Frustrated by lack of global use and international FW/CSC - Samsung Galaxy Note FE Questions & Answers

Hi,
I've had this FE for 2 months and still find it one of the best devices to date. However I find it increasingly frustrating that there is a lack of international FW so for instance, Samsung Pay doesn't work because it expects me to use a korean sim. There goes the need to try a Gear S3! Android pay works fine.
Also some of the other options are missing like WIFI calling and still my text messages don't receive delivery notifications..
Is there any likelyhood that this FE will be distributed more widely bringing with it an international FW package and CSC to make it a little more usable?
I'd also be glad to see the back of the SK Telecom branding and some of their network settings!
cheers

Flash L version of firmware wifi calling are available option, download "quick shortcut maker" and search wifi call

Would it be possible to port over or flash the CSC from the galaxy s7 exynos? For example the Canadian market has the exynos s7 and Rogers supports VoLTE and VoWiFi. Any chance someone can post a guide to port over these features?
Actually even the regular note 7 had these features, but the Canadian version ran the Snapdragon.

i ported the S8+ ATT CSC features to my 935K so i could use HD Voice and VoLTE. can't get wifi calling to work (IMEI on phone has to match IMEI stored n ATT's system). you have to be rooted to attempt this change (and be sure to backup your phone before attempting this mod. i'm sharing my steps, but you do this at your risk. detailed steps i used are below:
i extracted the ATT vesions of the customer.xml, cscfeature.xml and cscfeature_network.xml files from the OMC\XAA\ATT folder in the csc package file posted in this thread
afterwards, i downloaded an S8+ ROM to extract the SmartCallProvider folder; this is needed to get the Places feature to work.
next, i used notepad++ to open and renamed the cscfeature.xml file to cscfeature-att.xml. i also searched for "whitepages" to find this line and <CscFeature_Common_ConfigSvcProviderForUnknownNumber>off,off,whitepages</CscFeature_Common_ConfigSvcProviderForUnknownNumber> and changed the off entries to whitepages. it should read <CscFeature_Common_ConfigSvcProviderForUnknownNumber>whitepages,whitepages,whitepages</CscFeature_Common_ConfigSvcProviderForUnknownNumber>
with cscfeature-att.xml still open, i opened cscfeature_network.xml copied all lines between ,<FeatureSet> and </FeatureSet> and pasted them into the cscfeature-att.xml file just before </FeatureSet>.
next, i saved the combined file as others-att.xml and i renamed customer.xml to customer-att.xml
after that, i copied the SmartCallProvider folder, others-att.xml and customer-att.xml to my device, then copied the xml files to /system/csc folder and set the correct permissions. i copied the SmartCallProvider folder to /system/app folder and set the correct permissions on the folder and apk
i booted to TWRP, used TWRP's file manager to rename the stock /system/csc/others,xml to others.xml.bak and rename the stock /system/csc/customer.xml to customer.xml.bak
next,using the TWRP file manager, i renamed others-att.xml to others.xml and i renamed customer-att.xml to customer.xml
finally, rebooted my device and upon reboot waited for the "Android upgrading process..." to finish.
after the upgrading process finished,
the cell network indicator switched to ATT's version, video call was enabled in the Samsung dialer
pressing 1 on the Samsung Dialer dialed my voicemail; since i use google voice, adding my number with the stock dialer didn't work
i can now access the call forwarding features and enter my google voice number
i know have the ability to identify unknown numbers - Caller ID and spam protection (although i don't know if it works)
and most importantly (for me), the "Places" tab is now available on the Samsung Dialer so i can search for places when i travel

lte problem

I have galaxy S4 I9505 with stock ROM installed (4.4.2), the phone should support lte network in my country (1800/2600 frequency).
My network mode right now is LTE/WCDMA/GSM, after I followed a guide in the internet to add this option (with es file explorer).
When I have a 4G sign on the status bar, the network suddenly becomes very slow and I can't even open a search engine.
If I change the network mode into WCDMA/GSM, and the sign changes into H/H+, without leaving the current place, the speed increases dramatically.
I've tried to check it with my cellular company, but they claim that because I've bought the cellphone abroad, they can't help me.
I've also checked with my other friends which possess 4G devices and they do manage to enjoy high speeds on those areas.
What can be the problem?
Help
Any one??

