Nexus 6P insert other sim to continue update?? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the next 6p and went through like 20 updates to get to 7.1.1 from 6.0 eating most of my data, but now.. I'm trying to go to the next security patch, but it says ’to install this update, please switch to your other SIM’ and no install button showed up.
What do I do?? I only have one sim please help.

I've never heard of this error, or a Next 6P. Is that your carrier? The 6P does not support dual SIMs. Try taking your SIM out and putting it back in? Borrow another SIM to finish the upgrade? Alternatively you could just follow the tutorial and go straight to the latest version of Android, skipping the interim steps and save yourself a lot of data and a big headache.

Stupid typo lol it's the Nexus from huawei, my carrier is total wireless and the 6P model.

Yeah only one sim came with it, and only one sim fits in the tray, and I got this error after the Oreo 8 update failed to install, then it went back to patching 7.1. That's when the error showed up

I'd rather not mess with root and risk void of warranty can I manually update without root?

Doesn't sound good. Well make sure your battery is fully charged, and try to find another SIM to get you past the error. You don't want to brick the phone while trying to update, that's for sure. If you do get the phone to boot, as a precaution you should enable Developer Settings and toggle on Allow OEM unlock and USB Debugging (if not done already).

I wouldn't abandon the current update at this point, but yes you can still manually update using an OTA newer than the version you are on using the stock Recovery, but I would strongly suggest toggling those two items in dev settings as soon as you can boot into the OS. There is a new FULL OTA out today for 8.0 (Build: OPR6.170623.019) so you could use that with your stock recovery.

This thread is solved now I guess. 8.0 finally finished and installed I guess I lost 4g at some point so it locked me out and thought I changed sim, while in 7.1 I did the developer options and removed and inverted sim again and rebooted and 8.0 went through.. never heard of this problem before or had it before till now.. but where I live I get 1 to 3 bars depending on where I am in the house, so I guess it caused problems.

Thanks for your posts guys. Kidna* just did all of the above all at once and something worked. Lol

Halp! S7 verity i say to you

A couple weeks ago I rooted my S7 Edge, everything has been fine. Cool. I have zero experience other than that phone (currently using S4 on wifi) as far as rooting or other such activities. We had a fire in our home two Thursday's ago and PCs are out for cleaning so I'm kind of screwed right now with my issue.
This afternoon my phone went into a 'phone stopped working' or whatever it said dialog box after receiving a call, I could not answer, could not do anything really, so I rebooted... into a continuous boot. Ho hum.
I tried restarting again, same thing. Booted into recovery and then tried again... back into the boot loop. I figured since I don't have my PCs :crying:
The "dm-verity verification failed" is what I've got. Kind of short in the patience department with all that's been going on asks lack of resources, so I did the factory reset, went through that, redid things, used the phone for a bit, texts etc. Then, the messages boxes started again. I restarted, back right square one. I don't think there is much I can do without my PC but am hoping to find some reads and info regarding my issue.
I haven't looked into and don't know if the sim card from the S7 will work in this S4 as I need to have a working phone. I can use this unit via wifi for the time being.
Sorry for the long winded intro post, just looking for some guidance lol
How screwed am I?
no the nano sim card out of s7 will not work in your micro sim card s4. unless u buy nano to micro sim card adaptor on ebay.
Quickest easiest way to get sim card adapter is buy a $2 starter prepaid SIM from any network .. like you get at petrol station... They generally have a "one size fits all" sim... Just take theor nano SIM card out and pop yours into the micro SIM frame...

If you flash the latest supersu.zip in your recovery then that should remove the dm-verity.

I have to look at things on my pc to see what was used exactly. Seems on par with most things I have seen and xda was where I linked to for things. Things were fine for a couple weeks until that phone call, which doesn't make sense to me. Like wouldn't I have had issues right away if something were not correct? Idk, I busted my cherry on this tmo s7 edge lol

If the supersu method does not work, I would suggest you to flash a stock firmware via odin , root with cf and after that no problems should occur anymore.

