Hi,
I'm using atm. Candy Rom with Llama Sweet with the Universal Bootloader from LOS Thread.
Just bought me a USB-C Flash Drive (SDCZ450-064G) and does not recognize it on TWRP or under Candy, already tried the Flash Drive on the PC and formatted it to Ext3 (it was FAT32 before), but it also not works in the Phone.
is this maybe a Kernel or Rom related problem? or do otg only work with stock?
someone has an idea or tips for me? already tried USB-OTG Helper from XDA.

Tried hellsgate or some other kernel? I'm saying Hellsgate since it has EAS, if you are using that feature.

Are your phone's problem get fixed? USB-C Flash Drive, you mean SD card, right? I have experienced same problem, if you put your question clear, I may help you.
nope, the Problem is still there. Its a USB-c Flashdrive not a SDCard (added a Pictue of it) SD works well.
The Problem is, the RED Status LED of the Flashdrive goes on but the Phone does not Show the Drive in the System, so i can not access it, the same Problem is in TWRP (newest Version, 3.1.1).
I think this is something with the A7. already found other Topics in Different Boards with the same Problem without resultion.

Thanks for your reply. Sorry, I still don't get your means. Are you saying your USB flash disk cannot be detected by your phone, is that your meaning?
But, as far as I know, phone cannot detect USB flash disk, only PC can. So, phone can detect SD card. I guess you mean that you put your SD card into your card reader then your phone cannot detect your SD card when you put your SD card into your phone, am I right?

Lol this guy is so lost
USB OTG is a thing. Phones can read normal, PC pendrives with a simple adapter
Hey. In the beginning I had the same problem. The sotution was to change the OTG adapter. The axon wants not every ordinary thing

problem is still there, the phone still not recognize the USB-C Flashdrive / Stick / thumb drive, tried different rom's and kernel ..
(there is no need for a USB-C to USB-A Adapter, the Flash drive / Stick / Thumb Drive is already USB-C)

Yea, but it's easier to understand for someone who doesn't know the basic idea of OTG
I'll try something and let you know
Thanks for your reply. Have you try another different USB-C? I think the problem may caused by USB-C.
Yep tried it on my PC, formated the Flash Drive / Thumb Drive / USB Stick in Different Formats without any Problem.

I suspect the problem is a matter of power. Your USB-C flash stick is expecting higher voltage typical in most USB-c devices. Your phone is giving the stick USB-A levels of power, just enough power to read the stick's ID, but not enough to power flash chip.
It might work via a powered hub or you'll need to find an alternative stick that.has a lower power usage.

Then I ask myself the question, why does it work with an OTG adapter and a USB-C to USB-A (Male) adapter?
If this drive needs more power than normal it should not work in this Situation.

If you're rooted and have the OTG cable, then all you need is Stickmount. (And a file explorer to find the USB memory file)

So when follow these steps, I get the message that it mounts and it shows up in that folder as sda1. However, it never has any contents in that folder. I have tried formatting my thumbdrive (an 8 gb Sandisk cruser) with fat32, exfat and ntfs and nothing has had any different results. I have tried a Kingston 2 gb drive, and a wd 500 gb hdd and have not had any better results. I am on rooted stock.
Any thoughts?
Guys please give me a heads up. I'm hesitant to root. but if I want to mount a USB flash drive I have to be rooted and using Stickmount, yeah?

I bought a cheap cable on eBay and found it only worked with one of my flash drives. Also it can be difficult to find the right folder. Try another flash drive
eBay adapter
The <$2 adapter I bought on eBay was of surprising quality.
This is what I did with somewhat success:
Root with "Google Nexus 7 Toolkit"
Install StickMount
Install Paragon NTFS & HFS+ Beta
With these steps, I was able to hook up many different flash drives (4GB SanDisk, 8GB Corsair, 64GB Patriot) with great success and was able to access the data off of all of them. I tried streaming 720p video off the USB and it worked fine. I played a few N64 games running off the flash drives, and that also worked fine. Pictures, PDFs, no problem.
One major issue though: I can't WRITE any data on the flash drive if it's formatted NTFS.

