Purchase regret - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

So I just got a S7 edge, and it's a great phone no doubt. But, the more I use it the more I miss my Moto Z Play. I have to charge this phone every day and I haven't changed my usage. I charged my Z Play every 2 or 3 days on average. Speed, is the same for every day usage. Gaming is faster I guess, but I don't play 3D games anyway.
I bought it because it's waterproof and I can use it on my motorcycle for navigation. But, it feels like to me in every other way inferior to the Z Play.
Am I missing something? Anyone know a good reason I should stick with the s7 edge? I'm really thinking of selling it and going back to the Motorola. Maybe just use a generic waterproof case if it rains.

If you're not happy with it I'd get rid. Prior to this phone I had a HTC One M8 and should have waited for the HTC 10 intead of getting this. The quality of the UI to HTC's is incomparable, as well as other features. All in favour to HTC I add.

Got my Z Play back and did some side by side comparisons with accubattery. Big difference, S7 edge is up for sale!
I will say, the s7 edge has superb standby usage. But when the screen is on, drains battery like a mofo.

Does the Z Play slow down much? I have a 6P at the moment and it is plenty fast enough, but I want really good battery life. What SOT do you get usually?

The Z play is super smooth, since it's running pretty much stock Android with 0 bloat.
SOT is generally around 10 hours with average usage. With light usage I charge it on Friday then again on Monday.

10 hours? Really? That is mental!! My 6P gets 3 on a really good day. Were you tempted by the z2 play?

No, the Z2 play has a smaller battery (3000mah vs 3510mah) and therefore poorer battery life. Not interested in it at all.

Have you played Pokemon Go on it before? If not, would you mind installing it and seeing if it runs smoothly? Thanks

Actually, the processor is more powerful and has a better technology. That's why it will have MORE battery life.
The faster the processor goes to top speed, does what it needs to do, and go back to low, the less battery it uses. Also, the processor itself is more power saving, allowing more battery save usage.
Just bought one today and I love it. Display is better than the rviews said and its plenty quick. Have to say im very satisfied with this tablet

I think you're misinformed. It will have the same "size" battery, as in the overall capacity. I don't believe anyone has said it's the exact same battery. So the battery alone, at the same capacity, could have better performance(there's more to a battery than just the capacity). Additionally, as was already mentioned, the newer processor is even more efficient. Other random components in the device are probably newer parts(even if they have the same numeric rating specs) and are also probably even more energy efficient. The screen is the same resolution, but not the same screen. So it's probably even more energy efficient.
All of that said, I would expect similar if not increased battery life, on a tablet that most would agree is fairly good on battery life already(it's not "great" by any means, very few tablets reach that level today, but it's good enough for most to last a week or so with moderate use).
I don't think I'd buy a regular Tablet Z right now with the Z2 Tablet coming out within the next month or two, unless it was under $350USD(assuming the new 16Gb wifi model will sell for $500USD as the previous one did....here in the states).

Considering the price difference to the actual changes of the z2 Imo it didnt warrant spending almost double for the z2. I just bought the z1 for less than the $350 price tag and like you mentioned although id rather have the newer of the two it just didnt make sense paying an exra $200. This is an awesome tab nonetheless, quite overlooked and also unfairly reviewed Imo. My only gripe may be battery life

Nexus 6 very 'stuttery' & weak battery compared to my HTC One M8

So I just got the Nexus 6 on Thursday and have been using it for the past 4 days. I have everything set up the way I like it but I find the performance to be pretty sub-par. I'm coming from the HTC One M8 which was a buttery smooth device so that's what I'm comparing it to. So far, I find basic tasks to be slower and less smooth that the M8...Basic things like swiping left to the Google Now page have severe stutter and opening the app switcher has significant lag. Also, the battery seems to be much weaker than the M8. Yesterday I took the N6 off the charger at 8 am and had to recharge it TWICE just to get through the day (granted, this was a heavy usage and screen on-time day but I've never had to do that before with the M8).
I've read about encryption slowing down the device significantly but I'm wondering if that would be the cause of some of the issues I'm having. If so, do you people who have decrypted think it's worth it? Any M8 users have similar (or contrary) experiences with the N6 so far? I was really excited to get this device but so far it's been somewhat of a letdown. I'm hoping Google fixes many of these issues in a software update but I know that's wishful thinking on my part.
I would have to agree that it has some stutter, especially compared to my Nexus 5 on lollipop. That thing is butter.
Well its the first build of lolipop for Shamu so I hope Google fixes the bugs and irons out battery issues. I think everyone's battery life will vary but software should be able to fix this considering it has a huge battery.

