Hi S5 community,
my audio jack or the audio chip seems broken. When I plug a headset or earplugs, I only get 1 audio channel. Neither the 2nd audio channel nor the mic channel do work.
Did anyone ever have a similar issue?
I am pretty sure it is not software connected, as I experience this in lineage-14.1-20170913-nightly-klte-signed and also in stock rom (G900FXXS1CQD4_G900FDBT1CQA1_DBT) and a factory reset as well as cache partition wipe after flashing.
Or, are the sound drivers located on a partition that is not being flashed with stock ROM?
The earplugs/headset do work with other devices.
I am thinking about just replacing the jack part itself, but I am unsure if it might not be connected to the sound chip itself?
Any ideas on how to test this?
Thank so far

There's a number of things that could be happening from a dirty socket to a bad one and, if your not sure what your doing, you could cause more harm than good.
You could replace it between $5-$15 +/- depending on purchasing new or used as well as if it's an OEM or aftermarket. You'll have to do the work in getting one and their easy to find too and, fortunately, the Headphone Jack is a separate small item.
The following link is to show you what it looks like. I provided it as an example but, it's up to you if you want to purchase it there.
https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Parts/Galaxy-S5-Headphone-Jack/IF236-012-2
The following is how to perform a Teardown of the device. There's no guide for only the Headphone Jack but, you can use it till you get to the removal of the Headphone Jack and then assemble it in a reverse order. It's got excellent pictures for each step too.
https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung+Galaxy+S5+Teardown/24016
The above Teardown is for the G900F and a handful of others.
I wish you the best of luck!

Buy a pair of Samsung Level Active wireless earbuds from eBay and forget the problem.
It will cost you $15-20 and you won't need to remove LCD for repair - not an easy part of the job.
Changing the jack did not fix the issue, unfortunately. Seems the board or chip may be damaged.

I agree that It seems as though it's a bit more than the jack itself but, I'm inclined to recommend trying some other avenues before blaming it solely on the Audio ICC.
I did a little searching around and i had found the following links that has some ideas that you can try.

hi,
this is my first thread here, sorry for my bad english - but i'll try my best.
i want to connect my xda2 with the 22 pin-connector for mp3 in my car.
in your conectors-page is a note:
Audio needs to be capacitively coupled in, any DC bias seems to inhibit audio
i want to ask, what c is needed here? (how many farrad, what kind of C)?
please can you give me some tipps?
is there anyone who has built such a connection? is this a good way to connect the xda2 through the car-radio, or is it better to connect via audio-jack?
my opinion: i found it very uncomfortable to connect first the audio-connector (specially in the dark), and i would be very happy if it works through the 22-pin connector.
please please...gimme a tipp.
or did anyone connect the xda2 and car-stereo without couple-c?
c'mon please, a little answer and i'll be happy.
anyone must have finished a 22pol-connector by himself, or am i wrong?
ty
frustrated...(bad first experience)...
you may be asking too much of a technical question for the cuurent people who watch this board.. i get the impression that the xda-developers site started out with a lot of smart people reverse engineering and dismantling the devices, but its now become more of a software tech support site than a hardcore HTC guru site..
Hi there sorry to hear you have had a bad experience.
as stated xda-dev no longer is as good as it used to be.
i had a quick look at the diagram and from what i can see you should not need capacitors at all.
from what i can see if you connect up pins 3 and 4 to the necessary inputs on your stereo the sound is fine.
a problem i can see however is that to get output on these pins you need to attach pin 19 to ground with a 10k resistor...but this will also redirect the microphone so you wont be able to use it as a phone whilst you have it plugged in unless you also build in a microphone (mind you this should be pretty easy if you wish to do it).
hope that helps
Tim
Hello all,
My Qtek 2020 (Himalaya PH10B) fell on the floor with the headphones on, and the mini-jack for connector for the headphones broke inside it.
I successfully opened it, and I was able to see the damages. I can see only 6 pins that connected the mini-jack plug to the main board, and it seems that there could be a seventh that got broken...
Would anyone of you know of a closeup picture of this headset plug/connector ? Do you know if it is possible to find a new one ? If not, mine looks reparable still, but I would feel reassured if I knew the exact connection here
Thank you in advance for your help.
Cheers
Thomas