Exact same here. Rooted N7 with stickmount and a 64gb Patriot stick. Formatted exFAT and NTFS. Sees everything except for any content on the stick. Put it back in the laptop and it's all there.
Cannot comment on other file explorers but using ES File Explorer (free) the contents of the attached USB media shows up in the following location: /sdcard/usbStorage/sda1/
If using multiple USB drives, attached through a powered USB hub connected to the USB-OTG cable, the drives are differentiated as; /sda1, /sdb1, sdc1, etc.
I ran into problems occasionally with Stickmount showing the USB-OTG attached microSD card reader as "mounted", yet using ES File explorer, no files or folders showed up. I found that if I went back into Stickmount and hit the Mount option again the files/folders on the attached device would show up.
Some, in other threads here on USB-OTG, have recomended to unmount the device before removing the attached device. And some have indicated that one should attached the USB drive to the USB-OTG cable before attaching it to the Nexus 7, and to remove it the same way after unmounting the drive.
BE WARNED... USB OTG in Nexus 7 Works Perfectly, only 2 Things to consider:

I tried mounting it again and my files showed up in the second folder (sda1). Thank you!
Now I am having another issue. When I use roms that have usb-otg enabled by default (right now I am using Jellybro by Euroskank, but have had similar experiences on other roms), upon inserting the drive, I get the error "Damaged USB storage. USB storage is damaged. Try reformatting it." I get this error using any of my different usb devices even if I use stickmount and the files show up. Tried a factory reset, no change. When I unplug it, I get a different error: "Removed USB storage. USB storage removed. Insert new media." This error cannot be dismissed except by rebooting the tablet.
I am overjoyed that using the double mount trick works with stickmount. Now I just need to figure out this other error. :-/

Update. Working fine now. The stick needed to be formatted NTFS, which I thought I had already tried, but it was still exFAT. So, USB OTG confirmed working with Patriot 64gb stick.

It seems that a custom kernel is needed.
This is soooooo bad.
My rooted 32GB Nexus 10 will immediately mount a 1.8 inch hard drive I use for both data storage and TWRP backups via a USB OTG connection. I can also mount usb thumb drives without any issue. My problem is that I am unable to mount any microSD or SD/SDHC cards using the exact same mounting components along with card readers that work well on both Mac and Window's systems. The sd cards I have tried are formatted fat32, sized from 4GB to 32GB, and all cards are readable on both Mac and Windows systems. As far as mounting the cards, in addition to the settings system mount, I have tried both StickMount and USB OTG Helper to no avail. With USB OTG Helper, I do get the following message: "Mount started at /storage/UsbOtg Drives" immediately followed by "No drives mounted (Code 9)." I am currently using the latest Rootbox rom but to determine if this problem could be rom specific, I restored a previouly used month old EOS 4.0 rom backup but received the same errors from both roms. In my search for the solution to this problem, I read that the kernel could cause this issue so in addition to the kernel included with the roms, I flashed three other kernels with the same result. I also fixed all Permissions. The last thing I did was download the Nexus Image Viewer app which does not require root. To my surprise the app mounted and could read the sd cards. However, this is not a solution as I want to be able to use sd cards for TWRP backups. One last piece of information is the USB Device Info app shows that the connection with the Image Viewer app is /dev/bus/001/002, but I can not find any folder (only the app) that actually shows the card's contents. When I mount either the hard drive or the thumb drive, the Device Info app always shows the connection is /dev/bus/usb/001/003 and the storage contents are located at /storage/usbdisk. I have no idea if this is significant or not.
Does anyone have any ideas on how or if this problem can be resolved?
I may have included too much info in my original post. I probably should have only asked if other Nexus 10 users are able to mount and read USB OTG SD cards? If so, did you have to do anything special to mount the card and what ROM are you using?
Thanks!