I actually have the opposite experience. My N5 had a bit of stutter that I don't have on the N6. Also, the battery life is *immensely* better on the N6 than N5 (I don't have an M8 to compare, but I'm looking at probably double what I had on the N5).
Yesterday I unplugged the phone at 12:30 (it was a rough Saturday night) and used it somewhat-heavily throughout the day (3 hours of screen on-time), and it was at 55% when I put it back on the charger at around 11:30pm.

I REALLY hope that this is true. With the big deal made about "Project Volta" I was expecting big things from the battery life on this phone. I've been very disappointed so far. As for performance, they should have made encryption optional if that is, in fact, what's killing performance. A top of the line device in 2014 shouldn't have lag when swiping between homescreens....that's just ridiculous IMO.

Why would Nova, with more animations, be smoother than the stock Google Now Launcher? Unless you have animations disabled? And do you have Google Now on the left most screen or is that disabled? I guess I should also mention I used the Google Now Launcher with my M8 and that had no lag so that shouldn't be the issue.

I think it's got to do with the launcher as well. I have Nova and it's super smooth. Unlike the official Google Now launcher that's stuttery.
Battery life is just ok. Probably it will improve after few cycles.

I'm not sure what you have going or what you are doing with your phone, but I haven't found any of that to be true for mine so far. Granted, I've only had it 2 days now but I've found its as smooth as my n5 with kitkat, and battery has been better than the n5. I've never had the m8 so I don't know much about it, I know in tests it generally won most if not all the battery life tests so it's a high standard. I currently have 2 hours 20 mins of screen on time with 43% left, that's with gmail, Fit, calendar, chrome, music, and photos all synced. Also have dropbox set to auto upload pictures, and I have always on OK Google. Screen is set at about 75% brightness.
All I can say is read the battery life thread and make your decision.

If I could get 5+ hrs of screen on time I would be satisfied but I'm not getting anywhere close to that. I have the following services syncing:
2 Google accounts and their associated services
Chrome
Photos
Facebook
Dropbox (auto photo upload)
Fenix (for Twitter)
Press (RSS reader)
Weather app
That's really it.
Whatever. Go use an LG G3 for a few months, and then tell me about how the Nexus 6 "stutters".
I'm easily getting 5 hours SOT and around 18 hours overall with my N6. I am able to get this consistently. I also don't experience any stuttering. I have encryption disabled though.

Did you try the device before disabling encryption? Wondering if you could comment about the difference.
I came from the M8 as well and while I do notice the occasional stutter on the N6, the overall experience is still awesome. I spent some time with the M8 again yesterday to help my wife set it up and I don't miss it at all.
In regards to the battery, the N6 has been right on par with the M8 in my experience. I got through a day and half with a little over 4 hours of SOT this weekend. I don't know what you're doing that requires you to charge it twice a day, but something's not right.

I don't game on my phone. Ever. I watch the occasional YouTube video but not more than 15 mins. And my brightness is always around 50% with adaptive brightness turned on. Pretty much the opposite of everything you just said and if that were the case I'd be smart enough not to question the battery life.
I think the stuttery stuff you're seeing is Lollipop rather than a particular phone. I felt the same way when my Nexus 5 got updated. I think all the pointless animations Google is adding causes what appears to be stutter. When I compared my N5 to the N6 both phones act the same though the Nexus 5 performs every action a split second faster than even an un-encrypted Nexus 6. I think that's because of the huge screen resolution on the Nexus 6. Both phones seem equal in terms of smoothness or rather lack of smoothness.
I have used the Nexus 6 encrypted and un-encrypted and noticed no difference. I left it off just in case there is a difference that I am not perceiving and may benefit me in some situation.
As for battery life my Nexus 6 gets twice as much screen on time as my Nexus 5 (Nexus 5 screen time went down with Lollipop). I get around 4.5-5 hours SOT now and the Nexus 5 on Lollipop was hitting about 2.5 after the Lollipop update. My brightness is 3/4 of the way up on Adaptive with the Nexus 6.
I think Google turned Project Butter into Project Stutter

Could you please tell me about the camera lens? I mean to ask about the tiny scratches on the camera lens after usage of a week or two, these scratches are only visible under the light when camera lens is facing the light source. please update about it.
WHY?!

