930U Firmware for all phones!!! New Update - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

930U FIRMWARE
Those of you on Sprint that have been locked into the Sprint only firmware now can go back to the beloved U firmware...or flash a carrier firmware of your choice. If you are still on b4, I would stay, but if not, now is the chance to install the U firmware.
Check your current bootloader version. You may not be able to odin carrier firmware after install the U firmware.
I'll put the files in this Google Drive folder
1. Download Odin3_v3.13.1_3B_PatcheD.zip (Check Odin Folder)
2. Download SM-G930U_B.zip this is the newest U firmware (Check G930U Firmware Folder)
SM-G930U_A.zip if you are on 'A' firmware and want to go back to carrier
SM-G930Ub9.zip if you are on '9' firmware and want to go back to carrier
3. Extract both zips
4. Open Odin
5. Place the files from SM-G930Uxxxxxxxx.zip into the correct BL, AP, CP, CSC blanks.
6. Put phone into download mode (power, home, volume down)
7. Connect phone to computer. Odin should now say phone is added. If not, install the Samsung phone drivers
8. Press START. This process will take about 10 minutes
9. Phone will reboot with new U firmware and Oreo installed.
HotSpot
1. download the QuickShortcutMaker app from the playstore.
2. Search for lte
3. Expand com.test.LTEfunctionality
4. Click on the new com.test.LTEfunctionality
5. Press Try
6. Scroll to LTE APN Settings
7. Click APN2 LTE internet (may be different outside of sprint)
8. Scroll to APN Type
9. Add " ,dun " The line should show read < default,mms,dun >
10. Click 3 dots to save
Random Questions/Answers:
1. Is it multi-csc? Yes, it should support any US carrier if your phone is carrier unlocked
2. Wifi Calling/VoLTE supported? Wifi Calling=yes; VoLTE=not sure, sprint doesn't support it.
3. Are XXX bands used with my carrier unlocked? All bands with major US carriers appear to be working. You can follow this guide for unlocking additional LTE bands to confirm or unlock more international bands. Change the dial code for the USB settings to ##3424#

Old Stuff
The "U" Firmware will work on any G930 Galaxy S7 (basically, USA variants) and is the Samsung Galaxy Touchwiz OS without carrier bloat. There is Samsung Bloat, but some can be uninstalled or disabled with a program like Package Disabler Pro or just disable it under application manager.
This should not trip Knox and will allow you to flash back to your original stock firmware. Warranty should not void, but I'm not responsible for bricked devices, exploding batteries, crying babies, Earth crushing meteors. If you have a question, best to ask it first!
There is an OTA to PG9 after you install this firmware. Feel free to upgrade after you flash this!
Installation:
1. Download
Updato Firmware Website or Sammobile Firmware Website or PL2 Firmware Google Drive (post 365 for MD5)
2. Extract files. May be best to download files over a wired connection!
3. Open ODIN and place the BL; AP; CP; CSC from the rar in the corresponding slots.
4. Place phone in download mode. Power + Vol Down + Home
5. Connect Phone to computer
6. Odin should recognize your phone. If not, you need to download and install the Samsung Driver Files
7. Press Start
8. It should flash the "U" Firmware.

