Static or buzzing feeling on metal edges when charging - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi, first post here.
Ever since purchase, my Samsung S8+ will have a slight static feel at the metal sides when I'm charging it (cable or wireless). I googled and found that there's no thread regarding this issue, so I'm wondering if my phone's the only one doing this? The feeling is like a slight vibration when my finger/palm touches the metal bezels/edges.
I really want to enjoy my phone without a case but the static feel bothers me every time I want to use my phone when it's charging, so I have no choice but to put it in a case.
If there's anyone with the same issue please let me know.
Cheers

Increasing the vibration?!

I don't know about everybody else, but the vibration on my x1a completely SUCKS!! And that is definitely not good, being that it also has a very low ringer volume. Because of this I'm missing calls and texts in environments with mild noise. Throughout the day, I carry my x1 in a leather case that attaches to my belt. When I walk (and even when I'm sitting still) I can't even feel the vibration. The case was designed for my Blackjack II, so I understand that being since the x1 is smaller and doesn't fill the entire case, I wont feel the vibration as much. But this is just downright ridiculous! Even if I put the x1 on my thigh while i'm sitting, I still barely feel it!
So I want to know if there is any way to increase the vibration strength or something? Are their any apps or registry edits I can make? Please help me...I REALLY love this phone but I'm considering returning it just because of the low ringer/weak vibration. What's the sense in having a phone if you don't even know when you're receiving calls/texts?
Same problem, vibration too weak
I have same problem since i carry the phone in a leather pouch on my belt. I can't feel anything vibration having to do with texts. Anyone know how to fix this problem ?

glad to see that I'm not the only one having this problem. I thought that buying a case made specifically for the x1 would make a tighter fit so that I would be able to fell the vibration
I find the speaker pretty loud when it isn't covered
but just wondering at the asian places there are cellphone charms that
light up when you get an incoming text/call
im just wondering if there are charms that vibrate when that occurs it would be so useful lol

no, this is the worst vibration mechanism ever...can't feel much. Looks lik I have to return it, touch pro has same features and is better i would say in the end so far

[Q] NC creaking and slight hiss when headphones plugged - exchange or no?

Just want to get some opinions on this.
I used my Nook for extensive reading for the first time today (~2-3 hrs) + listening to music w/ headphones and the creaky noises I noticed all along the right side and top were driving me crazy. Pretty loud creaks and occasionally a soft pop. I don't notice it when I use it with CM7 SD because I'm usually holding it landscape. The hissing noise that some people have reported with plugged in headphones, I didn't notice until today because I hadn't used headphones till now. I tried both my bose in-ear plugs and sony over-ear 'phones, and it was pretty apparent even at lower volumes.
Should I try my luck and exchange it for a new one? Or are they all pretty much like this? I would probably not consider it except for the fact that aside from the creaking the right side feels rather springy when you touch it (the left is solid, no noise) (I'm not squeezing, just pressing down slightly on top). Also, if I look in the seam edge I can see a spot where the white light is coming through.
Am I being overly picky? The creaking is really driving me nuts when I'm reading for a while.. Read for 30 sec, turn page, *creak creakity creak*, repeat.
(If I decide to exchange, should I de-register the device before going to Best Buy, or can I do it there?) I never rooted the EMMC so that's not a concern.
*** EDIT: So I bit the bullet and exchanged it at my local Best Buy. The new one has absolutely no creaking at all, and all four sides of the bevel feel solid (no springy feeling). The rep who helped me opened the new one for me so we could see if it had the same issue, and he immediately noticed the difference. I normally don't return things unless something is broken, but I was concerned that the bevel would eventually become unhinged because the creaking and springiness (press down on top, it would flex and give a mini BOING! feeling into your finger when you let up the pressure) were getting stronger. Screen looks just as stellar as the first, so I'm glad I exchanged it

[Q] Odd "Vibration" When Charging

Something odd I noticed a week or so ago. When my tab is charging, if I run my finger lightly along any part of the metal case, there's a REALLY faint "vibration" or "tingle", reminiscent of the feeling you get when you put one of those 9V square batteries on your tongue.
If I disconnect the charger then it stops, so I figured there must be some kind of short in the tablet somewhere.
But I finally found my multimeter this morning and tested it. There is absolutely no current in the casing at all. 0.000 volts. 0.0000 amps. Nada. Zip.
So what the hell IS it? I don't think it's the internal vibrator as I can't hear anything. Is anyone else getting this? It's strongest around the middle of the device, around where the Acer logo is on the back, but can only be felt on the metal parts, not the glass...
It might be an electro magnetic induction current, and the plastic is insulating the metal from earth - you are then providing the earth to make the circuit.
Where did you measure from and to with the multimeter? Try case to earth on another power socket, or case to earth with your tongue (wet, very conductive) (wet fingers if you's scared.. LOL).
I tried all the ways I can think of, including those, but there's nothing I can pick up with my meter. Alas, my scope is broke.
My wife can't feel it at all, but my kids can so I'm positive I'm not imagining it. It's not there when unplugged from the charger, there when plugged in.
BTW, generally, water is a very poor conductor of electricity, especially through the tongue as saliva has a pH of 7.5, which will insulate rather than conduct. You need water with a pH of <5 or >9 for decent conductivity.
Don't worry, I can feel the same vibration with my HTC Desire (which has a metal case, too), funny enough not with my A500, though. Not everyone can feel it, which either means not every device has that effect or not everybody can feel it.
True, but it's still better than dry skin, especially finger print tipped fingers.