Thank you for your answer Rudegar,
I re-soldered the connector, and I realized that a pin was indeed missing. I actually found it freely moving inside the PDA, but I could not solder it back to the connector. The results ? Well, it still does not work, unfortunately... With the headset on, it is mainly okay (there is still a little contact problem) but *withou* the headset, it still has no sound...
So :
1) Can I find this connector somewhere ?
2) Is there a way to tell the PDA not to check for the headset, and use the main speaker all the time ?
3) Would it change anything if I bought a blutooth headset ?
Thank you in advance !
Cheers
Thomas
1.) i doubt it would be a cheap option if htc had a special connector made just for their phones so i'd asume they use some sort of std component
and maybe there even is a partNr og serial on the connector
which could be used to find a replacement in R&S catalog
http://www.rs-components.com/index.html
2.) no pretty sure the switch between headset and internal speaker is don in hardware and software cant control it
3.) no with bluetooth headset you just dont use the audio connector which mean it would be empty and you'd have no sound on the pda
but it would prob solve poor contact issue of your current headset
Thank you Rudegar !
I am going to re-open it and check if I can find any serial # on the component. It looks like it is my best option. Obviously, if I find something, I will post it on that forum, so that other people can know...
Thanks again !
Cheers
Thomas
This is my first post. I haven't seen the topic anywhere and was looking to people that have experience with this. Any advice is appreciated!
I have an older Yamaha receiver that I use for my surround sound. It doesn't have hdmi, bluetooth, etc built in. It only has the red, white, yellow in the back. I have an auxiliary cord that I use, but I'm looking for something wireless. I use the ATT SGS4 as well.
I have tried the AirPort Express, but can't get the audio to stream. I've been in contact with the AirTunes dev, but still can't seem to get it consistently working. I'm looking for something similar to the AirPort Express, but for Android.
I know a bluetooth adapter is an option, but I'm unfamiliar with the quality and range that I would get.
Essentially I want a device that I can stream music too using the red and white ports in the back. Maybe a Roku?

OK, I don't think you'll get a lot of responses here. This section is kind of open Q&A, but it seems really focused on Galaxy S4 (i337+) and not so much the far end peripherals, although they do get mentioned now and then (mostly car BT it seems to me).
However, I do use a couple of ROKUs, the older one is great to stream music from computer, phone and internet. Bluetooth works for me in a one-to-two room distance and that depends as well. If I were you I would go to a Best Buy, or audio store with these questions and also perhaps post in the general section of XDA and maybe find the ROKU site as well. Google searches also will help get you some useful, broad-ranging answers.
Meantime, you're here, and if you haven't already done so, you can scan these development threads, which can offer you tips on maximizing what you can do with your S4. Sorry to be redundant if you already have done that already. . . .
Good Luck!

I want to compliment you on your answer. You politely described to this user how to get the best response for the question. There are some in this forum who act as though Noobie questions are a burden, but you politely gave great advice, and truly helped. Good job!

It all depends on where you're trying to stream your music from. You mention (for relevance I think) that you use a Galaxy S4. Are you trying to stream from the S4, from a computer, from what? There are HUNDREDS of methods of solving this.
Some involve Roku as you mentioned, you could also use a 'Y' adapter that goes from the Red/White RCA cables from the back of your stereo to a FEMALE 3.5 MM auxiliary jack, then you can plug in these cheap devices sold that plug into 3.5mm aux like a headphone, but the device allows you to tune into a radio station on AM and stream that way.
You can buy some RCA adaptive bluetooth boosters which would allow streaming of music.
It all depends on how you're trying to go about this.
Hi Forum,
yesterday i started playing around with my new head unit. I got a great help from typos1, i want to thank him again for all he has done! First, i updated my MCU to 2.91. This worked withaout any problems. After that i flashed the custom rom from Malaysk. In my opinion he did a great work BUT for me, everything was a bit slower, everything looked not that harmonic. I decided to install Booroondook's custom rom. What should i say: works like a charm! Absolutely brilliant! Looks amazing and works quite fast!
The Details about my Unit:
Naviskauto C0255 - MTCC KLD6 v2.91/ - RK8133
There are a few questions now and i hope you can help me...
1. 3G Stick
At the moment, the HU gets internet from my smartphone peria z5 compact. I tried to connect a Huawei surfstick in one of the two cables "3G/USB", nothing happens. I tried to connect a 1and1 MT10 surfstick, same same... I've read from other users that they successful connect 1nad1 surfsticks out of the box. Do i have to start the stick somewhere?
I ordered this one now, specially designed for my unit:
https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B0192YOBLI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I hope this one will work. If not, my idea is to set up a Accesspoint in my car and let the unit connect to this AP. I also ordered this one:
https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00634PLTW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I don't want to use my smartphone as access point for different reasons. Do you have any idea?
2. Microphone
The unit has a build in microphone ANS a 2,5 jack for external Mic. The build in microphone is absolutely bull****, i am not able to have phone calls, no one understands me. If i connect the external mic, nothing happens. I've read a lot of stuff about the mic problems and if i got it correctly, there is no chance to stop the internal mic... and as long as it isn't stopped, the external will not work. Some wrote that they work BOTH TOGETHER but this is wrong! One solution is, as far as i understood what i read, to open the unit and cut off the red wire from the internal mic. When cutted of, the external should work. Can someone confirm this? If yes, is there no chance to say android to stop the internal mic?
I ordered this one:
https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00XL1VLJY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Its a stereo mic, i hope this will work one day at the jack port of the unit because originally there was a mono mic included in the package.
3. Buttons and illumination
My buttons do not glow in the dark! I can go to settings and choose a button color but when i push on a color, the buttons on the left only work for 2 seconds. Even if i press on "save" after choosing, the buttons do not glow. Does anyone has an idea? The buttons should always glow! Did i miss to connect a cable?
I hope anyone can help me with those 3 questions... Would be great. Sorry, i am an absolutely beginner and im so glad to have this forum. Even sorry if anything is already answered and i did not found it...
Thanks a lot!
Greetings, Mirko
PS: I want to say a special thanks to Booroondook. It's amazing how people sacrifice time for others!
Theres a solution for the poor mic in the MTCB hardware mod section.
In the wiki (in my signature) theres a guide for 3G dongles.
Go into settings/factory settings (password 126) and tick the box to turn on the LEDs.
OK, i don't have the USB Stick with me but i will try tomorrow.
I cant' find a thread concerning the microphone hardware mod, the search function does not work here. Do you have a link?
The LED's work now
Thanks