Pit Mapping Error Fix
1. Download the Pit File Here
1a. You will have to down the Sprint PE1 firmware from Pit File Here or Pit File Here
The bootloader changed from v3 to v4 after the PGx update. If you are going to odin the latest firmware, you shouldn't have any issue. Going back to PGx to PCx/PEH will require this.
2. In Odin click the tab that says "Pit"
3. Odin will pull up a Warning dialogue. Click ok.
4. Click the long rectangular "Pit" button to select the pit file
5. Select the file that says "HEROQLTE_USA_SPR.pit" from the files you downloaded from my link.
6. With the pit file nw included, Add the AP, CP, and CSC files again and flash. (may need to reboot and go back into download mode)
7. Now odin the older 'U' firmware
____________________________________________
You cannot root this firmware with the Sprint model. Here are some apps that will give you some root/xposed features without them.
HotSpot
1. Download Shortcut Master Lite
2. Search for LTEfunctionality
3. Click on com.test.LTEfunctionality
4. Launch
5. Scroll down to LTE APN Setting
6. Add " ,dun " to APN2 LTE and EHRPD internet under APN type. That line should read default, mms, dun when you finish.
7. Native Hotspot should work. You may have to do this hack again if you update Profile.
Ad Blockers
None of these block ads on Youtube completely. Some will let you route through their servers to filter ads on Youtube via a VPN.
1. Adhell Uses Samsung Knox to block ads and trackers. Blocks most things on webpages and apps (no youtube), but saves a ton a battery since it doesn't require VPN. Also, it is FREE and well supported!
2. Disconnect Pro Similar to Adhell, but a paid app. Search the Galaxy App Store to buy it. Uses Samsung Knox too.
3. Ad Guard. Best I've used, but is a paid app for the good features.
4. AdClear. Some have had success with this, I've had mixed results.
5. BlockThis! Works well, but caused issues on some webpages.
Youtube Ads
This doesn't block ads, but it does silent and auto skip them. Cygery
Skip Tracks With Volume Keys
1. Frinky Music Controller Allows you to skip tracks with screen off.
2. Noyze Not sure if still being developed, but works. Let's you skip tracks by long pressing with screen off.
Voicemail Issue
I use Google Voice, so this worked for me. It is/was free to integrate your number with Google Voice...highly recommend if they still do it.
Install this apk for Sprint Visual Voicemail apk It will give you an error, but will take away the annoying voicemail notification. Then you can just hide the notification in the android settings and your problem will be solved. May work if you have regular voicemail, but probably not since it needs to write to system.
Doze Related
Remember to whitelist apps you want running in the background...like Pandora, Google Music, etc. I would leave them off at first and if it cuts off when the screen is off, you need to white list it.
For me, these both work best together and I saw a difference running both as opposed to either solely.
1. ForceDoze puts your phone into doze mode without the motion detectors and 30 minute wait. Great app! Does require you to install adb (adb installer) since you have to run a command to get it to run properly. Check Disable motion sensing and turn off while charging
2. Greenify The auto hibernation works great if we had root, but we don't. It works, but can be extremely annoying at times and can drain battery because it may continuously try to force stop/close an app you greenify. Plus, it will take a few seconds to re-unlock your phone immediately after you turn off the screen. However, I use it with force doze for the aggressive doze. I saw a difference in battery life by using them both.
Other Tips
Besides the obvious of gmail/facebook/whatspp/twitter/snapchat syncing
1. Turn off wi-fi scanning
2. Back up my data for Samsung and Google under back up and reset
3. Turn off some features under advanced features in settings...for example, palm swipe to capture if you never use it
4. Location History under Location
5. Change locating method...I leave mine on GPS, wi-fi, mobile, but some people want more battery life and turn it off.
6. Turn on developer options and change animations to 0.5
7. Turn off Always on Display under settings > display. I like it, so I leave it on...but takes about 2% an hour
Old stuff
Has anyone tried the 930U firmware for our Sprint phones (930P)? They seem to have success with it (935U) over at the Sprint S7 Edge forums.
On the Edge forums, they said you can root, but it messes with LTE/call abilities. However, it removes all Sprint bloatware and apparently allows for hotspot tethering.
According to the Edge forums, it is the universal firmware, so it should work on any qualcomm chipset phone. The firmware is for the Galaxy S7 Special Edition ( Link to Sprint site about it )
Anyway, here is the thread on the AT&T forum about it if you are interested. Didn't see a thread or info about here, so I was just wondering.

If you have a good tip or trick, let me know and I'll add it to the OP for easy reference.

I flashed it on my G930P and its working very well. Samsung pay is also working. The only problem is that it didn't get the latest security update. Hope this helps.

After flashing...does data, calling, texting and all that work fine?

Yeah, that's a known issue about rooting the U firmware

What if I just flash the U firmware and don't root? Would data and all that work then?

Not without root on this firmware. Some have said Hotspot works without issue, but I had to use the hurry and turn it on at boot technique.

Mine is unlocked atm, running on koodo network. I was wondering if I try it and if I want to go back for some reason, how do you do that and will I loose my unlock?

how do you do it man (the hurry and turn it on at boot technique), I tried it many times, it's not working, any useful tips to make it work for me, by the way I'm on (G930PVPU2APE1), I really like the Hotspot

That technique won't work with that version. I only got it to work on PE1 by rooting. I read that you can use PDAnet via the USB tether option.

Mine had the APN settings grayed out under Settings but I found another way to edit them so I could do the hotspot trick.
1. Download Shortcut Master Lite
2. Look for com.test.LTEfunctionality
3. Scroll down to LTE APN Setting
4. You can now edit your APN settings

Weird. That's all I searched for in it and was able to. You must be on the G930U or G935U firmware for it to work.

