Joying 10.1" touch screen not working - Android Head-Units

Hey everyone,
I had an issue with my previous unit where the screen went dark and nothing would work. Joying sent me a new base unit. I got the new unit hooked up (which isn't the same model or something because it is missing 2 video out ports) and upgraded to 6.0.1. Everything worked fine for about a day and a half and now the touch screen doesn't respond. I can use a mouse and keyboard to navigate the unit but the touch screen doesn't register any touches. I have reflashed the 6.0.1 update as well as done a factory reset. Any other ideas? I really hate to have to end up shipping it back to joying as the process takes forever and now I have to pay to ship 2 units back plus possibly the screen. It is really frustrating. Is the quality usually this bad?

If its been in the vehicle the LCD/digitizer connector might have been vibrated loose. Have you tried unhooking both sides of the cable from the board and screen, checked for damage on either of the cable ends and both connectors and reseated everything firmly?

please let us know what you guys end up doing. My digitizer went bad also.

X1 Ribbon cable - what happens and a fix I came up with!

Hi, I come on here quite a lot for information as it's an amazing resource! This time however, I'm attempting to give something back!
I experienced the "black screen on slide out" on Monday. Phone completely screwed. I've also had a few droppages and had it apart once before so there's no way warranty is gonna help!
I stripped it down and soon discovered what it is that actually fails on the ribbon. The coating had worn through due to rubbing on something during the slide out / in process. it had been playing up for a while, probably due to shorting out on the metal case, but now the tracks (aluminium?) had worn right down.....
In pic 1 i've circled the worn area. The shiny section is where i'd tried taping over it to prevent shorting, before i realised the tracks were gone.
Got an almost new one off ebay for 15 quid and, realising it was going to happen again, came up with a solution that, so far, looks like it will work....
A while back I bought some "anti rattle felt" for my car's dashboard - really thin and strong self adhesive felt to prevent squeaking joins between dash sections. I cut a piece of this and stuck it to the new ribbon. Once this stuff is on it's well stuck, by the way!
See pic 2 for the modded ribbon cable.
On reassembly everything is working just fine so far! Here's hoping that it lasts longer than 6 months this time!
Just need a new casing now as mine is decidedly second hand!
Hope this turns out to be of use to someone!
cool story bro
when i took apart my xperia to replace the housing this seemed like a really weak point in the device. glad to see someone who has had the problem has been able to fix it
Why does the screen go black?
Hi,
When the coating wears off the ribbon cable it exposes the tracks in it. when you slide the keyboard out the exposed tracks short out on the metal casing and the screen loses it's input signal.
thats whats happened on mine at least and i presume quite a few others?
HTH!
Update:
That's interesting: My phone was also losing signal with the keyboard out, and occasionally while closed up as well. It would just randomly drop to "no signal" for a few seconds.
It hasn't done it since replacing the ribbon cable.....could be coincidental of course.
I'm having the same problem
It just started a week ago and I got the phone in January off of ebay. I'm new to opening up the phone so could anyone help me find the correct tools or have a link to a site with pictured instructions?
I noticed that the sliding mechanism started to go loose about 4-5 months ago but didn't expect the screen not respond in landscape mode. I have yet to see the other symptoms you all are referring to. I would like to fix this before it get worse.
In mine case it went totaly black after one week of this problem... You have all the instruction on youtube, there is where i looked. For tools you can be inovative, but the exactly right ones come with housings from ebay, it is only 15EUR, and i bet you have some cracks so it wouldn't hurt replacing. That is what i did, along with ordering new sliding mechanizm, and new ribbon cable.
I am open for ideas to prevent my ribbon cable from being cut at it weakest point again.
I'm assuming my flex ribbon went bad yesterday, since sliding the keypad out causes my screen to shut off.
Already ordered a cable off ebay and will attempt to replace it myself :O
Replaced my flex ribbon cable with one I bought on eBay. The screen doesn't turn on at all now, which leads me to believe the cable I was sent is defective. Put the old one back in and it works okay, less landscape mode. ughhh what a pain.
great tips! my input is I bought a case off of ebay that was ~60$ and everything actually fit fine for me...so I wouldn't discount every seller but you do get what you pay for, the 15$ cases are probablly the ones that will give you problems
I working in a mobilephone repair center if anyone need help drop me a priv... i able to get 2nd hand or even brand new components
Replaced the flex ribbon cable -
I got my flex ribbon cable a few weeks ago and took it to my local repair shop. They replaced it but the LCD screen/optical joystick receives no power. The touchscreen and everything else on the phone works just fine now. I thought it was a defective item so it was exchanged with a new one.
Got the repair shop to replace it again and the outcome still remains the same as the first.
Theres no light coming from the screen nor the side illumination.
I just told the repair shop to just place the original back in for the mean time.
Before the repairs, there would be a flicker of white light and random illuminations. Now there's no lights at all except the power botton.
Could it be defective a batch that the seller was sending out? or the repair shop's mistake and is playing dumb so they do not have to admint fault?
Hopefully there's an easy fix to this problem.
-Also I did inspect the ribbon before and after the repair. looks new as the OEm
Can anybody help me out with this new problem after replacing the cable -
perhaps you should try a hard reset. Ive had problems in the past where the optical joystick and the illuminators did not work, and that worked for me.
On the other hand, the top illuminators are on the same piece of hardware as the flex cable that was replaced, so a faulty flex cable is possible. The bottom illuminators are on the circuit board that the optical joystick attaches to, separate but connected to the flex cable.
Ive recently replaced my flex cable and touchscreen. The experience i had with the faulty touch screen was that it appeared to receive no power, but was in fact displaying a dark backlit illumination that could only be seen in the dark. At the same time however, the screen did not display anything. I'm not sure if this is similar to your experience, but if so then your touchscreen would need to be replaced.
ive done all repairs on the xperia myself, and one thing ive discovered is if something doesnt work right after a repair, simply disassembling it and reassembling it to make sure all the connections are properly done has worked for me in the past.
"Before the repairs, there would be a flicker of white light and random illuminations. Now there's no lights at all except the power button."
Now when you say the power button, do you mean that a red light appears under it?
I dont know if i can come to a conclusion or that i can help (or have helped) you come to a conclusion, but i can only assure you that the xperia acts out in strange and weird ways.
Good Luck!