HI,
Im struggling to understand how one is able to attain a SOT of even more than 4 hours. Could the signal strength be a factor for SOT?
I dont have bluetooth turned on nor wifi with automatic screen brightness, i barely get passed 3 hours. Heck, i dont even have the facebook app on the phone.
Please enlighten me on how you have managed to get an SOT of 8 hours. Thanks!:cyclops:
Other than the lock screen issue, the other two are just nitpicking, in my opinion.

Great video, disagree entirely with battery. This is the first phone EVER, that I do not have to charge before bedtime. Real life use. Everything else including the Samsungs will need a charge early evening at least. This one, never.

That is so true even in my case. I use my phone like usual and I get 3-4 hours of SOT. Last night I went to bed, it was on 16%, so I put it on charge.
I am surprised when people around me talk about 6-7 hours of SOT. Makes me wonder, if my battery is bad, or perhaps I need to reset my phone and start again.
By the way, this is within a week of buying the mobile. I never saw more than 4 hours before last night.
I must say battery life is great . I am a heavy user too n I do not disable any stuffs except GPS ( enabled it only when needed). My MINIMUM SOT is consistently 9 hours . With greater usage of wi-fi 10-11 hours. Is quite similar to my other mi mix with higher capacity battery. These are similar SOT with Mate7, Mate8.
As comparison these are other SOT on my other phones I had used : s7e 6-7, one plus 3t 5-6, V20 5-6, iPhone 7+ usage 11-12

Camera at low light could improve further, it have some software issues.
If noticed that when battery low, the phone throttles graphics and cpu performance, i hope it will be resolved.
Also typing with swiftkey doesn't feel smooth as with my s7e, it has some delays, sometimes though it works fine.

The perfect Pokemon Go phone..

My search is over. I have been trying to find a phone that lasts when playing pokemon go without having to carry a giant battery back or recharge for an hour and a half. At first I thought it was the LG G5 - I could swap out batteries with ease but even so it was chewing through the batteries and it became a hassle. Tried the S7 edge - great battery life but to extend it required a bulky case. Moto Z - close. Oh so close. With two kate spade wireless battery packs I was good for a full day of poke hunting...but then, then I got the Moto Z play. OMG. It lasts a full day with no other boosts, no recharging, no external battery pack. Sure it is not the highest end specs but hell I never notice. With a full charge and my trusty Kate Spade battery pack?? I am good for two days of HEAVY use. (Pokemon Go uses gps, graphics, wifi if it can, location, everything on the phone..it can be very taxing.). In addition to all that, it lasts as a regular smart phone...all day, everyday. I love it. Takes nice photos, android pay works with the fingerprint scanner (cough axon 7...cough)..omg I LOVE THIS PHONE.

I'm currently looking to replace my Nexus 6P. It only lasts an hour of PoGo and only a few hours with the screen off and my PoGo plus connected. My options for upgrading are the S8, S8+, G6 and the Moto Z. I would go for a Z Play or Z2 Play if they were an option.
I looked at the S8 and G6, but I didn't really like either of them. I have yet to see a Moto Z in person. The Z Play doesn't seem to be available in Canada.
After the battery issues with my 6P (it dies quickly and shuts off at 30 to 40%) I'm weary of the Pixel. The Pixel 2 won't be out for months. I love stock Android though. I'm not a fan of what Samsung has done with the O/S.
So what's your question? Or you were just sharing your thoughts
Sent from my XT1635-02 using Tapatalk
Hmm, good point.
I guess, in light of the fact that I don't seem to have access to the Moto Z Play, how well does the Moto Z run Pokemon Go? I can get it for $20 as an upgrade and I don't mind spending another $80 or so on a battery mod.
The alternatives are the LG G6 or Samsung S8, but I wasn't impressed by either. I just took my Nexus 6P for a 30 min walk and it went from 100% to 60% while playing PoGo. It dies at 30% so it would have only lasted another 20 minutes or so. Having the ability to add a battery mod is "almost" like having a replaceable battery.
Somebody still playing Pokemon Go?!
Why you're not asking such question in Mot Z sub forum? If exists at all.
I had (still have but display got damn green lines) Moto X Force and Z Play has way better battery life. According reviews, Z is more powerful but not even close battery life as Play.
Alternatively, you can just cross the border and buy Play in US. It is available in Best Buy and Fry's (where I bought mine).