[Tutorial] "How to" flash the Samsung Galaxy Tab FW to enable phone calls

Below you'll find a "step by step" tutorial on how to flash your Samsung Galaxy Tab Firmware to the European version ( unbranded firmware ) and therefore enabling the phone calls option ( and 3G data + 850/1900Mhz WCDMA ) Tested and working for the following tabs: Bell, Rogers.
What do you need?
Download the following package:
Code:
http://rapidshare.com/files/444576369/Samsung_TAB_Euro_Flash_Package.7z
What's in it?
Kies_2.0.0.11011_16_5.exe
Odin3 v1.31
P1000XWJJ4
P1000XXJK5
modem_bell_i9000
Preparation:
A. After downloaded the package and extracted with 7zip Install and then reboot: Kies_2.0.0.11011_16_5.exe (this will install properly drivers x86 or 64 depending on your OS configuration, needed for your Tab and Odin to communicate correctly ).
B. Extract Odin3_v1.31_PITupdate and put the all the files contained in P1000XWJJ4 into Odin3 v1.31 source folder.
{

}
C. Set you Samsung Tab into "Download mode" ( Hold volume down and power button until the device boot up. You'll see a yellow android sign and some warning text like :do not turn off target) and connect it to your PC with the USB cable.
D. Start Odin3 v1.31.exe and make sure that the com post is yellow highlighted and check off Re-partition.
E. Load the following files as shown in the screenshot below:
F. Hit Start and then relax, hopefully it is going to be ok and in about 2. min and 50 you'll get a green highlight and pass stamp in the same Odin screen which will also reboot the Tab. It will be In Russian, but not to worry. keep reading below.
G. Turn offf the tab and set it to download mode again. Transfer over the Odin folder the P1000XXJK5.tar file re-start Odin, Connect the phone.
H. Leave the "Re-partition" unticked and load into "PDA" the tar file. Hit "Start" and wait again about 2min and 50 sec, you'll get the same green pass and the tab will reboot.
I. This is the final step. now you are going to flash the tab with the right Modem files. Again like Put the Tab into download mode unpack the modem_bell_i9000.zip into Odin folder then start Odin up and select "phone". Load the modem.bin up and hit Start. Wait for the Green pass and you are DONE!!!
[note]In order to have Internet and mms going you need to set the right APN settings. Google your provider for specifics.[/note]
Bell canada has the following Settings:
Code:
Name: Bell Internet
APN: pda.bell.ca
Proxy: web.wireless.bell.ca
Port: 80
MMSC: http://mms.bell.ca/mms/wapenc
MMS proxy: web.wireless.bell.ca
MMS port: 80
MCC: 302
MNC: 610
APN type: Internet + mms
Authentication Type: none
Are you wondering where the APN settings are?
1. Press the Menu key
2. Tap Settings
3. Tap Wireless controls
4. Tap Mobile networks
5. Tap Access Point Names
6. Press the Menu key
7. Tap New APN.
8. Enter your settings

If you see missing apps from the market it is because XXJK5 is not an official firmware and the market is not showing protected apps.
To change this you will need to edit the build.prop file under /system and change the fingerprint.
If you are lazy you can do the following:
1) root the tab
2) install busybox from the market, open the app and install busybox from within the app.
3) install GST from the market
4) go top step 6 in the app "change your fingerprint" ad run the script
5) go to setting > applications > manage applications > ALL > find "market", force stop and clear data
6) reboot the tab, reopen the market - you should see all apps now.

Questions:
1/ Does the tab need to be rooted first?
2/ Does this method work for any U.S. and Canada Tab? Or is this for a specific carrier/brand? (I plan to buy a Sprint Galaxy Tab from a friend and it is rooted)
HI,
1. No you it doesan't need to be rooted because you are going to re-intall and all new firmware.
2. It sohould work for every device is US and Canada as far as i know. You might want to look a little deeper in the forum and see if you find other info. Succesfully tested with the following Carriers: Bell, At&t, T-Mobile, rogers.

I would like to know about this as well. Just got the Tab today and would love to have voice future with T mobile 3g.
It should work on sprint tabs... No bootlock
If anyone is brave enough to actually try this on their Sprint Tab please let us know how it turns out.
Some users was successful on sprint tabs:

So to reiterate, 3g/hspa AND voice work on this build without rotos modem switcher, and it is not breaking the imei??? I am using T-Mobile US. Thanks!

It won't brake the imei. It has nothing to do with it. I think you can brake the Imei only with a wrong unlocking network procedure.