I can't find the link to the guide, but it was something like that: Open es file explorer-->enable root explorer-->find file called 'persist.radio.lteon'-->delete it-->restart the phone-->on network mode choose LTE/WCDMA/GSM.
About the ROM, I've downloaded it from Samsung software site and burned it with odin. It should be kitkat 4.4.2. That is the file's name:
I9505XXUFNB8_I9505OXAFNB8_I9505XXUFNB8_HOME.tar.md5

If I search on that file, then the guides say to change a value in that file from "false" to "true". I don't think you should have deleted that file. That could be the source of you problem.
Just reflash the rom you mention true Odin and try to change to value.

Help Needed - call recording.

Hi there
i have grand 2 LTE, G7105, it came with stock 4.3 JB, and there was no stock option to record calls like i had in my S3, so i decided to flash stock KK version and i chose the one that i can use CWM also, so i was on stock 4.4.2 rooted FW, and i see that in KK rom there is no option to record calls.
i started searching in google for this issue cause i had stock FW on S3 with option to record my phone calls and i had it also on S2 stock FW, i found out that this option do exist on android and if i dont have i just need to enable it, so i went on digging and found a guide on how to enable this option on stock rooted S5 device.
so this is what i found:
the method was to use a root browser to edit a file located in \system\csc folder.
the file is feature.xml, and if you dont have this file there is another one that can be used named others.xml.
once you open the file with Root browser you should check for a line :
<CscFeature_VoiceCall_configRecording>RecordingAllowed</CscFeature_VoiceCall_ConfigRecording>
if the line you find say NotAllowed, then change it to Allowed, if the line does not exist in file , then just add it between : <CscFeature> to </CscFeature> .
once you are done just save the file and reboot device and now there is a call record button insted of add call button in dialer.
so i tried this method and in one version of stock KK rooted (Greece FW - XXUBNL1, XXEURBNL1) i had only others.xml and i added the line and saved file, reboot device and no call recording option.
now i tried it also on rooted stock AMO region which is Spain country open csc XXUBOB1, AMOBOB1 , and there also added the line to others.xml reboot device and still no call recording.
pls can anyone help make call recording work, anyone have a solution for this issue ?
does anyone use stock FW that has call recording enabled already , and which FW is that ? even if its for G7102 device. so i can check if there is an update in sammobile for same FW
thanks for helpers.
SAME HERE, but solved with another method!! Must read...
Hello my firend!
The same here I have the 7102T (Brazil model 3G with Digital FULL HD TV) this line even in the feature.xml or others.xml didn't work either.
I think the unique way is decompiling the secphonecall.apk change the script inside it, then recompile and replace in the phone. There are threads in xda forum of this but not ofr our phone models.
The paliative way I did it work is using xposed framework with the wanan module and inside wanan optin Dialer enable "record button enabled" option. Restart phone and be happy. (Newer versions of Wanan have this option enabled by default so if you just install wanan and the exposed framework and enable wanan module in it, so it will give u the recording button.
Peace!

930U Firmware for all phones!!! New Update

930U FIRMWARE
Those of you on Sprint that have been locked into the Sprint only firmware now can go back to the beloved U firmware...or flash a carrier firmware of your choice. If you are still on b4, I would stay, but if not, now is the chance to install the U firmware.
Check your current bootloader version. You may not be able to odin carrier firmware after install the U firmware.
I'll put the files in this Google Drive folder
1. Download Odin3_v3.13.1_3B_PatcheD.zip (Check Odin Folder)
2. Download SM-G930U_B.zip this is the newest U firmware (Check G930U Firmware Folder)
SM-G930U_A.zip if you are on 'A' firmware and want to go back to carrier
SM-G930Ub9.zip if you are on '9' firmware and want to go back to carrier
3. Extract both zips
4. Open Odin
5. Place the files from SM-G930Uxxxxxxxx.zip into the correct BL, AP, CP, CSC blanks.
6. Put phone into download mode (power, home, volume down)
7. Connect phone to computer. Odin should now say phone is added. If not, install the Samsung phone drivers
8. Press START. This process will take about 10 minutes
9. Phone will reboot with new U firmware and Oreo installed.
HotSpot
1. download the QuickShortcutMaker app from the playstore.
2. Search for lte
3. Expand com.test.LTEfunctionality
4. Click on the new com.test.LTEfunctionality
5. Press Try
6. Scroll to LTE APN Settings
7. Click APN2 LTE internet (may be different outside of sprint)
8. Scroll to APN Type
9. Add " ,dun " The line should show read < default,mms,dun >
10. Click 3 dots to save
Random Questions/Answers:
1. Is it multi-csc? Yes, it should support any US carrier if your phone is carrier unlocked
2. Wifi Calling/VoLTE supported? Wifi Calling=yes; VoLTE=not sure, sprint doesn't support it.
3. Are XXX bands used with my carrier unlocked? All bands with major US carriers appear to be working. You can follow this guide for unlocking additional LTE bands to confirm or unlock more international bands. Change the dial code for the USB settings to ##3424#

