What is the difference between the 2?
Does it affect the sound through headphone jack?
How can I tell which one I have (no B&O branding on mine)?
If you have no b&o branding on the buds then they are just regular buds. The B&O buds was a special promo when the phone first launched you could get through mail. Thst promo ended long ago. The B&O buds sounded great but a pair of klipsch or shure buds sounds just as good. Plus the B&O buds couldn't trip high impedance mode. I hope this helps

Thanks for the answer, but my question concerned the tuning of the internal ESS DAC.
Does between a B&O or not B&O branded LG V20 there is any difference on the tuning of the internal DAC?
If yes how can I tell which tuning I do have?

Hardware was the same. Also tuning of the Chip. The B&O helped with sound recorder app.
Thanks for the answer.
So the music playback through the headphone jack is strictly the same?
The difference lies just in the recorder app and the bundled IEM?

Can anyone chime in on the quality of the audio Jack?
I would like to not order the Asian version if the US Version can compete with atleast the V20.
I loved my V20....
Please tell me it's pretty good?
I had the V10 with a boot loop. I never tried it with my DT 1770 Pro's, but the G6 can push them to a decent volume with nice clarity. Ti had to boost the sub-bass frequencies by about 1-2dbs to give a bit more warmth compared to my setup with the Fiio X5 & E12 setup. Keep in mind though that the G6 does have a 32bit / 192kbps chip inside the US version, and for most people it is plenty powerful to push their headphones. With that said, the V10 and V20 surely had more power to push headphones, but the G6 still sounds pretty good.
But just an FYI, I always use a dedicated music player instead of a phone for listening to music. But compared to the Fiio X5 (not paired with an amp), the G6 does not have a lot of power to push the 1770's to high volume levels. Keep in mind these cans are rated at 250 ohms and a SPL measurement of 102, making them not the hardest cans to push, but certainly not the easiest still.
Thanks for that in depth reply.
I am no audiophile, but I sure do appreciate a good set of wired headphones.
And didn't know the US G6 had a 32bit. The more you know.

Not a problem!
My mistake, I actually do NOT know if the DAC in the US variant of the G6 has a 32bit dac, but it certainly doesn't sound bad at all. It doesn't change my original statement about the sound quality. Plus, I've heard much worse from other phones.
Edit: I put on a few of my FLAC 24bit/192kbps songs onto an SD Card and it plays just fine. Poweramp also displays the correct metadata (FLAC 24bit/192kbps) when playing the song. Not sure if its actually outputting at those specs, but it sure does sound nice! lol
Just read a review that claims only Korean models of the G6 have HiFi DAC? Is that true? I just bought a G6 from AT&T because of their 50% discount, and I took it for granted that HiFi DAC will be featured. Anyone to confirm?
No quad DAC. U.S. version has wireless charging instead.
Never mind. I found the answer somewhere else. I am returning the phone and f**k you LG.
There's plenty of confirmation all over the internet mate. Never take things for granted.

LMAO @ blaming LG for your stupidity.
Well its his fault for not reading before he purchased the phone, but its LG's fault that the phone didnt have the DAC in the 1st place. I love the phone, i like the phisical design and feel more than the S8 and S8+ however I do hate that LG chose for me that we people in America dont like/need the dac. Its just plain stupid on LG's part. They should have equipped the phone the best they could to fight the S8, not cripple it from the get go. As it is im happy with my G6 and will keep it, but i would be way more happier and satisfied if it had the DAC included.