Man you need to do some reading. I can't answer what i haven't tested. Look into 30 pages of the original post for it. I know someone mentioned about tmobile.
"and therefore enabling the phone calls option ( and 3G data + 850/1900Mhz WCDMA ) that has been purposely stripped out by certain providers, Ex: Bell, At&t, T-Mobile, rogers etc.."
I did read and your description says it does work voice and 3g so we all want to confirm this. And why are you making a tutorial on something you havent even tried
Sent from my Galaxy Tab
humm...
I have a Bell tab and flashed it with the procedure above. i posted this guide for people who are beginners with flashing stuff in order to help them and make the whole thing simpler to understand. The Providers I listed above are the ones that have been tested and worked with this firmware.
You need to dig into the forum and find out if it works on sprint tab. Or do you want me to do it for you??????
I'm pretty sure this is just a tutorial for the same thing that's been around for a while which means you will NOT get voice+3G on T-mobile without the modem switcher or getting rid of your IMEI.
Yes correct. I just made This tutorial to make the process clear seeing that all the procedures written here were all confusing.

[Q] SM-N9005 trouble getting LTE enabled (hong kong firmware)

hey guys i've seen and tried a number of potential fixes for this issue but none have worked for me so far.
i can't get LTE/4g enabled. the hardware is capable, but the firmware won't have a bar of it.
i recently bought a note 3 sm-n9005 lte from a seller based in hong kong and as such, i have TGY as my CSC code.
N9005ZHUENF1 is listed as my bootloader, baseband version, pda version and csc version
i rooted it and tripped my knox flag within an hour of receiving it (lol, whoops, oh well)
being shipped with android 4.4.2, it seems to have the new bootloader that will not let me flash any other firmware. even other 4.4.2 firmwares from carriers in my own country wouldn't work, odin wouldn't get past the system.img.ext4 error. other users found the UK BTU rom to be the solution, but it wouldn't work for me. it seems strange to me that other 4.4.2 firmwares don't have this new locked bootloader or whatever.
i've had limited success with one of the solutions on smokey's wordpress, solution number 2 (google it, i cant post outside links yet). of course the LTE option in mobile networks never showed up, but i was out somewhere and when i checked my phone the LTE/4G icon was displayed up on my taskbar instead of the usual H+/3g one, and i did a quick speedtest and it was definitely running LTE, but then soon after that it stopped working again and i haven't seen it since. so at least i know the device definitely is compatible with my network's lte, its just a matter of enabling it properly on my device.
my learning curve on these things has been pretty steep the last couple of days.
i have a couple of questions.
1. can i change my csc on a 4.4.2 note 3 sm-n9005/has anyone done it yet?
2. if i can change the csc.. what implications will that have? i mean will that mandate certain firmware for a particular region, etc?
3. can i do some kind of wipe to remove this kitkat bootloader, so i can install new firmware from scratch??
thanks very much in advance, i'd love to gain some insight from you guys on this.
How many CSC codes available in your current firmware? If you have only 1 CSC in the firmware, you cannot change it without flashing another firmware.
You can check how many CSC in the firmware by install Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app, go to menu 'CSC Changer'.
Please see the screenshot.