For info.

Thanks for the links. I've tried the hardreset and restoring the original rom but the issue is still there. It's really bugging me that everything works but the LCD screen. I'm currently using MyMobiler to use my phone. The touch screen works fine and so does the soft keys. Just no power for the lights. I might just give up and wait for another phone that catches my eye and then tinker with the xperia myself. but if anyone got a solution or want me to test something then I'll give it a try.
My warranty is no longer affective so I'll use my phone as a tester to help others with any problems.
TRIONDAVE, how's your Xperia running now with the cable mod that you did? Its been 6 months since you created the thread. I hope you're still around.
My Xperia X1 works nearly fine, except for the keyboard issues, so I'm thinking of opening it up. If your Ribbon mod helped I might just do it too once I've got it opened. Mine has a MOUNTain of cracks though, and the battery compartment itself is cracked on both side enough to make the compartment CURVED. Hence the Battery cover doesn't sit well.
I'm looking around for broken Xperias which I might be able to use to change the internal cracked casing. Lets see.

My thoughts exactly.
Hello guys, I am in need of real help over here!
Its just that Ive replaced my ribbon cable, the old one got screwd up.
However I got done for 10 minutes ago, tried to start up the phone.. without success :,(
The ribbon cable doesnt have anything to do with the start up, only the screen am I correct? Cause I cannot even start my phone..
Ive connected the charger, but when I remove the battery it shows a red light, meaning no battery, correct?
So what may the problem be exactly? Maybe the battery is all dead, or?
PLEASE HELP!
for the people with ribbon failures how long have you had the phone before it occurred ? im just interested on the cables lifespan.
mine is fine so far but i have noticed the slider is flimsy and rocks left and right.

Back cover separation from the front glass

I had my Nexus 7 for about 10 days and in the past few days, I've noticed slight movement of the back cover (only on one edge with the usb port).
It has became worse yesterday and today when you press front glass and the back cover together, you can feel some movement as well as hear clicking sounds. The other three edges were fine.
So, I went and exchanged for a new unit. My old unit was built in June and the new unit is built in July. Also the old unit had some random reboots (mostly when the unit was asleep). So we shall see if this new unit is any better in staying together and see if the random rebooting is still there.
Just reporting a potential problem for others.
I have a 2013.06 unit and I don't see the same problems as you recall.
How do you figure out the build date?

I just saw the date on the box label. There might be a hidden menu somewhere.
My first unit was fine for about a week then I started noticing the separation.

For me, the problem was on the upper-left edge. Toss in some screen flickering and that led to a quick exchange. New unit is fine.
It's frustrating because my Nexus 7 (2012) had this problem too. Eventually solved that by prying off the back off and some creative use of a binder clip, but I was hoping that this wouldn't be an issue. I had to get a lemon sometime, I guess.

New Witson Head Unit/ Minor Frustrations

My new head unit arrived the other day. Ordered it from AliExpress and it took less than a week to get here. I sought out a replacement because my previous Android head unit (Eonon GA5153) was having issues. It performed great for just over a year without any issues. A couple weeks ago my car battery started draining and I couldn't figure out why. It wasn't until I went to grab something out of my car at night that I realized the lights around the unit were still illuminated. Not only that but the fan was still going. I searched thread after thread and I couldn't seem to find an answer other than installing a toggle switch on the accessory wire. I found the Witson 9 inch unit for $245.00 and decided to give it a shot. After unboxing and wiring everything up I realized that the radio trim wouldn't go on because the edges were somewhat squared off in the back of the unit. It clearly isn't a perfect fit for my vehicle (2008 VW R32) but I wasn't going to let a small problem like some square edges prevent me from enjoying a new head unit...that and sending it back to China. I pulled out the old Dremel and used a sanding attachment at low speed and fixed the problem in less than 5 minutes. The unit looks great. Fits just as well as the Eonon did. The only issues Ive had thus far involve the unit not remembering certain things when its shut down. The LOUD beep that occurs with every touch has to be shut off every time I start the car. The radio starts up every time the car is started as well and doesn't save any of the pre-sets. The adjustments to the equalizer wont save either. If anyone could help me out with these issues Id greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