Some multi card readers needs a kernel with SCSI_MULTI_LUN Support. No offence meant, but perhaps you could try to search. At least the kernel from craigngomez [spelling?] will have this config included.
If you are expirience your issue with a single card reader forget about my answer - this should run out of the box. Perhaps you can give stickmount.apk a try.

If you have a rooted device then install USB OTG Helperhttp://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j...f3uXlh6DBItn-qTTMC1QUWg&bvm=bv.49478099,d.aWM.
That app reads many different formats (fat16/32, ext2,3,4, NTFS and even an experimental exFAT). It works great on SD cards including multi-card USB readers. Even NTFS can be used with Read/Write permissions in most cases including with a stock ROM.

Thank you both for your suggestions. They were very much appreciated.
As to the USB OTG Helper, I had already tried the USB OTG Helper as well Stickmount without success.
As to the kernel suggestion, I had seen in earlier searches that kernels can impact USB-OTG functioning (although I didn't understand why) and had already tried three kernels but not the one suggested. After the lead quoted above, I did flash the Gomez AnyKernel but it also did not resolve my issue.
So...based on one of my earlier searches which recommended starting completely clean, including formatting /data/media storage, I took the plunge and formatted all storage and reflashed the Rootbox rom. On my first attempt and all attempts since then, I am now able to read not only usb-otg hard drives and thumb drives, but also all the usb-otg sd cards I had not been able to mount and read prior to this procedure. Since all my external Nexus used storage devices are formatted fat 32, I have not needed any usb helper to get the mount, but simply use the mount in Settings - Storage. As to the Nexus with the cleaned up storage, not only has it resolved the sd card problem but it also seems to be running faster than it was prior to the complete format. Perhaps after months of trying different Roms it was in need of a fresh start!
This looks great... so you just need an OTG adaptor and you can mount hard drives and SD cards so we can expand the device memory and carry large files around or store large files?
could you mount external storage from recovery?

Well that's a good start... so what do you need for OTG storage, just some weird adaptor cable or something? Will only USB pen drives work?
Can you move some apps like Spotify to external storage? The crippled 16GB memory on my Nexus 4 totally sucks for Spotify. Extreme sound is taking up a lot on my Nexus 10 too.
But even if maybe for large external music stores like recorded radio streams at high quality would be nice if say PowerAmp can pull from it?
Nexus Media Importer, available in the play store, lets you read USB devices, including SD card readers, that are attached to a USB OTG cable. I've not had any problem displaying photos or playing music or videos from an SD card on my Nexus 10 using Media Importer. Another alternative is a WiFi drive. Ravpower makes one that has an SD slot and full size USB slot. On your Nexus, the WiFi disk appears as a wireless network. Connect to it as you would any other wireless network and you can browse and play media that's attached to the device, including an SD card.

Thanks for your response.
I did
1. clean uninstall of the drivers
2. restart
3. latest driver install (from kies folder)
4. restart
5. connected the device & waited until the device installed successfully.
6. Upgraded the sync software (musicbee) to 2.2 beta
Now sync works like a charm again.

Try to download from google play something like "mount data storage" application. So you can use your phone as USB flash drive... Try this method... Or - use SD card adapter and put sd card with adapter to PC

I will eventually try the card adaptor method (though it's the year 2013.. not 1995)