Hey thanks for the reply. There is only one csc within my current firmware. I wouldn't mind flashing new firmware, except as of yet I haven't found any that I can, because of this locked boatloader so far it will only accept the current firmware, the others I tried all failed and softbricked my phone within about 5 seconds of starting odin. If anyone knows of any others that might work for this phone, im all ears.
If you purchased from Hong Kong, check if it's a 16gb model. If it is, no other firmware will work add they are for the 32gb models, which would explain the failure. The bootloader isn't locked, but the partitions would be a different layout.
Sent from my leanKernel 3.2 powered stock 4.4.2 (NF1) SM-N900T
Damn. Yeah it is 16gb. I didn't realise the size would affect things like that. Should have bought the 32gb. I guess all I can do is wait for an official update now. Will research more thoroughly before I buy next time
Problem solved
i found a fix guys. anyone else with an SM-N9005 whos having trouble getting LTE to switch on can follow my lead here.
NOTE: YOU WILL NEED ROOT ACCESS FOR THIS, SO GET THAT DONE FIRST. where possible, try use a method that won't trip your knox flag.
this first potential fix below did not work for me, but i understand it may work for others depending on which firmware you have. credit goes to smokey's wordpress for this. (i cant yet post outside links or i would link the page here, just google it)
1. Change with a root explorer of your choice (e.g. Root Explorer, Solid Explorer or EF File Explorer) the value “false” in file persist.radio.lteon into “true” by way of build-in text editor of the root explorer. The file is located in root/data/property. Be sure permissions of persist.radio.lteon are set to rw, after altering the file save the file and make it read-only. Reboot your phone, now you will see and be able to pick the option “LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto connect)” in Network Mode menu. Important: before altering ANY file on your phone be sure you have a copy of the original, unaltered file!!! Advantage of this solution: even after a phone reboot the option “LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto connect)” will remain visible/activated.
if the above works for you then by all means, do it, and forget the rest of this post. but for me it didn't change anything, ALTHOUGH i did do the rest of this fix with the above already done. im now outside lte coverage so i cant be bothered going for a drive just to do some more trial and error lol. so it cant hurt to have this done first.
do this in an area that you KNOW has good LTE coverage, so you can at least get confirmation that things are working (or not working) throughout the process. if not, you will have no idea whether it worked or not, and if you missed something, it will be a pain in the ass to go back and forth trying to get it right.
its important that you do things in the order i mention below. i have done some trial and error and if the order is messed up, you will remain stuck on 3g.
1. download an app called "Advanced Signal Status" from the play store, and open it up. select "additional info", then select "device information".
2. open the first drop down menu, it has options like GSM ONLY, CDMA ONLY, LTE ONLY, GSM/CDMA, LTE/GSM, LTE/CDMA, LTE/GSM/CDMA. these all determine which radio combinations can be active at any given time. for most networks, choose LTE/GSM/CDMA. afterwards, it may revert back to LTE/GSM or whatever. thats fine, as long as you still get reception where you should. this should force your phone into LTE mode, but we're not finished yet. keep reading.
3. you may need to switch your data connection off then on again for lte to start working. if it still goes into 3g, go back into advanced signal status and select "LTE ONLY" to force any other connections off.
4. once LTE is active, then go back and select LTE/GSM/CDMA or whatever your network uses, as long as theres LTE/something else. the first page of advanced signal status should show signal strength values under LTE (4g). if everything is still n/a and you're not getting LTE reception, this solution isn't going to work for you. if the LTE is now working, awesome, but we still aren't finished, because it will reset the next time you reboot your phone and you'll be back to step one. not a huge deal, but just annoying. if you can live with that, then you can stop here if you want. personally, i like my fix to be permanent.
5. you need a root explorer app with a built in txt editor function. while doing my trial and error for this i tried a few different ones but the only one that really worked properly for me was called "Root Explorer". but use whatever works for you. root explorer is a paid app ($4.85 when i did it), the free version does not access root files. easily worth the money.
6. you now need to browse to /root/system and you are looking for a file called "build.prop". BEFORE GOING ANY FURTHER, BACK THAT FILE UP! if you are using Root Explorer, like me, then it will create a backup automatically when you save changes, but do it anyway just to be safe.
7. open "build.prop" using the explorer's built-in text editor. it may ask you whether you want to alter the file's permissions in order to edit it, so yes you want to do that.
8. scroll about 2/3 of the way down and you will find a few lines that look like this:
#
# System props for telephony
# System prop to turn on CdmaLTEPhone always
telephony.lteOnCdmaDevice=0
9. while being very careful not to change anything else, change the last character on the last line so that it looks like this:
telephony.lte.OnCdmaDevice=1
10. save changes and exit.
11. make sure LTE is still active, and reboot your phone.
12. open up the settings gui and go to Connections/More Networks/Mobile Networks/
13. you should now have an ADDITIONAL network mode selector (the original one won't have changed, and still won't have an lte option) and it should be set to something like GSM/WCDMA/LTE. if not, then change it so it is. and DONT TOUCH IT AGAIN.
14. if you want, you can now uninstall the "advanced signal status" app because you won't need it unless you do this all again some day. if you mess around with anything we've just done and you lose your lte service, you'll need to start again and do things in this order.
i hope this helps some of you. i got my note 3 a week ago and have been tearing my hair out over not having lte because that was the main reason i bought a new phone. i'm by no means an expert (but i am an IT student, so thats something), so theres probably a tidier way to do this, but hey, it works so i'll take it

(5.0.2+5.1) (UPDATED 08/27/2016) How to: Use Verizon Moto E (2015) on ANY GSM network

Please follow the updated directions provided by Bendrexl below before attempting any other methods.

