Amazon is showing that the Axon 7 has been discontinued. What new model is replacing it?
ZTE is still selling it on their website. It hasn't been discontinued yet.
The note 8 for me.
Newer phones with similar specs would be Xiaomi Mi6, HTC U11, Sony XZ Premium, Huawei P10 Plus.
But the Axon 7 doesn't lag much behind those, not enough reason to upgrade to either of these.
Reason I didn't include any samsung is the lack of stereo speakers which is a must in 2017 for me.

It sounds like a heavily modified Axon 7.
ZTE Axon 9. To be announced in October. Yes, they are skipping over 8 and going straight to 9..
All my information is from an XDA member who participated in a focus group in Germany, and he relayed what ZTE managers told him.

It's not October yet, is it? The person who told me the info participated in a focus group run by ZTE for the successor to the ZTE Axon 7 and he communicated directly with ZTE managers. The ZTE Axon 9 will likely be ANNOUNCED in October. Announced is not "released", don't confuse the two. Release could even be November. But "announced" would still be good.
The Multy is no replacement for the ZTE Axon 7. It's just another ZTE device with horrible specs. 2016 Snapdragon 820 with 6.8" 1080p? To be released towards the end of 2017 . Oh, come on. Please, never mention that name in this forum again. ZTE makes lots of devices, just like Samsung. Not every Samsung device is the next flagship phone. Samsung even makes mediocre "Galaxy" phones to trade on that name. So, looks like ZTE is selling out the Axon name... But it's not the ZTE Axon 7 successor.

Unless you are agreeing with me that it's silly to even mention that device in this forum.

I agree on the extra RAM, however there is a big trade off to build in a good stereo speaker set up.
ZTE have confirmed to me that their next smartphone will retain stereo speakers will going with the bezelless design, so that's the brand you should be looking towards if you want stereo speakers. That's also why their next flagship is delayed, they want to do it right. Stereo front facing speakers is their USP but of course it is not as easy to realize with an 18:9 display without the smartphone being big.

It is likely to be called Axon 9, though, better number of a Chinese company from what they told us.
Axon 9 should have glass design, wireless charging, larger battery around 3800mAh - 4000mAh (hence the need for a lighter material) and maintain the stereo speakers, the design is not yet known but front firing side speakers is indeed an option they are considering.

If this is true I'll be pretty dissapointed.
I really hope they make a device almost the same as the axon 7 design wise but with updated SoC, Camera, Ram, Battery and waterproofing.
Please a 6GB 128GB option on day 1.
Axon 7 Replacement
I'm curious about whether or not the Axon 7 replacement (Axon 9, whatever) will finally work on networks like Verizon. As I understand it, there are very few networks where the Axon 7 works well. Having a new car with Android Auto,
I'm also wanting a smartphone that not only has great audio, but also works with Android Auto and on a reliable network.
I'm also wanting to know if it will retain a headphone jack, and not follow the way of Apple in eliminating it.
I don't like wireless anything near my brain.
Call me paranoid...
This has been an awesome phone and will continue to be great with all the updates. Unfortunately I have purchased a Note 8 that will arrive on Friday. So keep up the great work devs and making this a great phone.
CDMA Radio
LTE Band 4/Band 13 Support
4 GB RAM (Min.)

1440p (Min.)
5.5" Display Size (Min.)
OLED Display Technology
3.5mm Audio Jack
Front Facing Stereo Speakers
Fingerprint Scanner
NFC
3000 mAh Battery (Min.)
Currently, the only phone on the market that satisfies these specs is the Axon 7. I worry that this set of specs will be very difficult to come by in the future.

Hi! I have absolutely NO technical knowledge, and am really, really lost. I'm currently deciding between the Axon 7 and the 6P for my next phone. I love the Axon, but my one requirement for my next phone is stock Nougat with Google Assistant. I read that it is possible on the Nexus 6P to unlock GA, but is it possible on the Axon to get stock N in the first place? From there, could I unlock GA? If nothing is available on the Axon, I'm buying in two weeks, so I can't wait long for it to come out. I couldn't seem to find anywhere that can help me, so I turned to XDA. Thank you in advance!
TLDR: Can the Axon 7 get stock Nougat with Google Assistant as of this moment? I'm okay with rooting or whatever is necessary.

