Capture+ - can it be ported to anither phone? - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Hey all, had to move to a Note 8 for work requirements (Knox) and I'm missing my v20.
More specifically, I'd really like to get capture+ back. Have tried a few apps in the play store but nothing can compete.
I still have my V20, is there any way to package up and port the capture+ app over? I doubt it but wanted to ask.
Thanks

Yes sure, you can link it with your Gmail account then it will sync it (but need Capture+ on other phone). You can link Gmail account in the Capture+ setting. But if not LG phone maybe need to export to Google Keep app, Keep should do it for you.
Or maybe try install Capture+ on Samsung phone I have not try it.

[Q] App not installed

Hello,
My new nexus 7 doesn't want to install most apps that are .apk
I had the .apk's from my htc evo 3d and the also worked on the samsung galaxy tab 2...
But when I try to install it on the nexus it just says "app not installed"
The apps that didn't work:
-beautiful widgets
-gta vice city
-photoshop touch
-gangstar rio
-many more
-some like temple run 2 and edge ex work...
Running stock rom.
Tried installing the older version of flash because i read that should work..no it doesnt.
Thanks
Why aren't you installing these from the Play Store (minus Flash)?

It's just a personal preference because its easier to install all apps when I have them all in one folder, rather then always searching for them on the play store.
Got used to it because I had my phone a lot of time on service, and it was frustrating to always install everything again and again.

The ones that aren't installing are paid for apps bud, how'd you get them then? Too coincidental that the paid apps won't install, but the free ones will...
If you paid for them from the Play Store, you can hit the little magnifying glass and type in the first 3-4 letters, and it'll find the app right away, takes seconds to do. You can also log into your Google account and search/install that way.
If you got these apps without paying for them, you won't find help here for that.

I dont wanna search for all of them. Because I don't have a list in my head for which apps do I use.
I asked for help. I BOUGHT The tab. I bought most of the apps. Yes not all of them. What else do you want?
I didn't get any help, just atacks on WHY did I do it this way and not the other way. My grandma doesn't use the walking sticks even if her life would be better with them. It's a personal preference It doesn't matter why she wont use the sticks even if I cut off her legs.
If I'll ask what are those 4 gold dots on the side of the tab, I wanna know what. Not explain to you why would I use them and why not!
Now please, can we get to the point of the question?

Wow, so you don't want to just TRY going to the Play Store to install one of these paid for apps to see (called troubleshooting) if it'll install? Google keeps a list of everything you installed, Settings - My Apps - swipe over to All, there's your list.
I know you bought the tablet, no one questioned that. You are asking how to install an app that you have to pay for but you got it via another means (pirated app), and it won't install...again, you won't find help for that here. You're getting asked questions which helps with trying to figure out the root of the problem, and your grandma reference is just disturbing and irrelevant.
Paid for apps don't get installed in /system like system apps are, so the question is relevant.
So here's your answer: Go to the Play Store, search for ONE of the paid apps you are having trouble installing, and TRY installing it from there. Oh yeah, and in Android 4.2 there is more built in security for pirated app detection, so like I've said before, if they are apps that cost money and you didn't purchase each of those apps, you won't be able to install them.

Thanks. That's all that I needed.
Furthermore, have you enabled "Unknown Sources" in Settings to sideload apps like you are trying to do? If not, that could be your problem as well. It could also be the the version of the apps you are trying to sideload are old and aren't supported in Android 4.x, hence the suggestion to try installing from the Play Store.
With Android 4.2 sideloaded apps are scanned, please review: this. It gives you information about what you are trying to do, and the "why" aspect of it.
So before you fly off the handle again with odd no-legged grandma references, try the above mention suggestions to see what happens. Are you rooted, or is your N7 stock?