Here's a roundup of essential steps from this thread that worked for me...
:good: HUGE THANKS to: Whoareyou, docna, caspar347, Dishe
Prepare for battle:
Ensure your Verizon Moto E 2015 is configured for USB debugging.
Ensure your Verizon Moto E 2015 has airplane mode enabled.
Ensure your PC/Mac has the Android SDK Platform Tools installed & accessible via your terminal / command line (added to $PATH var).
Download 5.0.2 factory image: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e-2015/general/stocks-firmwares-moto-e-t3113235/page2?nocache=1 (Thanks to caspar347!)
Unzip / expand this .zip archive.
Open a terminal session in the directory you just unzipped (containing NON-HLOS.bin & fsg.mbn)
Execute!
In your terminal with phone plugged in:
$ adb reboot bootloader (your phone should now reboot into bootloader, wait for this)
$ fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
$ fastboot erase modemst1
$ fastboot erase modemst2
$ fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
$ fastboot reboot (WAIT for phone to fully boot before continuing)
$ adb shell (your command prompt will change to something like [email protected]_cdma:/ $. If you get kicked out of the session while entering the next commands, just type adb shell again and pick up where you left off)
[email protected]_cdma:/ $ pm clear com.android.providers.telephony
[email protected]_cdma:/ $ settings put global preferred_network_mode 9
[email protected]_cdma:/ $ settings put global preferred_network_mode1 9
[email protected]_cdma:/ $ settings put global preferred_network_mode2 9
[email protected]_cdma:/ $ pm hide com.motorola.setupwizard.phoneservice (optional)
[email protected]_cdma:/ $ exit (or just unplug & reboot phone)
$ adb reboot (or just unplug & reboot phone)
On the phone:
Turn off Airplane mode
Open Settings app > More > Cellular Networks
Ensure Preferred network type selected is "4G (recommended)"
Under Access Point Names, add the appropriate APNs for your specific carrier. (for Fi data, I only needed "h2g2").
Disable all Verizon apps through settings or Titanium Backup. (Optional)

Background Info: I work at Walmart in the Connection Center, and today I had a customer wanting to switch to Family Mobile from AT&T, so I showed them our Family Mobile devices and T-Mobile Devices, they didnt seem interested in them and said they wanted somthing that had Android 5.0 Lollipop, I thought about it for a minute and remembered that the Moto E (2015) shipped with Lollipop installed, I also knew that Verizon phones come unlocked, so I showed them the device and they decided to go with it, they bought the Family Mobile Micro SIM starter kit, and the Moto E, but once I powered it on, I couldn't get it to connect to Family Mobile, so I tried to access the advanced radio menu (*#*#4636#*#*) to no avail, but I eventually got it working, with full LTE support, heres how:
POSSIBLE SIM SWAP WORKAROUND (Reported by wogeboy):
Disable vzwAPNpermissions.apk and vzwAPNservice.apk using this program: http://bit.ly/1HHyVao
I have not tested this as I dont have a VZW Moto E to test it on.
5.1 Updated Instrcutions:
With the SIM you want to use the the phone :
1. Put the phone into Airplane mode (I'm not sure this is needed, but it doesn't hurt)
2. Go to Settings -> About Phone and tap on "Build Number" until it says you are in Developer Mode (~10 times)
3. Go back one menu, and right above About Phone there should now be an option for Developer Options, go into that.
4. Turn on USB Debugging
5. Connect the phone to your computer and type "adb shell" in your CMD window
6. Run the following commands in adb shell :
pm clear com.android.providers.telephony
settings put global preferred_network_mode 9
settings put global preferred_network_mode1 9
settings put global preferred_network_mode2 9
7. Turn off Airplane mode
8. Power off and Restart the phone
9. Open up the settings app, go to the mobile networks panel, select "Prefered Network Mode" and change it to "4G"
10. Input the appropriate APNs for your specific carrier
11. (Optional). Disable all Verizon apps through settings or Titanium Backup.
CREDIT: docna
.
5.0.2 Instructions:
1. Power on the device with the GSM SIM card in the SIM card slot
2. Connect to WiFi and complete Google Sign-In
3. Go to the Play Store and search "Network" download the first app (A white circle with a black phone in it) (This will allow us access to the advance radio options)
4. Open the "Network" shortcut
5. Change the radio mode from "CDMA/LTE PRL" to "GSM/LTE Auto"
6. Open up the settings app, go to the mobile networks panel, select "Prefered Network Mode" and change it to "4G"
7. Input the appropriate APNs for your specific carrier
8 (Optional). Disable all Verizon apps through settings or Titanium Backup.
The only thing I couldnt solve was how to remove the "SIM Card is not from Verizon Wireless" error in the status bar permanently, but thats just an annoyance, and causes no usability decrease.
This Works!
Thanks a lot, had been trying to get the GSM working. The "Network" app in the Play Store give access to the hidden radio selection menu. Verizon was able to disable all other way to enter the radio selection menu but this one did it. I think there is a apk file somewhere which disables the annoying "NOT verizon SIM" message. I will post here if I find that works.
That's a lot easier than poking around in NVram! Thanks, OP. And yeah, there's a Setup app or something you need to freeze for then sim error. I'll have to get mine out and find it.
Here are screen snaps. The VZ phone is actually picking up LTE for Ting (T-Mobile).