It seems like you have swapped red and yellow cables. Yellow should be always on +12 volt. Red is controlled via ACC, i.e. on when your starter switch
is in acc or running it supplies +12 volt. The yellow, always on, keeps the memory powered. i.e. radio stations are saved and so on.
[dormancy setting] - DORMANCY IF CUT ACC --> ON If you select a hidden setting to radio sleep after cutting off ACC,do not turn off the radio will remember your settings. It will be up to speed will execute and will not beeps when touching.

Head unit screen problem

Hi Guys!
I bought a "Unbranded" Chinese head-unit (Sofia 3GR), thing is, the screen starts off perfect, everything works and displays perfect, then after about 5 minutes, white lines start appearing from the left of the screen, later growing over the whole screen.
Everything still works perfect, except this white "overlay" on the whole screen.
After a reboot, screen is perfect again, and the issue starts again about 5 minutes later. I've monitored the temperature, and it does not seem related.
Here is a video of the unit acting up:

Seller is not very helpful, anybody know what the problem can be.
Any help will be great!!

Most likely the screen controller or dry joint? you could buy freeze spray from electronics component shop and try spraying into the suspect areas. Then you could use a microscope to inspect for dry joints and solder it? Obviously these units are too cheap to take to a repair shop as the bill could be more than buying a new unit.
If no luck, you could sell it for parts.

Dasaita MAX10/PX6 4-64gb Won't Start

Heyyyy guys, so I've got a Dasaita MAX10/PX6 android head unit for my corolla. Bought new in December of 2020. I've never updated it or anything, always ran totally fine. About 2 weeks ago it totally shut off while I was driving.
I've confirmed all of the fuses, including the fuse in the unit are fine. I am also getting ground and 12-14.8v at the harness on constant and accessory. When I did finally pull the unit out of the car I noticed that the ground was no longer attached, but not sure If I yanked it out from where it was when I pulled the radio OR if it came loose and that is what caused it to shut off; either way re-grounding it, same deal. It won't boot up.
I can get the button lights on the screen to light up, and the blink/flash when I hold the RST button, but it never shows anything on the screen. I also picked up another unit (not a Dasaita, just a random cheapo that happened to have the same screen) and hooked that up just in case my screen died. But that does the same thing. Also plugging a monitor into the HDMI out on the unit shows No Signal on the monitor.
I made a wall outlet plug for it to speed up testing since working in my car was a PITA. Same issue outside of the car plugged into a power supply. I can get it to sort of attempt to reset but nothing appears on screen.
I then took the whole thing apart and disconnected all of the ribbon cables and removed the coreboard and reattached everything - same results.
Soooo I'm not sure if my coreboard is totally shot, or if its worth attempting to recover the SOM with a custom cable.
I also stumbled into this: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805119609170.html?spm=a2g0n.productlist.0.0.3b00178e1LqUWJ&browser_id=276e8aff87cc4dabb30f5c59f2bdc799&aff_platform=msite&m_page_id=zetwhgerlccauysr1885ee4fb90185a9d285ecd0a1&gclid=&[email protected][email protected]!12000032566253924!sea!US!0&algo_pvid=d5ec49b7-856f-4398-90ea-6e1e11b2ee01
^^This appears to be a replacement board, will popping this in fix my issue? (if it is the board) or are there additional caveats like drivers/firmware that I would still need to flash this with?
I have been loosely in touch with Dasaita, but I think due to the language barrier and time zone differences it has been a struggle, waiting a day+ for them to suggest something that I have already tried :/
Would love to hear from someone that knows what they are talking about! This is my first rodeo, prior to this though the unit ran fantastically - I had a handful of app crashes in the 2.5 years I've owned it, but simply restarting those apps worked right away. So I'm totally stumped for now.
Thanks guys!
PS: I'm also confused by the Dasaita megathread for firmware updates. They list the MAX10/PX6 needing one firmware but then they list the HCT-RK3399 PX6 needing a different one. My unit was sold to me as a MAX10/PX6 but my board (attached images) shows HCT-RK3399 So in the event that I am able to flash it, I'm not sure which I should be flashing to it.
I have also tried taking both of those update zips from the Dasaita megathread and putting on an SD Card formatted in Fat32 and putting into the units SD Card slot, but same results.
Suggest cut losses and replace with UIS7862 FYT based unit or a genuine AA unit.
