (or better, delete) all contacts and basically only use Google to sync. Glad to help.

This doesn't appear to be correct. One of the first things I do when dealing with Contacts is change the 'View'. I only have one Google account and my Facebook checked for my View Contacts > View options and when adding contacts, I keep T-Mobile hidden, my other Gmail account hidden, etc. T-Mobile is still the default Contact Type.

This seems to have the same effect, since now I no longer have T-Mobile as a Contact Type when I go to add a new contact...
What I don't like however, is that of my 3 Contact Types - Google (Gmail #1), Google, (Gmail #2) and Phone, Phone is the default Contact Type now when adding new contacts...
Is the same true (i.e. that Phone is the default Contact Type) after deleting anything to do with Nab?

My default seems to stay google now that I changed it from phone the very first time after deleting nab and my favs. It did originally default to the phone though. Also it seems like it may depend on how you actually enter your contacts. If you go in through the Contacts app via the app drawer google is the default, if you go in via the little phone in the launcher bar it seems to make phone the default. odd?

[SOLVED] Gmail after last update (5.0.1 - Dec 16)

Gmail has been killing my battery for almost 2 days, I haven't changed a single setting in the Gmail app or any account info, but it seems that with the new update Google messed up the Gmail app.
I charged the phone before going to sleep, and then went to bed to see the drain overnight (I usually do this to see if something is wrong), and when I woke up, I had a drain of about 15% overnight when usually I have around 5%.

Besides this, it seems that the app itself is behaving real bad, I usually turn off sync when I'm not on my home or work, and today I received a mail when sync off.
Have any of you guys have a similar experience?.

Solution
It seems that there are some problems with no Gmail accounts and sync, so I deleted manually all the accounts, deleted the cache and the data of the Gmail app and re added everything. It has been a day and it seems that the problems is gone.

I tried to use Inbox, but it lacked of support for another kind of accounts (Outlook, Yahoo).
It seems weird this update, everyday is the same, and although battery life in Maxx is really good, this still is a big problem.

You likely have an account that is stuck in the syncing/refreshing phase. I'd suspect its a non-gmail account.
Clear data from Gmail and then force stop it. Then open it up and let it resync.

I already tried to do that since the last update, also rebooting the phone and more over, to force the stop in the app and cleared the cache also.
Besides, this shouldn't be happening, I mean, the only change in the last few days was the update, so it's likely that the problem is that.
I have also researched on internet, and it seems that couple of people is also reporting it.

I use Gmail and no problem so far. I always leave sync off and swipe down to refresh. Here's a screen shot from this morning.

Problem is that even with sync off, I'm still receiving mail; that's why I think that the update is messed up.

I have the update but I have HD voice turned off, don't know why that would matter. I almost forgot, I also removed most of the apps listed in the "Apps to Remove for Pure Android" thread.

Try uninstalling gmail reboot then install gmail once back booted up.

How many other accounts do you have synced with Gmail? Maybe try removing the accounts one by one until your battery drain goes away.

I can´t uninstall Gmail because is a system app.

I have 1 Gmail, 1 Outlook and 1 Yahoo account, I will try to see if this could fix the problem.

You do know gmail now allows to link other emails right? u can use hotmail, outlook, and yahoo via gmail app.

What I have done, is install a third party app (cloud magic) and use it for all my email accounts.
I actually have both my email and gmail apps disabled.

That´s what I meant, I have all my 3 accounts on the Gmail app.

I prefer to use the stock apps, just to feel the stock Android experience.

I tried to delete cache and the data, re added the accounts again and it seems that it solved the drain.