[Help] No service | Radio Off | Others no problem

Hey guys!
After few days trying to fix the problem on my Nexus 6P, I still can't make it run properly so I decide to create a new thread asking you guys and this is my last hope for it. I had been using stock android 6.0.1 until I decided to upgrade to OTA 7.1.1 because I hate the notification on the statusbar. My phone worked fine, everything was OK on 6.0.1. After upgrading to android 7.1.1, my phone couldn't get any mobile signal. It still can detect the simcard, the sim toolkit app still shows but I can't use the network. Everything else works properly just like before upgrading. I tried to flash stock 7.1.2 n2g47o image from google; some custom roms like chroma, pure nexus, ressurection remix, flyme, ... and also tried to select automatic band but it is still the same. When I select automatic or any other band, it shows "select [band] unsuccessful". The service state shows "radio off" and I can't turn it back on in *#*#4636#*#*. Please help me! Thank you guys a lot.

Try the flash all bat with stock rom and then relock your boot loader

Are you with verizon, 7.1.1 has images for verizon only and except, may flashing one of those will fix your issue and use the flash all bat to wipe completely your phone.

Thank you guys and sorry for not saying, I flashed both 7.1.1 (NUF26N, Mar 2017, Verizon Only) and 7.1.2 (N2G47O, May 2017) with flash-all.bat follow the instruction here https://developers.google.com/android/images but it remains the same. I read on Nexus Community that Google developers released images that fix signal problems from Feb 2017. I'm downloading this 7.1.1 (NMF26F, Dec 2016. All carriers except Verizon) and will give it a try even when it was released on Dec 2016.

I guess you flashed the backup, apn reset? Or flashing lineage?
Edit: take a look here, maybe deleting via fastboot and restoring with twrp will help

I lost the network right after I upgraded my phone through OTA ;( I flashed stock firmware right after that so I guess it's not come from EFS partition. I backed up all things with TWRP after I had finished the flash-all.bat process. I'm checking out the thread, maybe there's a way out?
Yesterday I brought my phone to Huawei service center in my country but they don't officially sell the Nexus 6P in my country so they didn't take the phone because they don't have anything to fix its problem.
I would try, seems that you got nothing to loose
I'm having the same problem.
I've tried everything you did and when I select automatic bands in 4636 it does successfully, but still no signal.
Also, when I search for network in the mobile settings it always error.
I noticed that my GPS also stopped working. I only can use apps like Maps if I'm connected to a Wi-Fi.
Since the GPS stopped working this makes me believe it's an antenna problem.
If I selected WDCMA Only my network goes to Global instead of what I've selected.
I have the xt1511 (US Nexus Version), but since Nexus is always unlocked I know it isn't a CDMA/GSM trouble.
My wife's 6P started doing this about a month ago where she would randomly lose service for a minute. Today she lost it completely and it seems like there is an issue internally with the radio. I've tried multiple sim cards, factory resets, flashing the latest factory image, trying an old radio version etc. It seems like there has to be some kind of defect. I would hang on to the phone just in case there ends up being a class action lawsuit. Her phone is exactly one year and one month old.
Im frustrated...
I bought my nexus 6p six months ago from a guy on ebay. I love the phone really, but one month later i had the battery problem, and i said well, it could happen, i bought a battery and changed it.
and yesterday, i lost signal. its dead. i tried everything in the forums, i locked it, got it back to stock. and nothing...
Now what?, we dont know if its a hardware problem or is it a software one.
Should I take it to a service center in the us? I have no warranty.
Update 06-12-17: so i kept readying and I saw someone solved the issue installing a factory image from febuary. I did it flashed it, then went into recovery and made factory reset. and it worked!!!! signal is backkkk! im soo happy!!!
Update 2 06-12-17: yeah i was happy, and soo i was going back to normal, i installed twrp, and root, phone boot up and again bye bye signal.
Update 06-14-17: Turns out that since I got to Colombia a month ago, this country has like a national IMEI list. Since I didn't subscribe my device the carrier blowies my phone and that why I had no service... Soo this ends my journey with the no service problem. They fixed it

Is your phone a H1511 or 1512? You didn't mention it explicitly but you may have changed the LTE bands using a hidden menu. Apparently this is a known bug with the hidden menu itself. Several people have had luck flashing an older version of Chroma and switching the band back to Auto. There is a link to the ROM for the 6P in this Nexus Help Forum. If you never used this menu before, you may just be able to access the menu and try setting to Auto first before flashing the ROM. You should get a confirmation that AUTO mode is selected. You also didn't explicitly mention whether the phone worked properly for a while AFTER your battery repair, OR was a direct result of your repair... which could mean it was damaged.

its the 1511 version. Yes the phone worked perfectly after the repair. I was in the US, and three weeks ago I came to colombia. Suddenly it stoped working a couple of days again. I tried the chroma rom. Selected the Auto band. but it did nothing, rebooted and everything but didnt work.
Earlier today i installed a older factory image and it work, i thought it was solved, then i flashed twrp, rooted and lost service again... tried the factory images again and nothing...