Eventually, I found this to be a microSDXC card issue (Sandisk Ultra 64GB).
I can't copy new files to the card, nor delete old files, nor format the card (even low level formatting doesn't work).
Card is under international lifetime warranty. Opened a service request with Sandisk for the moment.
OUYA 1.1.76_R1 USB STORAGE CLOSED BETA FIRMWAREHello OUYAers! Here's the ouya closed beta dump of "usb storage" update
Enjoy it and have a nice day!
Features and notes
The details:
Probably obvious, but just in case: connect your drive using the USB port on the back of the OUYA.
L3 from the main menu safely ejects your drive. There may be bugs if you yank the drive without ejecting first (but if you want to be a maverick and do it anyway, feel free to report issues you see).
Right now we only recognize 1 external drive at a time, so you won’t be able to put a bunch of drives on a hub and see them all.
We support FAT32 and NTFS, but not formats like exFAT.
Games on external storage are currently associated with the OUYA they were downloaded from (so you can’t use the storage to transfer a game from one OUYA to another).
We expect that you’ll be receiving more system updates as we fix reported issues.
We expect USB storage to be fully functional. You can download games to it, move games to it, play games from it… just use it like a user! And please, please report any issues you run into by clicking the link above.

i don't have a thumb drive but i have a 16gb sd card with an sd card usb adapter, will this also work? cause i plugged it into my ouya and when i go to file explorer and check usb storage, the ouya created a "ANDROID" folder and a "DATA" folder inside the sd card but when i try to download a file from the web it says "usb storage is required to download"...does anyone know what is supposed to happen when you insert a thumb drive or any usb storage into the OUYA? does it show a message or any notification? and what files does the OUYA creates inside the storage once is inserted? i need help,thanks...
This ouya update only supports FAT32 and NTFS filesystems. Check if you have one of these.

May have to tinker with some other devices, I have a couple external hard drives and a few USB sticks laying around and have ran across a couple that just won't work. If you are on this beta firmware you will get a notification when you plug is a USB drive, then when you go to download a game from the ouya store it will ask you where you want to save it.
I have a newer seagate 1TB drive plugged into a powered 7 port USB hub with a wireless USB logitech keyboard mouse combo unit (K400r) it works a champ. Several 16 and 32 GB udb sticks worked well. I have an older Iomega external drive, under 500 gigs that does not work.

oh,ok...sweet!!:good: i wasn't sure if the OUYA will throw me a notification when plugging in a USB drive...i also have a 4 port USB hub that works perfect with the OUYA, i have a 160gb laptop hard drive put away that im not using, i'm going to have to get me a USB Hard Drive Enclosure or a hard drive adapter or i might just buy a USB stick and see if it works...Thanks for the info and for clarifying it...
It also seems to work well with installs from the play store (once rooted and play store installed of course). I installed both GTA games from my play store account, and both downloaded the additional data and stored it on my external drive with no problems.
Seems to be working basically as it should have out of the box...
it keeps telling me "an error occurred" when i go to install anything from the ouya store after selecting external but will install to internal just fine and my play store doesn't open at all anymore after trying to install netflix, it immediately kicks me to the homescreen when i try to open it..
i did upgrade to the most recent stockplus before going to this and wiped before putting on stockplus and that loaded everything up fine, i set up my ouya account and then flashed this usb beta update, went through hell getting the play store to work but finally pulled it off haha and after all that.. it no worky..
i have a 1.5tb Western Digital in ntfs.. had an ext4 on there that i took off since i thought this would work haha
new beta update V2...
Has anyone managed to DL the newest beta FW yet? (abominable snowman - updated version of the external storage FW)
hxxp://www.androidpolice.com/2013/11/21/ouya-pushing-out-abominable-snowman-its-largest-update-yet/
I think the update server is overloaded, as mine keeps bugging out at 50%...
#EDIT - okay it did finally download after I uninstalled the OUYA mods / Xposed Framework and then Re-installed them...problem is that it now gets stuck on CWM in "pink" mode...then reboots like no FW update was ever installed...
#EDIT 2 - okay, you have to navigate to select YES to "Uninstall CWM" when in CWM recovery, the NO to the disable recovery flashing prompt...now finally on "Abominable Snowman"
@frickinjerms - you cannot DL to external media properly with the first beta update, I had to DL new games and "move" them from internal to external...hopefully this will be fixed in future updates...
Use the Root my OUYA to get ROOT back...
hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387507
Then use the OUYA exposed mod collection to get the Play store to work...
