How is flashing an older boot.img and bootloader.img going to help? There are plenty of places to find the old image file, just unzip and extract.... but don't think that's going to solve anything. Are you on the current stock .019 build?

invalid magic code 0x0000003 while trying to write system.img

wtf does this mean and how can i get around it? i've unlocked the bootloader, and am trying to flash a system.img using fastboot. fastboot sends the file ok, but write fails, and the phone states invalid magic code 0x0000003 (or maybe a few more/less 0's)
why?
It most likely means, that the system.img got corrupted somewhere along the way.

but i've tried to flash two images, and same error for both. i can flash a radio.img, though haven't tried the recovery or boot
i'm on stock, i've only upgraded with ota's from google, but one thread somewhere seems to suggest that you only get it if your recovery image is not stock
so, this is a big wtf for me.

Wouldn't recommend you try it on a locked bootloader.
Those that are unlocked shouldn't have any issues.
Technically, with a locked bootloader, if Fastboot will allow you to downgrade, then it should be possible.
You'd have to boot into Fastboot, then run the command:
fastboot flash system system.img
Where system.img is the 4.1.2 image file extracted from the fxz file. If it won't let you do this, then downgrade isn't possible. It will likely say failed flash and you'll have to flash something to kick the phone out of fastboot like logo.img.
You could also try RSDLite and try to flash the 4.1.2 fxz, but I doubt that will work because bootloader and such are not downgradeable and it will likely fail.

You can get them here:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=8
You can extract the original system.img from the archive as well as logo.img in case the phone doesn't allow you to flash system.img, you can use logo.img to kick the phone out of Fastboot. You will need to install Motorola ADB drivers on your computer in advance, and also need a fastboot.exe file which I think you can find via Google, but if you have ever rooted your phone in the past, usually that also came with fastboot.
Anyway, get into fastboot mode by turning off the phone, then holding down all 3 buttons. Use vol- to select Fastboot and vol+ to choose it. Phone should boot into fastboot.
Connect to PC and issue command:
fastboot flash system system.img
If it works, the phone should be downgraded. If it says flash failed, then downgrade isn't possible. In that case, if the phone is stuck in fastboot mode and can't be rebooted, issue this command to get out of fastboot.
fastboot flash logo logo.img
That should let it reboot as normal.
I actually doubt it's possible to downgrade, but I haven't tried it myself so I can't say for sure.

Thank u so much my friend, I need to clear that I m using this phone in India with Reliance CDMA network. If downgrade will succeed then will it in verizon locked condition or it will remain unlocked for global use? Also I need to add that I have never unlocked my bootloader or rooted my phone.

I think it would stay unlocked since you wouldn't be reflashing the radio.
It is easy enough to re-unlock if that should get reversed, however.
Ah, nevermind. Don't bother to try it. Even if you could succeed, you'd end up with black screen after the logo. The newer bootloaders will not allow Jellybean to boot. There is no way to downgrade. KitKat is a one way road with a locked BL. Sorry!

Sorry for the bad news. I'm in the same boat now too. Thought I would experiment with ways to preserve root, and long story short, now I'm stuck on an unrooted phone on stock KK with locked BL.
Why do you want to downgrade? If it's to be rooted, sorry, no solution for that. If there is some other issue, maybe there is a solution for that specific issue.

The issue is my CDMA data is not working after upgrade to kitkat. I m from India and using Reliance CDMA sim. Before update, everything was working perfect. But now only data(EVDO or 1x) is not working. GSM data(3G & 2G) is working.
Please help if u have any solution for this issue.

Good news is that major developments happened a month ago. :good:
You can now root AND unlock bootloader on KitKat. I think you can find the info you need in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783806
Once you have bootloader unlocked, you can downgrade back to JB. I have tried it and can confirm it works.
Good luck!

You just run it and let it do its thing. Your phone should be rooted once it has rebooted. You can verify with any rootchecker app.
Then install and run Motopocalypse.apk to unlock your bootloader.
You can the use RSDLite to flash back to JellyBean using the JB fxz file. You will need to edit the xml file in the fxz file, removing the lines with gpt.bin and tz.mbn.

Whoa, man, slow down! Probably shouldn't be messing with these things if you don't know what you're doing, you're gonna brick your phone. Bootloader doesn't go in the boot partition, it goes in the bootloader partition. Radio goes in the radio partition. You don't flash any of these things with recovery anyway, you flash them with fastboot. Look at my guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3206928
Thanks I got it all figured out via fastboot but now I get an error at startup saying there is an internal error with my device please contact manufacturer for details

It's impossible to help you without all of the details.
Thanks for the help I got it all figured out I flashed the 29 vendor over 89D that's when I got internal error. I then I upgraded bootloader and radio via fastboot then flashed pure nexus all is running good now

Error downgrade to MM

Hi, i used to have nougat "forced", when i flashed MM stock rom, the gpt.bin line showed me an error, but i think this error is normal due the downgrade, but also it showed me in the boot.img and recovery.img lines the error: image not signed or corrupted
It's that normal due the downgrade? Or what's wrong? I have the xt1621, unlocked bootloader.
Regards.
Maybe it is not yours boot.img and recovery.img ... Did you do it via fastboot?

Hi, thanks for the reply, and yes i did it via fastboot, i think it's because the nougat rom was not for my device (now i know), but nougat worked very well, i suspect the boot.img and. recovery.img can't flash due the upgraded nougat bootloader?
Well, really i don't know. But i guess you can do everything with your phone if you have unlocked the bootloader.

All credits to him.
Basically, this modded Recovery just saved my a** )))) Just unzip using 7z then flash it to Recovery as normal.

But for flashing do I need to unlock bootloader or it can be done without unlocking?

If it needs to flash recovery the same way as we do for custom roms like fastboot flash recovery in platform tools then i tried that doesn't work to make it work bootloader needs to be unlocked I did that(unlocked the boot loader) then flashed stock recovery and it worked but after locking the boot loader with fastboot oem lock same issue happened again couldn't boot into recovery.

To flash ANY partitions, u must unlock bootloader even if the partition is critical or not. And to prevent the boot/recovery image damaged error, u must flash stock boot/recovery images along with vbmeta.img ( also extracted from stock, same build ).

This is simply Stock Recovery with ADB enabled bro. It only can help u in some tasks which need to access adb via Recovery, it won't help to decrypt ur device and/or have any functions as other custom recovery