New RS988 Software Update - 21c

Just checked and downloading now in US.
Version: RS98821c
Thanks for the heads up.
Just installed it on my device and it's the July security patch.
Really wish there was an option to wipe the system cache on this device. I usually do this on my devices after a software update and was surprised there was no option in the recovery.
I hope it helps with my two biggest issues for nougat on this phone.
Battery life went to 4 hours or less.
And in the New York area, on AT&T it starts with a 4Glte connection, but then drops down to slower speeds and never recovers.
Yeah, I have the same AT&T Lte problem. Just installed the update and hope it fixes it. Hard to test right now. At the airport and lte tends to not drop me here. The problem is generally reaquiring Lte after it drops to HSPA.
I see the update but can't get it to install. My RS988 is unlocked with TWRP and Magisk. Phone reboots to install update and goes to TWRP. Hit system reboot and back in OS without update installed
Well my reception is still crud on T-Mobile. I have to resort to using their Digits app to get all my messages and calls at home.
RS98821c Noticeable Improvements
My carrier is Verizon. I know hate me if you want.
Anyway the things I noticed so far almost instantly after installing this update is that my fingerprint sensor is faster. The phone is slightly more responsive, and that my battery life has improved a little bit. Awesome update for the LG G5!

So far, it seems to have fixed the AT&T connectivity issue. I used Open Signal prior to this upgrade to analyze my connectivity. I was not locking on to/switching to the closest tower and always got stuck with HSPA even if there was a closer lte connection. It just would not hand off once dropped off lte. Now, it seems to work as it should. I am now always on the closest connection.

After update to latest version, i realized battery charging become very slow.

Latest update seems pretty solid. I think battery life may have improved slightly. No problems charging, however I did factory reset.

What do you mean tether options? You mean USB debugging for ADB and so on? They have been working for me just fine. USB 3.1 to HDMI works, and so does tethering for internet to a PC. Not sure what you mean by tethering options other than that sorry.

Agreed battery life did improve a little bit. I am still going to try rooting eventually and getting LSpeed in the process. Should fix a lot of the issues I have had with this phone!
---------- Post added at 10:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:50 PM ----------
I read on an older post that enabling "Force GPU rendering" in the developer options made the LG G5 faster. I don't know if that only applies to the older Marshmellow version or if it also applies in the current android nougat update. I'm testing it now!
Also to add to this post. If I leave my phone in my pocket when it is asleep it gets super hot! I'm not sure why, and I am guessing doing a factory reset will solve the issue. Although if I do reset the device, I'm definitely going to root it in the process. LG should release an update where we can clear system cache to solve issues...This has been in every phone leading up and has been known to solve issues with OS update... I shouldn't have to factory reset my device to fix stupid problems like these.
Ok, so enabling "Force GPU rendering" does make the phone more responsive. The battery seems about the same if not better than before when the option is enabled in Developer Options. Try it out! Hope it helps!

Oh I was just worried about mobile hotspot and usb tether. Verizon users with classic unlimited plans are technically not allowed to tether. Anyway I am happy to report that 21c does not hinder any of those features either.
Installing 21c with TWRP
Hello G5 owners,
I have an LG G5 with an unlocked bootloader and TWRP installed. I am also currently running on stock version 21a. Excuse me of I'm being a noob, but how do I install updates? I have the update downloaded, but when i try to install it, it brings me to TWRP. Do I have to obtain the ZIP file from someone else?