Old Stuff
The "U" Firmware will work on any G930 Galaxy S7 (basically, USA variants) and is the Samsung Galaxy Touchwiz OS without carrier bloat. There is Samsung Bloat, but some can be uninstalled or disabled with a program like Package Disabler Pro or just disable it under application manager.
This should not trip Knox and will allow you to flash back to your original stock firmware. Warranty should not void, but I'm not responsible for bricked devices, exploding batteries, crying babies, Earth crushing meteors. If you have a question, best to ask it first!
There is an OTA to PG9 after you install this firmware. Feel free to upgrade after you flash this!
Installation:
1. Download
Updato Firmware Website or Sammobile Firmware Website or PL2 Firmware Google Drive (post 365 for MD5)
2. Extract files. May be best to download files over a wired connection!
3. Open ODIN and place the BL; AP; CP; CSC from the rar in the corresponding slots.
4. Place phone in download mode. Power + Vol Down + Home
5. Connect Phone to computer
6. Odin should recognize your phone. If not, you need to download and install the Samsung Driver Files
7. Press Start
8. It should flash the "U" Firmware.

Pit Mapping Error Fix
1. Download the Pit File Here
1a. You will have to down the Sprint PE1 firmware from Pit File Here or Pit File Here
The bootloader changed from v3 to v4 after the PGx update. If you are going to odin the latest firmware, you shouldn't have any issue. Going back to PGx to PCx/PEH will require this.
2. In Odin click the tab that says "Pit"
3. Odin will pull up a Warning dialogue. Click ok.
4. Click the long rectangular "Pit" button to select the pit file
5. Select the file that says "HEROQLTE_USA_SPR.pit" from the files you downloaded from my link.
6. With the pit file nw included, Add the AP, CP, and CSC files again and flash. (may need to reboot and go back into download mode)
7. Now odin the older 'U' firmware
____________________________________________
You cannot root this firmware with the Sprint model. Here are some apps that will give you some root/xposed features without them.
HotSpot
1. Download Shortcut Master Lite
2. Search for LTEfunctionality
3. Click on com.test.LTEfunctionality
4. Launch
5. Scroll down to LTE APN Setting
6. Add " ,dun " to APN2 LTE and EHRPD internet under APN type. That line should read default, mms, dun when you finish.
7. Native Hotspot should work. You may have to do this hack again if you update Profile.
Ad Blockers
None of these block ads on Youtube completely. Some will let you route through their servers to filter ads on Youtube via a VPN.
1. Adhell Uses Samsung Knox to block ads and trackers. Blocks most things on webpages and apps (no youtube), but saves a ton a battery since it doesn't require VPN. Also, it is FREE and well supported!
2. Disconnect Pro Similar to Adhell, but a paid app. Search the Galaxy App Store to buy it. Uses Samsung Knox too.
3. Ad Guard. Best I've used, but is a paid app for the good features.
4. AdClear. Some have had success with this, I've had mixed results.
5. BlockThis! Works well, but caused issues on some webpages.
Youtube Ads
This doesn't block ads, but it does silent and auto skip them. Cygery
Skip Tracks With Volume Keys
1. Frinky Music Controller Allows you to skip tracks with screen off.
2. Noyze Not sure if still being developed, but works. Let's you skip tracks by long pressing with screen off.
Voicemail Issue
I use Google Voice, so this worked for me. It is/was free to integrate your number with Google Voice...highly recommend if they still do it.
Install this apk for Sprint Visual Voicemail apk It will give you an error, but will take away the annoying voicemail notification. Then you can just hide the notification in the android settings and your problem will be solved. May work if you have regular voicemail, but probably not since it needs to write to system.
Doze Related
Remember to whitelist apps you want running in the background...like Pandora, Google Music, etc. I would leave them off at first and if it cuts off when the screen is off, you need to white list it.
For me, these both work best together and I saw a difference running both as opposed to either solely.