Official S20+ Exynos Battery Life Thread

Post your Battery usage here. Lets see what we get with these new devices.
Is Bad battery...
Can't say I'm very impressed so far, I switched from a snapdragon s10 plus. Stand by battery drain was never a problem on the s10. I would finish the day with at least 50% battery left. Less than 3 hours screen time and I'm at 40%. And that's running at 60 fps, 1080p. Snapdragon was so much more efficient for me.

So far, not too impressed either, getting 5.5 hours of screen on time, with no video watching or gaming. Literally bit of instagram, whatsapp, messenger, camera and spotify. This is at 120hz FHD+.
This will honestly be my my ''normal usage'' but still having removed it from charge at 9.30am and after 12 hours on 20% is a bit sad to some point, specially after those youtube videos with 6.5 hours of screen on time playing games and and filming videos and what not... Hopefully they will get a fix for it, this is UK version with the (not so lovely) Exynos...
Coming from an LG G6 lets say battery wise Im having same performance
For me 6 hours with 120hz, that literally destroys the battery, switching back to 60hz you get 1 - 2 hours more....watching youtube is no issue, but as soon as you get to any scrolling or
multitasking it all goes away.. especially with that 120hz, also it's not very efficient in standby, you can go to sleep with 100 percent and wake up with 93 or something like that..
Hopefully they'll get an update
Not awesome battery life, if I wasn't careful I need to charge twice a day
50% left, 2h33 min screen on. I disconnected charger at 12am, woke up at 7am. Lost 5% during the night with 4g on. I was playing a lot today. Screen at 120hz
It's so unbelievable bad... Damn :/
I'm glad i.ordered the Snapdragon version
This is always the case when buying Samsung flagships early. An update comes out a few months after to address the issue.
Hmm, I have to agree with you. Upon further use, I don't think stand by drain is the issue. It seems to be more app optimisation. Have to give it some time for developers to optimise their apps for this processor.

Don't get me wrong I totally agree with you. There is even speculation that exynos doesn't get the same Sony sensors for the camera. Instead we get Samsung made one's. Totally not cool for sure. I imported a snapdragon s10 last year and it was amazing for battery life profomance. But honestly, I can fully charge this phone in just over an hour. So to say that the shorter battery life is a major problem is just not true imo.

Where did you get your Snapdragon S10 from? I think I'll order from Amazon.com
Which country are you from? Did the Snapdragon work perfectly with your carrier and 4G?

In Australia. Had the china s10 I believe. Everything worked just fine. Although I believe things are a little more complicated when it comes to 5g.

Unless one is next to the wall everyday or likes carrying a power bank that personally I hate, it certainly is a problem.

I understand, but I haven't come even close to needing to charge the phone during the day yet. I'd say I'm losing about 10 to 15% more battery then I did on the s10 so all good for now.

Yes, "usage pattern". I'm charging twice a day with the +, something that I did years back..
This is the only complaint i have so far, battery life. It is not disturbingly awful, but I usually have to charge it in the late afternoon, so I dont run out of juice in the evening (I am getting 3.5 - 4 hours of screen time). Situation is even less annoying since It charges really fast. I am running optimised battery plan, bluetooth, wifi, data on. Other than that it is a beast, I am fully enjoying android freedom over my iphone X. Battery will probably improve with updates though.
First and first full charge, 120hz all time. Let's see next days.