Well U might be right about the apps being not 4.2 supported. Because some of them are old.
I'm not rooted, just stock.
Some apps are not compatible with certain devices.
It doesn't matter whether a user paid for them or not. They paid for the app. and it installed on the device they had at the time, and it worked. Nowhere is it written, that a dev has to support any devices a person buys in the future.
The app dev's, have no obligation to program the app to work on everybody;s devices, regardless whether you paid for it or not. This is the nature of programming development.
Nowhere is it said that if you buy a new device, the app you purchased last year is compatible. If somebody can prove me wrong, please tell me.
Yes, you may be able to sideload the app. Another way is to make a build.prop edit to make it compatible. This is OK, and you are welcome to do so.
What is not acceptable, is to ask for paid apk's or discuss anything related to software piracy. This is against XDA rules, and also, against the law in most countries.

all well said and true. Not against the law in my country... what now? Its totally normal download music illegal here, no one buys it... not a problem (Just a fun fact not piracy, just saying how easy it is to get stuff )

Questions about removing Google apps

I'm planning to root my Huawei P8 Lite and remove all Google apps. I have some questions about this.
Since I will be using the stock ROM which was designed to be used with Google apps, what are the implications of removing them?
For example, there are some entries in settings that concern Google apps (keyboard, location, search, etc.). What will happen to those after I remove all Google apps?
I have never used stock ROM without Google apps so far, only CyanogenMod without Google apps on my old phone.
Also, what would be the best way to remove Google apps? I have have one way (olivier-m on GitHubGist, can't post a link), but it seems that this list is for ICS and JB. Is that list valid for Lollipop?
Thanks for help.
You need to root and get a root unistaller.

Obviously you will have to find a way to get your apps and updates. Further you should ensure that you have a different keyboard than the google one activated prior to deletion as well as a browser besides chrome etc.
Also make sure to always do a full backup before trying stuff like this. If it shouldn't work you can still ask us for further advice and reflash your backup.

I already have all the alternative apps ready, I've been using F-Droid on my old phone for the last 2 years so that part is taken care of.
Thanks for the tip about the keyboard, I didn't know that. And of course, I will do a backup before trying anything.

It'd be cool if you could keep us up to date on your experiences, since I'm personally interested in this matter.
Nothing bad would happen. I personally keep only Play Store and Google Play Services. I don't need other Google crap such as News Stand, Play Books, Play Music, Gmail, Drive, Youtube and especially Play Movies, Hangouts and Photos. I keep Play Store to buy apps basically and Play Services for in game achievements

I will. My plan is to backup, root, uninstall Gapps and replace them with F-Droid + open source alternatives. I'm very busy though so it might take few days, just so you know.
Update: I gave up from removing Gapps for time being because I wasn't able to successfully root my phone. I will probably wait until the end of the year until there are more options available (rooting and ROMs). Until then, I disabled Gapps and I'm using alternatives from F-Droid.

I hope you're right. Of course, I'll make a backup just in case.
I have finally rooted my P8lite and went on a quest of removing Google apps and other bloatware. I removed every app with Google in its name and soft bricked my phone. Luckily I managed to restore it and now I'm trying again, more carefully.
I will consult these lists:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487073

http://androidforums.com/threads/bo...-de-bloat-your-boost-mobile-galaxy-s3.778877/
However, I would like input from someone knowledgeable on this subject because these lists are either not completely up-to-date not specifically for Huawei.

I rooted my phone and removed a lot of (system) apps and bloatware. I didn't make a list of all the apps I removed, but I can advice you to install Link2SD app and use the "Freeze" function for apps that you're unsure if they can be deleted. If you freeze the app and there's no strange behavior, it's probably safe to remove...

Missing stock email app.

I am on Sprint (LG-LS997). I noticed that it is missing at least the stock email app (not Gmail app).
Does anybody know why? How can I get it?
Anyone? I'm missing it too please.
Sprint for whatever reason is trying to shift to an all Google platform for this device. I am using Bluemail app which is working nicely.

Has any dev successfully ported over an Android (non-gmail) email app from another carrier version of V20?
looking for that as well
Some LG stock apps can be downloaded (as an .apk file) and recompiled with an app called APK Editor on the Play Store, but it's kind of hit and miss as to what works. I honestly think we should make a sticky in one of the forums with links to the downloads to each of these because of how often people (myself included) ask for them.
I can tell you that on a non-rooted LS997, you can get Calculator, Music and Music Widget, Gallery and Email to work. Unless you want to use an Exchange account with it, then you're SOL. The Exchange counterpart is a separate apk that for some reason doesn't work.
Everything else you need root, and even then it's sketchy on the LS997. It would be nice if the dev on the WETA rom would get an LS997 version running because that rom has ALL of the LG apps AND they work. You can install the US996 version, but I could not get the cellular data to work on mine.