READ what I wrote. I said it will not get Google Assistant because Google decided that that's Pixel phone exclusive for now. I also said it will not get Android N any time soon.
We probably see it toward the end of November if we are lucky. ZTE has to fix the HUGE PILE of bugs on the current roms before they even try to go with Android N. That's how software life cycle works.

We are currently integrating the Daydream package into Axon 7 now. It requires an Android N upgrade and we need final certification from Google. So please note that Axon 7 is not Daydream-ready the day that Daydream launches from Google. We have said all along that we are working with Google on Daydream, which is true, and that we anticipate that it will receive the certification. We only recently received the final Daydream package so it will take some time to finish the integration on Axon 7 and then get certification. We will make a future announcement when it is Daydream ready.

Learn to read? You're the one who can't read. Plus you are giving out incorrect information. You also might want to chill with the name-calling.
You misquoted the op. He did NOT NOT NOT ask if Axon 7 was getting Nougat before the 6p.
He did imply in the "near future", but actually said he wanted to buy either phone in two weeks. He didn't say it needed Nougat before then, but wanted assurance it would get Nougat as that would shape his decision.
But more importantly... The answer is YES, the ZTE Axon 7 WILL get Nougat 7.1 in the near future. Because ZTE marketed the Daydream VR capability and that requires 7.1 Nougat.
However, there are no promises of "stock" Nougat 7.1 nor any promises of Google Assistant. That will require the magic of XDA devs. But it will have Nougat 7.1 in the near future from ZTE.
Here's the op for you to read again, since you didn't read it well the first time?

Better be 7.1 since it's gone late significantly time ZTE to deliver to us.
ZTE has plenty of time to prepare 7.1 and bring it to us(it's already ready by Google)
They would not having any excuse not giving us 7.1 from the beginning.
As I know 7.1 will support VR capability and not 7.0 and other bug fix and optimized tweaks of the OS.

Where did i state such a thing?
Why not all just calm down now the miscommunication has been resolved and axon 7 users will get 7.1 as soon as it's developed.
After that we will surely start seeing more mods and development as well as i personally would not start developing for an operating system that's soon going to become obsolete and risk doing almost everything again... I'd just wait for the latest promised android version to be released and then start making modifications

I really want to stop this, but I must point out again you apparently can't read. I did NOT say that. You can check my post -- which has not been edited. The word you have in quotes is only in your mind, not my post. I did say a lot of Pixel fanbois were "hurt" (feelings hurt, wounded?) the Axon 7 is equal to or better than the XL in many/most hardware specs, for half the price. I assumed you had listened to them, perhaps were one of them. One guy over there attacked me incessantly when I compared hardware specs and they started the false rumor (over there) the ZTE Axon 7 wouldn't get Nougat -- which is quite ignorant and silly if you know anything about the Axon 7.
You started with the name calling and said the ZTE was not getting Nougat in the near future. ZTE says otherwise, if you take them at their promise from two weeks ago. They are diligently working on their version of Nougat 7.1 at least -- since they heavily marketed this phone as being Daydream VR capable, which requires Nougat.

The Honor 8 has been out for about 10 months now and can now be purchased for $299 from the Honor website. So let's see how this phone holds up and if it's still worth the money.
Updates
The Honor 8 was early to the Nougat scene and has been updated regularly. The stock firmware is currently on Android 7.0 with EMUI 5.0. This has the Honor 8 easily keeping up with its competitors when it comes to updates.
Development
There are several regularly updated ROMs for the Honor 8 that will bring you up to Android 7.1.2. This phone can be rooted with SuperSU while running nougat, and the bootloader can be unlocked easily. So as far as development goes, the community has not let us down.
Specs
Seeing as how the Honor 8 is now a $300 phone, the specs hold up just fine and sometimes easily surpass other phones in this price range. The 4GB of RAM is what most flagship phones are launching with today. The 1080p screen is still plenty usable with no complaints from me. The camera has aged well, still being a lot of fun to use with all of the camera modes on this device. The Hisilicon Kirin 950 processor keeps this phone running plenty fast.
Durability
Who else cracked the back of their phone? Other than that, it's still in once piece. Parts are easy to find on ebay and they're very cheap. This is something that I usually look at when buying a new phone.
Accessories
There were never really a great selection of cases to choose from for the Honor 8. Seems there's still a very slim selection or low quality cases for this device.
Overall this phone holds up nicely. I'd say if it were $400 it would be too expensive. $299 seems like a really fair price for this phone to be going at right now. You can usually find it even lower than that on some other websites.
Just give us EMUI 5 KERNEL source code and we'll be happy customers
I'm afraid you'll find many that would argue that development has NOT been great with this device. Still a great phone though...
How much did Honor pay you for this post?
Look at all the threads saying "Huge battery drain after upgrading to EMUI 5." And you'll know where Huawei screw up.