Nope. With wet fingers (saliva or tap water) I can't feel the vibration at all, with dry I can. This tells me it MUST be electrical, but I'm damned if I can get it to register on my meter.
BTW, though I've not done much in the last 20 years, I originally trained as a microelectronics engineer, so I do know what I'm doing. I've never seen this in a device that DIDN'T register some kind of current flowing through it...
I've always been pretty sensitive to tiny electrical currents, so it probably IS some kind of short that my fingers are picking up, but can't get through the anodised coating on the metal back for my meter to read it. I AM getting a tiny reading of 0.003722 volts on the bare metal in the dock port, but my fingers sure shouldn't be able to pick THAT up!
Still, with no readable value on a meter, there's no way I'll be able to return it as the store just won't believe me, so I guess I'll live with it and just check it periodically.
I have exact the same thing, when the A500 is charging and I'm touching the case, it is vibrating a little.
I got my A500 since friday. I registered same vibration during the first charging. I donĀ“t know what to do with it....
E.
Yeah I noticed this too. The list of quirks with this tablet just seems to grow by the day
i have the same issue before, i changed the power adapter from Acer and the problem solve. Their report log show 'electrical leaking'
I truly don't doubt what you say.
I honestly would've though that wet skin would be better than dry or skin-oil skin. Weird.
See if you can get a infinite resistance reading between the metal shell part and the dock port (like you should). I also suggest a separate test of the charger unit for leakages.
Maybe also test the charger port and the dock port for max resistance, charger port and skin as well.
OK, it's probably not dangerous (well, maybe not now..), but it IS bloody interesting!!

I really doubt it's dangerous, but it does indeed sound like there's leakage current on OPs tab. I've had similar experiences with e.g. some PC cases and there the problem was easily solved by making sure the case is well-grounded. Also had a washing machine that did the same, but as there's water involved I had to check it out properly and it was indeed a defect unit and had to be thrown out.
I get the same, both on the case, and when i run my finger over the glass, makes it tingle slightly, unplug the charger and wherever i touch its gone. perhaps from the screen getting the full V/amps from the charger?
I'm glad not to be the only one experiencing this so called "electrical leaking".
But it seems I am the only one who actually enjoys this feeling on my fingertip. Don't you?

If you try another part of your anatomy on the screen, DON'T post the video!!
LOL!!
;->
I get the same vibration but on the bottom edge of my a500 .....strange.....

lol
My advice would be to *not* lick / taste your a500 while it is charging
me too
The cases is hot with respecs to earth. The adapter needs replaced.
Mine dont do that.

I noticed this too when I first got my A500. I don't notice it anymore because I always have it in the Folio Case.

Pet Peeves

I love the Z1. So much. BUT:
- It's slippery as hell. I live in a humid climate and I nearly dropped it at least 10 times taking it out of my pocket when its a little wet.
- Speaker - Not a big issue as most of us use headphones anyway, but still annoying when showing videos to someone in public and all you hear is this mangled mess of tinny audio.
- Camera presets - Sony, for the love of god, please allow me to jump into my camera SAVE MY SETTINGS in a preset for those point and shoot moments!
Aside from that, this phone kicks a**. And yes, I have no problems with the 'viewing angles' - I am not a crustacean and my eyes are generally level with the screen during use.
What do you guys think? After some time with the device, what kinda tweaks could be made to improve it?
I'd prefer the back to be aluminium since I also think it's too slippery.
I use a lanyard wrist strap from an old sony camera instead of a case and I think it's great, it can't fall and it still looks sexy.
the only problem i have is how fragile it is. i'm on my 3rd one since release. one fell out of my pocket and broke (i was sitting down) and one pressed against my keys in my pocket and the screen shattered.

This would be very useful. 3rd party apps could provide this kind of functionality. But the problem is sony does not permit access to camera functions to these 3rd party apps. LG isn't any better, the nexus 5 & G2 are in the same boat too.
This means we're dependent on the stock app for complete functionality.
When will they allow saving presets in the stock app ? anybody's guess

I'm in the exact opposite situation weather wise, cold and dry. Really ****ing slippery unless you go around with sticky hands which wouldn't be too professional in my line of work.
I'd love to find some kind of grippy rubbery tape I could apply in stripes on the phone, preferably on the sides. Haven't found anything despite extensive searches.
Anyone else have a tip where such a thing could be found?
For me it is the Flashlight which is placed in the worst place. Everytime i do a picture with the flash i see in every shot the light coming from the bottom side and so 1/4 of the picture is "white"....