Hi this is my first post here after it being recommended from another forum
I’ve recently purchased a android unit for a 2012 Range Rover evoque and the USB port is not working. It’s the only one and there is power, it’s able to charge devices but I cannot use a memory stick or my CarPlay adapter
I’ve attached some photos of the system information from factory settings and a photo of usb device test
If anybody has any ideas on how I can fix this is would be hugely appreciated!
If you need anymore information about the unit just ask
Anybody have any ideas at all?

Seems to be a hardware issue. You should get in contact with the seller to get this fixed.
I’ve tried contacting the seller and unfortunately they are not interested/don’t want to help
Then open a dispute and send the unit back.

The last option is to connect a small USB hub but I would be sending it back because who knows down the track what other issues may arise.
I put a small hub in the middle of my center console so that all the USB's can be inserted at anytime.
Sending it back/disputes/refunds etc are not a option. I’m stuck with the unit and I’d really like to find a way to fix it

So how to find a way to fix it if the data connection is broken in a forum?
This is no software issue. It´s a real hardware issue.
Sending this crap back is the only option, if you don´t want pay for a repair at a local specialist.
@sandpita
Sorry, but a USB hub does not make any sense if the USB does not work at all, just spending 5V, but no data. Didn´t you read his posting good enough?
I know from past experience with Linux/android boxes/libreelec/coreelec that 9 times out of ten a USB port that has 5v but no data is normally a software, firmware or kernel issue. I was told this and another forum would be the best place to get advice for these types of devices. Of course if sending it back was a option I wouldn’t even be here

My apologies, I didn't read it correctly and relax it was a simple error on my side.
Hey , i think i have a very similar version of this unit .
Mine is a new version for a 2012 RRS
I also had this issue ! , i resolved it by looking at the cable that goes into rear of the unit and one of the pins came unclipped. it happened after removing it so many times. Pushing it in fixed the issue.
Also, If this dont fix it. Enable developer mode . Looks for USB settings in there, theres an option in there that can change it from USB charging mode to data
Issues so far with mine
OEM interface didnt work - Update from seller
Overheating - Update from seller
Mic not working - Added a USB microphone
GPS signal weak - New GPS antenna
I am onto the last problem which is stopping me putting it in the car.
When ever i use Bluetooth Phone, I get a relay clicking sound from inside the unit . I then cant hear anything from the person on the other side. When i end the call it then clicks again and the stereo starts playing.
I also get the same clicking sound from Google Voice
Could you show me a pic of your phone app on your unit ? also.. Do you get what i mentioned above ?
Hi thanks for the reply ! I have very similar issues to yours!
- original car menus show a black screen with the digital version of the physical buttons it replaced Down the sides
-Reverse camera is also a black screen
-Usb not working as mentioned- I’ll try your cable fix though I’ve already enabled developer settings
-I haven’t had any overheating issues but I haven’t been on any journeys longer than a hour or so yet
Microphone is working ok and the Bluetooth audio and phone all work ok
I will add some photos tomorrow when I’m back with the car
My seller is useless and won’t help at all they simply ignore me, what update did they send you? My vehicle is a 2012 evoque dynamic lux