In order to be able to perform the OTA upgrade at the very least your recovery (and possibly boot partition as well) needs to be the stock one, if you have TWRP and rooted the upgrade will fail.
I believe that the proper recovery for the 21a should be available in CODEFIRE's downloads
First of all I'd suggest you to take a full backup of apps and data (I personally use titanium backup) and save it on your PC
Go to the All in One thread from Autoprime (https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/how-to/info-autos-g5-thread-t3350648) and look for "Download LG G5 Files From Codefire Here"
in the RS988 folder for the 21a I saw a recovery.img that likely is the stock one. If that is indeed the stock recovery, you can flash it in fastboot (you might need to flash the boot too if the update fails with the correct recovery) , run the update and then reflash TWRP and suspersu (in case you lose SU)
I would suggest you to confirm with the codefire team if that is the correct file (it is in the correct folder but the name is quite generic), worst case scenario, in case it is not and you have already flashed it, you might need to reflash back twrp and wait for the correct one to be made public before being able to run the update with minimal hassle.
If the boot partition was patched too upon rooting, some checksum might cause the update to fail as well
Alternatively you could take a full app/data backup, reflash 21a stock, run the updates, reflash twrp and then root again and restore the original app/data backup (as mentioned in https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72649831&postcount=8)
I now have a question still related to this upgrade; is there any way to pull a backup of the 21c (including boot and recovery)?
No recent kdz appears to be available, hopefully we will get another patch sometime soon that could address the blueborne vulnerability, and I wanted to have a way to restore boot and recovery to stock so to run the future OTAs.
would I need to unlock, boot in twrp (fastboot boot twrp-3.0.2-1-rs988.img) and run a dd dump of sde1 and sde2 from there?

Essential PH-1 downgrade

Hello yall!
So I am at a complete loss on how to fix the issues with my Essential device.
So I decided to post here in as much detail as I can and hopefully receive some answers.
I purchased my phone used from eBay about a month ago.
According to the listing it was factory unlocked.
I have AT&T prepaid.
Everything was running smoothly for about a week until I receive the notification for the Android Pie OTA.
(At this time my bootloader was not yet unlocked nor was I rooted).
Again everything was fine UNTIL I installed the security patch update.
As soon as I installed and rebooted my sim read as invalid.
I rebooted, tried to mess with network settings, factory reset, etc.
Turning to Google, I realize this is a common issue with the Sprint variant of this device (of course my luck would be for me to unknowingly purchase the Sprint variant not knowing there was any issues) and the pie update.
The main fix for this issue would be of course to downgrade back to Android 8.
Here's my issues...
I unlock my bootloader.
Install the Android 8 firmware from the official Essential site. (made sure to install the one for Sprint variant).
Flash.
The touch screen is not functional. At all.
Flash back to Android Pie and install TWRP
Flash Android 8 custom ROM.
Touch screen still not functional.
So I'm back on Android Pie and touch screen is working, but sim is still invalid.
How are other essential users successful in downgrading the software?
HELP.

Did you unlock your critical partitions along with the bootloader?

Do you think you could link that post for me? I can't seem to find it.
I also don't see any uicc option on my debice. (Not sure or that matters though)
If it's Sprint you need to wait 50 days before you can unlock it. CDMA phones are a pain in the ass to unlock, always buy International if possible!
This thread has some information that might be useful:

This is required for the touch screen firmware to be flashed and OP needs to see this.

Unexpected Update: N950USQU8DVB1 2022-02-22

My Verizon Note 8 just received an update (N950USQU8DVB1) but I had thought that the phone was out of support and was not going to get any more updates. I don't see mention of this one on the Verizon update page. Does anyone know what this is about and why we are getting an update after the support window is over?
Hmmm. Just got the Verizon update also..it does show on web page now as available.
No idea why this came in a year after support ended...lots more than just security updates it seems. Glad I kept it
Can anyone confirm if this update made voLTE available?
Does anyone have the files available yet to download and flash?
I don't see them on sammobile.com yet, but I would like to get a copy if anyone can help.
This updated broke my phone. I updated last night and now I have a "No sim card" message. I took my phone to a repair shop and they couldn't fix it. They suggested maybe a flash/roll back, but they wouldn't do it for me. My phone was perfectly fine before I updated. Good times..............
Try booting to recovery mode and wiping the cache partition. My friend had a dual sim version and sim not found message happened to him, wiping cache and double checking network was set to auto fixed it for him.
Another method may be trying to connect to windows and download Verizon software assistant and select repair phone. Takes a while to download everything so be patient until it finishes. I recall it took a half hour. Hope it helps.