Thanks a ton for this! Do you know what the APN setting should be for T-Mobile? That's my current challenge. Every site has a different opinion. Including T-Mobile.
APN: fast.t-mobile.com
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
that should be all you have to set
Method Works on SPRINT AND BOOST too
Thanks
This method works on Boost and Sprint too.
Tested in INDIA working fine with indian GSM carriers.

The device may not support Ukrainian bands, check with your carrier to see what band they use for HSPA/LTE
I'll have to get mine out and find it.
This only kinda works with T-Mobile. No LTE or 3G, just edge - and that keeps disconnecting and reconnecting about once every minute or so. I'll have to look into the return/exchange policy if I can't get data working.

Yep. See my snapshot above for Ting GSM (T-Mobile) in Florida. 4G LTE indicated.
I figured it out. With WiFi on my cell signal strength fluctuates wildly, but as soon as I turn off the WiFi the signal settles down, and I get a solid LTE connection averaging about 32Mbps. Strange, but I've seen crazier things.
Side note, the XT1528 is not eligible for the Motorola unlock program, and cannot be rooted by any method currently available. Several "one click root" tools claim to support it, but don't actually work.

I personally haven't had any luck with the Sprint variants (Virgin Mobile, Boost) but I also didn't get to try using an activated Sim card, you could try, but I'm not sure

That root thread won't root the XT1528?
Root must be flashed with a custom recovery, which in turn requires that the boot loader be unlocked. Since the boot loader on the XT1528 can't be unlocked, we can't use that root technique.

[GUIDE] unlock APN settings on stock firmware

if you have a problematic firmware that won't allow you to edit your APN settings in the dialer hidden menu, this may be what you need.
first, the warnings:
1. THIS IS ONLY FOR SPRINT SAMSUNG PHONES RUNNING TOUCHWIZ ROMS!!! never attempt on any other carrier or manufacturer's device or alternate roms! it should most likely work on other Samsung Sprint devices with stock/touchwiz roms.
2. DEPENDING ON DEVICE, YOU ARE MOST LIKELY TO BE FORCED TO FACTORY RESET YOUR DEVICE IN THE PROCESS, which likely includes LOSS OF ALL DATA ON INTERNAL SD!! take all necessary precautions.
3. ROOT REQUIRED
4. you will STILL NEED your MSL number!!!
5. have a FULL backup in TWRP ready in case anything goes wrong. INCLUDE your EFS in the backup!!! again, INCLUDE YOUR EFS. make sure it's stored on EXTERNAL sd card. again, EXTERNAL SD CARD!!! or copy it to your PC if you don't have an external card.
here's the short but sweet guide.
1. download "Samsung Phone Info" from Google Play
2. swipe over to the CSC section.
here you should see:
Firmware's CSC Code
Active CSC Code
Available CSC Code
3. if Firmware's AND Active both say XAS, you should already be able to edit your APNs using your MSL number.
if Firmware and Active codes do not match, you have a dirty rom and I am unable to help you correct it, you'd best try a different stock based rom or 3rd party that allows it by default.
if Available CSC Codes does NOT include "XAS" then whoever modified the customized stock touchwiz rom you're using removed it and you'd best try a different stock based rom or 3rd party that allows it by default.
4. using any CSC editor, change "SPR" in ALL places it appears as only the 3 letters "SPR" to XAS
5. confirm changes and reboot. you will now most likely lose ALL personal data on your phone and should now be able to edit your APN using your MSL inside the dialer's hidden menu.

Have you found a way to retrieve your MSL without calling sprint? I've tried all the tool apps in the play store and using a logcat within the ##3282# menu with no luck. Getprop ril.MSL yields nothing, not even a not found error.
I've tried calling sprint for my MSL but refuse to release it.. I'm not exactly on their "nice" list - they've even called to tell me I'm "using too much of my [UNLIMITED] data" many times so I don't expect much from them anymore..
Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated
try the Sprint chat -- through the website, NOT Facebook, and have a good reason ready as to why you need the MSL, other than for bypassing their security lol
Holy **** after searching high and low I have FINALLy found a way to get back editing my APNS for hotspot on my rooted Sprint Note 5! AND I keep Android Pay! Thanks so much!!
This works perfectly! Only thing is turn on hotspot option disappeared from settings. I can turn it on and off from the top bar if I swipe down. OR I can download a hotspot shortcut app and access it from that app.
Also I noticed my icons for LTE now say 4G and the bars are different too - more old school.
I noticed I changed EVERY SPR to XAS - do ALL of them NEED to be changed to enable APN editing? Can I switch back the ones that give me back hotspot option in settings and stock LTE & bars icons?

