So far I have began the bases for creating a device tree for the idol 4 keep in mind this will not work for the idol 4s.
https://github.com/TeamRegular/android_kernel_alcatel_msm8976-common
https://github.com/TeamRegular/android_device_alcatel_idol4
The kernel is common because the idol4s and idol4 share the same soc base 8976. So this means it's possible to split the 4 tree into a common tree for idol 4 and idol 4s but I do not own this device so I won't focus on that. This thread is just to get the community hyped and generate a group of people willing to test. I also want to mention that builds will be tested on the USA cricket variant. Also if you have any questions I am also a cricket sales representative.
I'm definitely willing to do some testing, I have the cricket variant as well. Excited to see some progress on this device!
I'm excited to see someone working on development for the cricket idol 4. I just got mine working again after waiting for parts from China to repair the USB port. The stock rom isn't terrible but having some better rom options would be great. I'm willing to test when something becomes available. Thanks for your work
Im in for testing too
You can count me in.
I alreayd supported @DeckerSU and tested his root method for the Idol 4.

The cricket variant is 5.2 inches that's about the main difference unless there is camera variation between them. I couldn't tell because of the many devices in the kernel. 4 and 4s share the same kernel source.

Better learn how to port ROMs then, people like to say they're going to do stuff for this phone but in the end if you want it you gotta do it yourself

users of the vk810 are currently prepared to fork over $135+ to the Developer that produces a working L build, doesn't have to be 100%, but it needs to have the basics; data, GPS, wifi, etc... Any takers?
BOUNTY SET TO $135!!
Note: I sold the tablet and am no longer in the bounty. Sorry.

All of those things should be covered with the $100, we'll just say that we have the bounty set to $110 or so. Anyone want to put on top? Lets get in touch with a developer to get this rolling!

we have a semi-working CM11 devicetree/kernel ported from the non-LTE model (LTE data/GPS doesn't work, everything else seems to work)
I'm still trying to understand more about kernel development/porting, just not much time to look at it...

Why do you want Android 5.0 so bad to the point you want to pay money? I'm mean specifically, what in it is such a big deal that you need it NOW?
Why not just go buy a Google Play Edition if you want Lolipop that bad?
There's more to life than obsessing over having the lastest O/S version
Well a bounty is less than a gpe tablet lol. So there's that.

users of this great, underestimated beast of a tablet, that for some reason LG dumped some unoptimized garbage on to it, then "replaced" it with tablets with WORSE hardware, are really missing out on what this tablet can do. What it needs is a build that will run perfectly on it. Furthermore if it works half as good as it should, it would be better than what LG is currently doing with it.
Lets get a dev to get 4.4 working with radios, and we'll go from there. We may have to wait for a dev to pick up this device, with that; I am also willing to allow the dev my device as a start.
I'll add 50 to it
I would just like to see CM11 or CM12.. The tablet would run so much better.
It's starting to look like a significant amount of people are buying this tablet with the recent promotions by Verizon. I really hope that a dev can pick this up and see if they can get us a working ROM. I'm in the process of prepping a server to do some of my own ROM builds for the LG G3. Wish we had a working base because I don't have the knowledge to do anything but compile the builds.
Even a custom kernel would be nice so we could boost the CPU back to the 1.7 that the other models run at.
I'll kick in $20 for this. Would be nice to be cm12 or even GPE rom with working data (or not at this point).
I just got this tablet from verizon about 2 weeks ago, I dont consider myself a dev in any shape or form but I have done enough to know what can break my device and what cant, a while back I successfully ported a rom to a cheap Chinese tablet I owned a while back, I am going to look into porting a (hopefully) lollipop rom to our VK810, gonna take me some time and who knows if I will even be successful, just wanted to let everyone know someone is trying..... I will let you know if I make any progress....
Prepare your bounties guys !
Development is in full swing. We'd see some love for developers in coming weeks !
Hi everyone,
I have juste created a thread asking for the official port of CM on this device (I can't post the link because I'm new....), section device requests.
Be free to comment the post (even a +1) , I am sure you can find the link we google, and we have to prey that they will take a look at it

Won't happen until Alcatel releases the source code and given that the phone was just released to canada as recently as June 30th you can expect to wait a couple of months for that.
Just want I want a bug filled rom that gets rid of one problem and another pops up. I just love when we all use cm and the Bluetooth crashes all the time, disconnects, and overall bearly works. I love when the wifi disconnects and you have to restart the phone just to get it to work.
Sorry I'll stick to the stock rom where everything works perfectly fine.
Wont be any cm roms until we get twrp first. Im shocked more devs dont own this device.