Thanks but I really don't want to add any bulk to the phone so I'd rather not have a case on it. Hence the grippy stripes idea.

https://www.west49.com/products/skate/grip-tape.html
Most malls in Canada and the USA have a West-49, a skater type shop.
If all else fails, most Canadian Tire, WalMart and other similar "we have everything you'd ever need" type stores sell tape with sandpaper type texture on one side. Just don't cheap out. Buy the vehicle quality 3M brand, as that's waterproof and moisture proof, and won't peel off from being taken in and out of a pocket frequently.

A gel case isn't bulk, that's the most minimal case you'll ever get for the Z1. Can hardly tell its even there if you colour match.
Grip tape will be a dust& lint magnet. yeah great for grip but how comfortable after a bit.

I have that problem too sometimes but it usually goes away if I wipe down the camera lens glass. Not sure why it fixes it, but it does.
ASF - it just gets in the way cause its scratched so easily
just use glass with oleophobic coating like every other phone manufacturer does - if you want additional protection buy a screen protector (which are much harder to scratch then the ones Sony uses on their phones..)
phone is a massive fingerprint magnet due to bad quality ASF..

What case are you using ?
I'm adding a new peeve - my wifi after switching to 4.3 is horrendous. Need like a super hi performance router to keep any connection and even in my car it takes ages to connect to bluetooth. Def some connectivity issues going on here after the update...
Also, I have night shots that are noisy AS HELL.
Any suggestions?
New one, loose USB port flap. No more waterproof for me

factory reset for the wifi. i had to do that to fix some other issues after updating (static during calls, proximity sensor not working)
I always do a factory reset after updates. It ends up saving you time...
Sendt fra XPERIA Z SGP312
Pet peeves..well I'll start off by saying I am in fact very happy with the handset, it's a beautiful device and performs beyond anything I'd ever expected.
But those peeves...
1: Magnetic charging is a novelty and in reality the magnets aren't powerful enough to use in the car as the cable just falls off.
2: A Navbar the size of a small country, Sony created a wonderful screen then filled a good deal of it with Navbar. I shouldn't have to root and use Xposed to reduce it.
3: No white balance settings...I mean come on, the older Z had it!
4: White phone... But black screen bezel totally ruins the looks of it, I picked the black one for that reason.
5: Rooting 4.3 (for now, I know this will change in the future) is a pain.
And finally.
The camera flash has more noise in it than a rock concert, with a case on it just ends up whitewashing the pictures.
But I'd still have an Xperia over ANY other handset.

Cracking noise from back cover

I am using Mi A1 for about half month and noticed cracking, rattling or clicking noise when I touch ( I wouldn't say press) back cover around fingerprint sensor and camera. Sounds like some adhesive coming lose or something.
Similar as being discussed here:
http://en.miui.com/thread-884436-1-1.html
Is someone else experiencing the same? Im not considering RMA right now since the phone is without issues and good as new (never felt or something, everything working)

Bought a Global version, 64 gb, black a couple of days a go and mine does that as well . It is getting on my nerves now. Going to return it back and have another one.
My phone have same sound/clicking noise too, but the phone is working properly without any issue, from January 15, when I bought it.
Most probably is from the camera lens, I'm not sure, just I'm guessing, so my advice is to ignore that sound and do not shake too hard the phone, use it normally like any other phone.
I can confirm that, noticed this 3 days after i bought this phone.
I must rate the build quality 2 out of 5.
Feel like it has plastic back cover.
I can confirm the same thing on mine
Now i keep pressing mine
Hi guys i noticed that mine does this too
Its annoying noise but no problem with software
Anyone has problem with such issue?
I heard about this issue a long time ago and i don't have it
As far as i know, it's just a black tape/adhesive on the back cover. Don't worry about it
After some time I visited back and see it is a common problem. I no longer use my A1 without a case so it doesn't bother me anymore. Also the phone has been flawless all around
Yeah with a case doesnt bother me too
Now I am a relieved .. and I dont worry for this sound thank you
I bought the Samsung A73 on this 6th September. It has the metal sides with plastic back-body. When playing the nulls brawl game, i just clicking its back side, and it, too, gave some hollow sound. It's like it's hollow inside. Before this mobile, i had Redmi Note 9 Pro with glass body that never gave that hollow-kinda sound. So, I was so disturbed with this sound, thinking there's a fault in this brand new mobile.
Reading all these comments, i'm relaxed that it's normal and not a issue with the mobile. I, then, bought the Spigen hard backcover. And there's no sound now.
For sure this so-called issue is so confusing when you buy a new phone and hear this annoying sound on touching the back of the phone. Who would want to go to the procedure of exchanging the phone just right after buying it? So tiring. I thanked god when I found out it was just normal sound for phones having plastic body.