Imho the Honor 8 is not a bad phone hardware wise, It's just seems like they spend more on PR than actual development and updates. His statement about updates is laughable at best.

Okay, I broke the back glass. Paid $40 to get it repaired.
About the software updates, the US version is doing poorly. Security patches are not delivered monthly. We stayed at a very early patch for a very long time. About the O update, this device should get it. They should at least provide two major Android updates. One was Nougat and the next has to be O.

Only this community of phone nerds cares about monthly security patches. There isn't a company outside of Google that can realistically maintain that level of software support for their entire device portfolio. 2 major OS updates is the most we should realistically expect from Honor or any company. Anything else on top of that is just icing on the cake.
My girlfriend's Huwei P8 receives security patches every two months at least, one just received some days ago with July security patches. So i don't understand why we are not getting them...however, i agree with PuffDaddy_d. I would prefer to have Android O instead monthly security updates

OP5 is currently the sweet spot.
Right people.
Just to start the discussion...do you think we'll get Android 8 Oreo on the AXON 7 Mini? I'd hope we will...it's a darn longshot...but who knows
Whats your thoughts people
I don't think so but I really hope Android O gets to the Axon 7 Mini.

Don't expect a quick update, but I do believe the Axon 7 mini and Axon 7 will get an upgrade to Android 8 Oreo, as they are ZTE's flagship phones for now.

It took us long enough to try and get Nougat! It would be nice, but don't hold your breath.
Dear ZTE customer,
Sorry, there would be no plan for new AXON phone lately. But, don't worry, I will send your wish to our engineer.
Thanks!
I haven't got Nougat yet, for god's sake! I tried manual update but it failed. I have to wait for OTA update, IF it ever arrives here in Finland :/
I personally don't think the mini will see 8.0 Oreo. The regular Axon 7 might. The mini just never sold well and I've yet to figure out why. I love nine. It's built extremely well and high premium. The speakers are amazing. To be honest I think it's priced so low that most people think it's garbage and therefore not worth it. That's the only reason this phone isn't flying off the shelf. There is no other reasonable explanation.

I think the same too. I was amazed when I unboxed my mini. I love this phone. And as for an official release we may not see one. However I'd be happy to settle with a custom rom of oreo

The update for Oreo is already being worked on. Just like the Nougat update, there will be a closed beta. I don't have time frames available to me yet, but rest assured, it's coming. And no, I won't reveal my source(s), I'm bound by an NDA.

The odds of that happening are extremely slim, as Android nougat came out more than a year after its initial release. Also most flagship phones are only supported for 2 years, let alone a mid-range phone.
Found this article.
I don't really know if it is true, but i still have hope.
Hello everyone I would like to ask if the M3 is worth buying anymore? I had the M3 in the past but it broke, so the store i bought it from gave me the money back. I loved this device and could not find any device currently available that fits my usage of a tablet more than the M3. But sadly, it was released one year ago and I dont know how long Huawei supports the device. Is there any Information of an upcoming release of the M4? Since its already is a year old, does Huawei will release the M4 soon?
Thank you!
It's worth it. You want a solid tablet the m3 is. I have the 64gb wifi model. It's pretty much the best android tablet right now. Or wait...

I know that it is really good, as I said I already had one in the past and it was a great tablet, but i am not sure if I should buy it or wait for the M4.
Is there any information about the M4 out yet?
Honestly haven't heard a thing...
No news yet of an M4. Tablets are not that popular anymore and they are not being updated as often as it was a few years ago. A 64gb tablet with 4gb or ram is not going to be obsolete anytime soon.
How is the gaming performance? I had a honor 8 and it wasnt that great, I had to used the lower resolution in order to achieve playable framerates on some games, does the M3 has the same thing?
Gaming performance is very good. I almost ran out of space installing the games I bought in time. M3 got some discounts in time making it even more appealing.
Amazon just lowered the Price of the LTE Version to 270 Euros, maybe there will be a new one soon?