Yes, there does appear to be something missing, but that's beyond my expertise. If you do find something, please share! I'd like to see ALL of the stock apps made available to Sprint (and AT&T) users since we got the shaft.

Samsung push on LGV20?

I decided today to remove more stuff from my V20. I found out that it has samsung push services installed.
What would be affected if I remove it?
Samsung push would be effected.
Samsung gear watch maybe?

As stated, you either have a Samsung device you've tried connecting to it or it's an app that came over from a previous device by way of a backup and restore service such as you Google account. Samsung Push is not something pre-installed on your LG device.
@TempezT would you like to create a list of apps you have disabled or removed? A debloat list of sorts. T-Mo H918 here.

Cloud print

Google play music
Google play MOVIES AND TV

And some other apps I don't remember right now. As mention by CHH, some apps came from my N7 so I don't know which ones came stock on my V20.

Thanks for posting this. I wondered when the final axe would fall. Well, it's simpler if GApps are not installed anyway and it was getting more and more temperamental. All the more reason for people to share packages of apps that they are using which work well on the device so we can side-load them. They can't take that away!
Does anyone know if this will affect the license check-in for paid apps? :/
Wondering about Titanium Backup Pro especially, it seems to check in on almost every boot. It would suck if we couldn't use it on the Nook Touch anymore, even though there are some clumsy alternatives.
Oops! Tried installing the 1337 ROM from 9th April 2015... No support for Android Market makes the rom unusable
Definitely backup your entire device + your original recovery before installing clockworkmod or 1337 ROM
I will now rever to stock and probably use Nook Manager to root the stock ROM.
Such a shame, I was super excited ot try out what seemed to be the best NST ROM out there
If it wasn't for ending the support for google apps, it might have been a great improvement, oh well...
Anyone with similar experience?

July 2 and I can still use SearchMarket and install market apps....wonder if working installations are going to continue hobbling along?
Seems like it's gone for me. The market search function at least. The gmail app still works though.
How would you go about unlinking the NST from a google account all together?
It's not registered in the google device manager online, so I can't unlink it there.
I'm worried that things will start to wrong now when the framework is not supported anymore.

I'm surprised your gmail works. I could never keep mine going. It would retrieve mail OK but would only send for a few days and then have to be reinstalled to work for a few more days.
The only concern I have is GoogleBooks, but so far it's OK. I'm not sure you need Market access to sync mail or books, but down the line these older applications may be rejected as security concerns. Time will tell.
So far I see no sign of weirdness.
Edit: OK, today (July 4) my NST is officially independent of the Market. No server contact. However, Google Books still works at this point. I'm not sure you should do anything. You could uninstall SearchMarket but that's about it. After all, lots of people are signed into Google on various devices to get mail but do not access the PlayStore. Famous last words
I have disabled both MarketUpdater.apk and Vending.apk (found in /system/app) by renaming them as *.OLD. After a reboot I have seen no problems running the few apps I had actually obtained from the PlayStore or those I side-loaded. Note I do not have any for-pay apps.
It may be possible to also disable Talk.apk and any adjuncts as this is used to interface with the Market, but I'm not there yet. A good goal would be to quiet down any behind-the-scenes activity by apps that can't connect any longer but keep trying to phone home just to be sure. At the same time I'm trying to maintain sync capability so that, for example, Google Books will continue to work for as long as possible. This, it seems to me, is the only remaining reason to bother with the GApps package at all since Google Sync is enabled with it.
Hello everyone. A few days ago i took my phone wich was lying around in the dust (x10 mini pro). Happily switched on, connected to internet and hit on market, just to realize this happened.
So, is there some market for 2.1-update? I was thinking about F-droid, but, how about this?