1. ForceDoze puts your phone into doze mode without the motion detectors and 30 minute wait. Great app! Does require you to install adb (adb installer) since you have to run a command to get it to run properly. Check Disable motion sensing and turn off while charging
2. Greenify The auto hibernation works great if we had root, but we don't. It works, but can be extremely annoying at times and can drain battery because it may continuously try to force stop/close an app you greenify. Plus, it will take a few seconds to re-unlock your phone immediately after you turn off the screen. However, I use it with force doze for the aggressive doze. I saw a difference in battery life by using them both.
Other Tips
Besides the obvious of gmail/facebook/whatspp/twitter/snapchat syncing
1. Turn off wi-fi scanning
2. Back up my data for Samsung and Google under back up and reset
3. Turn off some features under advanced features in settings...for example, palm swipe to capture if you never use it
4. Location History under Location
5. Change locating method...I leave mine on GPS, wi-fi, mobile, but some people want more battery life and turn it off.
6. Turn on developer options and change animations to 0.5
7. Turn off Always on Display under settings > display. I like it, so I leave it on...but takes about 2% an hour
Old stuff
Has anyone tried the 930U firmware for our Sprint phones (930P)? They seem to have success with it (935U) over at the Sprint S7 Edge forums.
On the Edge forums, they said you can root, but it messes with LTE/call abilities. However, it removes all Sprint bloatware and apparently allows for hotspot tethering.
According to the Edge forums, it is the universal firmware, so it should work on any qualcomm chipset phone. The firmware is for the Galaxy S7 Special Edition ( Link to Sprint site about it )
Anyway, here is the thread on the AT&T forum about it if you are interested. Didn't see a thread or info about here, so I was just wondering.

Not without root on this firmware. Some have said Hotspot works without issue, but I had to use the hurry and turn it on at boot technique.

That technique won't work with that version. I only got it to work on PE1 by rooting. I read that you can use PDAnet via the USB tether option.

follow the steps here to install it.

[GUIDE] unlock APN settings on stock firmware

if you have a problematic firmware that won't allow you to edit your APN settings in the dialer hidden menu, this may be what you need.
first, the warnings:
1. THIS IS ONLY FOR SPRINT SAMSUNG PHONES RUNNING TOUCHWIZ ROMS!!! never attempt on any other carrier or manufacturer's device or alternate roms! it should most likely work on other Samsung Sprint devices with stock/touchwiz roms.
2. DEPENDING ON DEVICE, YOU ARE MOST LIKELY TO BE FORCED TO FACTORY RESET YOUR DEVICE IN THE PROCESS, which likely includes LOSS OF ALL DATA ON INTERNAL SD!! take all necessary precautions.
3. ROOT REQUIRED
4. you will STILL NEED your MSL number!!!
5. have a FULL backup in TWRP ready in case anything goes wrong. INCLUDE your EFS in the backup!!! again, INCLUDE YOUR EFS. make sure it's stored on EXTERNAL sd card. again, EXTERNAL SD CARD!!! or copy it to your PC if you don't have an external card.
here's the short but sweet guide.
1. download "Samsung Phone Info" from Google Play
2. swipe over to the CSC section.
here you should see:
Firmware's CSC Code
Active CSC Code
Available CSC Code
3. if Firmware's AND Active both say XAS, you should already be able to edit your APNs using your MSL number.
if Firmware and Active codes do not match, you have a dirty rom and I am unable to help you correct it, you'd best try a different stock based rom or 3rd party that allows it by default.
if Available CSC Codes does NOT include "XAS" then whoever modified the customized stock touchwiz rom you're using removed it and you'd best try a different stock based rom or 3rd party that allows it by default.
4. using any CSC editor, change "SPR" in ALL places it appears as only the 3 letters "SPR" to XAS
5. confirm changes and reboot. you will now most likely lose ALL personal data on your phone and should now be able to edit your APN using your MSL inside the dialer's hidden menu.