The question is: is a regular sale or a sign that a new model is on the way? Maybe they present it when they release the Mate 10 on the 16th October?
I got the old M2, basically the M3 is the same thing but with less bezels.
I've been thinking of buying the M3 as well but i haven't since the specs (cpu/graphics) just isn't that great.
It wasn't even great at release or in comparison to anything more "high end" released in 2016 and 2017.
So buying that tablet in the end of 2017....? I rather just wait for the updated M4 if that will ever come.
It's a pity though, Huawei is the only one releasing tablets thats good for media and that has a ~8" screen @ 16:10 which makes the tablet much more "pocketable" then others. Something that's quite a huge deal if you carry it around a lot since it basically mean that you won't have to use an extra bag but rather can just have the entire tablet in a pocket (try that with a tablet that has a 4:3 aspect ratio.....).
My almost three year old Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is showing signs of coming to the end of its live. I am looking for a new tablet, preferably with a widescreen ratio and stereo sound in landscape mode, so it's an entirely relevant thread to ask. Would you buy the Huawei Mediapad M3 again in 2017, or would you wait for something else?

My understanding is that the the CPU cores used in the Kirin 950 SoC of the M3 could easily trade blows with Snapdragon 820, which was the top Android smartphone CPU of 2016. The GPU side of M3 was significantly less capable, which is fine by me (I barely play games, and none on a tablet).

Yeah, the CPU is comparable to the SD820 however the GPU is not and that's sort of 50/50 for when using higher resolution screens.
One also has to note that the M3 was released in october 2016 so if there's a M4 it may be announced very soon.

I have the same hesitation because I need a tablet nowadays and at the same time, I don't want to invest in something almost obsolete. I took a final decision of waiting because Huawei is most likely busy with their Mate 10 so I HOPE they will announce it after the Mate 10 dust passes over

Keep in mind that the tablet market is so weak that a lot of manufacturers stopped announcing a new model every 12 months. The distance between the M2 (may 2015) and M3 (May 2016) announcements was something like one and a half years. I'll personally wait for the M4 because I just ordered parts to repair my Tab S.

It's sad to know that tablet market is not good as it was before. I'm still waiting desperately for the M4 and what annoys me is that I don't have an approximate date for its release because if it's too long to wait for it, I'll buy the M3 even though I'm not quite satisfied by some things in it + it has been there for a while (1+ year).
Does anyone have a guess or a clue about its announcement date? I'm guessing Dec 2017
mr too haven't heard a thing...
I'm having the same doubt as well.
I'd mostly use it for gaming.
I've read contrasting feedback regarding gaming performance on M3 (with Marshmallow).
However, I wasn't able to find info on how the tablet performs after the Nougat update.
Any idea? Thanks!
Hello everyone! Will mediapad M3 be update to Oreo 8.0? Is there any news about it?
Thank you!
I am Sorry. I found proper topic for this question.
I would say the tablet in terms of performance and hardware is great, especially the screen and speakers are far above average, and I also love the form factor and the 16:10 screen. On the other hand EMUI is probably the worst customization of Android on the market by far (I'm talking worse than touchwiz here, far worse) and it seems that we're done getting updates too, stuck on may security patch too. Honestly if I were to choose a tablet today I would spend a bit more and get a windows 10 tablet.
I found some really pictures of Axon 7s in a china post

I don't see any speaker grills.

The grilles are same place but look like a mesh.
I found a video of the Axon 7S on YouTube a few months ago, it's still there if you're interested.

It has slight hardware improvement over the regular Axon 7.
SD821, better camera, more storage etc. Could have been an Axon 8 It was supposedly for Chinese use, Government I think.
Shame we probably won't see an Axon 9
I do think the speaker grills on the 7S look considerably better. And it would be nice to see some samples from the camera. I bet there's not many here in the UK, probably less than a handful which makes it super-rare and exclusive!
Sadly it's rare and unsupported. No late updates or development, just out of date Chinese ROM.
Need browser set to desktop to see the full images. Interestingly in the comments translated by Google, a few people say the hifi chip isn't on it and the difference is there's a security chip. Some kind of hardware encryption for the government built purpose? One comment says it lacks UFS too. They say it's expensive too. If all those things are missing it definitely sounds security purpose built, dropping consumer features.

There will be later this year, rumoured to have a dual 20mp rear camera set up and dual 13mp at the front.

Do you have any source to proof that statement of yours? Because ZTE is currently in trouble and can't use US hardware for 7 years because of the whole sanctions stuff.

Android is open source so it can still be Android with consumers installing Google services themselves.