It hasn't even been out 2 months yet. It's an off name most are not familiar with and alcatel's first true shot at an enterprise/flagship level device. It has threads on slickdeals.net advertising it's low price...it will eventually get support by either the source being released or a new exploit being found that can be used to provide temp or perm root...once someone has root they can pull the recovery and boot partitions and development can begin.
It's unrealistic to expect developer's to be jumping all over this phone so soon. I'd never even heard of it till I was looking to buy a zen phone 2 and found so many articles comparing it to the idol 3.

yeah id miss it too but meh lol but theres the dolby atmos app that has been ported from a lenovo ROM that should work with our speakers and also there can be a way to port the colorOS camera app from oppo phones those can take up to 50mp shots because they use sony sensors even on the one plus one has been achieved an yet it has the same sony sensor also hopefully xposed framework could work on us because of the adaway for youtube ^^
Well if someone's working on a CM port I'd be interested in helping to test it.
Thatd be nice id help too for testing purposes im a very heavy user and this phone has been keeping up with me lately
I'll throw my vote in for a cm port. as well as another tester if needed. Dont have tons of experience, but I'll be happy to help where I can.
well im pretty sure theres going to be a bounty thread for it or any other rom ^^
hi guys,
i just ordered this phone and soon within this month hopefuly will land in my hands in india.
my question is cant we use sources of other SD 615 phones like MI4I, YUreka and TCL M3G to develop rom for our device/ or cant we use their roms with our stock kernel ???
as TCL M3G is already having cm 12.1 and MIUI V6 and several other roms on movilesdualsim forum

Can you use the computer chip from a v8 chevy in a v8 ford? The software has to match to the hardware. How is the software going to control the screen when they have different digitizers? Different sound cards. Just as with your pc the drivers have to match the hardware.

One of the CM maintainers, contacted me here on a PM today and requested files from the device. The work on the CM port will be started probably the next week. I will not disclose his ID for now in order to save him from possible questions on PMs. Probably CyanogenMod soon will be available for the Idol ... I just spread the news.
Cool, looking forward to it!

Thanks for the update! It's been quiet for a little bit regarding a CM port. Good to see it's still WIP.
While I look forward to having trees to build with, I find it kinda funny that they asked for files when a couple of them have the device already. Unless the files are from a different version?

Hi everyone,
I currently found an AOSP 6.0 Marshmallow port for the OnePlus One. I'm a slight new to this but im ready and willing to learn how to do all of this from source. The OnePlus One has the same chipset, cpu, and gpu so it shouldnt be impossible to get this up and running. Anyone interested in contributing to the cause pm me or post on this thread .

Well its all plain experience and trying and trying over and over till it works. Its quite a lot of work its possible just to wait for everything to happen from the cm team but thats really gonna take a while and im sure with enough knowledge and enough hard workers its possible to pull it off. Especially since a device with near the same hardware has marshmallow ported

Well he was probably trying to kang port it. You need to build it from the source. Port the kernel from source and the same with the source for the rom itself. Its not easy but it can be done. I may give it a go myself even if no one can help or wants to.
Am I in the right area? I havent found any other section on XDA for it. I just bought this phone and I like it a lot! If someone could guide me in the right direction it would be great!
I'm in the same boat, there's a little chatter at Android Central, but nothing else for this device. I'm just hoping for root and custom recovery.
Also literally in the exact same boat, I'd love to run AOSP or CM on this thing. I don't even see any posts for the normal Stylo 2
Yeah, there's not much chatter at all. On the other hand, kingroot just went over 400 requests, I don't know at what number of requests that they decide to work on an exploit.
I've heard people breaking their phone using kingroot and so on so I will just wait until someone who for sure is rooted there LG Stylo 2 plus and then I will move forward from there. Although it would be nice if XDA would make a little section for us to hang out in. I hope someone on here will hear us out.
I hear ya..been searching for a root, but no luck so far. Im livid over lg opting out of adoptable storage..i wouldn't of bought this phone had i known before hand..oh well with root all things will become possible
Same guys I bought the LG Stylo 2 Plus on MetroPCS and I just want a root that will work I used KingRoot and I was a simi root I restarted 2 times and the root was removed just hope someone will work on a root and a port of CyanogenMod 13
Maybe we can some how reach out to XDA staff to create a section dedicated to us LG Style 2 Plus users. If someone could help me do this that would be great!
Your biggest issue is that metro pcs is such a small a regional carrier most developers don't get the device which means no development for it. Also you need to have full kernel source for the device and device trees. Which seldom happen for budget devices.
As for adoptable storage, most oem are disabling it or removing it completely.