first, the warnings:

Have you found a way to retrieve your MSL without calling sprint? I've tried all the tool apps in the play store and using a logcat within the ##3282# menu with no luck. Getprop ril.MSL yields nothing, not even a not found error.
I've tried calling sprint for my MSL but refuse to release it.. I'm not exactly on their "nice" list - they've even called to tell me I'm "using too much of my [UNLIMITED] data" many times so I don't expect much from them anymore..
Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated
try the Sprint chat -- through the website, NOT Facebook, and have a good reason ready as to why you need the MSL, other than for bypassing their security lol
Holy **** after searching high and low I have FINALLy found a way to get back editing my APNS for hotspot on my rooted Sprint Note 5! AND I keep Android Pay! Thanks so much!!
This works perfectly! Only thing is turn on hotspot option disappeared from settings. I can turn it on and off from the top bar if I swipe down. OR I can download a hotspot shortcut app and access it from that app.
Also I noticed my icons for LTE now say 4G and the bars are different too - more old school.
I noticed I changed EVERY SPR to XAS - do ALL of them NEED to be changed to enable APN editing? Can I switch back the ones that give me back hotspot option in settings and stock LTE & bars icons?

this **might** be fixed by renaming (or deleting, if you're brave) the features.xml file, if I remember correctly, stored in system/csc/ or system/etc/ not sure honestly
features.xml.backup should do just fine.
if the rom doesn't boot afterwards or if the dragons catch all your apps on fire, go back to recovery and use TWRP's file manager to change it back
also, any xposed app (like wanam's) or other feature.xml adjusting apps (like GalaxyTools or Samsung Phone Info) can cause the problem to happen again.
the alternative / temporary / dirty-fix would be to create a shortcut to hotspot on your home screen:
1. download Activity Launcher from Google Play
2. launch and change recent activities to all activities
3. wait approximately 72 years for it to load
4. scroll to Settings and tap it
5. scroll to Hotspot and long-press it
6. tap create shortcut
7. never uninstall Activity Launcher -- instead just make it a hidden app (it's very small anyways)
I can just longpress hotspot toggle in slide down drawer from top no probz. Which CSC settings modifies the ability to edit APN? I want to put the rest back to SPR.
Sent from my SM-N920P using Tapatalk
I used the msl code and everything appears the way you say it should... but the phone STILL says invalid sim!
What internal file must be deleted, the thing is unlocked on sprints end it just wont let go !