Yes I too am really pissed at LG for excluding the DAC here. For that reason I won't get rid of my V10. When V10 gets Nougat there is a chance I will sell my G6 instead.
I've been using VLC with my library of flac music files I transferred to a new 128gb Samsung microsxdc card ($30.99 on Amazon ftw!) and the built in 10 band equalizer over Bluetooth in my car. Just to report, the sound quality is just as good as plugging the phone into the aux port via the headphone jack. Very impressed with the sound quality on my Fender Audio System. I just wish LG would have included a nice set of headphones like the S8 plus received. I bought the S8 plus for a relative and she gave me the S8 plus AKG headphones. I was able to install the Comply TX-400 Isolation Plus earphone tips I had been using on a cheap pair of smokin' buds that I use when I mow. The sound from the earphone port using VLC is also excellent. I highly recommend using VLC, I was skeptical at first, but it's free and the equalizer sounds great. I really didn't know how to use it at first, but I played around with the levels till I got it to my liking. I started out with "rock" and went from there.

I'm not sure how this helps lol. Comparing the DAC of a factory car audio system to the DAC in the phone
Guys I need your valuable opinion about the audio dac on this for NORMAL earphones like RHA s500. does it feel lot different as of compared to other phones on normal earphones or do we need High impedance headphone ?
Am in dilemma of purchase decision
Am a music lover
G6 here am referring is Korean/Asian version with ESS hi-fi quad dac
I have the same phone. I dont really hear a huge difference with DAC on normal headphones.
I will be receiving my LG G6 asia version next week. In order to take advantage of the Quad DAC, may I know earphones or head phones I should get ??
I had similar problem. I've started \ found those threads. Maybe it will help you.

Just forget all that DAC nonsense. Its still not clear if the High Impedance mode just makes the phone louder or triggers all DAC Channels. And its not sure how the DAC works. But one thing, i dislike the Quad DAC, it doesn't sound atmospheric and nice to me. Its very analytic and boring for normal people. If you plug in Earphones with "normal" bass, you will be dissapointed completely, the DAC cancels out every bit of Deep bass. I bought a USB DAC (Zorloo Zuperdac) and i prefer it a thousand times to the Quad DAC. And its also louder.

Ordered my LG V20 H990DS and it arrived without the B&O branding on the back (and also without the B&O earphones). There has been a similar thread to this already, but with no clear answers. What exactly is the difference between the "LG V20 H990DS B&O version" and the "H990DS non-B&O version"? Does the non-B&O version come without a DAC tuned by B&O (and instead tuned by LG)? Also, what's the deal with the "stock music app" that everyone's talking about? Do I have it on my non-B&O branded H990DS? Please let me know if you have the answer!! Thanks
B&O Branding just means that it came with B&O earphones (pretty bad, btw). It doesn't change the phone's DAC. You should have stock music player installed by default, as this is an international version.
Stock player is usally missing in carrier version of the phone. (att/verizon).
So, if you have a music player, you shouldn't really worry about not getting the right usage of your DAC.
Last of all, PULSAR+ allows HI-FI audio. So you don't need to stick to stock player if you don't like it at all.
Poweramp and Neutron are two other players that work well with the V20.
How do know which are players work with DAC? Can anyone try use foobar2000 app from PlayStore and say if works with DAC? Thanks.
Not all the players are created equal that is for sure.
Quite a few down sample the file before it hits your ears. I'm not totally up on all of this but there are ways to verify the output of the dac. If I recall correctly you can use a PC hooked up to the V20 to confirm the audio output. I have no idea what the program name is, I'm sure some of the audiophiles will chime in. FLAC audio gives you the best audio, not sure about the right bit rate.
Both Poweramp and Neutron have been confirmed to output hi rez files without down sampling, I know that there are others.
Key points to remember:
Garbage in equals garbage out. A low bit rate mp3 will always sound poor no matter what it is played on.
Headphones - again a cheap set of dollar store earbuds is not going to cut it. The best set you can afford (or justify) will give best results for the most part. There are exceptions to the rule. Check out some of the headphone forums for the latest units/ best bang for the buck. Also this is a very subjective topic, what sounds great to you might sound like a cat in a blender to me.
This is mostly a general reply with details that might be helpful to anyone who is interested.

I can say that I ran a kind of poll and it turns out the non-B&O version is much less prone to screen retention.I own the B&O one and the retention is a pain-in-the-a$$