That depends on how much development it gets. Your best bet is to make things happen and then come back with things like bootloader unlocks, root, roms and development for the device. Also make sure the kernel source for the device is available.

Where do you get that MetroPCS is a small regional carrier? They have over a hundred and fifty million subscribers according to their parent company T-Mobile who has less than 70 million subscribers. That makes MetroPCS better than twice the size of T-Mobile one of the big four carriers in the United States. They have a subset of the exact same phones that T-Mobile carries as well. Everything from the little small Samsung Galaxy knockoff phones to the Galaxy S 7 is available with Metro PCS. The only difference is that your bill is half as much and you have to pay for your phone up front. Essentially you are not financing all of the other phones of all of the other users on the network which is why their service is so much less expensive.
We had one dev for a brief period of time for the OG Stylo and he left.

I don't see much development support for the Tab 8 Plus. Great to see TWRP and root.
Do you think there will be an XDA community for this device?

There seems to be a problem in terms of availability for the tablet worldwide, which is why very few reports have come through.
I have specifically bought this Tab 4 Plus with WiFi and 64GB storage as a Nexus 7 replacement and I am super happy with the decision. Custom recovery and root works as described. Give it a couple of weeks and I assume there will be a dedicated forum for the Tab 4 Plus here on XDA. And as soon as Lenovo publishes the kernel sources for the device, there will be many custom ROMs to choose from.
Right now, the Android on the device is pretty vanilla and serves its purpose very well.
Giving this thread a bump. Dev support for this device still seems pretty quiet. Been eyeing the 4/64 GB on eBay for $330. It ships from Korea.

Do you know if it passes SafetyNet with Magisk 14.3 and Magisk Hide or if it will require a custom kernel to hide the bootloader status?
Hey, I got myself a Tab 4 8 Plus from South Korea recently - the 4 GB RAM / 64 GB storage version. I've used CyanogenMod and LineageOS for ages on my Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 2013, and I'm a little sad the Tab isn't supported yet. If anyone involved in development is interested, I'd be happy to help however I can with my device. I'm not familiar with Android development, however - I'd totally try and port LineageOS to this if I could.
there's a guy in the root thread that was saying he was starting a debloated ROM. lets see if he delivers. this sure is the best android tablet in the market!
Hi guys, I just got this tablet from singapore seller, but it come with chinese rom,
I'm not familiar with lenovo (use to be xiaomi fans).
Is there any tutorial available to change it to global rom? and is there any forum to discuss bugs on each rom version like on the xiaomi miui forum?
I can't find any donwloadable link in the lenovo web support.
Thanks
I did get a Lenovo Tab 4 8 Plus to replace my aging Nexus 7 2013. Unfortunately, that was two months ago now and I'm still using my Nexus as this Tab 4 keeps cooking uSD cards. Apparently it's a known problem, some say hardware, some say software, some claim it was fixed with the December 2017 update, some say it's still there. Either way, I want to root this potentially sweet tablet and drop on Lineage or something custom before I give up on it, but for that I want a decent custom ROM.

Since the source code was published by Lenovo there is now a good chance to get something custom if there will be a developer to help us out building a rom.
I did read a lot of complaints about a lack of source code from lenovo, but it was released in November from what I can see. That's six months ago, so I wouldn't hold my breath for anything useful soon.
This nifty little tablet is really awesome. The almost stock android experience is nice... But the additional customisations of a custom ROM would be helpful. Right now lenovos system UI is quite picky about being modded and would FC when I try to tweak the nav bar.