Xiaomi Mi Bunny Watch Q internationalization

Please somebody help to modify firmware to enable international GPRS connections
What we currently have:
1. Mi Bunny Watch Q is Working on MT6261 SOC
2. Operating system is modified 2011 year Nucleos RTOS, which was widely used in older featurephones
3. Firmware is not available for separate downloading. Watch updating is OverTheAir (via Bluetooth connection from your smartphone with original APP, and, PROBABLY via GPRS connection) firmware files are called
SH08_PCB01_gprs_MT6260_S00.MAUI_11B_W13_08_MP_V15.bin
My current firmware version is MAUI.11B.W13.08.MP.V15
updates are downloaded from http://upgrade.imibaby.net/upgradeWatch
also you can find http://sw105-online.imibaby.net/ link in firmware - probably for watch activation
All we have now - full ROMdump of my watch divided to parts with Readback Extractor mtk
Also we can get acess to NVRAM and FAT partition with MauiMETA_v9.1635.23 tool (you need NVRAM database file for MT6261 chip - i've gt one from Keneksi X8 firmware kit ( or from official site ) also i have used scatter file from Keneksi to download ramdump with SP Flash Tool
Also there is good tool Binwalk which i don't know how to use well
4. Watch activation procedure looks like: ( english user manual for similar product )
-turn on the watch (lights on and sound prompt)
-insert SIMcard (sound prompt)
-----------we are currently here------------------
-GPRS connection is automatically established
-and watches time should set up the time (you get a sound prompt) /what notifies server of pairing ready status/ - this should be a sign and confirmation of successful internet connection
-you scan QR code in your user-manual (smartphone receives pairing settings from server) and establish connection between smartphone and WATCH
...
5. Watch officially supports only Chinese SIM cards. Confirmed by manufacturer. Chinese cellular operators settings are preinstalled. MNC MCC and APN can be found in firmware like 460 46000 46002 46007 etc
i have tryed to change MCC and MNC to my operators (25501) (my operator supports any APN so i got luck here)
and have got a breakthrough here - watch began to establish GPRS connections via "internet" APN
but no luck - time is not set up, i've got no "successful connection" sound prompt, and it is still impossible to activate it.
I have contacted manufacturer via Weibo and WeChat.
Everywhere i got refused with corporate security reasons, BUT at the very beginning i think some very helpful manager answered and tryed to give help (later he disappeared)
He requested from me to fill up XML form with my cellular operator's settings and sent image explaination
Hello,Mr Pumpkin
There is some instructions you can follow.
First, please make sure the sim card support calling in or calling out.
Secondly,be sure the sim card supports 2G GPRS connection.
You can consult the local operators about specific parameters.
The "code" parameter and "apn" parameter in the following table must be filled in correctly.
The other parameters are alternative.
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
- <Account>
- <AcntHdr>
<AcntVer>1.0</AcntVer>
</AcntHdr>
- <AcntBody>
- <SIM Operator="BEELINE" Code="25502">
- <Item Bearer="GPRS">
<AppType>WAP</AppType>
<Title>Beeline WAP GPRS</Title>
<APN>wap.beeline.ua</APN>
<Authentication>NONE</Authentication>
<Homepage>http://wap.beeline.ua</Homepage>
<Proxy Enable="Yes" ProxyAddress="172.29.18.192" ProxyPort="8080" />
<PrimaryDNS>null</PrimaryDNS>
<SecondDNS>null</SecondDNS>
<IPAddress>null</IPAddress>

There is excellent site with lots of information
https://www.dr-lex.be/hardware/china_phone_flashing.html
Also some discussion is going on MIUI forum and russian 4pda forum
International Apn settings
The answer from the Chinese manufacturer is an xml file that we should add to the device ROM. It is not so different to the following thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387346
I have my bunny watch 2, that I have paired during a visit to Sz, and will try to add the xml file today. Hopefully we can get a connection.

Excellent desicion! I will try to do it.
I can assume, that developer didn't offered me this thing because we actually don't have access to ROM. We can get there only with MAUI META tool. Also the watch is not based on Android, so we will have to find correct folder to place the file and guess correct name for it.
Also XML should be specifically formatted, and we have this format from developer.
Easier said than done, but still I got some progress today.
After reviewing the ROM I was able to find several At commands to control the device.
I'm missing the sintaxis on many of them, but I was able to directly perform and receive a call from the Hyper terminal.
I named the xml file default.xml and placed on the root directory and several others but no luck achieving a Apn configuration.
Also I browsed the fat and nvram looking for hints on how the device was configured while using the Chinese card, but no luck there.
If I'm able to find the device configuration At command it should be pretty straightforward.
Just as a note, the App is fully Chinese, no options on the menu are translated.

Some of terminal AT+ commands work excellent (like ATD Most interesting one is AT+DEBUG_ON and AT+DEBUG_OFF it changes usb connection type. ( With debug on you will get 2 usb devices (usb com, and modem)
About app - i have translated it to russian, if it can help )
Connecting outside of china
Well, today I got connection from outside of China.
I played with several of the At commands that were supposed to actually configure the settings, and all seemed to make the terminal hang.
But after rebooting the phone it got a connection. Now it's fully working.
I used the AT+CGDCONT command.
Then I reviewed again the Fat to look for changes and the only file that was modified is store_info. Dat file.
That file was loaded in the same back up you made, with China Mobile settings, and now mine has got the unicom settings.
For the information it contains it looks fairly similar to the format the engineer gave you a solution for.