this **might** be fixed by renaming (or deleting, if you're brave) the features.xml file, if I remember correctly, stored in system/csc/ or system/etc/ not sure honestly
features.xml.backup should do just fine.
if the rom doesn't boot afterwards or if the dragons catch all your apps on fire, go back to recovery and use TWRP's file manager to change it back
also, any xposed app (like wanam's) or other feature.xml adjusting apps (like GalaxyTools or Samsung Phone Info) can cause the problem to happen again.
the alternative / temporary / dirty-fix would be to create a shortcut to hotspot on your home screen:
1. download Activity Launcher from Google Play
2. launch and change recent activities to all activities
3. wait approximately 72 years for it to load
4. scroll to Settings and tap it
5. scroll to Hotspot and long-press it
6. tap create shortcut
7. never uninstall Activity Launcher -- instead just make it a hidden app (it's very small anyways)
I can just longpress hotspot toggle in slide down drawer from top no probz. Which CSC settings modifies the ability to edit APN? I want to put the rest back to SPR.
Sent from my SM-N920P using Tapatalk
I used the msl code and everything appears the way you say it should... but the phone STILL says invalid sim!
What internal file must be deleted, the thing is unlocked on sprints end it just wont let go !

(HELP) Rooting Samsung S7 Edge without Wipe

Hello XDA community,
Im a noobie when it comes to rooting, thats why i need help...
I deleted some files that i want to recover on my Samsung S7 Edge 2-3 years ago, this device has Android 7.0. (Never updated)
There is a lot of apps such as Disk Digger that offer you to recover every single file but the device must be rooted to access 100% on the internal memory.
Right now my Samsung S7 Edge is not rooted but i need to root to recover this files, so my question is, there is anyway of rooting without factory reset, or there is anyway of doing a fully backup of the internal memory of my device without touching the partitions so then i can try recovering my files later with this apps?
I hope someone can help me...
Regards
It's pretty disappointing that nobody ever responded to this considering how big is a community it is and how popular the S7 Edge was. I know this is pretty old and hopefully you were able to resolve this before this message but I'm going to respond to this just so you don't feel like your question wasn't acknowledged at all. I have an S7 Edge through Verizon which uses the Snapdragon processor. And I will find a link to post for you that although the method says it's discontinued I rooted my phone through this method and it works fine. The only reason that you would have to wipe your phone is if you're changing firmware as far as I know. I've rooted my phones and did not have to wipe them. I kept all the data and everything.
Before I lift this you are also asking about an application that you could use to back up your phone and that would be Samsung smart switch. It has a companion app for the desktop and it sinks to the phone and it'll make a backup of your data.
Now on to the root method all props and praise goes to the people that worked to give this to the people I'm not good at doing all this **** and I'm not meaning to step on any toes I'm just trying to help you since nobody did for two ****ing years.
To root

Odin.Prince.Comsy.zip

SOLUTIONS

? Open Odin as Administrator?
? Try the Prince Comsy version?
? Enable Developer Settings?
-Open Settings > About Phone > Tap Build Number 7 Times
? Enable OEM Unlock?
-Go Back to Settings > Tap Developer Options > Tap OEM Unlock
? Enable USB Debugging?
-Tap Developer Options > Tap USB Debugging
NOTHING WORKS
Did you try every single thing but nothing works?
Well, did you right click "Odin" each time you go to open it and then click "open as administrator"?
Sometimes you have to try several different versions of Odin.
But I have found that Odin3 v3.12.7 was the one that would work when the others had not.
I always would forget to also open Odin as Administrator.
It's a pain in the neck to have to remember to open as admin every time.
But you usually have to do it.
Did you check that ADB had started? Maybe that might be the reason it won't work?
But I doubt it! But you just never know and I am just trying to help you get it flashed.
It's a very quick flash and you can see that the PDA load was very quick as well.
But as far as the errors, you just have to keep trying...
Which I mean, you sometimes have to open, close, reopen Odin when it doesn't work.
Sometimes that helps, sometimes it doesn't.
It's all about the right Odin version at the time
making sure the cord is good
Opening Odin as Admin
And keep trying again after restarting your phone by holding the download mode button sequence again.

I know this all seems like a lot and it seems very confusing but it's pretty easy if you just follow the directions this will not wipe your data. Please do research, read through the forms and just tried to get as much knowledge as you can before you go about doing this it's an easy process but it's better to go in with more knowledge, I hope this helps. If you have to reinstall the firmware make sure that you install CSC home so you don't lose your data