Excellent news. Now i just would like to have some more details, on how i could repeat your success.
AT+CGDCONT is not working for me - no answer from watch to this command.
Can you provide some more info. What MCC and MNC does your cellular operator has? What version of firmware do you use.
Did you actually implemented any changes to your firmware?
Which terminal software do you use? Which COM device you selected? Was DEBUG mode active?
Or what should i do to get my watch connected?
Thank you.

Did you connected with a Chinese Sim card and then changed it to a foreign one?
So I first activated my device in China with a Xiaomi Sim card.
Then traveled back to Hk, and tried with Hk local China unicom, China Mobile and three Sim cards. None worked.
Then I tried the at command for setting up the Apn settings on the device. The commands would not give an OK response, so I do not know exactly which one worked.
Then rebooted the device, and it can connect with Three and China mobile cards. UNICOM still not working.
I saw the change in the file mentioned above. It changed from one operator to the other.
HK is not so far from China, so i think there could be native support for your operators.
Anyway, could you please provide other then China Mobile store_info.dat file from your FAT partition, and a ROMdump to compare. I think you have a more fresh watch firmware. Thank you
Today I'm in China so I will not be able to upload the files to a G drive location, tomorrow I should be able to upload them.
I have bought a new device today (this time the mini GPS, 6261 based) and done a backup before the network registration and after.
I can confirm that all changes are happening to the file named "store_info.dat", and all the new data is matching to the xml format you were given. But written on a low level way inside the .dat file.
The GPRS - APN settings are independent of the GSM settings. So you will need 2G settings for your local operator, be sure you are registered in the network by performing a call to your SIM Card number then modify the store_info file with your specific operator parameters. Be sure to do this on the Hex editor so file length is constant after your perform the modification.

I am bothered with MCC and MCC settings. All i can see in DAT file is apn for internet wap and mtp, but no readable data about cellular operator
Update: i have sniffed through the firmware again, and i got that China, Hong-Kong and Taiwan are natively supported by the watch... Probably you will get some problems with diferrent cellular operators, but all 3 MCC codes 460 466 and 454 are in firmware
If you keep looking in the firmware, just bellow the MCC codes you will actually find the APN settings. Keep searching to the bottom of the file and you will find the W. A. P... U. N.I.C.O.M... C.H.I.N.A...M.O.B.I.L.E part of the string, that means that beside replacing your MMC on the top of the file above by replacing the 460, 466, 454 codes, you also have to look toward the end of the file and replace the 460000, 454000, 46600 codes with your combination of MCC and MN settings.
Since you cannot add length to the file, remember to find an operator WAP setting that will fit in the current.

all of them? - i was trying all of this, except editing DAT file
Please, share your DAT file
Also please, tell me MCC and MNC of your HK cellular network, on which you have managed to make everything work (perferably for the first time with your watch)
By the way, sniffing around MTK6261 source code led me to interesting things
setting are really preinstalled
custom_config_account.c file from "Source_code_of_6261\code_6261A_L1\custom\common" gives a clue.
I think for now - i have to chose one cellular operator, and fix all it's settings to fit my needs
Yes! I did it!!!!!! Woohoo!!!!

Time to sum up progress.
Activation option #1
Have your Chinese Seller activate the device using a Chinese Sim card before shipping, and this should ensure full communication in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan. (460.466.454) and possibly in the following places:
208 - France, 404 - India, 405 - India, 454 - Hong Kong, 455 - Macao, 466 - Taiwan, 502 - Malaysia, 505 - Australia, 510 - Indonesia, 515 - Philipines, 520 - Thailand, 525 - Singapore.
Given that MCC codes for several operators in those countries are included in the list inside the FW.
If you are choosing this way, you need to remember the device is only 2G - GMS 900/1800 compatible, so before you waste time, ensure you carrier is compatible. Australia has just dumpled 2G support so don't even try.
You can execute the following AT code before purchasing the SIM card, and it will tell you the carriers that the device could possibly connect: AT+COPS=?
It will reply the MCC Codes and operator name, with that information you can look for a valid unlocked and activated sim card.
Since device was activated in china it will easily go trough the regular process of scanning the QR code and adding the device to your APP.
Activation Option #2.
Modifiy the MCC parameters inside the FW and include your specific operator details.
FlammingPumpking, you can help us comment on how you succeed with activation.
